My wife has a stock AT&T 2.1 Aria, which she says she's repeatedly lost phone numbers. Sometimes when rebooting or the phone reboots (not often), the other day she says she had JUST put in someones phone number that day and we rebooted the phone and it was gone.
I don't get it, don't the numbers sync up to Google? Or is Sense doing something silly and storing it locally? She's really frustrated with this, and I've never heard of any such thing.
Maybe she needs to show me how she's putting in phone numbers, or there's some setting somewhere. I asked her to make sure she's not looking at data from Facebook as I know this can vary as it's dynamic from the app (as I understand it anyway) but she says this happens on numbers she puts in on the phone manually herself.
Any suggestions (besides upgrade the ROM, unless it's a KNOWN fix for this issue) would be appreciated.
First thing I'd look at is where she saved them sim or Google it'll go to either. then look and see what she has her phone set to show, either or both.when I first got mine I thought I'd lost numbers but I'd saved them to my sim and had the phone set to show Google contacts.now I only save to Google contacts much easier.
Actually I think stock also has a "phone" destination too.

That's what I was afraid of, multiple places to store phone numbers instead of just Google. I'll look around and see if there's a sim vs Google setting somewhere, and have her input a sample number and see what she picks or is default.

I moved to the Thunderbolt from the OG Droid. One thing that I loved about the Droid, as I assume on most android phones, is that when I would tap on a phone number in an email or on a website, it would bring up the dialer and make the call. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get this to work on the Thunderbolt, whether it is a tap or a long press.
Is this the same for everyone? Is there anything that can be done?
Doitall76
I think it will bring up the number, just switch to your phone after u click it and it should b up on the dialer.

What browser are you using?
Sometimes it wont recognize a phone number because of the format its in I believe.
I've noticed that if i search for a place in the browser (not maps) and the search results come up with a phone number (a blue button on the page), if I click the phone number it will load up my dialer.... but without the number.
Once again, I have to say I don't think anyone actually tests the software in a real-world scenario... but maybe its just my frustrations getting the best of me. (Relax, though. I still love the phone..)

I am using the default HTC browser, but this occurs in the mail and gmail programs as well.
With my Droid, if there was a string of 10 numbers in the header "subject" area of the message, I could just click it and it would dial.
My office voice mails come through my email, this is where it comes into play and I am missing that functionality. Now I have to memorize the number or write it down to go to the dialer and manually dial it. It's just not as fluid as it was.

This didn't seem right to my experience, so I go google lowes phone number in the stock browser pick first result. It was not blue boxed, when I clicked on it I get the option to COPY|CALL|SMS|SAVE TO (contacts)
So I figure I maybe got lucky... I scroll down until I see a number in one of the replies in the comments section... same thing, no issue.
I have also gotten the blue box in the past, don't know what the special circumstance is.
Edit - Just tried it on another site and one came up blue boxed like and one didn't recognize a phone number as a phone number on a different section of the page. Interesting.

I just had lunch with someone who moved from a Motorola Cliq, to an HTC Shift, and she has the same issue. I don't know if it is that Motorola's phone are just working a little better in this arena, or if there is something wrong with these two HTC phone models.
This would be easier to deal with (not that it bothers me much) if there was just an easy way to past a copied phone number in the dialer. Am I missing something?

I agree totally, I would be willing to copy and paste all day. But, it doesn't give me the option to copy it.
I've tried several times to log into htcsense.com, but it won't let me. Is it still closed or something?

I have been able to log in all the time, but getting the features to work is another story. I have been able to get them to work exactly two times. Once, on the first day I got it on June 22nd on initial setup. The other time was maybe a couple days later. I tried locking the phone via the site but nothing happened. Around 5 or 6 hours later when I got home from work, looked at my phone and it had just locked itself. Nothing since then
EDIT: Just deleted and readded my htcsense account and can now get the ring phone function to work. Location gives an error. Tried locking again and it seems like the request went through. I am guessing my phone will lock itself in a few hours, lol
I use dolphin browser to get on in my phone , and it works , but I had set up since the first port of my og EVO so no problems hhere

Phone ring works every time. It's instant.
Same here, I can login but nothing works.
I'm able to log in, but htcsense.com thinks the device finder on my phone is disabled even though it is not. I logged a ticket with HTC a week or so ago and they replied saying that they've seen an unexpected volume and it is a known issue, etc.
I was able to create an acct, but during the verifiy device stage, it tells me to log in to HTC Sense... wtf? There's no selection for that in "SetUp" Only FB for sense and twitter for sense...

