Hey I'm new to android, just got a vibrant last week. Decided to unlock it as I travel a lot. The unlock worked, but now I'm having issues with my wifi. I can connect to a wireless network but I cant load pages. The wireless signal is strong and I tried with different routers, but still no luck. Looked through the forum and googled it but couldn't find a solution. If some one could please help with this, it would be much appreciated
try clearing your current wifi settings including remembered connections, passwords, and everything else...then re-scan for networks all over again, that's all I can think of for now
By that you mean just gong into settings->wireless and networks->wifi settings and then just forget the net work, rescan, and rejoin the network? If so, I did that but am still getting the same result. If you can think of anything else or if I didnt do what you suggested correctly please let me know. Thanks

yeah, thats what I meant :/....hmmm...sounds like your connection is working, can you download stuff from the market or is it just the browser? cause I unlocked mine too and wifi works fine
No I cant download anything from the market. I cant do anything that requires an internet connection, but it does show that I am connected to a network.

hmmm...im out of tips then ...perhaps some other members can be of more assistance
I sure hope so, thanks for your help
Have you been able to try another network? My first thought was it was in Ad-Hoc mode but I could be wrong. If nothing else restore to stock firmware and then try a different unlock.
Happened to me too. It would show the wifi icon on the notification bar but wouldn't load pages. I'd go to the settings and it'd say can't turn off wifi or can't turn on wifi. And when it was "on" I'd say connecting to modem then it'd just stop. When I was using the browser on wifi it would load a page even when I had full bars. I had to turn it off then back on to load another page. Is this similar to the problem your having?

I hope this doesn't sound stupid but yesterday I uninstalled Advanced Task Manager and poof my wifi started working again. The phone also seems to suffer from less occasional lag without it installed, but that's another story for another thread. Prior to this I had to manually turn my wifi connection off and on, but even that didn't always work. Since the uninstall I have not my wifi connection once. I am currently using the stock rom, rooted with minor adjustments here and there.
hi guys, i also have this problem.
i will be taking the phone in to the tmobile store on thursday.
it shows that i am connected via wifi; however, anything that requires an internet connection does not load.
very frustrating, since just yesterday i used the samsung kies software to tether a network for my laptop. i was testing the capability of the vibrant to act as a modem, and it worked just fine.
any help would be appreciated!
thank you
Charlie
connected but not connected
I also have this problem.
In my Vibrant shows that i connected, but i can not load pages. Someone
found any solution to this problem?
Hi all,
This is happening to me too. Rebooting seems to get Wifi working correctly again. But the problem comes back eventually.
Maybe a bug in the latest JI6 update?
Wi-fi problem.
Someone found any solution for this problem?
Froyo's update will fix this issue?
Thanks.
i hang on you **** iphone users they just bay for its cool smartphone **** iphone android is the king
Hope someone can help with this: rooted the other day using the htc unlocker method. so s-on with root and still stock rom..have not changed anything other than install busybox. no other changes. have not even gotten to flashing roms yet. So the phone will not recognize my home towifi. when it scans for networks, it sees everybody (neighbors) but mine as being in range (even tho i am sitting next to it). at one point i finally got it to connect yesterday, but then when i went to work it never disconnected and returned to 3g, so when i went to use my internet for something it said it was still connected, when in fact it wasn't. so no data and no 3g. I had to physically turn off wifi to get the phone to be able to connect to 3g. now i am back home, it will not connect again. the phone does not see my network as being "in range", therefore will not connect.
I have several other devices that connect to the network just fine (like my laptop I am typing on).
any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
There's an app called WiFi analyzer and WiFi manager available on the play store. Idk y it isn't connecting to your WiFi now when it did before, but maybe one of these 2 apps can help.
WiFi analyzer will tell u what channels thw other WiFi networks are on in your area. It could be an issue of interference. It will also tell u the best channel to put your WiFi on to avoid that interference.
Do u have best WiFi performance on in settings-WiFi? Turn it off/on see if it makes a difference. Off is optimal since it kills batteries.
WiFi manager helped my phone recognize and connect to open networks quicker than stock settings did. Maybe try that as well.
Is your connection password secured? WPA/WPA2, WPK? Is it a linksys router? Try making a static ip for your phone. My phone would never connect at work on an open network until I made it a static ip. Or it would connect and never send data.
Actually, try that first, I forgot about that. If its an older linksys router that's probably what it is.

