[Q] Reverse Tether for Xperia? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I often find myself in environments (mainly hotel rooms) where I have a wired Internet connection but no wifi.
I was wondering if anyone knew if it is possible to have my Xperia use USB to get its internet access through a laptop (XP or Win7). I've looked elsewhere in XDA, and found many other questions but few answers.
I know that the last resort is travelling with a router but that's undesirable and I'd like to avoid that solution if possible. Having the laptop act as the access point could be a workable solution but I have no idea how to do that without buying third party software.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Is therenot any software that alliws the laptop to become a router if it is using ethernet cable?
I dont know, just a guessw

Reverse USB tethering is really the only thing I miss from Windows Mobile days...

There's Connectify for Windows 7 that turns the PC into a virtual WiFi hotspot, it works well most of the times.

I'm confused. If the Xbox is already connected to the router, then why can't you connect to Live as it's setup now?
I wanna help answer your question, but I don't fully understand the problem.
If you don't have a home internet connection you should see if you can put dd-wrt on your router. Then you can connect the router to your phone as a wireless client and plug the Ethernet into the Xbox.

It is an open source, linux-based firmware for routers.

[Q] Reverse Tethering on SGS2

I'm looking to access PC's internet and pass it to the Phone. Is this possible for our phones?
There are a number of cheap usb wifi adapters that can double as access points.
I'm guessing you have a laptop with mobile internet?

I have wifi at home but at work, I get no signal (data or voice) and wondering if I can connect via USB. I don't have wifi at work.
Yeah they'd probably have issue with you wirelessly broadcasting their internet.
Bluetooth however would work and is cheap. And won't interfere with the network at all.
I've read else where on xda that people have gotten it to work, but the only instructions were for linux, and I got a feeling your work computer is xp.
How easy? Alot depends on the operating system and bluetooth adapter.

There's always a way mate!
Detailed guide plus apps, both for phone and PC.
It's called reverse Android tethering

Issues with OS X tethering?

I just bought my S3 not too long ago and have noticed that I can't seem to tether to my MacBook Pro under OS X, but it seems to work fine under Windows. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this and if there was a fix? Loving the phone but it's really a deal breaker for me if this is a consistent issue. Thanks!

What do you mean by "tether" ? Are you trying to get network connection going through the S3 on your mac via USB tether? Or are you talking about file transfer?

Tether Phone from Computer

Hello all. I was wondering if I could share my computers internet with my phone. My computers hooked up with ethernet so it would be nice if I could share that connection with my Note. Thank you.
Depends, there's tethering and there's reverse tethering...
To connect to the internet on PC using the phone's cell towers, I use EasyTether
I mean reverse tethering, I tried an app and it didnt work and I tried setting up an ad hoc connection and that didnt work either
This is what I found to work best...
