Voicemail acting weird... - HTC EVO 3D

Please help, I got the 3d on release day and the visual voicemail has never worked, when someone leaves me a voicemail instead of the sprint voicemail app letting me know or getting a notification on the bar I get a text message from 9016 with a cryptic message that tells me someone left a message, my friends both have OG evos that are doing the same thing, but my wifes og evo running myn 2.2 works fine, wtf, is this a 2.3 issue or what

are you using handsent? I have been having the same problem. Called sprint 3 times. They factory reset my phone and that worked. then it started not working again. Sprint told me to take back my phone and get a new one.
a quick search came up with Handsent issue. If you set handsent to be the default messaging program and disable the stock one, it messes up the VVM. uncheck the box for use as default, and it should start working again. That is what fixed mine.

Thanks HuduVuDu, that was confusing me for a week now, and I couldn't figure out what is going wrong.

Please help: Receiving one empty MMS for every SMS that I get

Hi guys
It has happened twice now that my phone has started receiving an MMS prior to every SMS that comes in. The MMS is empty and it comes from "unknown".
The first time a couple of weeks ago, I was on the phone for 14 hours to fix it; re-installed everything on it including flashing SBF's and starting clean. Nothing helped. After a day the issue magically took care of itself.
Now it started again, 4-5 days ago. I have installed everything fresh (SBF to 1.2.6, 1.5.7 OTA & 1.8.3 OTA), did a factory reset & formated both internal & external storage space; issue still there on an absolutely stock phone. Called the helpdesk of my provider as well, they've never heard of the issue before.
On a desperate attempt to fix it I accidentally removed the messaging apk, took a good while to find one again..
Does anyone have any other ideas I can try? Please, it's driving me mad..

Thanks for your help. I found it easier to start a less congested thread with all the background summarized. Hope I didn't crush the internet by doing so..
Are you using Handcent or Chomp? Is whatever you are using your "default" message app? I was getting duplicate MMS messages until I went into my actual contact list, selected a contact, then tried to send a message to them, it then prompted me to select my message app. I am using Handcent, so I selected Handcent and put a check mark in use as default. I no longer have the problem. Hope this helps...

Thanks for your reply, I am using Chomp sms and it is the default messaging app. It's not that though, I am receiving an empty MMS 5-10 seconds before every SMS I receive. It was the first thing I tried when I returned to stock as I describe above, issue was there. Immensely frustrating..
Bumping this up, need urgently advise as I'm about to throw the damn thing out the window..
Just spoke with the o2 helpdesk, there's nothing they can see /. They have now shut off my data connection, I have disabled all data and I am still getting that fckng MMS!!!
Update: Solved. Got a new SIM. Or that I asked them to freeze my data connection & the new SIM kick-started it again & removed the issue. Goes to show again the incompetence of (many) helpdesk agents; they insisted it was phone related..

Voicemail Icon

I don't if this is a common thing but my voicemail icon does not go away and I do not have any voicemails when I call it. I tried turning off the phone and it still does not wanna go away can't figure out how to get rid of it.
Update: uuhh nevermind found a settings to clear icon lol please delete this
Where did you find it? I have the same issue. The "clear" right there that is with the pulldown does not do the trick; it clears everything but the voicemail icon.
I had the same problem when I first got the phone. I called T-MO support and they did something on their end that fixed it.
I had the same issue and when I called T-mobile they tried to do something on their end but could not fix it as I was using google voice on my old phone to handle voicemail. So I installed google voice and I changed the setup so my vm be returned to T-mobile. Called my phone to double check and T-Mobile voicemail options were coming up. I left a message and deleted it and everything cleared. Then installed google voice and set that up again and since then it has been fine. Thanks.

Wow .. a lot of work to remove one little icon. ..
You have to do it in settings lol
The clear on the notification bar doesn't clear voicemail

Text's wont stop

My girlfriend's Photon will not stop receiving texts. It's been receiving the same messages over and over all day and also randomly her bottom soft keys light up for no reason. Any ideas? This happens with Go SMS installed and also with stock messaging and Go NOT installed. Also when Go was installed, notifications on the stock messaging were turned off.
I had that issue...... i would suggest to delete all apps if possible and reinstall. Or back up everything and under settings do a factory reset on it. I thought my issue was a screen capture app that did it. I had the same text come to me freakin 25 times within 4 hours i was pissed.

[Q] Voice Mail icon

So after upgrading to ICS I have a voice mail icon on my notification bar. This is a data only device for me with no access to voice mail does anybody have an way to clear the icon?
Kirby
Ditto! Had it since first upgrading myself. Just figured out you can slide notifications away after pulling em all up, but sadly that one won't budge.
It's not a big problem, but does get rather annoying.

This does remove the notification but borks the entire system. No cellular reception at all if you remove the phone.apk and .odex.
similar issue here
I got my Mediapad 2 weeks ago and had to get a new TMO SIM to make calls (old SIM refused to connect to network). I have had the new voicemail icon ever since and I have not upgraded or rooted anything. I'm looking forward to getting a clue on this mystery!

The typical way to get rid of this is to call yourself and leave a voicemail then delete that voicemail. I've had this problem on Android devices in general on the last few iterations of the OS. The problem with the Mediapad is that most of us have a data only plan on our tablets.
I had a similar problem when I asked T-Mo to disable voicemail on my prepaid SIM. Ever since, any device I plug the SIM into remains convinced that there's a new voicemail. This has remained the case for 1.5 years now. Perhaps this is an overall problem with their provisioning of accounts that don't have voice/voicemail.

