Yes, I also have the same issue. Any solution? I tried adding / merging the contact in gmail contacts, still no go.

Yeah,I'm having this problem as well. Using CM 7 (nightly, based on android 2.3.5).
What I do is
1. if the "unknown" contact doesn't exist in my contacts, I just put a name on it.
2. if the "unknown" contact exists in my contact with a name (and other details), I just Merge them.
That way I won't have to see that "Unknown" label on my phonebook.
But still waiting for a solution..

I just saw the same thing happen on my phone running 4.3. Whenever I used the online contacts manager to move Google+ contacts into Gmail contacts, those same contacts would show up on my phone as 'unknown'. My solution was to use the online manager to change each contact's name (listed under "My Contacts") to something else first, and then changing it back. The 'unknown' contact on my phone will then be updated with the name.

I am having a force close issue when trying to add a new contact. Also can't goto "My Profile" in contacts menu. ANDROID.PROCESS.ACORE stopped unexpectedly. I love the ROM just reporting a bug. I can't post in developer forum yet if someone would be so kind to pass the word and let me know if you are having same issues. Thanks

Try fixing permissions from ROM manager.

are you running the ICS google+ or google music? That has a known issue with FC's when modifying or creating contacts

Turns out it is Facebook. I do not sync my contacts however if I delete my Facebook account from accounts and sync I can save a new contact. Then of course I can't log back into Facebook without it trying to sync contact again!

I sync my Facebook contacts and still don't have a problem. You using the Samsung Facebook sync or the actual app?
I was using the facebook app. After adding my Facebook account thru socialhub everything works. Must be facebooks problem?

This is probably my problem then. I am running ICS G+. Adding my Facebook account to socialhub fixes the problem though.

So I have contacts from facebook (I only add people I know). Some of these contacts have the peoples number and some don't. I can't edit a facebook contact it says to add a number. So instead I have a facebook contact and a phone contact with the exact same name but with the number. How can I merge these? I'm sure I'm not alone on this.
Open the phone number contact. Hit menu, edit, menu again, then join.

I hear you..as far as I know that's the only way to do it unless your contact names are are listed exactly the same as the Facebook names.

This is what I did. It's a pain, and yeah, you have to have your contact's name be the same as their Facebook name. It's a real PITA when somebody wants to use a clever nickname and you just want their real name.
Ultimately, it's a choice between, don't sync, or sync and have a mess, or sync and merge and deal with the compromise.
I have an xt910 running on the latest EU version and I am facing a problem. I have some of my contacts linked with their Facebook so their photo shows when they call me. The first time I linked them everything was ok and their pics was shown correctly. But when someone updated their pic it showed it as blanc. Now none of my contacts has a pic displayed regardless if it is a simple Facebook contact or a linked one. I have the latest Facebook app from the market. I think it has something to do with the folder which the Android stores those pics and I want to delete it to see if it will force the update. Does anyone knows where they are stored or has any suggestions about the matter;

It was easy to force update of Facebook contacts on wp7.. Not so easy on Android..
I'm interested in a way to force it besides using an app which is free on goggler play, which messed up my contacts by attaching the wrong image to the wrong person..
Sorry, this is my first Android phone.. Previously on wp7, blackberry and Nokia 5800..

Go into config/aplications/manage apps/... and clear the contacts app cache, this may solve the black pics.

I just cleared data for anything with "contacts" in the name, and your contacts will resync.
I have Facebook and friend caster pro installed. Friend caster syncs HQ pics when setup correctly and has kept them up to date for me.

How to FULLY delete (only from Mobile) those 1000s of email contacts which were synced earlier in my S2 (JB 4.1.2 Neatrom) from Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc.
I have totally disabled automatic 'Sync' on all accounts added, and I only need to manually sync for new emails only. I can manage to 'display' contacts with a number only, but when I run a 'search' it brings up all email contacts again ffrom the db.
I simply don't want any email contacts but phone contacts in my phone.
Tried couple of tools which helped purge duplicates, but not email contacts itself.

Is it a option to delete your account and add them again but only select "Sync Email"?
Clear data for your contacts app and the contacts storage from Application Manager.

That can help for avoiding future contact sync, but here I am worrying about those contacts which synced in the past

Anything that is stored on your phones contact database will go, and Sim contacts which are stored on the sim card you will have to manually clean. Anything and everything else should go.

Dude I am sorry, but I don't think you've got my question properly. I don't want everything and anything to go, only 'e-mail' contacts to be booted out of my Mobile....any feeds?

Couldn't you just backup whatever you need using some app and restore back into a cleaned database, I have done it before myself.

Allright guys, I fixed my problem by myself....lots of thanks to all tried to help
Wondershare Mobilego for PC was the key tool to manage Android contacts from PC, where I had option to pick e-email contacts and purge them!

Yes I could, but you should really consider this 'whatever I need take a backup and restore only what I need', because excluding 3000+ email contacts from the required 500 contacts in a mixed contacts pool is HARD JOB...I had'nt find any tool to isolate them, all threads recommend 'SELECT' only what u need and export....do you find it easy to select one after one among the junk/needed contacts...NOooooooooo :cyclops:

Ok so I am very recent to the forum of xda.... I recently installed the color os....everything is fine in this rom....no lags or any disturbences.... However whenever there is any incoming call...it doesnt show the name... it only shows thenumber despite the fact that the contact is already saved in gmail and contacts shown in my phone are synchronized with gmail... why?

I too got the same situation as u mentioned but i deleted the gmail sync contacts and made the sync option off it might happnd coz the sync option was clickd on while u logged into gmail
