[Q]Voltage Control app -free version - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I havnt used this app for a while, but just started again...it's been updated several times since I last used it.
Can someone who is familiar with the newer version tell me why everytime I start the app I get a toast notification that says "warning: assuming stock voltages"? This happens even after uninstalling/reinstalling and unapplying all tweaks. What does this message mean? Are my settings taking effect?
Thanks ahead......PS running Bali-X (voltage app compatible)

that means its using stock voltages .....not voltages you customized

is that a guess, or are you 100% positive?
only reason i ask that is because just an hour ago i decided to try a little experiment. i used the newer version to set -50 across the board. then i uninstalled the newer version and reverted back to a previous version. once i installed the previous version, it showed that my voltages were still set at -50 across, and it did not give me any "assuming stock voltages" message. this shows that my tweaks are being applied. another thing that gives it away is that if i undervolt too far (with any version), my phone locks up. so the tweaks are definitely taking effect.
keep in mind, the app itself is not control the voltages, its just assisting you in modifying a file that controls the voltages. once you modify the file using the app, you can uninstall the app and never use it again, but your tweaks will always be there until the next time you modify the file.
with all that said, i still dont understand the message the new one is giving me haha

im 99.99% positive .ok to prove that im right try doing this .go to the older app and put -50 then open the newest app and it wont say that message .and of course its going to lock up cause your forcing it to run when it really cant so it just dosent do anything

ok, so i set everything at -0 and uninstalled for a fresh start. i restored the older version and used that to set -50 across. then i uninstalled that, and installed the new version. -50 is still there and it is still giving me that message.
also, in the newer version, its saying that 1200mhz isnt detected. Bali-X is a 1.2ghz kernel. The older version and SetCPU both recognize the 1.2ghz capability.

I'd use the version that came with the kernel. The newest is designed to cater a bit more towards CM7 and GB crowd.
But if your old one is not working, ALWAYS make sure you throughly delete anything it may have left before using the new one. Specifically, go and delete the settings file.

im not sure if a version was actually flashed with the kernel. either way, im sticking with the old one, because thats the one that seems to function properly.

Help me track down my Random Lockups :'(

I cannot find out whats going on with my phone. Ive tried 3 different roms, kernals, radios and settings and I cannot find whats going on with the phone. It locks up for the weirdest reasons at the weirdest time. I cant track down whats causing it, and it is completely random.
Heres a log cat Ive got from BAMF 3.0 RC1 stock kernal MR2
http://www.mediafire.com/?uxljp5prhzff8f7
and another
http://www.mediafire.com/?b9oc6x78ujk7axu
Please help... any ideas will help me out
BTW ive also tried all different kernal speeds and governers
Anytime i connect to usb for logcat it locks right away, and when I pull a logcat on the phone through a terminal emulator i get a the normal thread, but then one always pops up...
E/IPCThreadState (random numbers) failed to find cpu subsys
... any ideas?
http://pastebin.com/CLvMv5HC
^ During this logcat
First boot, fresh install of the new BAMF build 3.0 RC1. Phone is still running and responsive at this point. Ill try and get another when it locks

Im running the kernals supplied and without editing them it will still do it
Can you please re-up your logcat dumps and put them on something a bit more friendly like pastebin.com?
Also, what exactly are you doing when you dumped these logcats (both in the foreground and background), just to get an idea of what was going on your phone at the time.
Were these lockups happening on froyo as well?

as far as what i was doing..... nothing most of the time lol. most of the time it would lock on connecting to a PC, other times it wont wake up, then some of the times it will lock in the middle of scrolling through tapatalk or browser. its completely random and i can track it down
See if you can find out what process that is (2660) or whatever happens to be in the current error message. Process ID will probably change over time, but it's linked to some process on the phone.
You can find out about the current processes by typing:
Code:
ps
in the terminal emulator
EDIT: Just randrom things that might be causing problems, but cant say for sure:
The error you're getting I think happens when a process is in sync with another end and something more or less hangs up on it or goes out of sync so it can no longer find it. Pretty sure it's related to the davlik vm. If so, try going into recovery and clearing your normal cache and your dalvik vm cache under advanced. If that doesn't work...see below:
1) did you restore any data from previous roms/builds for this? Either previous GB ones or from froyo?
2) since it happens when connecting to the pc, it could be the htc hub crap that's causing the problem. If so, i would try disabling or removing the app, it's not that needed.
3) Are you using setcpu? It might be interfering with things.
Did you wipe data and cache prior to flashing? I've found a lot of my issues are corrected by wiping app data with Titanium b/u.
Well guys thanks for all the assistance. Ive tracked it down to being the speedtweak.sh script. Something just never quite worked right and whenever i would set the speed, governer or attempt a tweek it would then start the errors.
On the new 3.0 Build with the toolkit i dont need to manually go into the script and it seems to work fine. it may have been user error, or something just didnt jive with the phone...
although i still get the same cpu subsys error, but no locks so far

