Hey guys,
Forgive me if this question has been covered, I did plenty of searching without finding what I was after.
I have an app that was installed via Android Market. And so, the Android Market knows when new versions are out and notifies me of an update. Titanium Backup calls this the 'Market Link', not sure what else it could be called.
My question is, how would I go about 'disconnecting' the app from the Market? Deleting the market link as if it were side-loaded?
Yes, I know this means no more updates for the app etc. Which is actually what I'm after.
For reference, I'm using a SGS - DocRom V9.6 with Speedmod Kernel k13a
Thanks.
Hey Guys,
So no body knows how to delete the link between app and Android Market so that the Market no longer knows it's installed?
Or am I best copying the app somehow, uninstalling it and then side-loading it?
Thanks.
Using Titanium Backup (Pro) long click/press on the app you want to 'disconnect' from the market.
Then select Detach from Market
I added (Pro) because I'm not sure if it works on the standard version or not..which I'd highly recommend getting the pro version if you don't already have it.
Awesome thanks for the tip, I didin't know there was an extended menu if I long-pressed an app in Ti Backup.
Though once I long-press, 'Disconnect' is greyed out. And in fact, all my apps have this greyed out (And I do have pro), yet they all show in Android Market?
'Force Attach to Market' doesn't seem to do anything either.
Weird, I'm able to Detach the market link of both /data and /system apps - some of which I do and do not have backups of.
I'm not sure if this will really do anything, but you can always try using the "market doctor" to find missing market links, then see if you're able to remove the link that it finds. But to be honest, I'm not really sure that will do the trick nor do I have any clue why that option isn't available to you
Only other thing I can think of is to clear the market's cache/data:
Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Market
click force stop then clear data & clear cache
If they're both blanked out, just use TiBackup to wipe the market data.
After all that, see if you're able to Detach the Market Links
Hope this works

Thanks for the help.
Looks like clearing the data from the Market app (as you described) has allowed me to detach my apps from the Market through Ti Backup now.
That's not how I managed to do it though. I did it a far more complicated way!
I made sure I had a backup of the app, then uninstalled it.
I then browsed to the Titanium Backup backup folder on the internal SD card, and found the *.properties file of the app in question.
Long press on it and opened it in Text Editor.
I then deleted out every line that started with 'market.'
I then saved it, and Ti Backup automatically creates a backup of the original file.
Then I restored the app.
But to get this process to work, I also had to clear the Market app data (as per your tip).
Did I mention complicated!

Not sure I'll get a reply on an over a year old thread but worth a try. I tried this method but didn't work for me. When restoring the app did you restore data also? Thanks.
I'm still here!
The app I was trying to disconnect from the market I don't think had any real data to restore, so I don't think I was restoring data as well, no.
I'd say both the Market (now Play Store) and Ti Backup have changed a fair bit since this post. Ti Backup does have the ability to detach apps from the Play Store, if you find it in the app list and long press it will show the option. Some apps I think won't detach, and it could be because they're linked to your google/gmail account (for certain permissions or whatever). If they remain linked to that account, then I guess the Play Store still thinks it's installed on the phone (because it is).
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help!

Thanks for the reply. The app I wanted to break from the market is Business Calendar Pro that I bought a while back. The new updates don't work with the ROM on my phone so I wanted to stop the updates. I have MyBackup Pro and it has an option to break the market link but doesn't work. I haven't bought Ti Backup but use the free version. I don't want to buy it just to find that it won't work. I don't think Biz Cal uses google data but it does us the built in calendar's data so that might be why I can't break the link. Oh well. I'll keep trying different options. Thanks again.
Hi, not sure if this will do the trick but you could try extracting the APK for the app (not sure if TiB can do it or this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extract.apk) And then uninstall the market version and side-load the extracted version. I have a feeling it may not work as sometimes when I've side-loaded beta versions the released version has shown up in the Play Store as installed. When I try and uninstall it from there, the Play app tells me the app wasn't installed from Play and gets me to confirm uninstall.
I guess that's the long way of saying that the Play Store app must be using some mechanism to detect apps installed on the phone, even if not from the store.
Thanks again but the market seems to keep the data linked somehow. I'll keep trying different scenarios I guess...
did you find any method that work?
Honestly I haven't had time to mess around with it this weekend, but I'll keep up on the research and post here if I find something out. Thanks
Titanium Backup is not working for sure, at least for now, maibe they'll fix this sometimes!