I will try some of those things, but I don't think that is it. whatever is wrong is coming from root. everything was fine before that. and i don't know anything about setting up a static ip. not a linksys, btw.

Root doesn't have anything to do with your WiFi. It is highly unlikely anyways. Google how to set up static ip. U can do it right from your phone.
Your router doesn't show up at all or does is try to connect and nothing? Mine tried to connect and nothing. To set up a static ip your phone needs to at least see the router.
If you're rooted are u s-off? Either way, try installing a rom of your choice and doing a full wipe to clear out whatever is causing the issue. Maybe try installing new radios/firmware. RUU to newest ota version.
Good luck!

downloaded wifi analyzer, but that doesn't really help me figure out why the wifi will not connect or disconnect properly. As stated in my original post I am rooted, s-on, with unlocked bootloader htc method. this problem is almost exactly the same problem i had my samsung s2 when it first came out. the radio would not wake up after sleeping and the wifi radio was all messed up. In exactly the same way..
once it connects it is ok, but when i leave the house it never disconnects! so when i go out, it does not switch over to the 3g radio, and at that point i have to TURN OFF wifi. When I come back in the house then i have to go through another long process of trying to get it to connect to my wifi again. I did not change ANYTHING after rooting. So it has got to be related to that somehow....it just says. "MWOI0 not in range", but yet it will show 5 others in the neighborhood as being available (all secured like mine).
Does your regular computer/laptop connect to your wifi?
Have you rebooted your router/modem?
We had a power outage/surge one day and the computers connected still had connection, but the items which were disconected (phones left house for work) would not reconnect.
I know it sounds simple, but we spent half an hour figuring out why some devices had wifi and some didn't.
You are seeing neighbors wifi's, that's why I suggest this.
I also noticed this other thread, maybe related,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691189
There's an app called tasker in play store that allows u to turn on/off wifi by location automatically. It costs a pretty penny, but definitely worth it. The possibilities are exponential with that app.
Look into setting a static ip & change the channel on your router. Give u advice and u don't want to try it. Do u really want it fixed or is it just an annoyance u like to complain about?
Static ip worked for my phone in a similar situation. Up to u to implement the fixes.
After a full wipe, and flashing the 11-10 nightly, I am still having issues with wifi connections. I've had these issues for roughly 1-2 months, and it is becoming a pretty big hassle since I am eating up a lot of data without usable wifi.
Since there is a horrible rule that requires me to have 10 posts before I can post in the actual projects thread, I guess I will have to start here and hope someone sees this. If you need logcat/anything else, let me know.
I've tried turning off 'Scanning always available' and I've set the frequency to 2.4 only in the settings, no differences so far.
are you trying to connect to a wep connection or a wpa/wpa2? if so either way youo must log into admin mode on router via web browser and enter mac address of device which allows device to use router dont ask why possible security feature

No, I don't. It failing to hold a connection on any type of network. Open/WEP/WPA-2/whatever.
enter admin mode of router and add your mac address on phone in about phone and then reboot phone and see what happens it should connect right on with wep or wpa/wpa2

It has nothing to do with MAC addresses being allowed/disallowed.
ok fella what kernel are you running stock?also are you s-on or s-off if your s-off then hopefully your aware of needing to flash boot.img via fastboot and modules via recovery.
other then im short on a answer and i would provide a logcat to palmer or zarboz as they are very well master in my opinon in kernel dev and can easily help you if your nice to them.
and the mac address issue is one of the most common problems with wifi not connecting ( which for the most part is for wep only but for me it was for wep and wpa/wpa2 so those are the three main issues unless you have modem issues on your device when can happen but not likely

crpalmer's 4.9.0 with the 11-11 nightly. This wifi problem has persisted through a few different versions and full wipes. I've tried with both the 11-11 kernel, and crpalmer's. Both show no differences.

Does this occur with all roms or just with CM roms? What happens when you are at a public wifi spot? Need to figure out rom Issue phone issue or local wifi issue.