Performance tweaks for XRON/CM7/CM9

Here are a few tweaks to get XRON/CM7/CM9 running a bit smoother
Make sure to create a Nandroid before applying these tweaks, just in case something goes wrong
Smoother Scrolling - for XRON2.9 Deodexed/CM9 (unless you apply the mod yourself).
Files are attached, make sure to rename the file to framework.jar.
The instructions to replace the framework.jar are included in the original post under D. Installing steps.
Or you can use ADB:
Code:
adb push c:\path-to-framework\framework.jar /system/framework
adb shell chmod 0644 /system/framework/framework.jar
This mod really helps smooth out menu scrolling, most noticeable while browsing long lists like in Titanium Backup or Root Explorer, I've noticed a speed boost under Youtube as well (CM9). This made a bigger difference on XRON, but still makes a notable difference under CM9.
Reduce Lag - For XRON/CM7/CM9a0.5
Up threshold tweak, under advanced settings with CPU Master/SetCPU - 30-40% should provide you with a lag-free experience.
Use SetCPU instead of CPU Master for CM9a0.5 with BrickedKernel.
This tweak will get rid of most of the jumpiness in heavy applications, like Cordy or Opera Mobile. I ran the TP before and after side-by-side with the iPad 2 and it went from about 30-40% the speed of the iPad 2 to about 80-90% (Opera Mobile VS Safari). A big improvement. The downside to this tweak is you will experience worse battery life.
Reduce Lag - For older versions of XRON (before 2.8) and CM7
In the build.prop make these changes:
1. Change debug.composition.type=c2d to debug.composition.type=gpu
2. Add debug.sf.hw=1 (or change to match if it already there)
This build.prop change will help speed up the UI dramatically if you are still running CM7 3.5 or an older version of XRON.
Improve Auto-Rotation Speed - CM9a0.5
Included in the cm9a0.5-framework.jar are modifications that should help speed up auto-rotation as explained here and here.
These tweaks made a dramatic difference on my TP. Good luck!
These will probably speed up MIUI too, but you'll have to do the framework.jar mod yourself. If you do, feel free to share the jar and I'll add it to the post.
Off-topic, but I booted up webOS for the first time in months today to update it. Damn, that thing is slow.
Interesting, I'll try out #1 and #2. Thanks for putting it into a separate thread since I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise.

WebOS, running an overclocked kernel at close to 1.8GHz on both cores, is extremely smooth. The multitasking and saving of current app states is excellent. Too bad there's not much more than the browser, email, and Angry Birds and a few Gameloft games to put it to use.
Going to try out these tweaks, thanks!

I really like WebOS as well, HP/Palm really hit the nail on the head concerning the user experience and multitasking. With all the Preware tweaks and the device overclocked it is quite fast.
But the web experience is still too sluggish for my taste, especially when compared to Android running Opera Mobile with the tweaks above or an iPad 2.. And of course there is a major lack of applications for WebOS.
Thanks for posting. I'm a TP newb running CM7 3.5. It sounds like 2 and 3 are applicable to CM7. I'm going to give 3 a try.
Are there any other general tips for CM7 or the Touchpad in general?

The first one will work on CM7 as well, but you'll have to mod the framework.jar yourself as explained in this post.
You could also try my framework.jar, but it may break your install (if you try it make sure to create a nandroid first).
Yeah, it broke my wifi even though I'm on Xron. I'll just have to do it manually later

Which version? It should have no problems on 2.9 deodexed, I've done it multiple times.
Make sure you set the permissions/owner the same as the old file.
It was 2.9
However, I suspect the problem might have been something else as restoring the nandroid didn't fix it and I had to go back to an even older nandroid.

The main problem with webOS is it lacks text reflow. The iOS and WP7 also lack it. I don't know why Android is the only OS that gets this right. I actually wish I had text reflow on my desktop/laptop browsers, and occasionally boot into a x86 Android virtual machine just for specific sites whose fonts don't play well with Chrome (since Google removed font size increases years ago and never replaced it).
I also don't understand why no one complains about the lack of text reflow in other OS's. Maybe I'm just blind or something.
BTW (a little more on topic), do these tweaks work with ICS?

