Hello,
I have been searching for an widget that will simply turn auto brightness to on or if I press it again will turn backlight completely off but I haven't found it.
There is already similar widget but it also sets backlight to max, which is really annoying to me!
Why I need this?
Whenever I turn on my Desire during night backlight is too strong for me when set to auto, so that is why I need this simple widget that will turn auto backlight on or on another press will simple turn backlight off
+1 for this.
I can't see a way to do it in AnyCut either. If anyone has been successful please let me know
Bump!
Anybody has little time to make this widget?
Now that the Power Control widget in Froyo includes auto-brightness in its cycle of brightnesses, is the apk floating around? Would be a nice addition for the po'folk who don't have (and probably won't get) Froyo.
Brightness Profiles
I got this app a couple of days ago... i think its just what you're looking for, its called Brightness Profiles.
you can either search it on android market or scan the QR code I've attached. hopefully it works:
Mippin Apps
Check out the Dimmer app from Mippin. They made a battery widget with quick toggles for gps/wifi/bt/display but this dimmer turns it down to 10(20 less than standard 0* of display settings). If you're looking for an automated time scheduler, check out timeriffic.

Thanks for suggesting Timeriffic. It doesn't do exactly what the OP requested but if the need is time based control of brightness it does a great job.
I have seen a huge battery savings with managing brightness carefully throughout the day. Is by far the number 1 cause of battery drain.
Anyone tried this app yet? It seems to be able to do... um... everything?! Ha! I am interested to see what custom profiles and tasks people have set up in theirs!

(it is £3.99 in the market for the full version)
Wow, I would have normally glazed right over this. For some reason I read the articles and this is pretty cool. I started thinking of a bunch of uses for it. I bought it outright. Thanks for the post, moonrock!
Welcome!
I noticed in the wiki or forum (somewhere!) that they were able to set up a profile that remapped the camera button -- I am wondering if this can be used to remap the power button while the camera app is open, maybe?
So I haven't had much time to play with Tasker, but the two scripts I have currently running:
* Silence from 11pm > 8am, simple, but it replaced the other 'profiles' type apps
* Disable screen rotation when in the Kindle app, for whatever reason this isn't an option in the Kindle app itself.
I have it set to turn on my Bluetooth when plugged in and off when unplugged works great!

Fantastic! I need to set up a (again, simple!) task that will turn on bluetooth in the times that I am always in my car (commute to work and home, same time every day) which won't be difficult.
I have Locale already, but this may replace it (gotta love paying for apps to find out another one does 10000x more things! oops!) I've had Locale since first getting my G1 though, so it's gotten plenty of use.
So glad you posted about this app... its amazing..

I have a couple tasks set up. First, I have gps automatically turn on and off when entering and exiting google maps. I also have one that lets me pick input style when I go into or leave remotedroid (swype's backspace doesn't work in it). And I have a couple apps that like to hang around after I close them, so I set them to be killed upon closing.
All in all it's a great app, well worth the $6.
Sent from my Vibrant using XDA app
Also worth noting is that it is £3.49 from the developer directly (paypal, via his website) and a larger % goes direct to him that way.
I have it setup for text to speech on SMS messages when my phone connects to my cars bluetooth.
I am trying to find a way to let my replay to said SMS with the voice to text feature or just ignore it. Anyone have any idea how to accomplish that?
Also think it would be cool to have it change my wallpaper based on the weather conditions in my area, but Im not sure how to go about doing that either.

