Hi everybody,
Since my first Android phone I liked the looks of the stock GenieWidget from Google. But the black background I didn't like. So I made a version with no background. I also changed the stock icon with a better one. For everybody who also likes the widget (app) can download it here. I've uploaded the stock one (with modified icon) and the one with the transparant background (also with modified icon).
How to install:
1. Make sure your phone is in "USB Debugging" mode and connect it to your PC.
2. Download the version you want and extract the files.
3. The file GenieWidget_BG.rar is the stock one and the file GenieWidget_TS.rar is the modified one.
3. Click on the file called "geniewidget.bat" and it will install the file.
4. You're done
If you want to install it manually copy the file GenieWidget.apk to /system/app with your file manager.
I tried to find the newest version (1.3.04), if you have a newer version of this app please share it with me and I will update mine!
You now may hit the "thanks" button!

For those like me who need corporate sync and like the blur universal inbox you can install just that portion of the moto bloatware instead of all of it.
** EDIT ** I'm adding a couple more applications now. Please, others jump in to do other applications because I'm out of time working on my Atrix for this week!
** WARNING ** I'm not an android dev and this process has only been tested on my phone. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
There are 3 files attached.
messaging.zip - restores original blur messagine apps, including corporate sync, txt messaging with balloon conversation mode, and the universal inbox. It does not have the messaging widget.
taskman.zip - if you liked moto's Task Manager app, this will restore it for you so you can kill tasks and uninstall like before GB.
gallery.zip - restores the moto Medial Gallery application. Note the GB version of Gallery will still exist and both will work.
Quick instructions:
* You will need CWM Recovery for this
* Follow CWM instructions exactly - especially the part about plugging into the AC adapter or it won't work!
**NOTE** this will also install the original blur txt messaging interface with the conversation balloon mode. Its all one application so no way around it that I know of.
1) copy one of the zip files (attached) to your sdcard root directory
2) run CWM according to instructions in its thread
3) after reboot into CWM select "Install zip from SDCARD"
4) select "Choose zip from internal sdcard"
5) scroll down to the zip file name (ex: messaging.zip)
6) select the file (power button) and run the update
7) go back to main menu and select "Reboot system now"
A few steps but doesn't take long. I just pulled these out of the gingerblur-bloatware.zip and figured out what file structure you have to leave in place for it to function.
Hope this will save people some time.

I think there's a bloatware restorer on the greyblur site. Try that.
Will that install it all back tho or will i be able to pic
well ill look at it and see if it can do only one thing
thanks i forgot about that
Alright so i found them in the files there how do i delete the new one and get this old one back on there? im so confused help!
Still have not figured it out some one help?
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/d...-reinstall-deleted-system-apps-bloatware.html
That thread helped me how 2 install the files but i cant install them it tells me
Application not installed any clue how 2 fix this and remove the old one some thing? any one?
You need to download the messaging bloatware zip, reboot into recoverymode and use CWM to install that zip file... It's the same process as installing grey/gingerblur.
Well if i new where the messaging bloatware zip was i would try 2 get that
i know they have the full one with everything but is there one with only the messaging part? or some thing like that?
Well i tryed 2 just install the messager part and i soft bricked my phone just fixed that but still dont have the old messaging system
Go to the android development section and find the gingerblur thread (it shouldn't be difficult). Then go to the gingerblur website given in the thread and download the bloatware.zip. you will also need tenfars cwm recovery which is in the development section also. Then just flash the zip file using the cwm recovery guide. Make sure your phone is plugged into a wall outlet charger when you do this (not a computer USB port) or it won't work.

Summary:
-rename mms.apk to mms.apk.bak
-rename conversations.apk.bak back to converstaions.apk

First, download APK manager (search xda or google) and learn how it works. It's really straightforward, just mess around with it by dropping some apk's into the "place apk here for modding" folder and use the options to see what they do.
After that, find an AOSP rom and gapps, and put all of the apk's that you want the icon from into the modding folder, and extract each one. Now go to the projects folder, where you will find a subfolder for each app. In each app's subfolder, find the images folder, locate the app's icon.
Next do the same thing with the Sense version apps, locate the icon in the images folder. Take note of the name. Then go back to the AOSP icon and change the name of the file (if needed) to the same name as the Sense version icon. Last copy/replace the AOSP icon over the Sense icon, rezip the apk (using apk manager), push it to the /system/app folder on your phone (either with ADB or a file manager on your phone, if you do it either of these ways, a flashable zip is not needed), reboot, and you're done.

