[Q] Help finding a ROM that works!!!! - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all. I am having trouble finding a Rom that will work on my Fascinate. I have ROM Manager and all the options I am getting from that are for builds that are different than mine. I tried several that were not labeled with a build and they all failed. I am using Clockwork Mod recovery. As it finishes the restart and begins applying the Rom it says that files failed to initialize. Operation aborted. Here are my phone details:
Firmware: 2.2.1 Froyo
Base band: S:i500.04 V.EC01
Kernel:2.6.32.9
Build:SCH-I500.ED03.
Any suggestions on a Rom and kernel (non-voodoo please) that will work with my phone? Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to flash via Odin to accomplish this? I would rather use Clockwork Mod if possible. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Please excuse my ignorance as I am pretty new at this rooting stuff but learn a bit more everyday. Thanks again.

1. ROM manager is a big no-no for the fascinate.
2. You probably need to install a newer CWM via odin.
3. I am using ComRom2.1 w/ OTB 1/6 kernal (voodoo) but all you have to do is disable voodoo in the CWM settings.
4. Not sure why you don't want a voodoo kernal.

Scroll though that thread. It has all the current roms and kernals and even CWM versions.

[Q] Help with choosing the correct Voodoo Lagfix to my Vibrant

Hi,
I'm planning to install voodoo lag fix 5.x on my Vibrant so I went to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480 to download the odin version but when I open that thread I was confused ! I didn't know which one to choose because there are a lot of builds !
Can anybody tell me which one is the perfect fit to Stock ROM 2.1 ?!
Thanks in advance ..
Well the "insert whatever here" + voodoo is the modem that goes with that install. JL5 is the most current leaked modem, which is the one I would go for. Also, i would go with the update.zip voodoo because it's better to flash with a .zip than with a .tar.
Also, remember that if you DO NOT disable voodoo before flashing a DIFFERENT rom, you will most likely soft brick. But I would go with JL5 + voodoo.zip
Im pretty.sure those kernels are for 2.2 roms. I wouldn't use those since.your running stock 2.2.
Powered by Axura with a dash of Voodoo

[Q] Options in the reboot menu

I have rooted my Vibrant using ROM Manager/Flash CWM Recovery. (I'm running 2.2, Kernel 2.6.32.9, Build FROYO.UVKA6.) I used this method because no matter what folder on the external or internal sd card I could not use the 'reinstall packages' option on the reboot screen. Now, I'm trying to place the Bionx or Nero ROMs on my phone, but can't get anything to install no matter what I do.
I don't think I anything wrong with the root because I kept getting the same 'E:signature verification failed Installation aborted' message everyone else seems to be getting. I'm wondering if Samsung/T-Mo didn't put anything in to prevent rooting and adding new ROMs.
I have rebooted my phone multiple times and have not gotten any results. Along with ROM Manager, I have Busybox installed.
Please feel free to ask questions for more details. I'm a noob to rooting, so I definitely allow for the fact that I might have screwed something up and will need to start over.

This is because you are now on 2.2. Samsung patched the exploit from 2.1 that allowed cwm recovery to be flashed. The best thing I can tell you to do since you have root would be to either
A) ODIN down to 2.1 ROM then root again, then install rom manager and from there you can install cwm recovery OR
B) Use this method I posted based on Supercurios voodoo kernels found here:
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Samsung-Vibrant/on-steps-to-flash-Bionix-V-1-2/m-p/720803#M5807 (look for the answer marked solution - and because you have root skip ONLY that part and download the proper supercurio's zip not the tar).
Supercurio's vibrant kernels found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480
Do this before you try anything else, this is your quickest and least painful solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
Then:
When you boot into recovery and hit Reinstall Packages, the phone might reboot back into recovery, Reinstall Packages again and it will take you to the mod recovery, no more sig. verification.
Congrats!
Thanks.....
roumenjr and mavsfan.
I was able to get the root done. I took roumenjr's suggestion and it worked once I figured out that I was placing the ROMs in the wrong folder.
Now running Bionix Obsidian v2.
oooops..............

[Q] Flashing Kernel help!

