Battery draining... - HTC EVO 3D

I recently exchanged a new 3vo after having some dust issues under the screen. This new one is pretty good with keeping dust out but there is a problem with draining the battery even when it's a sleep.
It's been off the charger for about 3 hours after hitting 100% and it's down to 92% after sending a few texts and sleeping throughout most of the 3 hours.
I'm getting worried there's something draining the battery, or if the unit itself is having issues going into sleep mode.

Did you check your uptime/awake time? I usually get 18+ hours of light to moderate use of my phone, I mean, there isnt much to do with the phone because I cant flash stuff yet. I have had two instances, which were odd. I put the phone on nightstand at 100% and after 6 hours my phone completely drained and shut down. Had this happen twice. Cant reproduce it, but I'm sure it'll happen again.

Yeah I checked my awake time and then let it sleep for about a minute. It took about 20-30 seconds to fully stop the awake time after the minute passed. There was an instance where it seemed to not sleep at all.
I don't know if it's supposed to do that.

Battery issues part 2

So the original battery in my phone.. well... sucked. When I pulled the phone off the charger it would jump down to 93% no matter how long it was on the charger etc. Any attempt to bump charge was thwarted in the fact that I cant charge the phone when its off (it automatically turns on and boots into CWM). Wiping the battery stats when the battery read 100% in the OS would still result in the above.
So I ordered that 1600mah battery from Seidio. Ran the charge out of it yesterday and charged it to full during the evening/night. Wake up this morning, pull the charger out of the phone, and BOOM 100% power. Not 93%...
So was it my old battery that was bad or was there something wrong with how the phone saw its power rating?
From what I've seen with the phone, it drops down to 90% or so before it starts charging again, but it won't ever have the display show a battery decrease while plugged in.

Right but I can watch the meter go all the way to 100%... pull the plug and it goes down to 93% within seconds.
funny thing phone did the same thing...took it off the charger this morn and it dropped down to 95
I'm at 99% after about 2.5hrs of mostly idle usage. I've been just rebooting the phone with it on the charger in the morning, give it about 15-20 minutes and usually it'll stick at 100

All you are doing is semi-bumb charging it, which is fine if you really must have that extra 1hour of battery, but be warned, doing it constantly will damage your battery over time. that is the reason the phone has built in charging/decharge in the first place.
The reality is if your phone is sitting idle, that 5% wont matter at all once your phone attunes to your battery, and if your using the phone so heavily that your going dead long before the day is done (after attunement) then the 5% still wont matter !
i was having the same issues - 90% right after unplugging. had to charge the phone 3 times in ONE day and i never even touched the phone the whole day except to check the battery percentage.
brought it into verizon, they gave me a new battery and now it lasts me the entire day. when i pull the plug out now, it drops steadily like a normal battery should. i tried bump charging before i brought it in and it didn't help at all
The same thing has been happening to my dads Thunderbolt.
He charged it overnight, took it to work and was losing about 1% per minute without touching the phone. The only time it was touched was about 1 timer per hour to take down the battery percentage for his log.
He took it to the verizon store and they told him he should not expect anything longer than 4 hours of battery life without touching the phone..what kind of BS is that?

I'm having the exact opposite problem with the batteries--just ordered two of the 1600 Seidios that delivered yesterday and even after running pretty much down, fully charging overnite with the T-bolt powered down, drops to 95% immediately. Conversely, the OEM battery would stay at 100% for hours if the phone was idle (screen off / receiving any emails and SMS). Go figger.
There is a post in the Android Central forums on the 1600 battery compared to stock. After testing, they found that the two perform almost identically. Basically, it isn't worth replacing unless you go with the big HTC extended battery. Although having a spare isn't a bad idea. If only that battery door wasn't so tough to pry off when you need to change it...
nexus s had the same problem its nothing big though

Most of us probably won't have the phones long enough to see any possible damage. Starting off at a full 100% is a lot better than immediately dropping to 95 or so after pulling it off charger. It's kind of like the gas gauge in my truck. Stays full a while but once it moves off of full you can watch it drop. lol

[Q] Sudden 10-15% battery drops?