I think there's some threads around xda on that, I just always theme stuff for myself cause I don't have time for people's requests so i've never looked into making flashable zips. Probably not too hard though. Have fun!
hi,
sadly i don't get it done to download and copy a miui locker theme on my phone and apply it...
i already read a lot about miuilocker, how to apply local themes, edit/translate themes etc.
basically it's like this:
1. Download Theme
2. IF *.mtz file copy on your phone to MIUI/Themes <- my folder is called "theme" but I find all my downloaded (over miui online) themes in it, so it should be the right one.
3. open MiLocker
4. go to Local Tab an select theme
sadly i NEVER find the theme i just copied in the "local" list
in some guides it says you have to click "edit theme", in my version of milocker there is nothing like that so i just assume thats for an older version of milocker.
i also tried translating a theme ( http://androidforums.com/android-themes/469539-how-miui-milocker-theming-customization.html )
i apply all the steps on pc, replace all chinese letters with english ones, save everything again as zip (no compression) and rename them to what ever needed.
on my phone there STILL are chinese signs...
now if i copy the theme again from my phone and extract it and look into the manifest.xml there are MY LETTERS, no chinese at all, still the screen on my phone shows chinese letters..........
i own a Moto G 8GB Stock Rom, nothing changed.
would be nice if someone can help me!

I have exactly same problem and would love if someone find solution to it or how to apply custom lockscreens from mtz file
you would have to install mihome or miui home launcher go to themes and upgrades and click refresh and on mi locker themes youll see the themes you installed manually

REMOVING NETWORK ICONS FROM STATUS BAR
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey there folks. This is my first guide so don't except from me a lot. Please do cooperate and if you have any problem, head to comments and at last sorry for my bad english
Requirements:
1. The Rom From Which You Want To Remove The Network Icons.
2. SystemUI.apk
3. A PC (You can also do it on phone by using ES File Explorer)
4. Attached Files
5. ES File Explorer
6. And Most Important-
Brain
How To(NO DECOMPILING REQUIRED):
1. Extract the ROM and navigate to SystemUI.apk and extract it.
2. Navigate To res/drawable.
3. Look for files having 3G/4G/G/E icon. The file names commonly start with stat_sys_network but it is not for all ROMs. So, it is better to look for icons.
4. Now open the icons with paint, erase them and resize them to 1x1 res and save them.
5. If you can't do the above method copy out the icons from the attached files and paste them in the res/drawable folder but rename them according to the original icons name.
6. Now Compress The APK and choose the "STORE" compression method.
7. After Compression Rename The "SystemUI.rar" To "SystemUI.apk"
8. Replace The Old "SytemUI.apk" with the new one.
9. Compress the whole ROM using WinRAR and select Store Compression Method.
10. Flash the ROM or push the apk through ADB or simply replace it in the current ROM.
Note:
On replacing it in the current ROM it will force close so you have to restart the phone and after restarting you can't see any status bar. Now replace it again and change the permission to 'rwrr' and restart again. This time it will work fine and your network icons will be gone.
11. Cheers!!!!!
Man that was awesome!
Just what i needed, but i have some questions, you remove all icons? big 3g and little 3g, or just Big 3g?
When i use xposed, i remove wifi icon because when wifi is connected, the network icon disappears, so the status bar looks clean Its possible to do something like that?
But without ROOT because i have a new phone now and i will wait for the warranty u know...

Really it is better to use apps like system ui tuner if the phone is rooted
Guide for Pie (Android 9)
Your guide was very helpful, and ignited the spark in me to investigate how to do this on the latestish firmware.
You can do this on Pie by:
-Extracting the files formatted as ic_*network*_mobiledata.xml
-Setting every instance of
Code:
android:viewportWidth=
and
Code:
android:viewportHeight=
to 0
-Reinserting said files back into the archive
-Deleting systemui.apk and replacing it with the modified apk with 644 permissions
-Rebooting
Cheers!
Hello folks, this tutorial will guide you how to theme your launcher icons without the themes (which you may not like most) from theme store. Before the tutorial, please be reminded to back up your important data, I am not responsible for loss of data.
Prerequisite:
1. Rooted
2. 7-zip
3. Creativity
First of all, your phone needs to be rooted. For the tutorial of rooting your phone, please refer to other posts.
The icons of the launcher are stored in /root/system/customizecenter/theme, there is a file named "icons", you can copy the file and put it in your PC using any root explorer (personally I use Solid Explorer).
In your PC, right click on the file 7-Zip -> Open archive. Inside the file you will find a lot of popular apps in China, you may delete them if you want. Now have your icons ready, in general cases icons larger than 128 x 128 pixels will be good. Take Facebook Messenger as an example, go to play.google.com to look for the package name. Rename your icon with "package-name.png".
After than insert the new icon into the archive (note that not to extract the archive) and put the file back to the phone. Do a reboot and now you are able to see the new icon of Facebook Messenger
I created a album in Google Photo, please feel free to share your favorite icons:
