Which Rom/Radio/Kernel is Everyones Favorite? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently running the Evil Fascinate 3.6 Rom with the OTB Reloaded 1.6 Kernel and the official ED04 Radio. Definitley like this setup but was wondering if there is anything else i should try? Haven't really done anything as far as overclocking but i would like to speed up my phone a bit but not too much were it kills my battery. and would like to get the best possible signal as far as the radio goes. The radio I'm using i will sometimes have a missed call or lose satellite location within the GPS. Just looking for any setup recommendations that someone else might be using that is getting a great result in every category. Any theme recommendations would be appreciated as well. I don't have a theme flashed yet with the EF 3.6 because I like the black theme.

I'm running ComRom 2.1 over ED01 with imnuts' PBJ -50 voodoo kernel. My fascinate doesn't take kindly to overclocking so PBJ is perfect. Phone's pretty snappy and gets good battery life (24+ hours on a full charge with moderate use), and I have yet to miss a call. Signal is decent like always and I usually get a pretty quick lock with gps.

I use Jt1134's CM7 (0704 build) with Nemesis2all's OTB for MIUI/CM7 (0704 build)
I have it OCed to 1.4 GHz running stable. (Battery life is excellent too. . .*)
I use the ED01 radio. It seems very stable and the signal is great.
*Still needs calibrated though. . . will update when done.

Question about CM7?
Ok thanks for the info. Quick ?, are you running into any problems with the CM7 rom? Heard some people had issues with MMS and some other things?

MMS is not functional in CM7. At all. Since I rarely (if ever) need or use MMS, I don't mind.
Keep in mind CM7 is still in an alpha state. So it has a couple minor issues (LED cannot be used as a torch, there is a little bit of lag in some of the sensors, etc.) But it is the most functional "alpha" I have seen.

Running EC09 radio. No complaints here.

Im running the same ROM/kernel ED04 radio setup and am getting SOD frequently. You having that problem?

never heard of that happening with ComRom, I suspect ED04 may have something to do with it.. I don't really know what to do about that except maybe a full data/cache wipe and reflash of ComRom or changing your radio to ED01 or maybe even EB01, never had a problem with those

Rom: Jt's CM7 Build 0713
Kernel: Nemesis2all's OTB 2.6.35.13
Radio: EC09
Everything has been running superbly with this set up

Is the GB radio and a rom good enough for stable daily driver?

Is the GB radio leak and a rom good enough for a stable daily driver. Also which rom would you recommend? I'm using the froyo based Bamf remix right now.
CM7
I'm running CM7 with the 223r radio. I don't know about the 2.0 GB radio. It is a bit of a process to get everything working on CM7 at this point. I had to flash twice just to get the GPS working. It was well worth it in my opinion. It was the only way that I know of to get BT wiimote working. I prefer AOSP over any manufactured UI. I do have a reboot a day or so. I get a GPS within a minute or so. I've had to re-apply the wifi fix once. So if you're a tinkerer or you don't mind flashing go for it.

The radio is the best thing that comes with the GB leak, IMHO. Signal is better for me.

Since you're running this rom, could you tell me if wireless tether works? I am currently on vacation and need to make sure that wireless tether works before installing a rom. Thanks.

Sorry to say I have not tried it, but what I have read that has more to do with the kernel. I would say load the rom then go and get this kernel.

Concur!! Everything with the GB radio so far has been excellent.
Gingeritis beta VII
Only issue is the stock messaging app has time stamp issues making them come in out of oorder. For me at least. Handcent doesn't have this issue.
Thanks for posting this thread! I had the same question, and thanks to all who replied.
I'm most probably gonna try out Gingeritis. Hopefully there aren't too many issues that prevents it from being my daily driver for sometime..
You can still get WiFi Tether in the Market.
Step 1.) Turn On Airplane Mode
Step 2.) Turn On WiFi
Step 3.) Go Into App Market and Search for "WiFI Tether"
Step 4.) Download and TADA!
It worked for me a few days ago.
Bamf GB has ben solid for me...known issue with the camera hack can lag but does the job for now
I've flashed das BAMF 2.0 betas 2,3, and 4.01 and the only hiccup I've had was one random reboot immediately after flashing beta 3. Everything that I use on a daily basis is fully functional. Unfortunately I'm not able to speak about wireless tether or blue tooth because I never use either of them. Also, I'm not in a 4g area, so I don't know about LTE functionality or 3g/4g transitions. I was very hesitant to flash a ROM based on the gingerbread leak, but team BAMF has really done a great job with an alpha leak. It is definitely stable for me and is my current daily driver, although I know there have been bugs experienced by other users. Lastly, I had been moving away from Sense with the froyo ROMs. I was very impressed with CM7 alpha test 4, and I was using Vanilla Bean 1.2.1 as my daily driver before the gingerbread leak. However, the new Sense 3.0 aspects of das BAMF 2.0 and a couple of the other gingerbread ROMs are great.
Gingeritis works awesome! I love the Sense 3.0 stuff, My speedtest.net almost doubled in my house... maybe it was an anomaly, but I ran the speedtest via the flash based website 3 times with the same results...
No, as of 5.25.11 jcase has informed the community that running the leaked Gingerbread radio could lead to a bricked device.

