I'm on T-Mobile, but trying to decide between Sprint and Verizon. I really hate Verizon, but all I keep reading online is how horrible Sprint's coverage is. Can you guys let me know how the service is on your new Evo 3Ds? I was planning to make the switch this September, but now I'm not so sure. My T-Mobile coverage is spotty at best and I only get EDGE speeds at work, so it can't be THAT bad. I hope not, at least.
Anyways, your opinions on Verizon and Sprint would greatly help me in trying to decide what to do next. I will NOT be a part of AT&T again and Sprint seems like the best choice. But if they get a flood of new customers, people on other forums are saying it will slow the Sprint network to a crawl (due to Verizon's new tiered data plans) Thanks.
I can assure you that you WILL get better coverage with Sprint. T-Mobile may have faster 3g but Sprints data coverage easily trumps T-mobiles. My sister complained ALL THE TIME in minnesota
Sprint speeds 3g speeds in Southern California are terrible. I put up with 200-300kbps and never really had a problem with it, until I came on here and saw people saying they regularly get 1000kbps
In CT at least.....Sprint coverage is halfway between T-Mobiles & ATT's spotty coverage and Verizon's the best.....For me I keep it for the $ and the good service I get at the local Sprint Store.
Yeah, I guess I shouldn't care as much since my friend's Epic 4G gets some good data speeds at work. I'm just worried about tons of people switching from Verizon and T-Mobile for Sprint and the network getting really bogged down.
Oh yeah and rumors are saying Sprint's getting the next Nexus possibly. Huge plus there and the Evo 3D is pretty bad ass. Checked out the other day and the 3D is pretty legit.
3g in my area has gone to ****. only 3 towers in my city and my verizon phones always get 300-400Kb/s at my house (a known dead zone according to verizon) and - even in a good signal area - the sprint phones are only getting 50-70Kb/s. in a good signal area the verzion phones are getting min 600Kb/s to 1.2Mb/s. even the the bigger city 50 mi away it's the same results.
Sprint 3G is terrible on the 3D...I hate saying it, but it's true. 3G wasn't great with my hero either, however, it wasn't as bad as with the 3D.
That being said, don't get me wrong, I still love the 3D, and hope there will be an update to the radio soon. If not, maybe when 4G hits this part of my area signals will get better.
Sprint data here in baton rouge,la are good.alot better than at&t,tmobile.verizon is good here too.

My 3G and 4G have gone to hell over the past several months. This at my home right outside Phila., PA.
Over an 11 day period my average speed both 3G & 4G (when it'll connect) combined is 657kbps download, 391kbps upload, ping to test server (Comcast Phila.) 120ms.
My signal strength hovers in the -93dbm to -101dbm. Used to be -82dbm to -88dbm when I had much better data rates. Voice has never been a problem.
This is on an EVO 4g, not 3D.
Here in Montgomery, Alabama I'm getting 1 to 1.5 Mbps download speeds on 3g. There is only one 4G tower here, and luckily its a half mile from my job, but I'm getting 4.5 to 7 Mbps download. I would say coverage is very good, and you can't beat Sprint's prices.

I'd honestly stay with tmobile....I just switched to sprint from tmobile and really regret it...the 4g speeds are phenomenal...but the 3vo...(or atleast mines) doesn't hold signal....I'm on my 2nd phone and was basically told by sprint reps that the only option I have is to cancel since I'm still in my 30 day return period. Wtf !?!

Coverage AREA is great, but speeds are pathetic in many areas across the US. Sprint is way behind in tower backhaul or something in these areas.
Well where I live when I was on TMO I only got 1 - 2 bars and edge. Now that I switched to sprint I get 5 - 6 bars with 3G. TMO 3G is way faster, but sprints 3G is stil fast enough for what I need. Hope this helps. Also noticed that TMO allows you full speed DL up to 200 mb, but afterwards past the 200 mb they throttle you. Atleast Sprint doesnt throttle. Just saying.
sprint 3g here sucks, and im finding my phone roaming on verizon more and more. a year ago id rarely ever roam, but now its becoming a daily occurance that i hear that roaming notification tone a few times.
I absolutely love this phone but the 3g speeds are kind if making me want to switch to tmobile and just use the sensation.

