I was just attempting to root my thunderbolt and my computer crashed right after I finished the downgrade. What do I do next! I'm having a mild freak out right now, as this is my first attempt at rooting.. Any help would be appreciated.

No need to start over. Just pick up where you left off. The computer crashed, not the phone. Since you already downgraded, all you need to do is pick up in the directions where you left off. No damage has been done to your phone because your computer has nothing to do with flashing updates from the bootloader.

If you just finished the downgrade, check Settings->Applications->Development to make sure Debugging is on and fastboot is off.
Also make sure you are in htc sync mode
Sent from my rooted stock OTA MR2 Thunderbolt
when i rooted my phone on sunday, i had a random reboot of my phone as soon as the downgrade was loaded. After that, the phone would show as offline in adb.
What i did to remedy that was to turn "USB Debugging" off, wait, then turn it back on. Then check if it shows up as online. Repeat this process until it works.

I do not think that matters. I rooted my phone on charge only.

If it doesn't go right, make sure you start all the way over from the beginning. I don't know why, but this phone was a pain in the butt to get rooted. It took me a good six or seven tries before it finally worked for me.
Oh, also, for some reason you'll probably need to enable check "unknown sources" in applications before you'll be able to copy stuff to the SDcard. that freaked me out the first time I stumbled across this problem.

Yea, I've never used an "htc sync" mode since I bought it so not sure about that one.

It's pretty straight forward if you follow the step by step root guide instead of trying one of the scripts that have become oh so popular.
And I'm not sure about the "unknown sources" to copy to sdcard. The only reason you should need that is to actually install an apk that wasn't dl'ed through market.

For some reason after downgrading I wasn't getting the option to copy stuff to my SD card, i would charge but it wouldn't detect the connection.
I was following the guide.
The only reason I say put it in htc sync mode is because my phone shows offline unless it is in htc sync mode. Odd though.

Rooting problem also
I have tried and tried and tried to root my Thunderbolt. I have followed the guide on xda to a T. The problem is this, once you get to step 4 where you boot to the bootloader and try to get the PG05IMG.zip to load, it loads it[blue status bar] checks it[gold status bar] then back to the hboot bootloader screen. Also i should note that when i put the file on my sd card the md5sums match, but after the process in hboot bootloader, they don't match. Oh, and i have asked in the irc chatroom also, they tell me im doing it wrong. Should note also tried to pull the ota update and no go either. It downloads and fails everytime! Bought the phone off of craigslist so no warranty, just would like to root because the phone force closes every program i bring up on it and its frustrating me. Thanx Dra$tiK
Well for the force closing problem, just try to do a factory reset on the phone. As far as the ruu failing in hboot, it sounds like maybe the misc.img file you pushed didn't take. Try restarting the whole process over again, and also redownloading the downgrade.

How can I check to make sure that the file got pushed?
Is there an adb command I can try?
Also i have factory reset the phone 3 times from hboot.
Today however when i did reset it it went into a bootloop... thunderbolt screen constantly, was able to get it to the bootloader and all was well after that but still not rooted

Okay guys, I have an HTC Evo 3D CDMA that is somewhat unusable. All I did was root the phone and in a few days the phone just wouldn't start up. It gets stuck on the HTC logo. I've tried getting it into download mode to flash a new stock firmware (but it didn't want to), I've tried to put the .zip stock firmware file onto the sd card to "install zip from sd card", I've tried to put the update file on the sd card to install it through "hboot", and even factory resetting it, but it still would get stuck on the logo and fail to boot up. I've tried just about everything I can think of, or find on the internet. Any other suggestions or solutions?

Were you able to reflash a kernel or the stock ROM?
I couldn't flash ANYTHING. -_-
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I made the mistake of flashing one of the stock roms derived from RUU which was a big mistake since it flashed the hboot I no longer have revolutionary which lead me to not being able to fastboit anything. I can get the adb to.connect to the device while in recovery with system mounted. but that's pretty much it. If i install a custom ROM when I reboot revolutionary will see device but not ling enough to.root and install the drivers. Just setup your pc to use fastboot otherwise you might do the same thing I did. After two days of searching trying different things my fix was going and buying a new phone last night.