It worked fine for me, however there's a big delay. Just download SeekDroid for 99c. Best app for what you're looking for, EVER. You don't need root. You can wipe (everything, including SD card)/enforce or remove a password/track your phone almost INSTANTLY on Google Maps/alarm, grab a list of recently made, received, or missed calls AND the IMEI/ESN of the phone. Plus there's a mobile interface so you can hop on your buddy's phone if your phone is lost and there's no computer around.
I have about roughly 30 contacts in my phone (mobile numbers) and whenever i go to send a text, (press the messages app, then the plus sign) i normally type my contacts via keyboard and id get suggestions as a dropdownon my old phone (Galaxy S 4G). however I cant on this. Id have to press the "+" sign in order to access my contacts. is there a way that i can just type in my contacts in the "To:" area in messaging? I dont think this is related to the software setup, i just think its how the phone was made or something like that.
I use handscent and it does that

Your problem reminds me of another one that just recently showed up.
I used to be able to just type "mom' and get my mom's number to show for messaging even though I have her saved as *mom.
Now I have to type the *and then mom to get her to show up.
I didn't have to do this before and I think it has something to do with my Tmobile Contacts Backup syncing.
Before it synced I could just type m-o-m.
Anyway. Sorry I was of no help I was just trying to complain too. Lol.

But ithe requested is working as default setup..
That's odd because my stock app has the dropdown that shows names and numbers as I type. I have handcent installed also, which is what I mainly use.
It works perfectly fine for me. I go on the messages app, click the "pencil" on the top-right corner, write a name in the to box and it gives me suggestions. Are you running the stock rom?

I know when you're managing people (groups and favorites) you will not see any contacts that are stored on the SIM.
Is there an Android app that monitors your cell phone and how it is used? I am looking for a program that will log when my phone is unlocked, what apps are used, what messages are read, what pics are sorted through, etc.
Sometimes throughout the day I have to leave my phone around the house or at my desk and if people are trying to access it, I want to know about it and what they do on it. I tried googling it and I found one or two apps but they did not do what I wanted them to do. Thank you!

try gsam battery monitor
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm&hl=tr
sometimes it might give wrong results if the sensors are allowed in calculations but you can exclude them from options.
EDIT: LOL I got it SO WRONG. Sorry...
have you tried the app from the market called "vault"?
pretty sure in the full version it log unlock attempts and even takes pictures with your front facing camera of anyone trying to unlock your phone
Fingerprint lock and it's done - no unauthorized access possible. One reason why I'm sticking to GB.

Thats not true. The're stored in either internal or external memory. Whatever suits you best. Although you can back up to google photos with unlimited storage at the price of it only being saved in "high quality" compared to "original" where you have to use your limited google drive space instead.
High quality:
Unlimited free storage
Photos are compressed to save space. If a photo is larger than 16 MP, it will be resized to 16 MP.
Videos higher than 1080p will be resized to high-definition 1080p. A video with 1080p or less will look close to the original.
Original quality:
Limited free storage (15GB)
All photos and videos are stored in the same resolution that you took them.
Recommended for photos that have more than 16MP and videos with more than 1080p.

it's in camera settings, but I cant find any setting to not save them locally. They're saved locally, and when they're backed up to photos you can free up space on device if you wish, through photos app. You can also see device folders containing pics in the photos app menu.
I have the same question as Limey, i recently purchased the Moto One phone and i couldn't find anything other than Google gallery. and google calendar. My issue being i want to save things locally on the phone or sd card . I have preiously been locked out of my google account despite having purchased apps from the play store using a credit card that was linked to my name and address., even though i provided this on Google forum they said they couldn't unlock my account as i could not prove the account belonged to me,
You also don't seem to be able to get rid of the Google search bar .or even change its position on the home screen. which you only get one of, I have had to install a launcher over the top

As I said, the files are being saved locally. You can check it either in files app, or photos app by chosing device folders in menu and there you'll find it. Or just install a gallery app if you prefer that.
Regarding calendar and launcher you'll have to remember that this is an Android One device which basicly means that it's running pure android with a few OEM implementationes from Moto that is approved by Google, and that Motorola and Google worked together both hardware wise and software wise to put this together, much like the old Nexus series.
How did you get locked out from your own account if I may ask?