As long as nobody else in on the tower your sitting right next to Sprint is fast. I notice a big difference at work when I'm there early or real late versus in the middle of the day. And don't expect the 4G to be that great on the 3vo. I too have connection issues when I'm outside in an area where my OG Evo got great reception. The 3vo seriously needs some radio updates.
A buddy of mine at work has T-mobile. His data blows mine out of the water. I'm talking 3 megs versus 56k. And that's no joke.

Florida, 3g before root and tweak . 0.40-1.9 mbs, thats not bad, cause i thether over 400 mbs download through usb, that's pretty awsome,, the tyrant att will give me a thousand dollar bill by now so i left them... Though the network is not as it used to be on Sprint its still pretty good. the 4g coverage is not perfected yet but It still beat anybody else. Think about it you get thunderbolt and thether you'll be cut short/T-mobile with the new ATT, so run away from all the tyrants and unlimite yourself with sprint...
I switched from TMO and as far as data speeds go, i really regret it. I went from 3-6mbps average to a whopping 150-300kbps.... Love this phone but it needs a radio update ASAP and Sprint has to get off their lazy butts and upgrade their network to handle all the users they are reeling in with their EVO's

My og EVO was getting very similar 3g speed tests as my friends thunderbolt. Now I have occasionally noticed that my 3vo is loading a little bit slower but I'm still getting 1.6 mb/s on 3g often. I'm in the Orem area of Utah.
Meh around Philly
I live about 10 miles NW of Philadelphia and get about 500 in each direction on 3G. This is with the Evo 3D. I really wish Sprint would get it together and up the 4G coverage in my area because I live on the fringe so the switch from 3G to 4G kills me. WHEN i am connected to 4G I get about 2.5mb down and 1.5 up. My wife gets the same speeds on her 3G iPhone(verizon)....

Why is the sprint network so so slow? I was doing speed tests with almost full signal and was getting like 70kb

Coverage differ eveywhere, speed is affect by tower load and backhaul, more users per tower, slower you get, so probably the sprint tower was serving more customer than ATT?
ATT 3G (which is also their psuedo 4G) is faster than sprint's 3G base on the technology, HSDPA vs CMDA/EVDO
i bet you weren't using the 4G right? if you can get a decent 4G signal then the speed should be comparable, but being inside a mall, unless the mall is right next to the tower.... hard to get a decent signal

VZW 4G is fastest, even faster than ATT HSDPA
I thought I saw Verizon scoring the highest.. but you maybe right.

Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
From what I understand ATT has the fastest speed if and when you can get a slot on the tower--they are much better at this part than they were a year ago.
Verizon has middle of the road speed and expansive coverage.
Sprint has decent enough coverage and good roaming agreements, not over-saturated towers and WAS considerably faster than Verizon--until the EVO4G came out last year. I could actually notice my speeds dropping from day to day. They bottomed out 4 or 5 months ago and are stuck where they are...
Keep in mind this also changes based on time of day and population density and your data speed will be proportionate to your signal strength for the most part. If your buddy with ATT had full bars and you had almost none it doesn't matter whose phone or network is the fastest. Though I hear CDMA and GSM handle this differently I'm not so sure about that.
Even though with only 1/4 bar on my NS4G I get 1.5mbps in my apartment...the E3D went back primarily cuz its radios sucked for stability and performance. Hell, on my E4G I traded in yesterday I got 2.1mbps with 3/6 bars. The E3D couldn't touch that.