With very light usage, I've managed to get my Evo3D to last just shy of 2 and a half days. When actually using it, it's been a bit hit or miss, some days it tanks pretty fast, other days it's done quite well. But one thing I have noticed is that sometimes, especially around the 35% range, it'll spontaneously drop 10-15% (it actually did 43% straight to 14% this afternoon). It's visible in the battery use graph as a sudden nearly vertical line. It's never happened when I had the screen on actually doing something, it just happens randomly after turning the display off. Has anyone else seen this? It's pretty confusing.
First thing is first....
Did you download spareparts and see what is consuming battery? In other words, check for a wake lock.
You have to give the battery time to get conditioned. It gets better the more you go through charging cycles. I'm at 75% after 8 hours of moderate usage and that's pretty consistent for me.

For the first week or 2, the phone has a hard time understanding how full the battery is. Try draining it down to 50% or so, and then resetting it. You'll probably see a sudden drop or rise in the battery%. Resetting it will force the issue, but it can also happen while the phone is on. That's pretty normal till the the phone "Learns" the battery.
It doesn't mean you suddenly used 15% of your battery, it would probably explode if you did that... it just means the phone re-calculated the battery's life and changed the number.
Your not alone as soon as mine hits 35 percent ill shut the screen off and here it beep at me and bang its at 14%. lol same as you.
Don't know if it will help you.
I had a similar issue as you, battery would get to around 30ish % I could turn the screen on check an email, set it down and bam 14%, and the low charge noise.
I wasn't trying to fix it, instead I was doing this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153371
When I attempted this I had about 35ish percent battery left, following the directions my phone restarted when it came back up I got a 1% battery warning, then my phone went into emergency shut down. I thought something happened and I was going to have to return the phone. I powered it back up and it read 33%, from there on out my phone now drops a % at a time, and my battery life is as good as the other people who get phenomenal battery. I'm going on 48hours with light usage and still have 25% left. I've txt'd music, videos, nothing heavy.
Take it for what it's worth, I don't know what happened maybe the data reset, resets the battery calibration, I have no clue, all I know is what happened to my phone and the result.

[Q] About battery life and charging

So I had my GS2 fully charged last night. At about 415am I played Game Dev Story for about 30mins and went to bed. I wake up this morning at around 1030 and find my phone completely dead. Obviously this freaks me out since I just got my phone and it should not be going from 100% -> 0% in 5 hours of being idle. Now maybe I didn't turn Game Dev off properly and it was running in the background? I don't know. I got this phone last Monday and this is the fastest it has died. (Even setting this one aside, I'm extremely disappointed in the battery life). Also, I plug it in to charge after I found it dead this morning and went back to sleep. Wake up 2 hours later at 12pm and see its only charged to about 40% and the phone is really hot.
Are these normal for the GS2? It didnt get hot during previous charges (atleast I didn't notice it getting hot). Also what is the average battery life for the S2 and how long does it usually take to charge from 0-100? For some reason I feel like there is something wrong with mine and I should be exchanging it but unfortunately I did root it so undoing the whole process will take some time since I'm still waiting for the jigg.
Normal charge time from zero to full 3-4 Hours via stock charger .
Excessive battery drain multiple posts on the problem .
jje
I don't think anything is wrong with the battery. You can see the battery usage graph, and post if needed. And the device takes around 3 hrs 15 mins from 0 to 100% charge with AC charger.
Regards.

