Hi
I bought optimus one month back, i am really satisfied with the mobile.
My phone is rooted so the first thing i did is i removed Google search toolbar which is a stock app that is present at the homescreen at top.
So its been month and didn't use search button for anything, don't want it to be dormant.
problem with keyboard is that word doesn't start with capital letter after fullstop(.)
I didnt quite get your post. Where is the question?
M using autorotate screen switch on long press of search button
For capital letters problem set auto capitalisation from language and keyboard settings
Thanks

Hello there, kids - you gotta love 'em!
Its one of the east things to sort out (don't let her near your pattern lock!) go into you messaging app and in the text input box long press, you will get a popup and one should say 'Input Method' select this and then select either Android or Standard (or whatever other keyboard you are using).
Thx so much.

Thanks, was also having the same problem here. Dunno how i managed to do this without noticing, but problem solved.
Swype has always frustrated me, when you need to move forwards and backwards much in a text field, it is difficult to do with your finger and I could not find anything to help in swype.
All I had to do was hit the bottom left swype button and then slide to the symbol key right next to it. BAM, there it is. It's probably most helpful for copy and paste and some other situations where you just can't move the cursor with your finger.
Just an fyi, and also wondering if this was already common knowledge?

I wouldn't call it common knowledge, but it's been known for a while. I found out about it in a tips and tricks thread somewhere.
Also, try the same thing, but slide to "f" instead of "sym" to pull up a number pad

Are there more shortcuts?
-swype key then symbol key
-swype key then f
...more?

also, in 2.2, in text entry fields, if you tap the field a movable cursor shows up that you can slide left and right.
A lot of tips like these are in the General Sticky....
that said, I do not know if its a shortcut, but I love going from the apostrophe to "s".... I can type words like "what" and then with that gesture quickly make is "what's"
also, if "bump" from one letter to the next it helps swype identify the letter you are really going for (ie, you go across a row and there could be a few correct letters).
I take it that none of you had ever done the tutorial with swype on your phone...

Swype > F is the only one from this thread that is not on there.. and that is not all that much needed from using the other number pad.
Swype -> q switches it to AZERTY. It doesn't switch it back. Pretty useless.
These Swype shortcuts are all on the Swype website lol

To switch back, press and hold the top-left button (where Q used to be) and choose U.S. English. If you've picked Korean by accident, press and hold where the A button was to switch back to English.

True. And somewhere else on the Internet someone else is talking about every other thread on xda...
Just got my Galaxy S3 today and the first thing that is driving me nuts is the predictive text and word suggestions.
When I am typing I would like suggestions to appear in the bar but I don't want the phone to automatically change the words I am typing without my clicking on the word in the bar. I had this working on my Gingerbread ROM on my HD2 but I can't seem to get it to do this on the Galaxy S3. What setting am I missing here??

That's not what I am after. Doing that completely disables the suggested words bar. I want the suggested words bar but I don't want it to auto-complete or auto-correct my words as I type as it always gets things wrong. What I want is to suggest words in the bar as I am typing and if I see a word in the bar I want I will tap it. This is how it was on my Gingerbread ROM.

That's a completely idiotic comment. If you don't know then just say so.
This was functionality that existed on Gingerbread ROM default keyboard I had so its not hard to understand that it could well be there on the ICS GS3 ROM also.
Hi

+1 for SwiftKey, honestly it's better than the iPhone keyboard. Amazing and what it does.

Same problem here. If it suggests a word and you hit SPACEBAR, it will append that word. Horrible design.
I switched to Go keyboard for this reason alone.
Thanks guys. I'll give Swift Key 3 a try if its not possible to change the behaviour on the default Samsung one.

If you leave Predictive Text On, but instead go into Predictive Text settings and turn off everything in there, it will show suggestions at the top of the keyboard and not change what your typing

That sort of comment is what makes people not even deserve to have a computer, let alone a phone.
Hi guys,
I have looked online everywhere and cannot find anything! When on the internet and trying to move the cursor to edit text by clicking on the cursor, the keyboard disappears. Any solutions ? It doesnt happen in the address bar or while texting. Only when on an internet page and clicking on the cursor to move across to the text.

It didn't happen when I was with the orange stock rom as far as I remember. Doesnt happen to my cousin whose on the vodafone stock rom. Only happened when i reflashed with an unbranded official samsung rom. I cant find any fix on the internet!!!! Surely there must be something! Not worth spending money to buy the swift keyboard if it doesn't fix the issue. Very annoying!
This started happening to me as well in the stock browser after I updated to JB from ICS using the official update method, so I'm currently using Chrome or Opera instead until it's fixed...
hi,
i've been using the s3 for six month now and finally got all things the way i want (omega v34 rom with perseus kernel and jkay deluxe framework). except for two things i can't seem to find anywhere:
1. lock back and menu buttons option in the quick panel settings. every time i play something or giving the phone to someone else the back\menu button is accidentally triggered causing a "kill app" operation (long press back button to kill app mod is enabled). annoying!
2. in the contacts screen there is an option to scroll a-->z, i have contacts written in other languages and want to rearrange the scroll order and include letters that are in my language (hebrew).
are the two things i wrote already exist, and if not, from whom should i request it?
p.s i know the #2 issue is possible to solve in galaxy s2 with decompiling some apk's- if anybody knows a good guide for s3 it would be great too..
tnx in advance to the repliers!
you can request the first one in the JKay thread in original development. It's a nice idea
Or if you watching a video on YouTube and you can lock the keys with the lock button so that if i give it to my friend and back button is pressed accidentally so it won't kill our take you out of the video.