You likely weren't even on 3g, probably down to 1x, stock software wont show the difference though. Sprint's network blows in most places but I have faith that it'll get better.
I say stick with Sprint, they are adopting new technologies quicker than verizon and at&t. But speaking of 3g speed, at&t has the fastest but spotty coverage, then comes verizon with fast speed, excellent coverage, and t-mobile and sprint tied for third with ok speed and coverage. But I hear t-mobile's 3g speeds have been getting better with their introduction of 4g.
All in all, hopefully by 2012, sprint's standard 3g speeds will be better

for NOW, what AT&T call is 4G is actually faster version of their 3G tech same as Tmobile, which is HSPA+, AT&T won't BEGIN roll out their actual 4G LTE network until LATE this year.
Notice 4G LTE is the Tech Verizon have ALREADY deployed.
Early test with the not yet congested VZW 4G LTE show ACTUAL speeds download AND UPLOAD upward of 20mbps
AT&T's HSPA+ is MAX 14mbps, most day to day use see speed between 3-10mbps.
Tmo's HSPA+ is MAX 42mbps, most day to day use see speed about 10mbps.
Sprint and VZW's 3G is EVDO, that MAX out in day to day use about 2mbps, VZW on average is faster than Sprint, maybe about 200kbps-300kbps difference.
Sprint's 4G is WiMax, fastest i've seen is about 12mbps, usually more like 3-6mbps. so to have a chance to catch your friend's AT&T's speed, you need to have 4G on.
drawback of 4G Wimax and LTE... current generation chips suck battery juice super quick, our EVO 3D can be drain in 3-5hours of 4G usage
Pro of 4G Wimax and LTE, alot more spectrum/frequency efficient on the carrier's side, they can have more capacity in the same spectrum. Note that this is a mostly a Pro for the carrier and mostly a NULL factor to end users.
vice versa a CON of ATT/Tmo HSPA+ 3G/Psuedo 4G... they need more spectrum/frequency to acheive same capacity as 4G Wimax/LTE
Just the point that the signal with my 3d really sucks where ever i go, i dont know if its a hardware issue or a software issue, i dont wanna be stuck with a phone that gets horrible signal all the time, so should i take it back or keep it and hoping an update fixes the radios?

I'm with ya man. I did both. If this gets fixed (and we get unlocked) I'll be back. But until then I'm rocking a NexusS4G with a crappy Samsung radio that is somehow more reliable than the 3D's radio--just sayin'.
It has everything to do with where you are. I am in Miami/South Miami/Coconut Grove, FL and Sprint dominates ATT and Verizon. The blackberry bold I have on Verizon from work is essentially worthless in a shocking amount of popular/urban places. The Droid X I had before the bb was equally as bad. It is so bad I have to shell out my own money for a sprint phone to get decent service.
I always figured Verizon had blanket coverage everywhere since they market it so well but their coverage where I am is really poor. Of course if you call them, they act shocked and reference their map that shows dense coverage.

I don't know what's up with this phones reception or data speeds. It Sux! I mean for phone reception, I get 2 less bars everywhere I go and for data I'm getting barley .5 mb when used to always get about .9 with og EVO.
Besides these issues the phone is top notch. I'm still have a couple of weeks to take it back, but I really don't want to. Hopefully these issues can be worked out soon.

I had a bad signal too, changed the PRL in QPST to a USCellular (15110) and have great coverage ever since When I called Sprint for my MSL, I told the tech that I was planning on changing the PRL due to a bad signal, he said "that's a great idea"

They basically say Sprint lags behind everyone in 3G and 4G. I personally get really good 3G speeds (>1mbps), and 4G when I can get it but it is not at my house or work. Just in between. Not wanting to be a whiner. I feel like when Sprint rolls out LTE and Network Vision everywhere we'll be back. I'm rather happy with my wireless data, but it seems we are right now missing out on a lot.
My 3g speeds are just pathetic now. They used to be decent, like in the 800 plus range at work. Now I'm lucky if I pull 100kbps. Plus I always drop in and out and even go to roaming sometimes. Please hurry up the roll out sprint.

