Internal Storage - HTC Aria Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to increase the internal storage on the Aria from 185 mb? The Sense 2.1 Salsa port takes up too much internal storage and I just wanted to know if we could increase that amount. The devs over at the TP2 forums have created toporesize which increases the size of the data.img file.

Yea I'm having the same problem. I really hope that there is something that we can do about this.

I haven't used the new sense rom ports, but I believe dt's a2sd is functional on them. You could use this to move apps and dalvik cache to the sd card...

I already moved all the applications that it allowed me to. Problem is, cm7 has an option where you can set where the application gets installed but this Rom only tries to install it to internal storage. It would be great if there was a way to increase internal storage.

You need Dark Tremor a2sd. You can start reading HERE.
.

Yeah. DT's a2sd tells the system that the apps are installed on the internal storage, but actually moves them to an extention on your sd card. You do have to set up the partition on your sd card, though.

Got it. Thanks!

[MOD]Droid X2 SD Storage flip-flop - SD 2 Internal/Internal 2 SD (Updated 8/22/2011)

Droid X2 SD Storage Flip-Flop
So what is a SD storage flip-flop? Basically what this mod does is switch SD storage to internal storage, or internal storage to SD storage. Why is this beneficial? Well, on the Droid X2 in its stock form, your actual SD card (the one you put in the phone by hand) is not mounted in the "correct" file system space by default. This screws a lot of things up e.g. trying to install a Gameloft game which ends up installing on the internal MMC, or general system files getting stored on the internal MMC. This mod fixes that issue and puts everything on your actual SD card like usual. Technically, the internal MMC is faster to access than your SD card, so it makes sense why Motorola made it this way, but from a user standpoint it doesn't make much sense, at least, to me.
This can be flashed in BSR recovery. To check if it works, look at your SD storage menu in your Settings. If they flip after flashing the ZIP, it works.
WARNING: This will switch your SD card configuration. Your SD Storage will become your Internal Storage if you flash the zip. You can return to a "normal" configuration by flashing the second links. If you do a factory data reset, REMEMBER that your SD card configuration has been flipped, since there are check boxes allowing you to format your SD card / internal storage - Choose the right one! Also, there are general BLUR application settings that might need to be changed e.g. Blur Camera storage area. Just remember that the storage terminology will be flipped.

This is something that has bothered me since day 1 of owning an X, thank you so much for this!
I did this in june using some tweaks that were posted on here, and it made my phone reboot when connected to USB mass storage. Have you tested that by chance?

Yeah it really bothered me too. I was trying to install games to test out the Tegra chip (since it is so awesome), and it kept downloading everything to the phone. Kind of silly, there is only 4gb free there, and one game could be 1gb. That doesn't make much sense. So here we are
Updated SD 2 Internal download links. If you are using this mod then please re-download for the app2sd fix. There was a bug where if you moved an app to sd card it would break on reboot. Now apps move to internal MMC but data is read from the SD card. Best of both worlds

When I did the pm setInstallLocation 3 command in terminal emulator, I got an error saying a screen full of possible commands, the most relevant looking part at the end said, basically:

2: install to external
Did I miss something somewhere? How do I make 3 a valid option??

What about when you backup apps using TiBu? Installed atrix port and i couldn't restore them. So i just downloaded "back to stock" flip-flop. Didn't want to clog up that thread with a stupid question, so i just asked here.
You can also point TiBU to the proper directory in settings.

Actually, it was a typo sorry about that guys! I took those options off. The mod file is setup to only allow app installs to the 4gb internal emmc.

Noob alert question-apps to ext

I know I can move apps to SD, its an option by going to manage applications. What I want to know is how can I move all of my apps to ext to save even more internal memory. I'm currently on void forever. I'm not using ungazed or darktremor. I did download S2E from market but it only allows moving of downloading data. I don't want to run my entire phone off of SD just applications. Along time ago about 2 months ago I did set up a partition l. I forgot the specifics but currently I'm using a class 6 8gb card, so I know it was higher than 512mb

There is no way to move all the apps you want to sd in froyo without ungaze&co.
In cyanogenmod you can move every app you want to sd but apps with widgets will cause errors and other apps wich were not designed to be moved to sd will not run 100% correctly.
With ungaze, I flash the zip than what?

Flash the zip then your apps will be moved automatically to your ext partition.
But there's a catch: in time it is possible to damage your sd card because the apps will run directly from the sd wich is not really designed for too much r&w.
Appreciate the help

Errr.. You are confused.
1. S2E does move apps to the ext partition on CM7 based roms.
2. I suppose you want to use ungaze's data2sd based on your previous posts, A2SDGUI doesn't work with that.
3. Yes you require an ext2 partition. Simply use recovery, minitool or gparted.
link2sd is an amazing app I absolutely love it on my vm670 which has so little internal memory.