Beautiful Widgets (paid app, couple bucks) and the (free) Beautiful Live Wallpaper. Uses the weather widget to make the wallpaper match the weather
Tasks that I've set up so far:
Silent / dim screen / timeout / alarm volume 7 while I am asleep (timed task)
Vibrate / auto brightness / timeout (slightly longer) while at work (timed task)
Bluetooth on while in my car (timed task -- specificlly during the hours of my work commute)
Load Vlingo when Bluetooth connects, Kill Vlingo when BT disconnects
GPS on when Maps, Navigation and Foursquare are opened
Display timeout (1hr) and brightness (max) when USB plugged in (for when i am in my car, typically listening to music and/or have vlingo up on the screen, annoying (and worthless) for the display to timeout if vlingo is supposed to be a one-touch process!)
Anyway of exporting a profile then importing it so some of the more advanced useres can create some and we can tweak them ?
Edit: Having hard time getting them to do what i want .
Probably, but I am not entirely sure how... lol
My initial use:
As previously mentioned on this board the bluetooth streaming volume is not the loudest, so I always end up turning up the volume for bluetooth. Then when I plugin my headphones I destroy my eardrums.
So I setup a task that when I connect to my bluetooth car stereo, it automatically sets the volume to max and turns off wifi for good measure.
I have another task that when I plugin headphones, it sets the volume to 60% and opens the doubletwist music player.
Finally I setup the standard battery task so that when my battery gets to 20% it turns of all the GPS, wifi, and bluetooth radios, as well as dimming my screen.

Ah, I keep meaning to setup the low battery task as well!
I have two keyboards i really like in 2 different orientations.
Droid X keyboard:
its sweet autocorrections and large real estate makes it ideal for two thumb typing in landscape
swype:
slower than droid X keyboard in landscape, but in portrait, this is possibly the fastest/most accurate keyboard around.
I tried to set it up so that i could change my keyboards depending on the orientation, but i could not figure it out
im also for an app that turns your screen off with a timer (in the background). and have that work when you turn your screen downward./
any with either of these would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone know how to make it so that the Incall volume goes up to max on the connect of the phone call? I cant seem to find it in the settings meeting seems to only answer on 3/4 volume. Thought Tasker might be able to .
This app is awesome. I only got a few tasks setup but one nice one is turning the screen timeout to 23hr when I open the web browser and back to 30 secs when I exit.

To export a profile tap the context (left) icon <profile<export. To import just open the file with Tasker as the chosen program I think. lots of premade tasks on the Tasker wiki. (it won't let me post a link)
This is really bugging me, is there a way to disable the browser brightness settings? Our can I make it synchronise with the main display brightness?
I don't use automatic brightness and rely on the switchpro widget on my home screen to adjust the display brightness on the fly. It's really annoying to see the monitor changing brightness when I switch between an app and the browser, or even going through the bookmarks page within the browser itself!!

The original Galaxy S and its variant all had this "feature". I HATE IT. 3rd party browsers are too clunky and bloated, but geez. Having to change the brightness TWICE every time I want to change it really blows.
It's not that nobody else has this issue, it's that (for some reason) nobody with the skill to fix it cares to do so.
count me in as 1 of the people that is tired of having a separate brightness control. I can set my brightness way down and in the middle of the night I turn on my browser and boom! a super bright light is in my face.
Frustrating.
Of course I have the issue as all others. But it doesn't make an impact as I always on Auto Brightness
Regards.
+1
Please has anyone had any luck with this. Keep trying others and ending back with stock. Just wish it used system brightness and that it let you close a window even if it was the only one.
Anyone had joy with either?
Thanks
Another one for 'Tasker' to solve
Download 'Tasker' from the market (£3.99 I think?)
You can then create a profile so whenever you open 'internet' tasker will set the screen brightness to a setting of your choice.
Simples
(believe me this is only the tip of the iceberg with what Tasker can do)
Tasker does not have a setting for Browser Brightness.
Hi thanks for the idea, but I have been trying to find a way to do this using Tasker without any luck. Tasker already controls my Screen brightness. Far better than Auto. But the Screen Brightness and Browser Bightness are two seperate settings. I can only get Tasker to adjust the Screen one.
Still if anyone has any ideas, please. It drives me nuts when I turn over at night to check something on the web, then get blinded by a full brightness broweser on a dimmed phone.
Hello Guys!!
Have anybody missed AUTO BRIGHTNESS feature in L9 because lack of Ambient Light Sensor,
If yes, the don't worry. I have an easy solution for Auto Brightness, Yes you can use Auto Brightness on LG Optimus L9:victory:
NO ROOT REQUIRED
Download and install These two app from following links:-
Lux Auto Brightness
Tasker
After Installing these apps follow these steps:-
Lux Auto Brightness:-
Go to Lux settings
Tap on Sample Collection
Tap on Select light reading source
Select Camera
Then get back to main settings menu
Tap on Mopdify linked samples
Tap on Luma TAB
Tap on ADD, set brightness (yello bar) to 4% Luma value to 1 and press ADD
Add 3 more links with these values= 35%-70|100%-80|50%-120|
Exit Lux
Tasker:
Open Tasker, tap on Plus Gign(+) on main screen
Tap on Event
Select Display in Event Category
Select Display On in Display Event
A blank screen will appear, do nothing just press BACK Button
TAP on New Task +
Enter Name to task or just tap on tick
A blank screen will Appear, tap on Plus Sign (+)
Select Plugin from action category
Select Lux Plug-in
Tap on Edit Button
Scroll Down and Tick in front of Refresh Backlight brightness? Under Force
Press Done, then press back and back again
Exit Tasker
Thats all work to do, now your dvice have Auto Brightness feature:silly:
To test, just press power button and lock the screen and then cover front camera with finger and press power button again, screen will Light up wait 1-2 seconds, Screen brightness will reduce, remove finger, lock unlock screen and brightness will resume to normal.
I have tested this for full day on my L9 and got no any battery drainage.
You can modify Linked Samples Values to your comfort zone for batter sample values you can also search other XDA forums.
Guys try it and let me know how you feel
if you got any issue please post, I'll try to solve it (Coz m also new to TASKER & LUX so may be it will take little bit time to Solve:fingers-crossed
EDIT: You can uncheck "Presistent notification" in general settings of Lux Auto Brightness, If you think it is draining your phone's battery. This will also disable the annoying Lux icon from notification.
HIT THANKS IF I DESERVE IT
Another mod we miss in our L9 just got fixed.
thanks for sharing
i'll try it as soon as i can and report back.
Is this battery hungry workaround ? Two apps must run in background so they must eat battery .
Is it possible to have a refresh .. for example every 10 minutes camera will check light to set brightness?
Found it's in lux settings!