Yea. I figured that. Glad I didn't buy either to try them. thanks. It sucks but will have to deal with for now I guess.
found a fix
Hey. So I was looking around some more and found an app called "market fixer" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kstudio.marketfixer&hl=en
It seems to scan apps that aren't linked to the market. The other thing it does, if you "scan all links", is give you all your market links which you can then select and "delete market link"
I check and it works. Also some reported it stops working on reboot, but mine worked fine. The app does warn that it will need to be reapplied if market data is cleared. Just wanted to update you and hopefully help anyone else with these troubles
Hi. I just gave this ago and worked very well. Thanks for finding that out and sharing.

update
update on market fixer. I guess if you clean google play cache it relinks also. easy enough for me to use market fixer before I "update all" though so no prob for me.
After moving to 351 update (15609)
my apps were washed away. (thats ok, as I had too many apps installed anyway!)
Now, I have apks of all the softwares I had before, and which were useful.
Some are paid ones, of which I do not have the installer apks
For the free apps, which I installed without logging on to market, I am not able to see any update menu!
and they are not showing up in My apps (part in market) either.
-the "market" app has changed too (from what it was before.)
Help please.
Thanks,
Sony.
Another issue!
I see some notifications stick around a lot longer! (irritating!)
"Battery full Please remove charger" stays on for like 15 seconds.
Bluetooth voice dialing works well,
Wifi works with much better success rate of connecting!
MODs: Please rename thread as "Problems with 351 (15609)" or something similar.
Sony.
Note: I have already tried the Clear Cache solution.
_________
Damn: I tried to "Uninstall Updates for Market" in applications menu.
and now, the Market looks primitive!
whats wrong here!?
By uninstalling the market updates you went back to the oldest version of the market.
I can't help you with the apps, but it sounds as if you might need to flash your phone again.
Now new thing!
Today the phone got stuck at the lock screen (long time!)
then I restarted it through Power button long press.
Then the Dell logo kept coming again and again.. and it didnt boot~!
So, I removed the battery cover, and rebooted. then it was fine! (yikes)
I am on stock, no roots, no nothing yet!
Even the default update can cause problems?(Oh, I had not rebooted the phone since 2 days.. but I have gone longer before.. without the phone getting any slower!)
One thing is definitely mentionable though,
The battery life has been exceptional!!
Full charge in the morning (6 am - unplugged)
And, decent browsing (FB + gmail) + 40-50 mins of calls + games for 30-40 mins
and by 7 pm I still have 68% battery
That has been the case for past two days (since I upgraded 318 to 351)
@Strephon Alkhalikoi
you suggest, I flash the phone again?
hmm. Ok, will try that if nothing else works.
Any other suggestions on the table?
One more thing
I had used the Dell Backup and Restore > and used system settings restore too (in the options)
Just thought of putting it, as thats the only thing thats between the flash and the current problem. << (any relation?)
Help appreciated!
Sony
Re-flashed!
WEll,
i am officially going nuts!
I flashed the 351 update again.
everything nice and sweet..
But, hey!
Market is still behaving crazy!!
and App brain or anythin is also unable to do any good!
Guys! Please help!!
The Market is not showing apps, which I install off my SD card apks!!
whats wrong!?
Bonkers,
Sony
Anybody, yet?
Hey guys,
anybody ever faced such a problem?
Anybody know any solution ( that I havent mentioned in above posts? ).
Highly appreciate the help!