Hey guys so ive been trying to Flash the SUPER_DragonMODz kernel but for some reason it does not want to work. Ive used sgs kernel and used the clockworks mod to install the kernel but for some reason it doesnt want to work. Not sure what im doing wrong. Ive tried installing while on Axura 2.2.9, Bionix 1.2, and even did a complete factory reset with ODIN but nothing seems to work.
Thanks for the help guys!
Voodoo
From what I have read that kernel is good but it only oc's when you are using multiple processes, gaming, ect...
Make sure your rooted.
Why don't you try loading up a voodoo+ lag fix on whatever rom you are running. I seen a huge difference in speeds and stability plus easy access to clockwork recovery that overrides the stock vibrant recovery. Then you can download CPU Master and put your mhz/ghz to what you want on boot up
Give it a try.
Don't know about bionix but Axura may have a framework that is incompatible with that kernel
Also, go into recovery and flash it through there instead using a app that will give you the best chance for a kernel to take. But, my guess that kernel may not be for that rom. Try a different one and see..........

Help flashing ROMs on this phone.......

I have been trying my best for the last 3 hours to flash a rom on this damn phone. I have rooted it and installed a custom Recovery. However ever time I flash any ROM to this phone through clockwork I get an error in clockwork mod stating assert failed and gives a bunch of code and then says status 7. What the heck is going on here ? I have flashed roms for years using this site and I have never had so much trouble. Can someone help me PLEASE ?
If you are getting status 7,you should Odin back to stock..then read the thread for the one you want to flash.

Shakes is right. Odin back to stock (check md5 first), root, make sure you install the right version of clockwork. There are at least two flavors of CWM 4.0, two of 3.0, and something like four of 2.x. After you've figured the right CWM, DL your chosen ROM and run a checksum to make sure the zip is intact. Then flash away. If you break/brick, Odin back to stock again. Repeat until you get a config you like.

What rom (which stock) were you running before? Even more important what kernal? And which CWR? Before you flashed back to stock were you running a voodoo kernal? and if so did you disable lagfix? I had the same problem and it was that lagfix was still enable.

[Q] Leaving Froyo (Bionix 1.3.1) for JellyBean: dazed & confused

My T-mobile is running on Bionix 1.3.1 by Team Whiskey (Android 2.2, baseband T959UVKB1, kernel 2.6.32.9). It was good then, but now it is outdated, slow and I want to move on to the latest and greatest Jelly Bean.
It has been a while since the last time I played with custom ROM. Coming back here and reading the latest stuff on Jelly Bean custom ROM makes me dazed and confused. There are new terms that I am not familiar with: Download Mode, Heimdall suite, ....
Why do I need Odin, Heimdall to flash a ROM ? Before, you just copy a ROM over, boot into CWM recovery and flash.
I got conflicting info: some says you must upgrade to Gingerbread bootloader, other say just wipe and flash new Jelly Bean ROM. Most Jelly Bean ROM requires me to get to CM9 or CM10 and proceed from there. Then reading install instruction for CM10 is a cognitive disonance experience. Nothing is familiar to the way I used to do Android 2.2 custom ROM.
* If there is any Bionix user out there who has moved on to Jelly Bean, I appreciate if you could share your experience.

It's best to go back to stock 2.1 or 2.2 with ODIN or Heimdall via download mode, and then go from there. Here's the steps I followed -- I can't guarantee they're all needed, but they worked fine for me. No guarantees they'll work for you. Don't do this if you're not comfortable with flashing significantly different roms.
1. I went back to a rooted 2.2 with CWM recovery via the UVKB5 Heimdall One Click file -- find the file and instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26588447&postcount=1. You'll need to be able to put your phone in download mode; these instructions always worked for me in the old days: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7255222&postcount=17. The phone will boot into download mode and it will have a yellow triangle and say downloading. The nice thing about the one click file is you don't really need to know how to work with ODIN or Heimdall since it runs Heimdall for you.
2. I turned off Voodoo lagfix. There are various ways, but you can easily do it in CWM recovery.
3. Then I flashed the latest nightly for CM10.1 from recovery following instructions at http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_vibrantmtd. Since I already have CWM recovery I skipped that installation step in the CM wiki instructions. I also didn't use ADB to put the file on the internal SD. Be sure to also flash the right gapps file.
You don't need Gingerbread bootloaders and if you're not comfortable with using ODIN or Heimdall then you can certainly skip flashing them. Basically, for JB they just make it easier to boot into download mode or into recovery (simpler button "holds").
Once you have CM10 or 10.1 running you can easily flash other JB roms via recovery if you wish. I would wipe data, fix permissions, etc. when doing that. Good luck.
Dazed and Confused, I love that movie... Smoke the Fire Crypt !