No, I have tested this yesterday for full day and haven't noticed any battery drainage coz of these apps. According to me, besides draining battery this MOD should save battery by adjusting it according to Ambient Light.

Yes Mr.Brown, you can set automatic refresh in general settings, but I'll never suggest you use automatic mode, it could drain your phones battery.

Yes bleuwavem you are absolutely right, that's why I am using tasker to initiate refresh process on display on. If you use lux individually then it will slow down your phone and drain the battery. In my tutorial actually lux is not running in background (if it is running you can kill it). Tasker plug in triggers it to refresh the brightness. Coz i have used it for hole day and currently using, I have not face any issues with device performance. If anyone body faced any issue can post here i'll try to solve it.

in which condition you want set your brightness 40%. Like if you want to set brightness 40% in normal day light then, when you are in normal day light, go to Lux, tap on modify linked samples, tap on Luma. Here you will see Current Value: with some digits showing. Now here hold your phone in normal light and click on "tap to refresh". it will say reading for a second and then it will show you a value, mine was 118. Note that value. Now tap on add at the bottom. In "Add custom link" box, drag and adjust brightness (Yellow Bar) to 40% and in Luma enter value you have noted. then tap on Add. thats all, now your normal daylight brightness is 40%.
Try it:highfive:
My device works just wake mod only....i do not understand why need tasker app, works without
Noob Question: Why does a lux value of 120 set a brightness of 50% in the tutorial? I've set it to 100% for now till you reply.
Great solution OP! Also, why do we need tasker to force display brightness when there is a setting for adjust brightness on wake in the lux settings? Is it because it doesn't adjust it sometimes?
---------- Post added at 11:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:55 AM ----------
I've also noticed that direct sunlight throws the lux reading off....(lux value becomes lower in direct sunlight than in shade in the same area)

Yes bleuwave your right, I used Tasker for two reasons, first as you mentioned Lux's auto brightness Don't works some tims, so tasker force it to adjust. Second reason is this that using tasker you no need to keep lux app running in background, coz if we keep it running in backgroung it will slow down phone performance and drain it's battery. Using tasker you will never miss auto adjustment

i have set 50% Brightness with value of 120, coz 120 is normal day light reading, so in normal day light 50% brightness is good enough to see the screen. 50% brightness is also no drain battery.
Yes this behave of lux also amazed me. it shows light reading value 80 in direct sunlight, in shade it shows 120. But the settings i have done, are working like charm even in sunlight also. as per my observation reason of low reading value in direct sunlight may be auto brightness setting of front camera ....What do you think about this..
Thank you very much....now my phone has auto brightness

Hmm ... it is strange today Lux Auto stoped - it just don't work . And I must say that combo of those to programs eats battery ,maybe for the reason I have not stock kernel ?
5% per hour vs 2.4% per hour with out them running .