So getting a new SIM could possibly resolve the issue.

I doubt it. For an unrelated reason I had to do a SIM swap on one of my trips to the USA, and the VM icon problem persisted through to the new SIM.
I think it's an issue in the way the accounts are provisioned. And T-Mobile hasn't managed to figure out a solution because I tried with them several times.
Come on guys simple solution.go to settings->apps->look for phone app and clear data/cache if this doesnt work do the same to the dialer app. This only clears that pesky voicemail notifacation.doesnt clear voicemail inbox

For me at least this won't work because I have neither a phone app or a dialer app. Nothing to clear, I personally think this is a provisioning issue that T-Mobile needs to deal with.

That's the only way I know how to remove the voicemail icon. Can your device use the wifi calling feature? Maybe then you can do what the quote says...

I have a T-Mobile Springboard running ICS as well. I went to settings->apps->Mobile Data... and hit Clear Data. It should immediately get rid of the stupid VM icon and I still have access to the mobile data.

Rkwhyte,
It is found in Settings->Applications->All apps->Mobile Data
from there select Clear data and BOOM the voicemail icon goes away. Don't touch mobile network configuration though.

The only problem I see though is if I turn the device completely on then turn it on again the VMail icon appears again. But that's okay. At least I know how to clear it when I'm working on my tablet so that I don't accidentally touch it again (which I've done many times).
I have the same issue with my tablet plan :crying:

Can't send MMS w/o enabling data

Hey, all!
Ever since i've picked up the amaze I've been having a mms bug. Can't send any pics w/o enabling the data first. When i hit send, it does display the 4g icon (i'm on stock ics, but it happened on gb as well), but in a minute or two the error message comes in. Once i enable the data and hit retry, it goes out smooth.
I haven't updated to a new sim-card yet (wi-fi calling wouldn't work on gb with the old one, but ics doesn't seem to mind), not sure if that's something to look into.
Let me know if anyone has any ideas
Thank you!

Mms is a data-reliant service, you need data enabled to send or receive. Thus...I would not classify this as a bug...

was it hard to just say you can click on the "mobile network" icon to bring up the settings tab vs the switch, as i had no idea it worked like that now? thank you.
Update: still no dice with the correct settings. 4g icons shows up and then i get the delivery error message. once the data is forced enabled from the drop-down, it's golden. very strange.
Without data enabled, you will not receive nor be able to send out mms. No way around it.

i understand that, but when sending mms, there should be a trigger (which i can tell it tries to do when i see the 4g icon appear right after hitting "send", except for nothing happens) for the mms data to be enabled just for the time it takes to send a particular mms, otherwise, what's the point to always have data enabled? none of the smartphones i've had, had this happen (sensation included).

Go into your apn settings and delete it or simply reset to default, it should auto download the correct settings, no idea how to make mms work WITHOUT data being enabled, I find that odd to be honest, but if it worked on GB, then I think you guys should stick to GB, just to save yourself some dollars.
It has been a while russianbear.. Anywho, what previous people have said is true, if you actually have data DISABLED, it won't come on for anything(how would the phone decide you want it on for MMS, but not something else like browser?). I used to roll around with data disabled a bit when I had gingerbread, so I can confirm it was the exact same way - you had to enable data to send mms - if it was off, nothing data related would work.
If you aren't worried so much about how FAST is sends MMS, you could always set it to 2g only, then your phone simply couldn't send much data at all.. or an awesome feature built into ICS - go to system settings then click usage - turn on set data usage limit, and set it REALLY low - this will keep ANYTHING that uses background data from sending/receiving, but any app you use in the FOREGROUND will work like normal - open browser or youtube and they would work like normal..
I'm sure there's another trick that would work, but I need more coffee.. good to see you again russianbear.

hey, man good to see you as well.
i'm sure i'm not tripping when saying you don't actually need to physically enable the data connection for it to send mms (none of my prior devices needed to) i've downloaded go sms pro and it works like the stock app should - i don't need to enable anything to send mms now (all options in that app are stock also). not a deal-braker to me, but still strange.

LOL, that may be why I didn't have issues.. I hate the stock messaging app, so I always used gosms. I'm not sure why you would use that ugly HTC goodness anyways, lol. Good to have you back bro
After much time trying to have MMS working without the data connection being active, I found that putting only "mms" in the APN Type setting does the trick (don't forget to save the settings before exiting the APN settings screen). The problem is that the setting is not applied without RESTARTING the device! So, change the setting to "mms", save, and restart.
You need to have the "Data active" option ticked, but there will (should) be no data connection for internet.
PS: I did this in another device, not the HTC Amaze. But it probably also works for you guys.

i've tried mms only, but still nada. it's ok though, i like go sms app anyway
Actually I send MMS and the message leaves but the person who receives the MMS gets an empty MMS message.
After much playing around with the device, I discovered that inserting a picture using gallery or the explorer that comes with the Amaze are all fail.
The only way I'm able to successfully send messages is inserting the image using ROOT Explorer. When I send MMS the person no longer gets empty MMS messages.
Now I'm using the CapcomCE ROM and it happened on SpeedROM 7.5
I downloaded the Gallery ICS from market and its the same story.
So basically if I insert pictures to send through MMS I have to use the Root Explorer or else the MMS messages are sent empty.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
