What do you guys think, will it help us when the Iphone comes to sprint or hurt us. In my opinion, Sprint does not have choice but to change their plan options. Quick question do android phones use more Data than the Iphone or are they on par?
Android users use more but there is a higher volume of iPhones accessing the network on the carriers who have it.
Network Vision + the competitive advantage should keep us in the clear regardless, as far as unlimited data is concerned. But as big of a Sprint fan I may be, this is going to hit hard & fast.
I feel sorry for 3G users. The EVO alone bogged down the 3G speed we used to have.
Before the EVO I was getting 3Mbps down avg 3G, now it's only 1.5Mbps.
Network Vision has to be a top priority for this to go well on the EVDO side of things.
I have little to complain about as 4G is concerned, it's gotten 2x as fast since I 1st used it.
iPhone will start using more data with iOS 5 now that they catching up to 2008 Android with cloud syncing and stuff.
Cool, but, make no mistake about it--This. Is. Going. To. Suck.....at least for a while until the New Network Vision is fully deployed.

Only long enough to sucker enough Verizon and ATT potential customers over to sprint, then they will cap it like everyone else. Why do you really think they are raising the ETF to $300 + dollars? Haven't we learned not believe anything sprint says? Remember Dan saying there will be NO Extra Charge for having a 4G device, then we get hit with an $10.00 fee. Sprint follows every stupid thing verizon does... verizon cuts out one year upgrades, sprint does too, well changed it to gold members only when everyone use to could upgrade after 1-year. Verizon increase ETA fee's then sprint does, on and on and on...

We just got our hands of a copy of the latest Sprint Playbook, and while we were hoping for some more info about the LG Marquee and Kyocera Milano, what we found was a bit, well, different. It seems that in order to stay competitive with Verizon and AT&T (Sprint's words, not ours), some changes are going to be made to several of the perks everyone on Sprint takes for granted.
For starters, the Sprint Premier program is coming to an end. Current members will be hearing from Sprint sometime after Sept. 16 with all the details, but the short version is starting at the beginning of this month, enrollment in the program stopped, and you'll have to use your current (and final) Premier upgrade on or before Dec. 31, 2012. In addition, the other smaller but just as appreciated perks like accessory discounts and annual anniversary gifts end Dec. 31, 2011. Employees have been instructed how to let everyone down easy, but this will sting no matter how you slice it.
Next up, is a major change to Sprint's 30-day=satisfaction guarantee -- it's getting cut by 16 days. Like we've seen other carriers do, Sprint will now be switching to a 14-day return policy. They will still return everything but the restocking fee, you just have a couple weeks less to make up your mind.
Finally, starting Oct. 2, the "New For You" upgrade time is changing from 22 months, down to 20. Cutting the time down by two months is nice, but will hardly take the sting of losing the yearly Premier benefit away.
Nothing good can last forever folks, and as Sprint reminds us, they have to do something to stay competitive. In the end, it's a business and sometimes you have to rob from Peter to pay Paul. We have some relevant pages of the Playbook after the break.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: It's about damn time.
Am I happy about this? Not at all. But this was going to happen eventually. Sprint is bleeding money without compare. As long as they continue to offer decent coverage, great prices and fantastic customer service I'm all for it. They need to stay competitive. Not to us, they are already very competitive to us...they need to stay competitive to investors or risk a takeover most likely coming from Verizon.
***** and complain all you want, where you gunna go? T-Mobile? Unlikely. That whole law-suit from the DOJ is nothing but a dog-n-pony show.
Sprint has to offer unlimited service, the same fantastic rates, unparalleled customer service while at the same time improving it's network infrastructure all around in order to stand a chance...they know it and it's about time they started acting like it.
....with a strategic partnership with Google they could change the entire game by ditching the voice-n-text strategy and being the first to embrace the "everything is data" paradigm. It's coming. "voice service" all by itself is so, well, last century. We all know it's already digital, why convert back twice and charge us for something we can now do on our own?

