[Q] Where is the default ringtone / notification sound? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The default sound is nowhere to be found. I have looked in System/Media and it is not there. The tone I am talking about is when no tone is selected in the selection area. The AT&T tone is selected by default for the ringtones, but nothing is selected for the notification tone. The notification still has a default sound and that's the one I am trying to find. Any help would be great.

I am little confused on what your asking which version of Android and firmware your running. Can you see the ring tone where you go to change it in settings? And if your looking for where in system the file it self is what are you using to go though your files with. Personally I like root explorer but you have to have root I will look to see where tones are.
AT&T ATRIX - VERSION 2.3.4 ROOTED BL UNLOCKED

I am on a rooted Motorola Atrix with Gingerblur ROM installed (2.2.2). The ringtone I am interested in was on the stock Atrix as well. This tone can be found by going to Messaging, Menu->Settings->Notification settings->Select ringtone->Default ringtone. But this ringtone is not where I would expect. My goal is to make this Default ringtone my Phone ringtone instead of my Messaging Notification ringtone. I looked with Astro in /system/media/audio/notifications... actually, I looked in all the folders in audio (alarms, notifications, ringtones, ui) and this tone is not there. Is there somewhere else to look with Astro? Thanks for the help!

Different ring tones for different phone numbers.

I have the HTC Wallaby or TMOBILE phone edition. I upgraded the rom to XDA Developers rom and wow...what a difference.
Has anybody had any problems with the ring tones? I understand how the thing works pretty much but for some reason I can't get the ring tones to change for different callers. I tried by catagory and by right clicking on the name from within the phone number organiser and selecting the change ringtone function but it defaults tothe ringtone selected in the sounds control panel for all callers. Is there a patch or did I miss something. Anybody else run into this problem

[Q] nonsensikal v10.1 sound mystery

Been running 10.1 for about a week now and am loving it. Unfortunately, my first beef with this ROM just popped up and I'm hoping someone out there can help. When selecting a tone for a new alarm (or just setting a ring tone for that matter), I'm prompted to select from the stock system sounds. I know when I first flashed to this ROM I could select to use a set of sounds as my default and am fairly certain I chose the extended bank of sounds. Why limit yourself, right? At any rate, I went to manage applications and can't reset defaults because the button is greyed out and unselectable. The non-standard set of sounds is still in there as evidence of both my alarms going off with the sound I had been looking for and, in addition, I can still see all this "missing" tones when I open up Astro File Manager and go to /mnt/sdcard/system/media/audio. At this point, there are folders for alarms, notifications, ringtones & ui, ALL of which contain sound files...the ones I'm in search of. How can I reset this? Did a nandroid backup when sounds were still accessible and when I reflashed to the backup I was still missing the option to select these sounds. What gives? Help!!

Won't ring after ED01

My girlfriend just got the ED01 update and now her phone won't ring or notify. The phone will still ring for those contacts that she has individual ringtones set for, but that's all. Any ideas? I told her to set ringtones for the important contacts for now.
Have you tried to reset the default ringtones?
Yeah, when you click on Voice call ringtone, settings FC's. Although I hadn't tried it for the Notification ringtone until just now and it worked. The ringtone was set to silent. So halfway there!

[Q] Unable to change default sound

Is there a way to change the default sound to something other then the pre-loaded HTC sounds? I was able to change the phone ringtone to a song on my sd card. When going to settings, phone ringtone there is a new ringtone button which let me choose whatever I want but when I go to the default sounds I do not have that option. The only option I get is, get more, which takes me to the HTC hub. I tried ringdroid and made a ringtone but it don't show up. I also installed tone picker but it doesn't show up either. Another strange thing is, I am using handcent and have a mp3 selected within handcent but when I get a text it uses the default notification instead. Anyone else having this problem?
I had similar issues. I used HTC Hub to download a new ringtone package, and found out that it just over writes everything I may have had selected.
I've had to go in and redo my ringtone and message notifications a few times, mostly after I hook it up and enable SD storage on the computer.
If I have someone call or send a text message while its hooked up as storage, it changes EVERYTHING back on mine to the stock sound settings.
Ok what i did with mine was use astro file manager to take whatever mp3s i wanted for notifications and copied and pasted them into my notifications folder which will be located in your media folder, open astro click sd card then click media then audio then notifications and paste whatever you want to hear for notifications sounds in there then when you go to your list they should show up and work like a charm.
I think I did that with a file manager and it still didn't show under Notification sounds. You need to hit set as once the desired file is highlighted and set it as a notification that way.
Use Zedge. Its a free app and you can select it as default instead of using system. Works wonders!
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Menu --> Personalize --> Notification Sound
This is where you can change the default notification sound as well as the sound for the email app, the messaging app, and the calendar.
This took me awhile to figure out. A new feature of Sense 3.0. Possibly introduced in Sense 2.1. Not sure. But different than the EVO either way...

[Q] stupidest question ever! sorry

how to set mp3 or ogg files as text message notification?
my mob is rooted on latest stock fw, i did put my ogg file in system/media with root explorer with permisions set correct but stock tones only work after selecting my new tone. new one will not play?
any apps to bypass this..
basicly i have a r2d2 soundboard app from the market that lets me select ringtone/notifications. battery low tone works and sounds wiked buts texts dont. so i tried to manualy move the .ogg to the system notifications folder and set permisions, but like i said.. it wont play. stock tone replaces it.
i want R2D2 becuase it fits with my droid. nuff said
How about Settings > sound > Notification ringtone? I'm using CM7 so im not sure if that applies for u, havent used stock rom for ages.
I use GO sms so it comes with a sound choser, I can select any of my sound files that are available in the phone/sd card using it.
P.S. There are no stupid questions, only stupid people. xD (quote from southpark)
yes i have Settings > sound > Notification ringtone. but after selecting R2D2, it will will be a stock tone when a text comes thru. i didnt want any apps as i thought i could do it with root explorer.
No need for any app buddy.
make folder in your sd card like media/audio
And for custom notifications, make a folder inside audio called notifications and for ringtones, make one called ringtones.
so it will look like media/audio/ringtones or notifications.
Hope that helps..!!
Yup, as side_effect said. But for some reason notifications are played quieter than tones, so if you have a program like Audacity on your desktop you should increase the volume of the track before you put it on your SD Card.