When you install apks, they won't show in the market. You'll need to use an illegitimate market to show all installed apks (search google).

I did search google extensively!
My method of installing has a name: sideloading, (right?)
and, I see, that it 'does' show in the market for other guys!
and, Google search shows this as a sync-market issue!
people have some work arounds and all, but none is sure shot way of doing that.
I am looking for a solution.
Thanks,
Sony.
Are your free apps not showing up as installed either...
If you are using pirated apps they normally won't show up as installed, much less allow you to update without paying for them through the market.
Any free apps you use, you shouldn't install them from the sd card, rather install them directly from the market....

none of the apps are showing up (free + paid)
No pirated ones. Paid ones (only 2 of them, but, even those arent showing up!!)
About installing free apps from market-
well, that is one solution. but,
my question is exactly the corollary of that!
Why are sideloaded apps not showing up, when they did just finely show up, when I was on 318 !!?
What happens when you guys 'sideload' any app?
Let me know.
Thanks!
Sony.
P.S. People are discussing it on market.google.com/discussions as a 'market-sync' issue! as stated in prev post of mine.
*Sigh!*
Since google released their web-based market interface, the definitive list of apps on your phone (as shown in the market app) comes from the list on the website, which is the list of apps that were downloaded and installed through the market.
If you sideload something, it doesn't appear on this list.
In the past, pre- the web interface to the market, the definitive list was generated by the market app by scanning your phone. Not any more.
The only way now to get the apps to appear in the market app as installed is to install them through the market app (or market website).
Best workaround I know of is to use appbrain's app market. The app in that still scans your phone for the list, and can check for updates, and then uses the standard market to install the updates, so from then on the app is listed in the standard market.
So, basically, to get the apps listed in your standard market app's list, don't sideload.
Now, I just learned of a market backup program that you could have used beforehand, but that doesn't help much now :s.

I'm running the CM7 nightly roms on my NC, and I've recently noticed a number of apps no longer listed as compatible from the market. Angry Birds for example, does not have the install button on the previous market, and on the new 3.1.X market actually has a message at the top of the window that says incompatible.
The web version of the market has my nook grayed out in the install window.
My build.prop is the stock CM7 one, no hacking.
What gives?
I had the same problem and believe the is some other posts for this.
My fix was:
1. diable wifi
2. uninstall the market update
3. backup and uninstall market updater with titanium backup
Sent from my NookColor
My fix is:
set resolution to 160dpi (using LCD Density app or hacking build.prop) and clear Market data
???
profit!!!
Many apps which I have downloaded from market before are saying that they are not available in my country. Whats the point excluding countries? Do the dev wanna make money or not?

Some countries do not have paid app support. Sometimes the dev just likes to keep stuff in the US to not have any problems with money conversions, import/export laws, etc.

Hi, I edited my build.prop manually and changed the fingerprint/description to match a Nexus S using:

ro.build.fingerprint=google/soju/crespo:2.3.4/GRJ22/121341:user/relelease-keys
rebooted, cleared cache, dalvik, in cwm and booted and everything shows up and works - facebook, netflix, etc...
I just #commented out what was there and added the lines below, saved, rebooted and viola!

I also set dpi to 160. I didn't see any fixed app info until I took my Nook to a wifi network I've never used before and ran Google Market; it showed (for the first time after autoupdating to the newer GM a few weeks ago) the accept/deny conditions window. After clicking accept, GM started showing not only the usual apps, games, books sections but also movies. Half my apps which weren't showing updates before showed available updates. Google Market itself updated to the latest edition, still showing Movies.
I'm not sure if using the NC at a brand-new location did something to market data, but if the dpi fix isn't working I would recommend trying (the market data clear).