I'm not sure. The framework.jar mod might, but I have not tried it yet. The up threshold tweak would probably help, but I haven't figured out how to change that yet. The build.prop tweak did not seem to change anything for me.
Updated OP with info/tweaks for CM9.
Are we supposed to rename CM9-framework.jar to framework.jar in order to replace the framework.jar that's already present in /system/framework?

Correct.
Create a nandroid beforehand just in case. Also, make sure that you set the permissions/owner the same as the original file.
If you are running a different variation I can't guarantee it will work, it has only been tested with CM9A0 and CM9A0.5.
For some bizarre reason the only thing that shows up under the "Advanced" Tab is "sampling rate". I've tried both CPU Master and SetCPU, and all I can see is sampling rate. Nothing else shows up.

Okay, finally got it to work. I had been confused regarding the presence of the "brickedkernel" and "cyanogen mod" option in the boot up list. When I went to brickedkernel wi-fi didn't work, but in the CMMod option it did. I finally realized that when I had flashed back to Alpha 0, then back to .5 (to correct a boot loop issue), the Bricked Wi-Fi modules must have been replaced. So I reflashed the Bricked kernel and Wi-Fi worked. Finally went to SetCPU and surprise! Threshold was already at 90% lol. Opera is still jumpy though so I give up. I mean it's "smoother", but not as smooth as on my Charge.
My "Scaling" is set to "ondemand" (with max freq. of 1.56 GHz), Sampling rate set to 50,000, and "Ignore Nice Load" and "Powersave Bias" are both set to 0. I'll try to set Sampling Rate to 10000 and see what happens.
Edit: Nope, no change. Ah well...

Yeah, I have it at 30%/50000/1.5ghz and it is quite smooth, smoother than the stock browser at least.. But not quite as smooth as my Epic.
I'm guessing that once HW Acceleration is working 100% it'll speed things up a bit more.
I'm on cm9 a.05 booted to Bricked and still don't see anything else except sampling under setcpu | advanced

ICS Collective BASE4

Okay so I took the plunge and installed my first ROM (ICS Collective Base4) among other things with my SGH-I717M (Bell). Everything went very well and here are the issues that despite reading over 500 pages in threads related to these issues, I have not been able to solve them (workarounds, sure). I'm hoping that others can confirm these glitches and whether or not they have been able to remedy them:
-Upon boot, "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped". Annoying, but doesn't seem to affect anything. No workaround or solution.
-Baseband "unknown". Tried ODIN flash install AND coming from completely stock phone via CWM flash, neither has remedied this problem. Doesn't seem to affect anything so don't really care.
-Stock calendar application missing - really don't like some of the other calendars, but I can't seem to find the APK file in any other ICS ROM's out there, so I gave up on this. So workaround, no solution.
-Time zone wrong. Workaround is to deselect automatic network management and select the correct timezone. Reverts back to incorrect upon rebooting so apparently only a workaround and no solution.
-Upon booting setCPU max/min speeds are incorrect and you have to open the application for it to correct the speeds. Perhaps it's just the widget that's broken, but for now it's a workaround and I can't seem to figure out a solution. Quandrant benchmarks seem to indicate that if I don't do this, the performance is affected as if the speeds are 1242max/384min and not 1512max/384min.
-Phone freezes on "Power Off", have to hold power button - camera flash goes off and then restarts. Workaround seems to be to use terminal emulator or other applications to reboot, etc. Don't know if there's a solution to this.
-Wallpaper incorrectly zooms - workaround: market applications. No solution that I can find yet.
-Unrelated to the ROM, but V6 Supercharger - I can only get it to report 50% supercharged, even after modifying my services.jar file and following all "step 8" instructions (that was an undertaking!!!). Don't know what's up there, but maybe some of you super-techs have figured it out.
-Only 624MB of RAM available instead of 700MB+ with GB. Haven't heard anything about why this is, so no solution or workaround.
-Doesn't seem to be an ICS keyboard available? I think this can just be installed from the market but I haven't tried it so not sure.
I'm sure there's other things like with Swype, tethering, etc.. etc... that are not working but this is just what I've noticed within the last 8 hours of flashing and trying to set-up and configure. Any comments or helpful suggestions for a n00b like me?
Thank you for any and all feedback. Thank you to all the developers working hard on this fresh release to bring us a solid ROM!

Remember, this is a leaked firmware, these bugs are within that leak itself and a few of these issues have been addressed (unknown baseband, etc..) And will be fixed when we release the actual full ROM. this is just the base we shared in the mean time. A few are still present likesome settings not sticking through boot, and the power menu hanging.
Ithink is ur phone acting weird. Only the setcpu speeds not sticking and issue about wallpaper which can easily be fixed by using quicpics are the two issues my phone had. Just dnt use any cpu controller i noticed phone goes to sleep when no cpu controller while when there is cpu controller screen off speed sticks to 384 or 192

Absolutely. And considering what I've read about previously leaked versions of Android over the years, this one performs like a champ. Can't wait to see what comes out next, but I figured from what I've read this one works well enough to go the distance and install. Thanks again collective!

