I cannot find a cheap cable in amazon.
So if you know a shop please tell us.

HDMI cables in general can be more expensive than you'd expect, but here's a reasonably priced adapter...

hit the thanks button

You can also try monoprice.com

to answer the initial question: why are they expensive?
because while they are often referred to as adapters, they are actually not. an adapter is something that changes the shape of plugs from one shape to another, like travel adapters for different outlets, the usb otg adapter or when you have a cinch to 3.5mm plug. but this box does way more than just convert the shape, it converts the signal. there is a chip in there that does a lot of work which is also why you need a power supply, it doesn't just charge the phone, it also powers the mhl chip.
and since it actually does something and is not just a piece of wire, it might well cost 20eur, but certainly 50 pounds is too much, i'd have to agree with you on that. still, i am waiting for a cheap german shop to offer them. way less trouble with payment and shipment.

Retractable 3.5mm Stereo Headphones

Anyone know of a good set? I've only found the siedio that cost like 55 bucks and it's not even the form factor I'm hoping for. There is still a lot of wire that isn't retracted.
Here are the two I've found. I can't even verify that they will work properly or that the connector is 3.5mm and not 2.5mm. Anyone have any experience with them?

Ok, looks like this is exactly what I'm looking for. I just missed it on Seidio's site because it only showed the earbuds in the picture. The other pic shows that there is only a little bit of cable that doesn't get retracted. I'll post if I find it cheaper somewhere else.

Transformer Charger on the ASUS eStore Price Increased

The charger went on sale yesterday for $29.99....went out of stock pretty quickly....
now ASUS is charging $39.99 for the charger...wth...
http://us.estore.asus.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=3613
I really hope some 3rd party chargers come out soon...i need one since i lost the power plug part of the charger and havent been able to charge it...
the TF is relatively cheep for what it is, but is Asus thinking of making bank with accessories?
$150 for dock, somewhat reasoable, but still a bit overpriced.
$40 for cheap (as in weak) portfolio case
$40 for cable?!?!?!
i don't like where this is going.

I disagree on this note.
the dock is pretty damn cheap for what it is. 150 dollars, (I paid 123 shipped through tigerdirect) and its a keyboard, USB ports, SD card slot, and the biggest point here, a HUGE BATTTERY. Think of how much something like this would cost if it were just a battery. People love to charge premium for batteries.
For the accessories, everyone knows tat they are gonna be expensive. Look at Apples accessories. They set the standard for expenive ass items.
That being said, the charger price is wicked expensive. 24.99 would be a fair price from a nmanufacturer.
One bad thing about the charger they are selling is that it doesn't look any different than the one that came with the Transformer to start with. And it's defiantly not worth 40$.

Aggravating detail: Charging cable is even out of stock! LOL
Ok I've been wanting to pinout the charge connector and measure the volts and amps on the charger. I'm going to start today. Stay tuned for a new thread.

$40 for a charger is kind of outragous when you stop to consider that one didn't ship with the dock.I'll be taking extra special care of my cable and charger till there are less expensive alternatives availble.

Some effort has already been done on this and it appears that the charger must be connected to the TF to actually supply voltage. AKA nothing when open circuit. Since charger is listed as 5V and 15V it is possible a sense pin in the connector lets the charger know what voltage to supply.

I don't believe anything other than the tablet/dock terminating pin on the cable is what triggers the charger to charge. Once I my 3.0 extension cable comes in I should be able to figure it out.

There's a couple of stores where I live in Canada, selling the dock for just under $130. I'm expecting Monoprice to eventually come out with a USB cable for the Transformer, which will cost under $10.

I posted a couple comments on ASUS' Facebook page. They deleted all of them claiming I "spammed" them by asking in two separate posts about the availability of chargers.
They magically "undeleted" my post and two different ASUS employees responded with boilerplate "we will check and have someone respond to you ". I never heard back from anyone. This was about two weeks ago.
So, does anyone have any updates? Why no third party chargers? I would think the market is huge. eBay is flooded with cases now, but no chargers.
now its $50 for the charger.. lol?
It is consider cheap. In Singapore, the charger cost S$50 and the cable cost S$20.
I paid for the charger as it is very fragile, used less than a month, it is broken.
I posted a couple items on FB. Let's see whether they get a response.

The fact that Apple gouges their customers is no defense for allowing Asus to do it. I, for one, do not expect accessories like this to be this expensive.

LOL. Since they are not selling it yet, I think any price is likely wrong.
I really like the estore, because they are a direct parts supplier for little guys. We do not have to be resellers nor repair shops.
In retail USA shops and on eBay we can buy AC Adapters now. I am starting to see these chargers distributed in *many* more places as the accessory line catches up.
In my opinion, I cut the estore slack because of the *service* it provides across a broad ASUS line.