Sprint DOES lag behind on network speeds. Even with the upgrades they've done in my area. Things have improved, but I don't think they're anything to brag about. Even 4G wimax when I have a strong signal is pitiful. There are times I feel 4G wimax is like AT&T or T-Mobile 3G. I don't complain, really, because it's fast enough for me to get by. But... congrats on taking the red pill and waking up

I kind of feel like this also. In a year or so from now, I expect to have fast LTE and good 3G as a backup. If that is not the case I may go elsewhere. Allthough I hate to lose unlimited data and the other perks of being with sprint.
my 3g and now 4g speeds are pretty pathetic. 3g is 100k most of the time except in the evenings when the towers are so overloaded it drops to 1x or 3g will just timeout on everything and 4g is now down to anywhere between 200k and 500k during the evening and 1.5-2mb during the rest of the time. yet sprint continues to say theres no problems in the area lol.
This is definitely not news. My Sprint service has sucked for a while now.
I'm roaming often, and when I'm not roaming the signal is weak. When I'm lucky enough to get a good signal, 3G is still slower than dial up speeds, and 4G is slower than Verizon's 3G.
Sprint is in real trouble if they don't fix this. The only reason I am still with them is because I really do like my Evo 3D. No other carrier has a comparable phone, and I'm stuck in a contract anyway.
If Verizon got a Samsung Galaxy S 3D, I'd probably break my contract with Sprint to go to Verizon.
Who cares about unlimited data if it's practically unusable in most real world scenarios?
My city isn't even on the list of future LTE markets yet either, so I'm not holding my breath for that. I do have Wimax, but it's pretty crappy.
Sprint has totally fell off. I remember a few years ago when Sprint used to consistently be first or second in these data speed comparisons. Now I would have been shocked if they weren't picked last. And I'm sure most Sprint customers would have also been shocked if Sprint was anything but last in this most recent comparison.
Sprint has got more and more expensive over the years, and the service has got worse and worse. Not a very good outlook for the future at all.
does anybody really think sprint lte will be fast? why do they not assume it will be similar to Wimax speeds?
sprint has 3g but nobody assumes it is as fast as the competition.
rude awakening! you will be unsatisfied with lte speeds and then you will realize that Wimax wasn't the problem, SPRINT is the problem

as soon as there network is upgraded... they will morph right into verizon's evil twin. price, and everything. just watch.
the only thing keeping them from not charging an ass load of money is that they are being outperformed in network capability in a lot of areas. i am fortunate to live in an area with very good 4g and 3g, so i can't complain. but man i sure feel your guys' pain with the slow network ****. that would be frustrating. it's like paying for wifi and your wifi is never working or never running fast.

They already aren't that much cheaper than Verizon anymore. I think last time I checked Sprint was like $5 a month cheaper or something like that. And that wasn't even factoring all the nickel and dime fees Sprint puts on there.
The only thing Sprint has on Verizon these days is unlimited data. The price isn't a big enough difference to really be a factor. And the unlimited data isn't really a factor (to me at least) if it's too slow to use. Sprint's just lucky their network went to **** after they already had me locked into a contract. And even then, I'd have probably left if I could get a phone comparable to the Evo 3D on another network.
Sprint did the same thing that AT&T when they got the iPhone...they didn't anticipate all the traffic on their network thus not preparing for it. I am holding out though. By the end of the year, a lot of us will have a great network to go with the unlimited data. And will be better than all the others.

The problem with these anecdotal tests is they mean very little in your town. When I worked downtown, Sprint was 800kbps. Not blazing, but amazing compared to AT&Ts 20kbps or Verizons 50.
Different side of town? Sprint is 100 and not very useful. And if I drive 3 minutes away I'm getting 1100.

I'm lucky if I get 300kbps in my home area. Luckily, I found out they took down the closest tower in light of the fact of upgrading the others to network vision and haven't yet...so I complained. Until then...it's non-stop bill credits. I'm making them pay for the lack of service. I ask what I get over someone with a $50/mon prepay plan other than the fancy phone I bought...the answer? Nadda.
Pisses me off that we'll have to get new phones again to take advantage of the 4G LTE. Thanks a lot.

Oh ya finally after two year O EVO. I wish to get this wonderful EVO 4g LTE but no coverage LTE
So now I don't want to go down from 4g Wimax to 3g hmmmmm coz I live in San Francisco. We don't have sprint LTE this year. I think my decided to wait at list until my upgrade is expire.