Yeah, just thought I would put my experience out there if it helps anyone or if someone could help me lol. It's very likely some of these are isolated problems, but most of them are problems with the leaked version. I uninstalled setCPU because I think you're right, something likes to nom nom the battery when the screen is off.
Oh and here's something odd which I don't know if anyone else has experienced with ICS or GB, but Terminal Emulator doesn't allow me to type anything unless I capitalize each individual letter. Which of course is useless because it can't accept commands in caps. When I press any key in lowercase it's like I haven't done anything. I had to switch to the pen mode where I scribe each letter and then it puts lowercase letters in for me. Anyone know what's up with this?
This is probably not the best Rom to run for your first flash. I would try one of the official releases in the development thread, unless you are an official tester for The Collective...
Can't wait till they release an official ROM ...

I had that issue in GB... In ICS it seems to be intermittent- sometimes it just works others it doesn't...
And regarding the baseband, not sure about the Collective rom, but DAGr8's ICS rom displays the modem correctly on my Bell Note.
I also had the timezone issue- strangely enough when I disabled network time and timezone, I also stopped get random slowdowns and ANRs.

We've got the baseband unknown issue fixed in the full ROM. We just haven't released it. Still working on a couple things before we're comfortable sharing.
Hi, here are my thoughts;
1. Flash a CWM ICS modem(fixed it for me). If you cant find a modem use Dagr8's inital version of the ICS leak, it will successfully flash the modem(unlike the initial collective version(post 501 thread). The main point is to ensure you have the correct baseband(should not say unknown).
2. For now, dont supercharge the ICS leak until you have a stable running OS.
3. After fixing the baseband unknown issue(#1), reflash the collective post 501 ICS rom. It is stable, and the cleanup of the bloat was started already.
4. After installing #3, factory reset your phone.
At this point you should have a bloated, but error free ICS on your computer. Make a CWM backup, install titanium backup, and rip out the junk APK's(widgets, samsung/att garbage). Doing this will provide longer battery life and better performance.
No other wipe scripts are needed.
Factory reset BEFORE flash. The cwm script in the zip itself formats /system and /cache before it writes anything.
And the baseband unknown thing isn't a big deal. Its not that you don't have a modem at all, everything still works you get mobile data, its just the os doesn't properly report it.
if you like what you got, i say sit tight, we're working on the full ROM. You won't be disappointed

Would be cool if you guys could make a minimalistic style rom without all the makeup and cosmetics and focused on performance
We think its cooler to do BOTH
Cause the guys at Samsung must have left their seeing eye dogs at home when it came time to theme
most of us don't usually do minimalistic... once a stable rom gets out you can expect a variety of themes. Sit tight.

How to Control CPU / Customized stock rom & OTA questions :)

Hi guys! I have 2 topics and some questions about it, so here we go!
I am on stock firmware (XXBLFB), unbranded and rooted with CF-root, stock kernel as well.
1. How to control the CPU on the SGSIII?
Wake up from sleep is pretty long compared to other phones, usually takes 1-2secs. I guess thats because of the slow scaling of the CPU?
Plus, i've run CPU spy for a few days to see what clocks are used most and found out that the phone often uses 800mhz when its awake. In 2nd place is 500mhz, and only 3rd place is 1400mhz. I guess that results in the lags i sometimes experience when swiping the homescreens. Sometimes its 100% smooth (1,4ghz) but when i swipe really fast or after exiting an app it lags around (guess thats when the cpu is only on 800mhz). Note that I have energy saving turned off!
So what i'm looking for is a Kernel and an app or script that controls the governor (also what governor would solve my issues, on my DHD i usually used ondemand or smartass, are they available on the SGSIII?) and clockspeed (i wanna try how the phone performs with 1.2ghz).
I heard Siyah kernel does this pretty well?
2. So my 2nd question is, how will the phone behave when an OTA comes around and i have it rooted/modified? I changed some sound files, and lets asume kernel/cpu settings.
-Would i be able to still get OTAs?
-Would i run into any problems or will the modified files just be overwritten with the new ones?
-Would i still be able to reroot my phone after upgrading or should i use OTA root keeper?
Thx in advance and keep on rocking

