I am currently working with AOSP 2.3 for the Mytouch4G, and everytime I repack framework-res.apk, I get FC's all over and strange graphics glitches (screenshots below). This happens even if I don't edit any files or add/remove anything. I could literally just unpack the regular framework-res.apk, repack it just the same, and still get this problem. I am using apktool to pack/unpack it, and I've tried on both windows and linux, it's the same thing either way. It also causes several programs to FC on opening, and I can't access half of my settings. Once again, this is even when I change/edit/add/remove NOTHING. Has anyone seen anything like this before, or does anyone know what I can do to resolve this? I can't really do too much work if I can't edit this file.

UPDATE: Nevermind, much easier just rebuilding from source with the edited files.
So guys as title says, is there a possibility to add this nice feature in power menu?
Actually i was looking for some similar threads, but my knowledge isn't so advanced to bring me to any success, and meanwhile I bricked my phone so..
Waiting for skilled people to post!
Galaxy S has the so-called extended power menu. Many you can goto that forum to check.
It should be possible, you would have to decompile services.jar, android.policy.jar, and framework-res.apk, probably with lge-res.apk as a dependency.

wat tools u use to do tht stuff?
there is tool called APK manager it can decompile apk files
i use a reboot apk for the meantime...
and yes, a Reboot option on the power menu would be nice, just like in Cyanogemod.
can't find the power menu dialog anywhere!
I have been spending hours tearing through virtually everything in the /system/framework folder. I pulled the whole folder to my computer and used baksmali to disassemble several of the .jar files, including framework.jar, services.jar, android.policies.jar and I unpacked the lge-res.apk and framework-res.apk and I can't find anything mentioning the dialog in the shutdown menu. I tried following another another thread but iI think it only applies to Cyanogen Mod ROMs which are radically different compared to the handful of ROMs available for the Optimus. If anyone who has knowledge of where to find this please let me know and I would be more than happy to use what knowledge of java I have to hack the power menu to include the reboot options that CM has.
EDIT
apparently I'm just a little bit dumb. I figured out how to decompile the framework-res.apk and then used notepad++ to make some edits in the xml files. I got as far as modding the framework to where it "should" have shown the new options in the power menu, but after recompiling and flashing the new framework-res to my phone it just soft bricked it. Nandroid recovered back to earlier today, and now it's back to the drawing board...
See LOL ROM dev
PaoloM70 was able to pull this off for his LOL rom see dev section. If someone is able to do it please post how to or files that I can pirate, er...incorporate, into my ROM. I would like to have it available on the vanilla theme for P509. All this home+vol down+power button sucks after a minute...G'luck

okay, so I followed all of the instructions in the other forum on how to add the reboot option (granted it's written for the Galaxy, but it should still work in theory) and I properly decompiled the framework-res.apk, edited the xml files and recompiled, signed, zipaligned, and used baksmali to decompile the framework.jar and android.policy.jar, made the necessary edits, double triple and quadruple checked all of my hex edits and such (using notepad++) and then recompiled the jar files.
I had to push the files to the sdcard, delete (rm) the originals and then cat the new ones over. reboot phone and...
hangs at the LG screen again. WTF?
Whitch ROM do you have?
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
Paolo of LOL rom posted the following in his thread. If this works is it possible to change just the files in framework folder package in a signed ROM/update and reflash without wipe? If so someone should make one for the default UI!

I want to change locales and images in system apk of CM 7.2.0 on my LG-P500. It is Contacts.apk and CMParts.apk. Decompiling and compiling passed without errors. Everything is ok! But!
When i put on phone already changed Contacts.apk upon transition to a tab of a dialer I receive an (android.process.acore Force Close!) And
When i put on phone already changed CMParts.apk upon transition to Interface/Notification Power Widget/Widget Buttons/Brightness modes I receive an (android.process.acore Force Close!).
Help me please...! I don't know that I do not so. Thanks!
(Sorry for my English)
Did you sign the apk?
I know that some people claim you don't need to sign system apps, but there are times when signing it is the only way to make it work.
Also, did you decompile and recompile with the appropriate framework-res.apk installed (the one from the rom you are using)?
Yes. I put signed and not signed apks. All the same too most. And when I try to decompile with dependences APK Manager writes that this application not the dependent.

Have you tried running a logcat to see what the issues are? That's what I always do when I get errors. Usually the logcat will tell you the error in a detailed enough manner that you can go back and fix the code.
Is this by any chance a stock rom? Because if its a stock rom, I've heard of people having issues sticking modified apks into a stock rom.
I have the same problem and would like very very much to know how to solve that ...
thanks
How to install framework?
Press Thanks on getting Helped by me
Is there any universal framework-res.apk that can be used trough apktool, to retrieve xml files? because I am confused, I don't want to install my app on any mobile device!! (just to play around with code) and everywhere people write about ROMs and getting the framework from my device, in order to get my apk to compile with apktool? WHAT?! believe me, i am doing my research but I just cant seem to find a connection between the needed framework.res, and some randomly downloaded camera.apk?
How am I supposed to find appropriate framework for any downloaded .apk from internet? is it possible? I have tried with obviously non appropriate framework-res, it gives me lots of errors, after -apktool d example.apkk. Again, I don't have intention of installing it on any device, yet. as I said before, I would like to get code, to learn from it and to play with it, xml is the issue now, because of this framework-res stuff!! While java non 100% code I have!
Thank you for your time

Greetings.
Thank you for using XDA Assist. I'm going to move this thread to your device's Q & A forum. You should get an expert response there.
Good luck!