Wimax sucked anyways, Im in STL and it was one of the first in the country, and it was GREAT the first couple months.... then it became worse than 3g.
Its expected that the San Francisco area will have LTE within the next 6 months as it, parts of New York, Florida, and a couple other states are listed for Round 2 of the LTE rollout, which is expected to be completed before the end of 2012. Sprint's LTE network is currently being installed in the Los Angeles area by Alcatel Lucent.
The 4g was never an issue with me. I've had 4g since almost day 1. The only time I use it is for downloading large files. I can probably count on all my fingers and toes how many times that has happened. My 3g speeds are good; usually around 1-1.2 mb/s, and that is usually plenty fast.
Or I use wifi when available. Until they figure out a way to keep it from killing your battery, I probably won't use it very often.
If their work continues the way it is and on schedule I should have LTE by the end of the year..But personally I dont mind if I have to wait..Im in my truck 10 hours a day with a verizon 3G/4G LTE Hot Spot for work for my laptop and wifi needs.
Pre-ordered and waiting for release.

We never had wimax in Reno, so the 4g on my Evo 4g was pretty useless to me. With Sprint who knows if we will see lte before my new Evo 4g lte is up for upgrade.
When I got my og evo on release day the nice folks at the Sprint store said we would get 4g by the end of the year. So I am pretty skeptical whenever I here we will get something from Sprint.
I use my connection at home for my phone. My job takes me all over the state, so 3g is what I get most of the time for gps navigation. If LTE will be as fast as they say, I might just use it for internet at home. I live in Kansas City with a 4g tower 1/4 mile away. I get full bars 4g currently.

I'm pretty sure kc is already up and running with LTE

at home wifi.
3g when out and about.
never did use 4g much even though i had a tower around the corner. had to keep the phone plugged in or else batt would die. 4g tethering worked well when i had no internet, but dropped alot. Returned to 3g on my tethering occasions.
4g uses up too much battery to leave on and expect a signal around town, when the towers were rare.
hopefully i can leave LTE on and be accustomed to/get used to using instead of 3g.

I'm in the same boat, I used Wimax maybe once a month, just because if I actually had to download a large file, that's all I could do. The battery would be dead within an hour, hour and a half tops. The battery life with the lte chip being integrated is supposed to be phenomenal compared to what we we used to.
Luckily I live in one of the first wave cities, so I expect LTE to be available in some areas already as towers are already up in some areas once the phone comes out if not by the following month once they officially go live. I honestly just like most never really used 4g on my evos however the way it was implemented was flawed by default. radio on a different chip and not enough coverage so constant losing signal and swiching left battery life to be desirable. I expect with LTE it'll be different once the ball gets rolling. The radio is on the same dye as the soc so better battery by default. Sprint will have better LTE coverage than wimax so again that will help with battery life as you won't have to keep switching between the two. If you read the manual unlike verizon sprint has a toggle to disable LTE and only use evdo. I'm sure this will help people who don't live in LTE markets as well as those of us who want to get a little extra juice out of it. Based on the reviews of the AT&T One X though, battery life even with LTE on should still be pretty good.
I live in Miami and the LTE is very spotty, I don't have it at home; only used it to download big files anyways so I'm not worried about it. In the end it's a premium fee for a monster smartphone, very worth it. I would be really happy to get LTE, though, since my wifi at home is total crap :/ and it's not going to be as much of a battery hog as it was on the OG evo.

Most of you guys don't care about 4g.
But that's not a true, unless your smart phone using only in and out calls.
If using internet and WiFi tether you need a 4g to browser speed downloading, gaming etc... I'm not talking in your f*** home or work place only. You know how crappy is sprint 3g or tell me you are ambitious for new smart phone instead of what can make it a difference?
For me nothing this phone with out 4g lte .
Coz I use a lot internet and WiFi tether that's why I bought smart phone with gps capability, 8mp camera and so on
Please don't laying me Sprint 3g good enough.
I can say congrats for who has 4g lte by next month or early July.

There's the key there - for you. Many people will be ecstatic to have a phone with a bigger, more beautiful screen, more responsiveness, a way better camera, stock ICS, Sense 4.0 (maybe), better WiFi speeds (n capabilities), NFC capabilities, Google Wallet, the ability to take pictures while shooting movies, a nicer kickstand, a thinner profile (and lighter), better sound quality, a dedicated camera button, and better battery life (due to stock ICS, and efficient processor).
If none of those things are worth anything to you, I'd say you're in the minority here. I'll enjoy the heck out of this phone until LTE and HD voice arrive. Have fun with your phone.

