Can someone verify to me what display group options they have on their Atrix?
I would like to only show the contacts. But my only options are:
All Contacts
Favorites
Service Dialing Numbers
Facebook
Google
I don't want Facebook friends or Google email addresses in my contacts. On both my Samsung Captivate and Motorola Flipside I have an option of just contacts...is there something I should do?
If someone could please go to their contacts list > settings > display groups and tell me what options they see?
You can go to more options/settings and unselect Google contacts, also select only phone numbers. You will continue seeing facebook contacts, but only those with phone number (this is useful).
Our you can create a new group with your own contacts and then select it.

My problem is different. All my contacts are on gmail, but inside different folders (friends, work, etc.).
I cannot see those contacts in the folders! Only those ones in the main folder. WHY?
I know those contacts are on my phone, as other programs can show them. Then, why not in the Atrix contacts?
I am still in Froyo 2.2.1 (1.5.7). Could someone tell me if this problem continues after upgrading to OTA 1.8.3? Or in Gingerbread 2.3.4?

The motoblur contact app sucks.
In gmail, all the contacts you have in your own groups, also have to be in "my contacts" to show up on the phone.
Check out dialer one on the market. Out lets you view specific groups way better than the stock app..

It would be pretty great if someone developed an app or something so you can have all your facebook contacts seperate from your personal contacts,
or if it was an option under the contacts menu
Just a thought...
You do not need an app for this. The phone already does this. Just sync your facebook and then under contacts you go in to the options and select "get friends" choose facebook and select all those you want to transfer to your contacts list. You then can put them in their own group or join them with their phone number and google account.
so this will not interfere with my personal contact list at all?
i DO NOT want facebook and personal contacts together.
You will have to sync your FB contacts, tell your phone to not show them in the contacts via Contats>Menu>Display Options.
Then when you want to only look at your Facebook contacts, from the Contacts app, click group, scroll down to "All Facebook Contacts."
It doesn't really accomplish anything, other than making you look in two places for information.
You also could use a Facebook Live Folder on your Home Screen if you want.
I have mine set so my contacts store their Gmail and Facebook on their contact profile. I can then just go to contacts and pick a person. Then I can click on updates in the right corner and it displays Facebook posts from my contacts. Its pretty nice.
I just received my Atrix yesterday, and have been playing around with it for a while to see if I like MotoBlur enough to want it in a custom ROM.
I'm on orange stock 2.3.4 and have set up my MotoBlur account and Facebook account. Now the Facebook widget has connected successfully as I can send a status using the home-screen widget. However i cannot find how to link my contacts to there appropriate Facebook profiles to get contact pictures etc.
Am I missing an easy trick here - are they supposed to update automatically? Or do I need to link them?
Thanks,
I believe some contacts does link automatically (when name and email from google match the facebook record). If they are not, you will need to join contacts.
1) go to contacts, select the contact, "menu", Edit contact.
2) "menu", Join
3) select the contact you want to Join
4) "menu", Save
You also need to add Facebook account to your contact "app". And if you find that you have some contacts that are doubled up.. one facebook one not then you just join them as above

How do I 'add Facebook account to my contact "app" I can't find where i'm supposed to add contacts from Facebook in my contacts? I'm running GingerBlur 6.1 by the way.
Thanks for all your help!
Do you live in Dom. Rep? i live here and also got my atrix yesterday.. the facebook widget syncs perfectly over wifi... i still havnt unlocked the phone..
Nope, I'm in the UK. I think it must be a problem with the MotoBlur servers over here maybe? Not entirely sure, but I've tried three different ROMs and still no luck.
I also have the newer Facebook layout which may be affecting it?
It's not such a big deal now as I'm using FriendCaster to sync my contacts.
pull up your contacts press the menu button and go to accounts inside the accounts press menu again and add account ie facebook
you should see one more screen in between these two and add account option is at the bottom of that page
Thanks for all your help - I had already set up my Facebook account successfully as I could set a status using Blur. Was a strange problem, but all of a sudden it's decided to work and all of my contacts have now synced to my phone, and I'm receiving status updates from my contacts now instead of just links etc.
Maybe I just wasn't giving it long enough to sync properly - thought it'd do it within an hour, but I guess not... Thanks again!
Hello,
I have just bought a new phone, HTC Desire X and there is something i don't manage to do.
When i go to contacts, i can hide or display the several groups of my gmail contacts.
When i go to phone, i see all my gmail contacts (with phone number).
It is possible to hide based on the group the contacts in the phone application? For some reason, i don't see it...
Already thanks!
I would suggest to create a new gmail account with no contact on that...only for accessing gplay.
Hi,
I've been using android device for about 3 years now and recently got a Nexus 4. I'm trying to figure out how to make my Google contacts as my primary contacts so that when I add other accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Linked, etc, I want to sync contacts in my other accounts that are on my Google contacts only. I don't want any other contacts on other accounts to be downloaded. Is this possible?
Thanks.
I don't have it in front of me and tried a couple of different version of OS, but if I'm not mistaking if you go in the settings under your contacts (or maybe in accounts) and you should be able to select with contact/account to show. Personally I only have my google account so I only show those contact but if you have ie. facebook you can also choose to show those contacts as well. Or even only contacts with phone number so in this case I don't get all the contacts in you inbox.
You can also try my favorite app that can be highly customized. Go Contacts...

Thanks. I guess you were right about the option to select which account is shown in the Phone app. I guess my problem was in the Viber contacts. I had the setting to Show All Contacts unchecked because it shows all contacts from LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter which are not on my Google. I noticed that only the Starred in Android are shown if I had this setting. I could set all my Google contacts as Starred in Android but maybe there's another way of doing this.
Sorry for being difficult.
This is the first android phone that I have had without the option in contacts to choose "show only contacts with phone numbers." Anyone know another way to make this happen? Through Gmail settings or a certain app? Frustrating seeing so many random emails and crap pop up because of Gmail. Sorry if it's a noob question, help much appreciated!
I'm in the same boat as you. I have a S6 and hate that I can't "Show only contacts with phone numbers" on here. Hope this is something in the works or perhaps I'm just not doing it right.
This setting is in the contacts to show options, where you choose accounts contacts are to be pulled from.
Unfortunately it still pulls all email address only contacts. I'd like only contacts with phone numbers.

it's not there. the problem is that the S6 or maybe Gmail itself has decided to move all contacts to My Contacts and even if you attempt to edit those contacts into a different group, it won't let you. going into an individual contact on the phone, the My Contact field is grayed out and it won't even let you deselect it so you can filter another group etc.
i was going to move all the email only contacts to a different group but that won't even work now because every contact is now defaulted to My Contacts and even in Gmail contact settings itself you can no longer change that. even if you move email only to a different group, they will remain listed under My Contacts (or All Contacts) as it's called now.
pretty stupid. hopefully there's a fix coming. i'd hate to use a separate Contacts app.

You can use the web version to that.
h t t p :/ / w w w .google. com/contacts
There, you can remove contacts from the group "My Contacts" so they won't show up in the cellphone anymore (unless you search manually).
Also, I find this post very helpful:
http: / / forums.androidcentral.com/android-5-0-lollipop/465143-how-do-i-display-only-contacts-phone-numbers-lollipop.html#post4377999
The scripts keeps in your "My Contacts" group only the contacts with cellphone numbers.