I'm running Gingeritis VIII and it's a daily. Runs great!
Is the ffc with yahoo and the like working?

It's all about what you want to deal with. Both the new GB leak and CM7 have bugs. If you can see past the bugs because you the functionality and features outweigh the bugs, then you would definitely want to use them as daily drivers. If, on the other hand, you want something a little bit more stable, you may wish to stick with a Froyo ROM. BAMF 1.6.3 for Froyo is excellent.
You'll also have to deal with missing functionality since it's new.
Kernel isn't stable (mainly an issue if you happen to want to adjust the voltage, etc), but you might get random reboots either way.
No direct internet connection sharing to your pc via usb (using your phone's connection for internet).
Many of the modifications have not been ported you would find in froyo roms or if they have, they're a work in progress (6 bar signal, battery icon).
GPS isn't quite as quick as it was due to the unstable nature of the leak.
Various other little things here and there that are missing/buggy like the camera not working entirely correct as it would in froyo.
If you want to be a beta tester/lab rat, feel free to flash
Das BAMF 2.0-4.01 and loving the sense 3.0 in it
for das bamf, un install htc sync and reinstall and the connection works perfectly again

Gingerbread Sound Issues... Froyo Dropback?

Hey folks,
I've been playing with CM7 for so long that I have completely lost touch with Froyo builds... but my wife has pretty much laid down the law that if I can't hear her when she calls me, I can sleep on the couch.
That said, there exists no Gingerbread for the Fascinate which has acceptable in-call sound volume levels. I know they're working on it, but until they succeed (end of year, maybe? Maybe sooner? Who knows!) I need to drop back to Froyo.
What's a good build nowadays? Don't much care whether it's Touchwiz or not, so long as it's debloated, rooted, and not going to go belly-up with the latest recovery...
Thoughts?
- Gurm
Wrong section...
But powerwashed or geewiz would be your best option. I ditched CM7 due to call/speaker volume and other reasons.
I would suggest either GeeWiz or Powerwash if you want one that is based off of ED05, which supposedly fixes the missed call issue. If you want the most customizable I'd go with CommRom 2.1; however if you use any kernels bundled with it they will be pre-ED05 and may still have the issue. I'd try CommRom 2.1 with either PBJ's 8/08 build or Powerwash's new OTB based kernel, both of which are ED05 based.
Just my $.02 worth.

EH09 ROM?

Current Config in my signature....
Curious about EH09 ROM.
Can this be had and used with MIUI?
Any improvements/gains over previos ROMS; specifically GPS?
Any concerns with this ROM?
Though it is pretty new, what are the majority impressions of the EH09 ROM?
Thanks for your help
I really like it other than the slow data speeds. Really snappy rom that flies, but only get .4mb down no matter what speed test used. That was pw eh09 w/ ec09 modem. On pw ed05 w/ ec09 modem usually get .8-1.2 down. Not sure if anything can be done but I have others say the same thing.
There are a few issues with EH09 such as occasional screen freezeups and lower in-call volume. Otherwise it's a very good Rom considering it's not made for the Fascinate.

what is the best of the best

i was wondering what everybody was running? Im still on evil fascinate, ed04 (which sucks), with a standard volt kernel running overclocked at 1.24 or it gets all glitchy and force closes. Im wondering what rom, kernel, radio combo works the best these days. Ive been reading all sorts of stuff and am just not oo sure what to go with. I use my phone alot for web surfing, a few games, music, etc. I also wondered if my aftermarket extended battery will work. any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all the devs that make this possibel cause without them this phone really sucks ass.
I have been searching for a great daily and after trying the cm7.1 Rom I thought it was great, the only deal breaker for me was the sound issues with speakerphone. So i tried powerwashed and think is great, very stable and reliable.
Hope that helps, try it see what you think.

honestly im not sure how you could consider the speakerphone echo a deal breaker on cm7.1... thats a very minimal issue at best imo, but to each is own. I do agree pwbg is a great rom aswell.
After constantly bouncing around ROMs, this is honestly the best setup I have had thus far: PWGB ROM with the Adrenaline Shot, fixpermissions.zip, EC09 radio, and the GeeWiz 2.1 kernel (very basic kernel, flashed to remove hotspot monitoring). I have tried the custom kernels but they remove a lot of stability for me. Also check out the sweet honeycomb theme for it!
do i just odin the eho9 radio? i have ed04 and i have trouble with having 3g or any signal for that matter. would eh09 be better? will it work with cm7, miui, or powerwsahed?
Yes Odin the ec09 modem...much better than ed04 IMO. Getting 1.3mb down on speakeasy.
I'm still running EC01, even with PWGB. Never had a data/call problem, ever.
I use my speakerphone a lot, so for me it is a deal breaker, it's a great Rom nonetheless
For powerwashed i restored back to original since i had to use the pit file to repatriation, think is great so far.

And here is why you have to try all the roms yourself. i was on powerwashed GB rom and i hated it. Very glitchy and the touchscreen would freeze. Tried everything to try and cure it, adrenaline shot, turning off the 100mhz setting. To make matters worse something in that rom borked my connection to a PC, I couldnt get it to recognize my phone. I tried for 3 days finally got a connection and i dumped that pile. CM7.1 and been pretty good so far tho all roms have glitches you just have to try out what works best for you.
BTW best data connection I ever got was on the EB01 radio, I was getting 1.5 meg down. EC09 was horrible I got around 200k down. I'm on ED05 now will see how it does.
Im set up on powerwashed now and my screen freezes and im constantly takeing screenshots. I think im gonna give espresso a try. Thanks to everyone whos giveing their two cents on this. Greatly appreciated but I guess its trial and error. I do like to see everbodys feedback tho.

Well what I have seen here lately is that their are multiple ways to root. But on top of that all the roms have different glitches. So I'm still stuck with debating and fixing my phone constantly. I'm running an old miui and can't really see a way to try the new 1.10.14.

once the glitch kernel implements Jt's GPS fix, cm7.1 and glitch will be the best and fastest! It's the most overclock and also You can under-volt more than another kernel.

Glitch already is imo... I just use gps booster from market until the fix is implemented. Getting the same gps results as jt's kernal this way.

Is it worth going to a gingerbread rom?

So I am on Superclean 2.9.2 with a voodoo kernel, and radio is EB01
I have not upgraded in at least 6 months+
So far my phone has been pretty stable, only big thing I would love is to find a rom that has much better battery life, but I doubt i will find that, just the way smartphones are.
What are the real advantages of going to some of these new GB roms? I see cm has some issues with Flashcard, and not sure if it will even work with mine since still using stock that came with phone, and data dropping out.
Thanks
GB tends to be faster. Miui is the only one that I've used that data never drops out. I'd say battery life is similar for me between TW (2.2) and GB.
I'm on miui and glitch and I average at least 14 hours which I'm happy with, I very seldom half to plug it in other than during the night.

it depends what you want...if you are happy with your setup, back it up before trying other stuff
fwiw i run dh12 with the stock kernel and am very happy
which one is dh12?
I am getting confused which modem is best? EC09? EH09? EI20?
I read in one post EC09 can corrupt SDcard? so best to stay way from that one? and stick to EH09 and EI20?

dh12 was a joke (it was our launch rom last september)
you cannot use eh09 or ei20 modem on the vzw fascinate...ec09 is *usually* the best modem to use on gb (aosp or tw) but some people have better results with eb01 or ec01

OK but now I am even more confused...i see here for example
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274561
Says Ei20?
Is this rom not for fascinate?
Ok I went with MUI and followed the detailed directions so I am on EC09 modem. I think I messed up the terminology when I asked that last question.
About to install the glitch kernel now..i feel like I have a new phone now...totally different..LOL
My battery actually improved with gb
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I think the PowerWashed GB (it is from the mesmerize, and is NOT an SDcard risk) is a great rom. Better battery life, 0 force closes, and the radio is amazingly consistent(data or calls are VERY rarely dropped. The speed of my fascinate also improved.
My only caveat with this rom is 3 fold... There is a charge bug, where it tells you your battery is 100% when it's 95% or 87%. Second, there is no verizon network recognition (the market doesn't have verizon apps, essentially. Everything else network based works perfectly though). Lastly... After being created and made nearly perfect... Development has stalled out on it. The battery charge issue is one of the only things I'd like to see developed, but I'm not sure that will happen.
In short... Try gingerbread, i don't think you'll regret it.