I'm in the Austin, TX market and already Waco (part of the Austin market for Sprint purposes) has 4G LTE working...people posting 21Meg download speeds already. They are supposed to have the rest of the Austin market done by July (don't remember where I read it, but it makes sense).
Clear rolled out the WiMax 4G, but SPRINT is rolling this out, and they know they have to get it right because they are in stiff competition with Verizon and AT&T. Houston and Dallas are other Texas markets that will be in first wave, though I'm not sure if they are already up and running. I got my pre-order in today and I'm eager to get my hands on it.
And while many people do use the 4G, if you're in a building all day and not out on the roads, you probably didn't get much signal anyhow. With LTE, in-building signal is supposed to be much better, so when you're not able to get on WiFi, it will be nice. Can't wait!
Where are you finding this info? Let me know if you find stuff about the austin rollout. gonna be hard to give up full signal wimax at work for too long...

Basically my company is changing the way they do phones and we now have to get out own phone plan which they will reimburse us for. I'm currently on AT&T with the HOX and the only other phone I would consider is the EVO 4G LTE. Actually I would prefer to have the EVO to be honest but I'm mainly worried about data speeds. I'm in Atlanta and the LTE speeds on AT&T here are absolutely insane, average around 35-40Mbps down on speedtest, and they reach way outside of the actual city, which is a huge plus for me. I actually live about 50 miles north of the city and still get a strong LTE connection. I see that Atlanta is on the first wave of LTE roll-outs for Sprint but I'm worried about the 3G speeds I may have to be on a lot of the time. Can anyone in the metro Atlanta area comment on the 3G speeds around here? I don't know anyone on Sprint personally. The other plus for me switching to Sprint is the unlimited data. The AT&T company plan I'm on now has unlimited but that is going away and I'll have to start a completely new plan if I stay on AT&T.
Generally sprint 3g will be slower because we don't have hspa and most att does, sometimes sprint is faster but I haven't seen that since sprint list the Alltel towers

When I actually do switch from ATT LTE to HSPA/HSPA+ I still pull over 5Mbps down consistently, so I don't doubt that the 3G will be slower, just how much slower is the question. All the Sprint speed tests I see are always showing how bad it is but I don't know anyone in the Metro Atlanta area to give me actual results.
Sprint is horrible bad, make sure you get good info before jumping ship.

I can only suggest going to a store and running speedtests. I remember my old evo 3D pulled good data in the city

I just left VZW with the Galaxy Nexus to sprint and this phone. I am so happy I did. Dispute the huge dev community there this is a far better phone then the gnex. The network in my area for sprint used to be a laughing stock but they have came so far in two years its amazing.

Strange I have now been on all three of the big three and Sprint has A: the best plans for smartphone users and B: the best service in my area
rockin my EVO 4G LTE
Try it out - Get an EVO LTE and return it within 14 days
I am pretty sure that right now you can get at EVO LTE directly from Sprint with free activation. With the return policy, you could return it for a full refund for the phone within 14 days and only pay the prorated service charge.
So I suggest you try it out and get a new / temporary phone number from Sprint and then return it. That will give you a true real world experience of using the phone and its service.
I am in the Philly area and am hoping to see LTE by the end of the year. The service is OK in the area, but horrible in my house. To deal with that I use Roam Control to force roaming (which uses Verizon's towers) while at my house -works like a charm!
Good luck.
Sprint has the best plans but by far the worst/slowest network. It's a trade off..

I'm getting 1 mbps download on 3g Verizon was 200 kbps on 3g

I happened to be in the Atlanta airport the other day waiting for a connecting flight. My data speeds on the Evo 4G LTE were fast for 3G. I know it's the airport and may not include other areas, but it seemed great. The previous week I was in Orlando and had no data speeds at all. I called Sprint and their towers were being upgraded. I felt like a hand was cut off.
In Massachusetts where I live the data speeds are good.
Oh and as for that upgrade fee/activation fee of $36. I have bought all my phones at Best Buy and never paid the fee. Might want to go there.