If you relocked your phone "fastboot oem lock" and installed a stock RUU, this should have brought your phone back to stock. This wasn't the case?

When you root your phone, never accept updates unless you unroot your phone and go back to stock. Are you on hboot 1.5? I would suggest finding a rom that you want to flash (I recommend Myn's warmtwopoint3 RLS1 Deodex). To do this go into fastboot USB and load the custom recovery in the folder you downloaded to root your phone "fastboot boot recovery.img" (recovery.img should be replaced with the name of the CWM***.img file in that folder. This will give you full access to write the kernal and install the rom). Your issue is only likely kernal related so unless you do what I just mentioned, you wont have access to write a new kernal.

Does it still show hboot 1.4? According to the instructions, after the PG86IMG.zip installs, you need to go into fastboot and type "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3"
I think your probably just doing something wrong. Pull your battery out, put it back in, hold down volume button and power to boot into bootloader. Explain to me what you see. You should see fastboot on the top and you should be able to press the power button to enter fastboot and when you plug in your phone it will show fastboot usb. If this isnt happening I'm very curious as to what is.

Hi everyone. The only reason why I wrote this status was because I rooted the phone for someone, and gave it back to them in working order. Then about a week later, they came back to me with that problem and I tried to fix it. But with no success as I stated above. They threatened to sue me or take me to small claims for this problem which i didn't even start. Talk about assholes. Anyways, they gave me the option of paying them 350 which is half of what they bought the phone for, or having me try to fix it. If I do fix it, no need to pay, but if I don't then I'd have to pay the full price which is 700. So I've decided to just pay them the 350 to shut their mouth, get my ass out of trouble, and get on with my life.
So yea, I guess I won't be needing this thread anymore. I really want to try fixing it to save me money, but I don't want to risk it. And yea, I know how much of an asshole they're being. But oh well, shows what kind of people they are.
Were you paid initially for services rendered, when first "working" on the phone? Did you make mention any guarantee/warranty for "work" performed? At any time was this person/persons aware of such forum/s which clearly express "do this at your own risk"?

Anytime your altering anything on anyone's phone always run them through the normal disclaimer. Make certain that they understand that you take ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSIBILITY for any damage that might be caused by what THEY want you to do. **** happens sometimes and and you gotta cover your ass. This is why every Rom, Radio/firmware updates, themes and guides have the same disclaimer.

Just read the OP again. You only rooted the phone, didn't install a custom ROM? Also, after rooting it, the person whom you rooted the phone came to you after a week, not a day or two? In that time frame who knows what they tried to do. Also, someone mentioned a kernel issue as the most likely culprit. Are you able to get into recovery, volume down + power/recovery? Can you get to the bootloader/HBOOT screen? If you get anything other than just the bootloader screen, you may still salvage it. Any progress?

Did you check the SD card for anything that you didn't put on there? Sounds like you were scammed to me. Give me half now or try to fix it and if you can't you have to pay me full. Something doesn't sound right with that. Sounds like they didn't want to give you enough time to dig to deep into the phone. Did you check to see if it was even the same phone? Did you charge them for this service originally? What was the reason why they wanted root access?