[Q] Truth about Battery Display after flashing custom ROMS

Hi XDA,
Ive been getting alotta help from you, great developers, and had this question
that dont think has been solved yet. (I searched for 2 days)
So my current situation is;
Im running the latest energy rom (sense 3.0) with stock kernel, (as it was recommended on the post).
After flashing custom roms, beats audio and etc via ADB, i believe my
battery stat display is not normal.
It would take at least 90~120minutes to reach 100% from 99%.
And sometimes even if I have the charger hooked up to the phone
it would still drop to 99% from 100.
I have two batteries (Stock and Anker) and tested them both.
It looks like no matter how long i charge it, as long as i have 100% or 99%
on the battery, it takes around 12minutes and 13seconds screen-on time to drain 10% of the battery. Which it was way less than i expected.
but after dropping around 68~63%, the battery seems to last longer on each
percent points.
On top of that, I think my phone is not charging anymore when I turn to power off. I can feel the phones gone cold and not charging, but the orange light is always on and never turns green for some reason.
So my question is:
IS THERE ANY SOLUTION (LIKE BATTERY CALIBRATION THAT ACTUALLY WORKS?) TO THIS? IVE READ SO MANY THREADS ABOUT THIS BUT NOTHING IS GIVING ANYBODY A CLEAR ANSWER.
I have the same problem as you. I'm on Sense 3.5 RC1.6. Infact I just restarted my amaze in hboot mode and then back into normal. My battery went from 10% to 60%. Then after like 15 minutes of usage it went back down to 10%. Also my battery drains to almost dead at about ~3 hours of screen time with moderate-heavy usage.
have you guys fully charged it ? gone into advanced in Clockworkmod and deleted battery stats?
i havent hacked my amaze but when i had my g2x after every flash i would charge teh battery to 100% then wipe battery stats x2 and then let the battery drain to 0 percent. then it should give you accurate readings
I did that but I used Battery Calibrator app from market. 2 times and discharge to 100%. Also how long should the battery last on average?
I'm runnign stock, it lasts me a day, but depends on usage. I text alot, some calls, twitter facebook, a lot of music, some FML, and some camera lasts me all day, (i charge in the morning so it lasts me a full 24 hour cycle)
Hmm seems as if my battery drains pretty fast. I timed it with medium-low brightness just leaving the screen on, with 3g and music. I get 1% per 3 minutes on. No auto-sync or background data either.
as most of people usually say i should fully drain my battery and charge til 100%,
im doing that right now.
My phone got shut off during my jelly defense stage 13 session
and plugged the phone but it didnt turn on for like 10 minutes.
so i kinda freaked out that the clockworkmod recovery that i have right now
does not support charging when the phone is not awake, but i guess the charging is really slow since i have finally turned on my phone.
im just gonna let it sit on my side table charging, and ill prolly fall asleep..
cuz im definitely not in the mood to watch LeBron James' face tonight.
I will let you guys know.
Thanks.

i hear you.
but after searching several threads about HTC AMAZE's bad battery life,
im slowly being convinced that 3 hours of screen time doesnt sound really that
bad. lol
mine just died around 2 hrs 45 min screen time while the phone was up without a charge for 14 hours. well i guess if i start using the phone nonstop after a full charge, then maybe ill get 3 hours or more.... but still...its only 3 hours...

Once it`s charged make sure you flash 5.5.0.4 recovery. Using the toolkit makes that easy.

thanks. will do right away.
ive overheard from someone that 5.5.0.4 is causing bootloops when flashing
other roms, but did you have any problem with this?

what is your battery drain on aeroplane mode

Hi,
On marshmallow and nougat with no user apps installed, ie 'factory reset' I have noticed I sometimes get excellent battery, eg I lose pretty much just 2% in an 8 hour period.
However sometimes it is 2% per hour.
It is not an app causing this, no wakelocks that I can see. It seems like maybe a certain sensor gets 'stuck on' and keeps draining the battery.
It happens when not in aeroplane mode as well but is less noticeable as the battery is drained by normal use then as well.
At first I thought it was maybe google play services body sensor permissions causing it but I removed permissions and the drain still happened.
Anyone else noticed this.
I'm a bit OCD about battery, on my moto g 1st gen I only lost 1% max overnight in aeroplane mode so 2% per hour cannot be right.
Scott
FWIW, I was at 100% before bed last night so left mine in aeroplane mode overnight.
Was at 96% nine hours later. I was very pleased with that.
Thanks for the reply. I returned my phone and got a new one. Old one drained 2% an hour. The new one drained 1% in 7 hours last night. So I think the old phone was faulty.
Hopefully the new one doesn't develop the same fault.
Scott
Looks like my new phone has the fault as well. Something causes the phone to use 2% per hour over and above normal use. Probably a sensor stuck on and using power.
I will return this phone as well and give up on Wileyfox.
Scott