I'm in ATL, and I would say my 3G is good most of the time. I live and work just outside I-285, and I've always had good service. Is it the fastest, no. Have I been able to do everything I needed to do, pretty much yes. Now I do work in a Corp high rise, and its surrounded by two other high rise buildings, so the signal does fade in/out at times. Also, there is no using Sprint cell phones in the elevator based on my 10+ year experience with Sprint. When I travel around the city, I get good service (data/voice) and GPS reception. I only run into problems when I'm in or around large buildings. As far as call signal/quality, no issues. I get a few dropped calls, but those are in the same dead spots. I do have roaming on... Those dropped calls are few and far between.
I just came back from a 4 day trip to Chicago. Sprint phones have always held up well for me on vacations out of town. I never rent a GPS, as the phone does everything I need. I used the EVO LTE for car, public transportation, & walking navigation (GOOGLE NAV/MAPS by the way). It performed exceptionally... Like I said b/f, the signal may fade if you're around large buildings, but that didn't hinder my travels. FYI - the battery held up well. I used the camera, video, and GPS non-stop. I will have to say the camera has grown on me. That thing is quite impressive. The burst mode is a beast. Very impressive now that I know how to use it. I used to have a color saturation problem, but that's long gone. Guess the camera got better over time & me actually learning how to use helped too. My portable charger (Tylt Powerplant) I purchased from Sprint held up will and did a great job of keeping me juiced. I was out all day using the phone on Auto brightness. Sun glare/reflection didn't bother the EVO at all.
OP - Hope all this information helps.

Recently left VZW for SPrint in order to drop my cost and pick up Unlimited data. Both the GF and I went with HTC EVO 4G LTE phones, as we were quite pleased with our HTC Rezounds on VZW.
Her phone is bone stock, mine is unlocked/rooted with S-On, running MeanROM 4.7
Both phones have HORRENDOUS 3G performance. 4G is still only in small pockets in Atlanta, but even down at my office, I am in front of a windo, have 4 or 5 bars on 3G, and I run Speedtest app and my pings range from 500ms-2300ms, my download speeds top at 400kbps, but are usually under 100kbps, and upload is typically around 200kbps...
That's with almost 6 bars of 3G. Been that way for 2 weeks, it almost makes the phone unusable for data. Tried the few mods I could find with my MSL number to bypass Sprint's slow proxy, lowered my LTE threshhold scan time from 30 to 5... Still blows.
Sprint 3G, at least in Atlanta, seems on par with 56k dial-up performance, all kidding aside.
is this normal?
I left VZW thinking that the grass was greener, and I think that I made a huge mistake, and it is after the 14 day return window. VZW was averaging 25mbit up and down, over the entire area, you could get signal almost everywhere in the metro area. And their 3G was at least around 1mbit or so,
Now I am getting almost no 4G, and Sprint's 3G is no faster than dial-up, even when in metro areas with strong signal.
Thoughts?

I get decent 3g in pittsburgh but its really terrible sometimes. If and when i get 4g i wont mind not getting crazy speeds because its unlimited. Thats the sacrifice you make with "The Hopefully Sometime In The Future Network™"
They recently upgraded my area and my service was better before ehrpd
So my suspicions are confirmed, I was an idiot to leave VZW. LOL
I am paying huge ETF's to get out of a high cell phone bill and get Unlimited Data, but the joke is on me, as it is easy to offer Unlimited Data when the network only let's you download at dial-up speeds. A 5mb app takes well over a minute to download, rather than the 1-2 seconds that I am used to...
Sigh....
They're upgrading your area now so what your seeing is the norm until local tower work is done.
Trips and stumbles dude.
So yeah, given the under construction status, it's normal.
Voice signal strength has nothing to do with 3g. Just because u have 6 bars doesn't mean you'll have good data signal.

I sometimes get 1 mb down @ 3 am. Just switch your job to 3rd shift and become a vampire man. It's not that hard. U wanted unlimited data and lower phone bill right? Steal WiFi, lol...