I have seen videos on youtube of it working from that website. But $30 can be better spent IMHO. I keep praying fro monoprice to sell one for $5.

That is pretty unlikely since the cable was ordered custom by Steve (electroniccrap.com). And considering it is less than half the price of the docking station (which is the ONLY other way to get the output) it is not a bad deal.

Not sure there is anything made in china that is exclusive to any one any more.
The cable is available for as low as $20 (pack of 50) and $34 (single purchases) free shipped from China.
I also need to correct you on the math, $30+ shipping @electroniccrap is not less than half the price of the docking station, the fact is the total cost would be very comparable (if not more for international shipments) to the discounted rate for docking station $43.69 shipped world wide (merimobiles with "welcome" discount code)
cool, video does work. Hopefully someone in China posts this up on ebay for alot cheaper. The price for a single cable is still a bit expensive.
This is definitely a unique cable because i can't find another similar cable anywhere.

MHL to HDMI Adapter differences?

So I'm most likely buying the Otterbox Commuter case from HTCPedia because its a few bucks cheaper than Amazon ($30 compared to $35, also amazon after taxes would be even more expensive).
Though, all orders over $50 get free shipping on HTCpedia. So I'm wondering if I should splurge on an MHL>HDMI adapter, but if so, which?
http://shop.htcpedia.com/htc-mhl-adapter.html - this seems to be the official HTC version for $30
http://shop.htcpedia.com/mhl-to-hdmi-adapter.html - not sure if it's 3rd party, or if it works any differently than the HTC version. $20
Are these adapters different quality as other products are too, or is there a standard 5V - 1A output? What do you guys have/recommend.
Thank you!
-Mark
I already bought a 5 dollar one from amazon. Even if it breaks, I could still buy 2 more and have them be cheaper than the official one. I'm not recommending people to buy or to not buy the htc branded adapter. I'm just comparing this to all name brand stuff that doesn't offer anything more than the cheaper product.

Unless you're going to be playing movies/videos while away from your phone without needing to be able to remote control it, MHL sucks. I would recommend just not getting it.

Pogo charger now available on ebay

So. Who's getting one? Can't tell from the description if it's just a usb cable with a Pogo end or if it includes a different charger. Not sure how it would charge faster simply by switching to a different connector.
Just do it a search for the nexus 10 Pogo on ebay. Cost is $20 with $6 shipping direct from our Korean friends. Available starting December 28th.
http://shop.mobileweb.ebay.com/sear...sort=BestMatch&mfs=GOCLK&acimp=0&isNewKw=true
Update... Reread description and charger is not included. This is only for the cable but they claim 25% faster charging with this cable. Still one expensive cable on par with what the fruit company would charge for their oem cables.
Just to tell you... this has already been posted in the N10 Accessories subforum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045369
It sucks that we have to get it from an aftermarket company, instead of Samsung or Google! They added the pogo to the tablet but didn't make a cable, that's dumb of them because people would buy right away if they would've made it available as an extra accessory.

Apple probably would have sued and that would get the entire N10 in hot waters. Probably a good move IMHO although it sucks for us N10 owners.
Speaking of which, the pogo cable's gone from ebay. Wonder if they sold out or if something else is up. Maybe they got the letter from Mr. Fruit.
Bad news eBay pulled the listing for the charger.

The abstract for Apple's magnetic connector patent reads:
An electrical plug and receptacle relying on magnetic force to maintain contact are disclosed. The plug and receptacle can be used as part of a power adapter for connecting an electronic device, such as a laptop computer, to a power supply. The plug includes electrical contacts, which are preferably biased toward corresponding contacts on the receptacle. The plug and receptacle each have a magnetic element. The magnetic element on one or both of the plug and receptacle can be a magnet, which is preferably a permanent rare earth magnet although electromagnets may also be used. The magnetic element on the plug or receptacle that does not include a magnet is composed of ferromagnetic material. When the plug and receptacle are brought into proximity, the magnetic attraction between the magnet and its complement, whether another magnet or a ferromagnetic material, maintains the contacts in an electrically conductive relationship.

Interesting. I know it's not a patent that they license out. The fact that they haven't sued for it, though, probably means that this patent is a bit more specific to power while POGO cables allow for some manner of data transfer, too (in regards to docks). There are instrument cables that have magnetic connectors, too.
I'm assuming, of course. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The plantronics legend has a magnetic connector as well and they still selling them so I guess anyone can make them
Looks like it. I didn't read the entire patent but I would assume it's not that broad.

Why is that bad news? It was probably a fake.
TomTom has used a magnetic connector very much like the POGO plug on the 2535m and 1000 series GPS units over the past couple of years. Almost identical in concept...just a different number of pins. Supplies power and supports other functions as well. This is on millions of units currently in use worldwide.