I haven't jumped to any other ROMs, but it has kept up through multiple full wipes (format everything) and re-installs of CM for a solid month now. The result is the same, whether the access point is one on or off campus, at my friends house, open security or WPA2. It will connect briefly, drop, and sometimes it will show that wifi was turned off and turned back on. Other times, I might actually hold a connection for an hour or so, but those are more rare than finding a unicorn.

Try WPA 2 with AES encryption, if that doesn't work
Back up CM and try Viper. wIFI can be a funny beast to tame

I've tried setting up my own access points and going through all the different scenarios, and I got nothing. I'm just confused as to how it is persisting through all of these perfectly clean flashes, even when other users say everything is working fine. I am probably just going to throw a hail mary and try to flash CM11 tonight.

You don't say if you had issues prior to flashing CM... Is this something that has always been including stock?
Mine will not connect to one router I have on the guest account, that is a router issue as it will connect to my other router on a guest account. The routers are in different buildings, are different brands and one is new. Also try to connect on the 5 G band instead of the 2.4 G band

Prior to CM it was fine. Actually I believe I remember it being fine long ago on CM, though there's no way I could accurately tell you when about it was. This happens on every router I've gone tried. It's more like the actual wifi radio is turning off/on when it disconnects (which you can see it do in the settings if you watch). 5/2.4Ghz seem to be about the same. I've left it on 2.4GHz for a while now since that seems to make it a little more stable, but I'd take that with a grain of salt.

Do a back up and try Viper to see if that cures it. There have been others that have had issues with wi fi, it may be your unit won't tolerate something in the rom. They all have their own quirks.
I have an Asus Slider Sl101. Around 3 days ago, our router had been changes as the previous one wasn't working properly. Our carrier is Charter and our router is Netgear. We hooked every device up to that new router and everything worked fine, including the tablet. But later on in the day,the Internet on there stopped working.
It shows that it's connected, but when I try to access the internet through the browser, it does not work. The blue line at the top of the browser starts up, moves forward a little, and stops entirely while the browser then says "Webpage Not Available". Apps that require Internet, such as Accuweather and my SAT apps, fail to work as well. Other devices that use our wifi include another computer and Nintendo DSi and 3DS. They all work fine. Our router shows that our android is connected to it, as well.
I've tried the static IP stuff, restarted the router, left the wifi off on the tablet for a few hours, and turned it off and off. I even factory resetted it and not even that helped.
I apologize in advance if I haven't given enough information; that's as much as I know save for whatever I can include from the tablet (IP Address and such).
Try changing encryption method

It can be modified from the admin panel of your router. Obviously, each connected device must be upgraded to the new encryption method.
However, you can simply do a test and see if the connection works

Probably
If the problem is not of the device, many network problems are usually caused by encryption or are due to the channel where the router works. Both settings are settable in the admin panel.
Try changing these.. Remember to make a backup first!

The things is, though, my tablet was working when we changed the router. Ever since then, nothing has changed when it comes to settings and all. Every other mobile device is working well and the computer out front that uses wifi works well.
In your eyes, the router seems to be the main problem, right? Do you think if we call our internet provider--Charter-- and ask for a new one that it might be able to work as it will be new and all? Or will it most likely not help too much?

hi sir i have already hack wifi paasword but not connected
password is correct sometime before i have connect
Is the router 2.4 or 5ghz, and is the tablet the same?
My phone is HTC 620G but I think its not important because I've factory reset it and it didnt help. The problem is I'm connected to wifi but I can't access to internet. Sometimes I can but its way too slow, way way slow so as I said I formatted the phone but it didnt help. Waiting for your help
edit: I dont have any problems at other devices like laptop or phones but my phone...
edit2:When I connected to wifi near any device, the other devices internet connection got lost, its been so annoying i wanna get rid of this issue immediately
2.4 or 5ghz? What encryption ie wpa wep open? Can other devices connect to the wifi? Is the channel congested?

You might want to check the router settings. Some routers have a default limit on how many devices can be connected at once. It sounds like either that or IP address conflicts.

It could be about ip address because there isn't so much device, so what should I do? And I think it could be about dns settings, I tried something for that but couldn't solve it