Internal memory shortage!!

Although we can move apps to sd with rooted device but it still comsumes some memory form mobile. Is it not possible to move apps to sd without any consumstion of internal memory?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA
I dont think so...
Partition your SD and use link2SD if you're on stock rom or a2SD / s2e if you're on custom rom. Still, all apps use a small amount of internal storage. Also check if your cache isn't too big, I've recovered up to 40 MB by clearing cache every few months.
You can use "S2E" from market and tick all option including the data one but you will get a decrease in performace. For data you must enter in definitions and tick advanced for accessing it.
I am using Miracale v4 by itasoulas and using link2sd to move apps to sd but if i download heavy size app or games it takes much more internal memory so, i'm running out of internal memory.
If i do partition of my sd card to install app separately will it also consume internal phone memory?

I have made partition of sd yet. Im thinking of making it if I get any solution.
I used Link2SD and now have over 100mb free internal space. I partitioned the sd card to ext3, 1024mb.... works like a charm, no performance issues.. widgets are recognized as well.

i choose manual to move app to sdcard from settings(no use any app for this),20 hd games+17 casual games + 35 apps i still have 70mb free memory, maybe s2e gives more free space but it isn't stable, sometimes when i unplug my battery because of lags, then my apps are gone,link2sd is rubbish, they just give me 40 mb space and unstable like s2e.

Absolutely true, the only thing good is that it still keeps the app fast (+ widgets) and no hassle on connecting USB
Useful for just those 4-5 apps one wants
Even in link2sd no hassle in USB class 10 sdcard so its super fast :-D

You need a rooted Ace for this? And custom ROM?
Guys,
Sorry to ask a noob question:
I know how to partition the SD card to EXT, but does these apps mentioned, Link2SD etc, working with stock rom? And uprooted phone?
Thanks.
Yes.
But you need follow the tutorials that are posted in the forum (hit search).
In stock roms u need (i guess) another kernel that support inid.d scripts.
The only reason i love cyanogen is because of s2e, after move dalvin on ed-ext i have 160 mb and with all my apps (20-+) i have 140mb.
I don't know if on stock u can do what s2e does but there are another tricks. (Link2sd) for exemple.

Data2sd?

Seeing as how the rezound has a whopping 2.34 gb dedicated for /data, what's the best way to incorporate data2sd if at all possible? The sdcard is formatted and ready to go, all I need is the best way to add the capabilities. Thanks.

u mean 2.34 GB for app storage, right? because rezound has approximately 11 GB for data storage (the phone storage).
from the subject if u mean something like app2sd darktremor script, super app2sd script, cronmod data2sd/ext2sd script or any others. All these scripts have 2 specific partitions for both the app and data by using partitioned sd card, i've used for some my old phones.
i've read related threads here for seeking the function too but never find at least one special thread about this kind of modding or other rom threads that provide data2script mod in their roms. Honestly i need it too
may be u have to make some gambling here for trying to use universal data2sd/ext2sd or any kinds which compatible for rezound in general hacking modding thread

Look at Link2SD... I have been using it since the days of my HTC Aria, it essentially makes your programs partition as large as you have SD card partition space and it has a nice interface. You do have to partition your SD card though, adding a partition specifically for Link2SD and then the application creates symbolic links in the normal partition for apps that point to the sd card. Make sure you read the instructions on how to use it though, or you will be wasting your time (use Link, not move).

[Q] App Storage

Hi there,
I was wondering if somebody could answer, why the App Storage for the Desire X is limited to 2.9 GB. Apparently some apps can no lobger be Moved and I currently seem to have only 18 MB free. An installation of an update of Facebook (19 MB) or Chrome (36 MB) often fail unless I have cleared all the cahces.
Can somebody tell me how to increase this space? I have used cache Cleaner to Move all apps to sd card that were possible to move.
Maybe sb. has some ideas.
Thanks
Andy
You can install a micro SD card and move a few apps to SD if possible. If that's not enough, root your phone, partition your sd card so it has an ext4 partition and install Link2SD from Google Play. Then, you can move any apps to your sd card.

How can i install a micro SD card???:good:
i can insert one though
I think I moved all the Apps I can and I don't think rooting will do the trick.
Under AppStorage in Settings I used up 2.73 GB / 2.90 GB
Apps 0.91 GB
Other 1.81 GB
I am stumbling over the Other category.
I recently found out that my camera actually saved to phone memory and not to my sd card. I changed it now and actually moved the files.
But why is other so high here? If Apps only take up 0.91 GB that would be fine.
Did your clear the apps caches? Maybe it helps.

Thanks for the advice. I installed it, but I don't really now what I'm looking at, or what I should be looking for.
I'll try wiping my phone completely soon, and reinstalling everything. Right now it has errors often stating I don't have enough space.