I don't remember what I did and didn't put on there. So I can't use that as a way to back myself up. And I honestly started thinking that it is a scam, but again, it is kind of is my fault for not taking extra precautionary measures to protect myself in the event that this thing happens. Yes, I did charge for the service. And they didn't say why they wanted it rooted. And even if they are scamming me, I'm just glad it happened sooner so that I could learn from it and prepare myself for the future. As for the money, I am bummed that I have to pay them, but God knows who's the better person and what kind of people they are so I'll let God deal with them.
I have the same issue, sort of. A friend brought me his Evo 3D for me to work on.
My friend 'rooted' his Evo3D through some steps up on youtube that claims root for the 1.5 hboot with S-ON. He then later DL Rom Manager and flashed the freEVO ROM. Now its only useful for WIFI, connected media/google talk/phone dialer/contacts do not work, they all say 'Could not launch the requested activity.'. I have tried factory resetting but it resets to the same issue, cant flash any other rom since there is no actual recovery.
Any ideas on how I can make this thing work

So I followed all the instructions for loading the latest leak. Even flashed it twice, now I am having some serious problems. I can't keep data for more than a few minutes after I reboot. It will show 4G then just go away. Says I have network but it just won't connect. Also seems to be burning through the battery. Oh yeah, it did not see my sim card after the first install when it was doing the first boot up
Any ideas what is going on?????

Yeah delete it. As a rule of thumb delete or rename as soon as u finish a update like that.

I would just keep the leaked RUU on the card and rename it to something so it won't try to reload it every time you reboot. That way, if something happens and you need to nuke the whole system, the file is already there.
kept the rename on my desktop. can drop it onto the SD quick if needed, thanks for the heads up

I always keep them named properly and just put them in a folder labeled waht they are. When I need to flash I just copy it to the root of the sd card.

You will need to downgrade with lgnpst to root. It is in topic at top of page on irc.
http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=lg-optimus-g
Yeah you will my bad also I don't know what i was thinking lol but I ran into that same problem and I restored back to like the day I got it and then rooted it and it worked just fine lol Some time's its just like that
Hop into the IRC to get the link to LGNPST so that you can downgrade. I think theres links in the other threads like the conversion, to get the link to the stock firmware. LGNPST is not hard to use, just make sure you have all the correct drivers installed and its quick and painless
I tried to rooting. But phone did not reboot, but it loses cell net.
I reboot it manually and phone now turns on screen for a half second and turns off. And I can not use it (unlock screen is not working).
I can run it in download mode. So what can I do? Download stock ROM and flash it? BTW, what app I need to flash stock ROM?

Updated: Thanks! Power+vol down almost a minute holdin resets data. Now phone is working normal.
Question: I also tried to root on E97011c and it got stuck after the restore part and nothing happened. Does this mean nothing was put on my phone? Is it possible it could become messed up now?
I don't remember accepting any ota but I'm rooted and unlocked and I am on software e90711c , I don't know if a ROM changed it or what, but I followed the guide and used the free gee app on play store to unlock boot loader. Not sure if this helps in anyway, but like I said I managed to do it and don't recall accepting any ota.

I had to reset mine to stock, relock it and return it on warranty, apparently there is a known issue with the sim card slot or tray or something. On my third now, debating whether to unlock and try again. No matter what I flashed on it, RUU, stock roms, anything, I couldn't get it back working right. Always had the roaming. New sim card didn't work either.
So your gonna have to do some work to get it back to stock and proper relocked, and then request a new phone from verizon.
I'm screwed I bought it from a friend

I to have the triangle
Are their any current threads on how to ruu back to stock?
I also have the triangle and was told flashing back to stock would fix it I guess we'll see lol
The thing is I get the triangle but I got it back today by messing around with the sim card.. IMO this seems like an issue with the sim slot.. If u go back to stock let me know how that goes.. As of now I have 3g but no 4g and honestly I haven't had 4g on this phone since I got it 3 days ago
Edit... Just replaced my sim .. Good to go now make sure u try that b4 giving up

I've tried replacing my sim with no luck. Is there a step by step guide to return to s-on with the moonshine method?
Ruu back to stock, I had the same issue and had to do this to get it working again. You do NOT need to go back to s-on to run the ruu, but you do need to be running the stock hboot, so if you are on eng hboot make sure you flash back. .torrented has links in his signature for the ruu and the hboot

How exactly is this an issue? Seems more like a cosmetic thing. Plus, your carrier could be renting towers from another carrier causing the phone to think it is roaming while it actually is not.