Thanks for the info, There are a few things that are annoying me after days with the phone perhaps you or Limey could advise/direct me to some solutions;
No Notification Led . According to the Moto forum, the led on the front of the phone will only work to tell the user that the battery is low
Battery percentage is so tiny that it is impossible to read. I have to pull down from the top to find out what my level is
Speed dial, press and hold a number on the keypad to call a designated contact. Its a function i must have been using since the late 90s
I went for the phone because of the promise of updates and patches for 24 months plus the fact that batteries are no longer user replaceable which irritates me no end. So i refuse to spend big money on a handset. The ecological impact of manufacturers who bring out a new phone every year is not sustainable for the planet. One way to help is to go back to being able to replace the battery when needed
I got locked out of my Google account due to over reliance on 2FA
I wake up one morning and my phone fails to respond, screen off .. After various forms of cpr i decide to put my simcard in an older phone which i kept as a backup, i have to use a sim adapter though which ends up jamming the sim slot in the backup phone.
Now i don't have a phone or simcard working. I go to shop buy a new phone and temporary sim. I cant get to my network providers shop so they say it will take 5-7 working days to post me a replacement sim
I want to download my contacts from my google account onto my new phone so i try and log in except it wants to send me a code to my registered number which i can no longer access . Option 2 google sends a email to my backup email address which i haven't used for some time. After 3 attempts i am then locked out my backup email account.
Eventually my replacement sim arrives and i try and log in to my account expecting it to send a code to my phone .. It doesn't and want me to go thru the account recovery process which i do only to to told by the screen that "Google will now send a password reset to your backup email address " .. Now im really stuck
Apparently after some research, Gmail forum moderators can possibly take your case up and help gain access to your inbox.
I do as requested .. Attempt to login via device that i have previously used Answer as many questions as i can, such as when the account was created ..verification code to the phone number associated with the account. I explain on the forum that i cant access the backup account but i do have a email which is from the playstore for an app i purchased using my credit card, which is linked to my home address and obviously my name.
Apparently is was not enough to unlock my account but i am told to try again in a week or so
During this time i am telling my friend all about this problem who lives in the US. He tries to help me but without doing his research.. just goes through the recovery process not knowing that its best to do this via a previously used device.
Some time passes and i try to recover my account again only to be told that multiple locations in the world have tried to log in to the account which makes it even less likely i will be able to recover the account .
Lost pictures and some contacts but most annoying of all is that i am no longer able to use twitter, and other apps where i used my Google login.... each time i try and setup a new account it says this phone number is already associated with another account why not try and recover the account info. When i raise a ticket all i get is automated response and get sent on a loop of steps which i have already tried.
That was partly why i wanted a phone with 2 sim slots
Google services are free but after something like this happens it makes you hesitant to go further into the google eco system. Hence i didn't want my pictures or calendar to be saved only on the cloud. When i can provide documentation that proves my id yet i am still locked out because "computer said no" it does make you think of 2001 the movie "I'm sorry Dave I cant do that"
As i said at the start,..over reliance on 2FA, prior to enabling it i never forgot my password
Uuh, that sounds like a really bad situation. I guess I'll never gonna enable 2 step verification lol.
I totally agree on the battery percentage. It's way too small and that makes it totally useless. And yes, the led is not used for notifications. I've changed it's behaviour to blinking while it's charging and solid when it's fully charged just to get it somehow usefull, but it requires root to do so.
For the speed dial you could assign contacts as favorites to have them shown when you open the dialer.
I kind of liked those times when you could actually change both battery and screen by yourself, but these days everyone wants a water'/dust proof phone which requires everything to be glued together, making it hard for end user to to do "diy" stuff without a lot of special tools.
Now you'll have to send it to service just to get the battery replaced.
Anyway, I really hope you get this google thing sorted out. Must be a pain to be locked out like that , losing data, and having troubles to log in/make new account on other services as well.