Well I'd have to say that Unlimited data plans and Unlimited data plans that are still $10-$20 cheaper than tiered (aka "limited data") plans is still a better deal....
....now they are on the same level with all of other companies for ETF and other "little things."
...and as I said they are already very competitive to us, far more than the other choices (besides the doomed T-Mobile)...but it isn't us they need to convince to not sell-out to Verizon, it's the shareholders....and that benefits us too.
As long as they keep the data unlimited, I could care about the other oerks

I am pretty disappointed in this news. I left at&t to come to sprint not just because of price but also because of the perks you get with being premiere. Annual upgrades, discounts on accessories, anniversary gifts, etc.
Yes. Price was nice but going to a company that ties verizon for customer service and appreciates its customers to give them a little something back once in a while really sold me on the idea.
The crappy thing is that just after I signed up for a plan that was sprint premier qualified, they switched to a tiered plan. So I was already like wtf! Not to mention that they also started to charge all smartphones a $10 premium instead of just 4g phones (though that didn't really effect me).
I can see the argument that says sprint needs to stop these perks in order to save a bit of capital in order to invest in the network, but I don't think this is a good move for sprint.
The fact is that sprint used to offer several perks that no other carrier did, and they were cheaper than the others. These extra perks made sprint very attractive. The tradeoff is that their network speeds are noticeably slower than their competitions. Many people take that tradeoff because of those perks.
I am betting that if people lose those perks, and all they are left with is an $8 a month savings, they will go to a more reliable network. This loss of customers will lead to a much greater loss of capital than these perks will. sprint still won't be able to invest in their network when they lose 25% of their customers. I just don't see this as being a a good move when you are trying to standout against the competition.

Sure, they have unlimited data (for now anyway), but beyond that if they align themselves too closely with Verizon and ATT, they may actually need to provide a reliable fast data service.
Why do I have better data speed when roaming? Because sprints network is pathetic in comparison. And if they align too closely, everyone that has been satisfied with unlimited data and yearly upgrades might start to notice how poor their service really is.
i see people saying sprint has unlimited data this is true ... but for how long changes like this happened to VRW right before the iphone was announced . what finally happened .. data caps . only thing that was helping sprint is unlimited data ..
now that the premiere is gone the upgrade fee is jumping etf is jumping what's going to keep people around ?

Another thing...while unlimited data is great and all, only something like 2% of people use even 2GB a month. The fact is that the vast majority of people are good with limited data. the huge data hogs that are all drawn to sprint and leave other networks. This clogs up sprints already lackluster network even more while freeing up a competitors network. plus, since only a small percentage of people come to sprint for the unlimited data plan, that means they really aren't gaining market share. And to make matters even worse the customers they do get aren't really profitable because they are consuming so much data...

This puts me close to my edge here. Been with sprint for over 10yrs as i was with nextel well before so i was enjoying my premier gold status and yearly upgrades.
This change will greatly make me rethink things when my yr comes up which will be in 2yrs as ill upgrade to whatever next yr while its still valid, and the yr after that will be the deciding factor. If I can't call and negeotiate getting the 2yr upgrade then walking i will likely be doing, and thats what will keep me here, long as i can call in and get the 2yr price ill stick here, first time that doesn't happen ill likely walk.
take away the silver status but **** reward something to the people that have stuck around through thick and thin 10yrs plus and let them upgrade every year!!

Ditto, I'm still pissed but yeah, I'd drop premier if it meant keeping my data unlimited, Just like it say's in Hesse's dictionary.

I understand why Sprint is doing it, but it really pisses me off. I upgraded my plan in July to make my plan cost enough to be a Gold Premiere member and it would take affect next month. Then I would be eligible for an upgrade because I didn't use on for the Evo 3D and planned on using that upgrade to get the Nexus Prime when it comes out. I will be calling Sprint and I will be complaining to see if I can get my upgrade or at least downgrade my plan back to where it was and get my $ back for the 2 months I spent at a higher plan which will probably be 3 by the time I talk to them.
No other carrier offers the yearly upgrade, so this will put Sprint more on par with other carriers. To me it is still the best deal because of unlimited across the board for less than tiered plans with other carriers.
I understand why they would get rid of most of the program but they are WRONG to do that to the 10+ year members......If they don't keep it for us they will bleed MANY of their longtime customers!!!!!! It's just dirty to do this to 10+ year customers!!!!!