I don't think this has anything to do with renting towers. The same thing happened to me while I was flashing the GPE rom for the DNA. I spent two days trying to revert back to s-on and stock out of the box. Finally figured out how to do it. Next I took the ota and the triangle disappeared and showed 4G LTE.
It means your are stuck in roaming. You'll have to adb install stock hboot. Run the RUU. Let it boot. Once that's installed, you'll have to go into hboot and do a factory reset. After that, get the two OTA's. Then install custom recovery and your back in business. I've done it three times that I remember, maybe more, with success. If the first time factory reset don't work, so it again. Promise it will work. You don't have to lock or relock...

I have the 'triangle' problem on a moonshine s-off DNA, but ADB doesn't recognize the phone, I only get "list of devices attached" and blank. It will connect in fastboot, but I've tried 3 computers, multiple usb ports, installing and updating drivers, etc. The device shows up in windows attached by usb and I can drag and drop files- any ideas? I am NOT a programmer by the way, so have been trying to rely on step by steps. Is there a way to fix it without adb? I guess even if I have to go back to box stock that will be better than no phone!
Also, the other things I've read do say you have to lock the bootloader in order to flash the stock hboot and run the RUU.
Thanks in advance-

Planedoc, thanks for that, nogo however...when I tried to manually install those I got a Windows (7) error message saying "The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64 based systems."
I did try to install Koush's universal drivers as well via the exe he provided, and it still didn't recognize the phone in ADB, and then every time I plug the phone in it tries to install it's own drivers again, currently the DNA is showing up in device manager with device name: HTC6435LVW, Device type ortable devices, Location: Port_#0004.Hub_#0005, and driver files \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\WinUSB.sys and \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\WUDFRd.sys
Maybe I'll try my wifes macbook tonight and see if it shows up there.
So as you all know the sense 5 update just came out today, which is great! Except for me... I've tried installing the update 2 times and it downloads perfectly fine. Then I click install now and it boots into recovery. It says "installing updates from Verizon wireless" or something like that. It gets half way through the bar and then quits out and goes to the little picture of a phone and the red triangle with the exclamation point in it right above the little phone. I have tried waiting to see if anything happens and then phone just shuts down and reboots into sense 4+. I am running stock recovery(just flashed back from twrp using .torrented's recovery) and I am moonshined. Any help would be appreciated very much.

Another update. Just found out that after I updated it to the 2.08 kernel I lost my root. Yet my hboot still says tampered and unlocked. I'm assuming flashing the stock hboot will fix?

I think error 410 means something it's looking for is missing, could be the modified hboot. Try the stock hboot.
Use this to flash the stock hboot then go back into recovery and see if the update finishes the install.

I am also having trouble updating. I was on a sense 5 ROM, then recovered to my stock ROM once I heard the update was out. I did all of the OTA updates, and the final one caused my phone to freeze at the HTC loading screen when the phone is turning on. Can someone help?

I'm pretty sure I have the newest SDK, and I could just install the drivers from that DROID DNA toolbox right?

I believe you can, I'm not sure if the drivers in that app are the most current but it won't hurt to try.
Do you have USB debugging on? Also try a different USB port and/or USB cord.

I tried that. For some reason the drivers don't seem to be installing. The thing is it recognizes my phone when im in android but not when I am in hboot
Use fast boot instead.
I'm sorry that's what I meant. In the toolbox I go to flash hboot, base 2.06, and then it says waiting for device. Flashboot USB shows up on my phone, but it says Windows was unable to recognize device because it malfunctioned the last time it was plugged in.
Restart the computer.
I have multiple times.. this is extremely frustrating
What is your computer's OS?
Windows 8.1
Those have been troublesome. Is that the same computer you used to s-off?
Try a Windows 7 computer.
Yes this is the same computer I used to get S-off. Just connected to a different computer (still windows 8) and I still got the message "USB device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."