Yes sebx its strange, Stock kernel may be an issue for this. I will suggest you to change some settings in Lux, keep every thing disabled in Lux settings, because Tasker is enough capable to run its services automatically and keeping everything disable in lux will reduce battery consumption also, so change setting and try it again.
Hi,
I'm just letting everyone know that I have just pushed an update to my automation app MacroDroid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694335 to add Android Wear support.
You can read about the functionality on my blog post here: http://macro-droid.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/introducing-macrodroid-wear.html
This is a first release, so I strongly welcome all feedback and comments!
Cheers,
Jamie
Very impressive app ?, seriously quality app.
I need more time to test out all the different stuff in your app but so far everything works great whit my lg watch .
This is using 60mb of memory for the macrodroid process alone. Seems very high.
This is on a Moto G. Compared to Tasker which is running at the same time and only uses 12mb.
I have deleted all macrodroid profiles so it shouldn't have had anything running, but the memory use was still high.

You're right that does sound very high, I've got a bunch of macros configured and I'm at 19MB. Most likely you've hit a memory leak in the UI and the UI pages are still hanging around in memory. It can be hard to catch all cases as there are many many UI paths, but I'll certainly do some more memory profiling to see if I can spot anything naughty hanging around. If you kill the MacroDroid process and restart does the memory return to something sane for you?
Cheers,
Jamie
I killed the app and wiped the macros. Started again with only 1 simple low battery warning macro. It stayed at 15mb all day.
I just created a new location macro and it jumped to 38mb and stayed there.
I switched macrodroid off and restarted and it is now back to 17mb.

Great thanks for the info. I've just had to move to Google Maps V2 and changed a load of UI, so I'm guessing I've got a little bug in there where I'm not releasing something. Hopefully I can get this squashed for the next update.

I am trying to automate the screen intensity.
The worst thing about my Gear Live is battery live, if I am inside love to find a way to always have the screen minimum and the best I could do is have a manual macro to change the screen intensity.
I wonder if I can design a macro that every time the watch gets a notification the screen goes to 5, when it dims it goes back to 1.
Why not set the brightness to low when connected to WiFi and high when disconnected.
It should mean you always have a dim watch when indoors

You could do something like on every incoming notification (using the incoming notification trigger), you set the brightness high and have a sleep before next (e.g 30 seconds) and set the brightness low again. Not perfect but might be of some use.
What I really wanted to do was find a way so that I could configure the Always on screen setting via the action, but after digging down into the code I'm pretty certain this would only be possible on a rooted Android Wear device and I don't really want to go adding 'root only' features for Wear just yet. Hopefully Google will open up this API at some point because as you point out battery life is critical on these devices.

If I set the app to listen for notifications it looks like it will disable much more than I would like to be disabled.
Manage Accessibliity, MacroDroid
-air gesture, air view interaction control, assistant menu, multi window, direct pen input, palm motion, one-handed operation will all be turned off....
I always lost "Jess" my customer voice synthesizer
Some of these I will miss on my Note 3 but I am trying it,
Toggle on Notification
Android Wear set the brightness to 6
Sleep before next action 20 seconds
Android Wear set the brightness to 1
If it works right notifications will crank the display for 20 seconds and then dim the display (may cut it back to 10 or 5 seconds)
You know I like your app, tried the other macro app .... (can not remember its name)
Found it too complicated..... Thanks for the tip.

I've no idea why these should be turned off by enabling MacroDroids accessibility options, but I don't have any Samsung devices so I'm afraid I can't really look into it at the moment.

If the macro works may not care much about the disabled stuff.
May want to put constraint in, 5am do not need the watch display cranked.