1. Yup, you can try siyah for both cpu amd gpu control
2. You probably might not get ota if you are running custom roms or kernel unless the rom supports it..you mostly will have to update manually via odin.. modified files will be overwritten.. amd yes you can reroot your phone using cf root again..or you can flash the new stock firmware via mobile odin which allows you to keep root even after flashing by keeping everoot option ticked

Thx for your answer
so as long as i stay on stock rom/kernel i should be fine for OTAs, no matter what i modify in the stock rom? I mean stuff like sound files or Framework mods or CRT animations?
No OTA if custom /rooted .
Why use official updates join XDA and flash stock before OTA arrives .
jje
yeah i know but i'm looking for something that keeps my data/settings. I'm not in the mood for setting everything up again after flashing a rom atm

You will have to root your phone for crt and mods like that.. so your ota updates wont be successfully updated to your phone.. tho it mite let you know if an update is there.. but wont be successfull...

I had backed up my stock kernel using trickster mod, then flashed franco.kernel r-4. I confirmed everything on my phone was working properly, then paid for the donate version of the app so I could restore my stock kernel back to my nexus 10 4.2.1. All was well until I started using my device,
- OTG support was intermittent and my applications were running abnormally slow.
- Most of the folders that had write privileges could not be written to anymore when I tried making a new TWRP backup and ended up corrupting some of my existing application backups (combination of program not being able to write properly and OTG fading in and out).
I had to go into TWRP and restore from a nandroid after the fact and run Titanium to restore all my apps - OTG and worked fine after that. Any ideas, or a possible fix? I'd like to get the most out of the restore kernel function of the app.

Hi there,
The code to do the backup/restore couldn't possibility do that (e.g. it does not contain anything to change permissions). As I don't have the device, previous tests were done by my testers and I had positive results, so I will ask them to check again. For now, can you provide more information:
- ROM: I guess stocks?
- busybox: which app did you use to install it? busybox version?
- If possible do a new nandroid backup and do two bug report (Trickster MOD menu): once before you do a new backup and another when you restore kernel so I can check if there's anything goes wrong. Also send me the list of contents in /sdcard/kernel_backups

Thanks for the quick response! I can do that later today. Yes, Rom is stock Jellybean rooted 4.2.1, busybox was installed using the stericson tool from the play store. Ill pm you later with extra info.
heya, loving the app. got one question if anyone can answer. does anyone have a list of kernels that support s2w? I'm using kmanta but it doesn't show CPU temp.
also on a side not, where would the options show up if its able?
edit: stock kernel from paranoid android for n10 and franco kernel doesnt show temperature either
Big eyes, I'm running trickster for the first time on the gnex and have a question. If I change the max freq from 1700 to 1600 and hit save. Then exit and go back in, its back to 1700. I then tried the freq lock option and that seems to work and it stays at 1600.
What's odd, is on the main screen (device status, core 0/1) it only goes to 1000mhz max. In realtime I mean....if I put my finger on the screen and move around it gets to 1000 but nothing higher. I'm wondering maybe if locking it down by checking that option basically locked it down to 1000 rather than 1600?
Confused..... Any thoughts? Thanks, great app

Kernel/ROM issue. The app always reads frequency settings from the kernel itself so if it's at something then it's there, if a setting doesn't stick then something else changes it, and if the frequency does not go to the max that is because the set governor and its correspondent tunables, as in load is not high enough for the governor to set it to max.

Fair enough...I appreciate the quick response. It's Franco's latest R8, so I'm guessing its his kernel. Dam.... good to know. Maybe time to go back to stock kernel on Sentinel ROM...wonder if I can change the freq's in that kernel

You might wanna read our FAQ as it contains some information of what inside a JB device that might change the set frequencies. This should be patched in the kernel or worked around in the ramdisk. I coded for the N10 without a device so it's hard for me to say more. As for the frequency doesn't go to max, it's likely because of the load as I told you. Touching the screen is a relatively light load so it might not go to max frequency at all. That's normal.
Sounds good...last question, how do u reset the CPU spy like stats? Sorry if this is already covered in the faq

You can't change the max clock freg because you need a kernel with a patched PowerHAL, which Franco doesn't have.
It only goes to 1000mhz because this is how the interactive governor is tuned. If you put it under increased load it will eventually increase. If you go into the governor parameters on trickster for interactive you will see "hispeed_freq" will most likely be set to 1000000 (1GHZ), which means the CPU will jump to this immediately. You can play around with these parameters for battery/performance but Franco and a few testers tune them significantly, although his N10 kernel is very young compared to his N4 and N7 kernels where the settings have been tuned to a tee, and I think the N10 settings might have just been copied over as a reliable base.