How useful is unlimited data when you get 100kbs download speeds with full 3G coverage? The only reason I'm with Sprint is because of all these little extra perks that they keep taking away. I've also been with Sprint for over 10 years and it's a real shame. I don't know about everyone else but in my area Sprint's backhaul is so bad that data speeds are absolutely ****! Particularly unusable during peak hours. Most of my friends have Verizon and although their bills are higher, they get awesome data speeds. There's also a rumor that Verizon will be getting LTE in my area soon. If that happens I would happily pay my EFT and sign up with Verizon. I've been waiting for 4G in my area since the release of EVO 4G and there's no plan of them adding it any time soon. I would sign with T-Mobile but they don't even have 3G data in my area. However, that actually might not be a bad idea because I only get 1X speeds on Sprint anyhow.
Soon, all the carriers will be offering very similar services. Sprint increased the ETF, added a few cents to the monthly bill, removed lots of perks they offered to premiere customers etc. With all these changes, how long do you think the unlimited everything plan will last?
Once Sprint upgrades it's 3g network to evdo rev b, that'll be the end of unlimited everything.
I was reading up on the highlights form the Google I/O 2012 article and it said that a million devices were being activated daily. Then I thought about a flashaholic like me who has a G Note and a Sidekick 4G and is always flashing a rom or a kernel or other mods. What i am getting at is that I want to know if that every time we flash a rom on an android phone, does that count as an activation even though it is the same phone? To me it seems so because when a new rom is flashed it takes you through the steps as if you just got a new phone. If that is the case then that number has been slightly inflated by flash junkies with one or more android devices or Windows Mobile device converts (HD2, HTC touch, etc). Can anyone shed any light on this because the Google I/O article stats show that this is an Android world.:good:
Wondered about this myself. However, if you reflash and have to log in, that wouldn't trip a new activation I wouldn't think...if you use an existing log in, like I have. I have easily flashed 60+ times among all three devices...yet I always use the same log in.

With over 7 Billion people in the world and if there are 1 million people a day activating a new phone that means about 5% of the worlds population is activating new phones each year so in those terms I would guess more that a million a day are being activated. A million a day seems small when you add up the yearly sales of Apple, Samsung and even Zenithink (Zenithink a Chinese company which plans on selling over 100 Million devices this year alone) and thats just three companies so when you factor in HTC, Nokia, Motorola, LG etc, 1 Million activations a day does not seem to be that much. I would have guessed it would be atleast triple that cause who do you know that has not got a cell phone. Also there are millions of techies that have to get the newest device every couple months and also when the new iphone comes out there are like 5 million activations in a day just in America, thats not counting overseas sales, so I think the figure of 1 million a day is way too low.

Activation involves the unique IMEI and/or MEID number... So when that same number comes back on the network, that is not counted as a new activation....

No wonder Apple is *****ing and moaning and throwing lawsuits about being the pioneers of smartphones and first in this and that, Android is everywhere and taking over if it hadnt already done so. Ask any sprint service questions here with the confidence that 1 - I know what I'm talking about more than the idiot at your local authorized retailer, and 2 - that I was a member of XDA years before I ever worked for sprint, so I have your interests in mind.
I will not tell you how to scam Sprint or get out of your contract fraudulently. I will explain plan options, advise you on what are actually good deals vs what the rep is making sound like a good deal.. Ask away!

I hit 100gb a month and still get 4096kbps or higher with wifi tether
No there is absolutely no throttling anywhere on the network. You can try ##72786# and see if that helps. Otherwise if you have WiFi you can call *2 (customer care) and ask for an air rave.
Naw, they don't throttle, it's just that new spark crap sucks in a lot of areas.

So they only offer 2 year contracts again? I ask because we got grandfathered into the 69 unlimited everything plan but they talked my father who the account is under to switch to the framily plan. We have 10 people right now and with unlimited data plus insurance with a new g3 im paying like 80 a month which is ok i guess... idk i feel like we got screwed in the deal...

No, we have several other plans on offer, including the Family Share Pack and Simply Unlimited Everything. 2 year agreements are still available, however.
Just look at apples to apples. $80 a month got n limited everything and a g3 with no real upfront cost is a pretty good deal. Better than anyone else is offering, in fact.
I know you can get discount's based on where you're employed, if you're a student, maybe other some other factors. Ive always wondered if im eligible for any discounts. Is there a list of available discounts anywhere that you know of?

I read somewhere that newer Sprint phones could not access the internet while in a call, something about just one radio, I'm still on Evo jewel and never noticed this. Is this true for the G3?
The spark phones only have one radio. It sucks. I lose data everytime I get a call.

I don't really feel sorry for those who use 100+ GB/month. Those are the users that prompted the removal of the unlimited plans to start with. You can scream "unlimited is unlimited" if you want but its Verizon's sandbox and they make the rules.