Market seems to be fixed, most likely on Google's server end. A number of us have not needed to clear market data for several days now. I'm going on 4 days with fully functioning market at 160 and no data clearing. Joenathane is experiencing the same. It is possible that this is what angomy experienced albeit in an indirect fashion.
I did not notice till I flashed the newest gapps (0823), so can't say for sure why it is working. Would suggest those clearing market data before opening the app to stop doing so for a while and see if the apps list stays solid.
incompatibility in market
after trying everything, i also found that (atleast for me) if i cleared data for the market, that fixed it.
thanks,

I am seeing the same issue as well. I am using Market v3.1.5. A couple days ago in My Apps I was showing 123 installed applications. Today I am only seeing 94. When I do a search for an application that should be showing in My Apps, the search will return the result and shows that I have the application installed. But when I go into the app on the Market. it is telling me that in a yellow ribbon on top "Your device is not compatible with this item".
One application in particular that this is happening to me on is Norton Mobile Security. And because the Market is now telling me that this application is not compatible on my device, my paid subscription is no longer being recognized, taking me from the Full version to the Lite version. A second example of an app is Astro File Manager.
The Market App sucks period! Its the buggiest piece of crap on my phone lol.
Possible fix/ work around
I have had this problem on my HTC Hero - it occurred on v3.1.5 of the Market, but not on 3.0.26 and earlier.
I found that when I changed the dpi settings on my display back to the standard setting and then cleared the market data (from Settings - Applications - Market) that it worked again.
If you have used Droid Tweaker or similar to change display settings, then try changing it back to standard - which I believe is 240 for the HTC Evo 3D (correct me if I'm wrong!)
For those who like manually editing stuff, the line in question is found in /system/build.prop and looks like this:
ro.sf.lcd_density = ###
Once you have set it back to standard, reboot the phone, and then clear the market data as above. If this works, then you have your answer - I have got nowhere with Google and found this out from their forums. It seems to affect a fair number of different devices and users.
I have 2 gmail accounts and somehow the market was working off the wrong account. check menu > accounts and make sure it is on the correct account.

Note: Root access is required in order for this to work.
Since I've found a workaround to install apps not showing up in the marketplace and haven't seen anyone address the issue other than rewriting system files, I thought I'd post this for people who (like me) don't know how to use the first method.
1) search for the app you want on Google in your browser, ie "xxx android"
2) click on the result leading to the Marketplace website (IMPORTANT: be sure to open the link with your browser and not the Market!)
3) click the "Install" button
4) you will be prompted to login, enter your info (you should only have to do this once)
5) this time, choose to open with Market when prompted
6) click the "Install" button and your app will download!
Hope this helps anyone

I don't understand how this can work - if apps aren't showing up in the Market on your tablet, surely that's because Market thinks they're not compatible with your NT. And if that's the case, when you sign into your account in the browser, the same thing would happen of not letting you send the app to devices it doesn't think are compatible?
In browser, the Market doesn't even list my NT as one of my devices, even though I'm signed into the Market app on my NT. Any thoughts on this?
I've had this method work twice and fail a couple times. At step 5 when it opens up the market the app still shows as incompatible but it downloads it anyway.
Torrential91, can you give me an example of an app that this worked correctly for you?
rodorr
I just had it work for Real Racing 2 free version.
I tried it with facebook, but there was no download option, just a note saying it was not compatible with my device.
This method was successful in getting to the app page where i could not before.
I tried "Real Racing 2" and it did indeed work for me. It gave me the message "Your device isn't compatible with this item" but it went ahead and downloaded it anyway. So it does work with some items. Maybe it just doesn't work if there is a cost associated with the item.
rodorr
I know Google maps worked for me. I believe Tumblr also worked this way.
Seems like this method is hit or miss. Can't really say why =/ I'm not a dev in any way, just a guy that experiments with trial and error haha.
Maybe a dev can chime in on this?

Not to sound ignorant, but is this on a rooted nt? I put the android market on here and it wouldn't even start up, so i'm assuming this is the case.

I followed all the steps but when I choose market for the prompt it pops up and says your device isnt compatible with this item. Any ideas?