Agreed...there comes a point (about 100 GB a month) where it becomes an "unjust enrichment" for the end user....and this is why we cannot have nice things lol
I'm surprised Verizon didn't go the route of...well the unlimited data plan started in the days of 2G/3G only...so that's the only unlimited data you get...when you are on 2G/3G.
Maybe I shouldn't give them any ideas... :/

I live out in the boonies, I am on 1x and sometimes 3g. my internet is only dsl at 2.5Mbps (3g speeds) ... so whenever I hit 4g on my phone, I do everything with it. so i sometimes rack up 70gb+ a month. especially when im at work ..teamviewer, netflix, streaming cameras setup at various locations, music is always going, showbox, kodi (tends to use a lot more data than other streaming apps)... the data rack up quick.

I use it as primary internet. Been paying for it for so long. Screw paying $60+ a month for cable that is the same speed but doesn't offer the same capabilities that cellular data does. I rack up over 100gb a month but it's a business account so i doubt they will cut me off.
The fcc does nothing about the internet monopoly in my area because it's not considered a monopoly because wireless internet is considered an option. When verizon charges what they do for internet it clearly isn't an option. We all know verizon can afford to give you more GB's at a lower price.
Most of the infrastructure is already in place and they are paying purely for maintenance at this point. And when they are talking about faster speeds with xlte and lte-a they are expecting you to use more data but have no plans on reducing the cost per gb. Faster speeds means a larger resource pool to tap into. The excuse that heavy udp users are decreasing the speeds for others is basically a thing of the past at this point.
Honestly it's all bs marketing and political manipulation. Tell me why countries in the EU can offer unlimited lte data for 35 euoros a month, which people use as their primary internet source, if this isn't the case?

And why R u saying at 100 gigs a month? Why this amount? Unjust? U r an idiot in perspective. Unjust =Hilary Clinton's Fuk'n National security (knowingly) and walking free. Unjust= people like me or in my "group" pay more in taxes than the "wealthy." UNJUST=VERIZON lying about the effects people such as myself have on "their" network I pay for by using what U stated over "100 gigs" monthly. OPEN UR EYE'S FRIENDS, $$MONEY$$ $$MILLIONS IN BONUSES$$ U should have Verizon show you this "negative" effect. Lol, in words and writing sure but 100% accurate proof including data analysis by 3rd party/partys not Affiliated whatsoever with Verizon does not/will never exhist cause its a story kinda like the Easter Bunny. Maybe on average.. Some months around 500 and others 100. Feb 17th I say "GOOD<--->BYE" to VZW (they terminate unless I select a plan) after 10 f*$#ing years... not too sure what I'm going to do yet but obviously I cannot afford to stay with VZW..

Wait a second, I am currently experience a minor heart attack! They are CANCELING your UDP?!
I have not received a letter regarding this, is anyone else receiving this letter?

I average 12GB/month (which is NOT heavy use at all) and received my letter informing my UDP is being terminated as of Feb 16. I have complained to both of my local stores and the customer service call center to no avail. I was told that once the letter was sent my fate was sealed.

I read online last night T-Mobile has been gaining twice as many new customers as Verizon since Verizon's been pulling their $*it.

They will regret it, T-Mobiles service, at least here is so spotty its not even worth paying for. When my wife had it she had to use my wifi tethering just to use her phone half the time we went anywhere.
200gb a month is plenty, but the problem is the price of the new plans they want you on. Id never pay those rediculous prices.
But unlimited should be unlimited, i understand that too, but 500gb people... Come on now, that is a little excessive. I don't even come close to that downloading movies all day on my home cable network. So i can see where verizon is coming from. Fair usage.
I am sticking with my Verizon UDP for now, but i have also bought my wife a new phone on at&t's DirecTV unlimited plan that's up to 4 devices just incase verizon pulls out more bs. Figured id jump on that and get grandfathered on that also, since in my area at&t is second best if not identical to Verizon's coverage.
Sprint and T-Mobile are out if the question for me, been there done that.

I agree with you on that one, 200GB/month is a bit excessive and almost abusive to the network load. But for those of us that use 12GB and end up getting our plans yanked from us is insulting. I know I purposefully sought out wifi wherever I could to keep unnecessary use of network resources to a minimum. This is the thanks I was given for my consideration.
To say I feel insulted is putting it lightly.

Oh I feel insulted for you as well. 12GB is not that bad at all. I average 45gb and have not received a letter yet. This whole ordeal is ridiculous. I would rather they implement a cap on the unlimited, like say 100GB or even 40GB and then slow us way down instead of just straight up removing us.
