Just wondering what software you experienced themer's / modders use for working your magic.
Speaking specifically about your drawing / animation type programs.
Example, bootanimations, do you create the animation in something like after effects first, draw 100 pics individually, etc.
Themes, photoshop, paint.net, illustrator, etc.
Asking because if I want to start learning this, dont want to waste my time learning a program that might be harder.
For example would after effects, be a viable product to create bootanimations with?
Just wanted some input from those doing it and doing a great job,
Gadget, mcluvn, zhp pilot, retrokid, you guys post some great stuff, what do you all use.
Thanks?

hey first of all thanks to all the experts for giving us wm6.5 for Gene.
My idea :
To actually have all the menus, scrollbar, default program backgrounds, the dropdown menu(the 1 on which we click when in File-explorer to jump from My Device to Storage Card),the Contacts Background, the Messaging Background..etc.
All of them transparent like Glass..This is just a Personal thought as in to change the feel n look of the OS.
WM6.5 all ready has titanium with the kind of glass panels m talking about.
Due to which it enhances the Wallpaper used i mean u can use almost any wallpaper.
And about the Visibility issue which will occur in almost everyone's mind after reading this post i think we can make it translucent the same way it becomes in wm 6.5 when we click on start menu..the icons r very much visible even with a completely white background.
So i think the backgrounds in the programs like file-explorer,windows media player-library,my pictures,SMS,Contacts etc. can be made the same.
I Wish some expert graphic designers and Programmers make my imagination come true and give all us Windows users a completely new interface.
I think for this .pngs & .jpgs of the system will have to be altered or replaced with the new ones and program them accordingly.
I am not at all good at programming and neither Graphics and i dont even know whether my idea can actually be implemented or no?
Actually this idea must be shared from themes section.
hey i dont know i had put the same post in Development and hacking section now the post has disappeared suddenly..:-(
sure yaar...im waiting for the same thing?
i don know no1 from the developement section has replied to my post...i got the inspiration from wm 6.5 titanium which is packed in the new wm6.5 ROM..so if this can be made possible then we will have a great UI much much bettr than an Iphone also..coz there r N number of things which a WindowsMobile can do but an Iphone cant.
The only plus for an Iphone is its Screen which has now been compited by Touch HD and the GUI which we can improve if my idea can be implemented.
I myself m tryin2 learn programming and designing..but that will take double the efforts and time experts would take2 implement.
I wanted to know if there is a program that can do what you guys are talking about. I would like to make my own themes with themes made by other people. If the is no program then where would one start. Thx in advanced.
Ok I don't want to piss people off but how can I make a theme. Where do I start, is there a program to help you make themes instead of copying off of people. That's what I really like to know.
What mind of theme are you talking about? There are different methods for different types of themes.
I think u just need Photoshop and u have to edit the images then repack them to the zip for install just be sure u don't lose where the icons are placed and don't rename them... I think.... but I have no idea "/
CM7 wtf else....
Well I'm talking about themes poeple make that are in android market. I dont know what type of themes they are. Forgive me I'm new to android, I had a iPhone 4 and used winspc to change themes other people made on cydia.
Now do you just got to only use Photoshop cuz I use gimp is it the same.
You can use any image editing software. Read this thread. It pertains to the same thing that you are trying to do. You will use almost the exact same process to edit themes made by others.
Like the previous posters have mentioned, Photoshop or Gimp photo editor which is free would be your best bet, if you wanna make your own designs... If you want to theme your home screen using other people's work visit this thread, might help you out a bit.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901649
It also has an instruction on how to change the icons after you make the design
Good luck!
If you use anything that is not yours, ask first. A lot of time goes into making a theme (even a not-so-good one) and I've seen too many people just say "credit goes to blah blah" but never asking. Please be considerate of the work of others.
As for actual theming it all depends on what you are theming. Some apps (launchers and widgets mainly) have built in theme functionality and should have a guide specific for them. Theming a ROM is a lot more time intensive and involves decompiling frameworks, setting up development tools, dealing with many possible problems, hoping compiling works, being frustrated about forgetting something, testing, etc. etc.
good info was looking for something very similar
Is making a them for a stock MT4G that uses the theme installer different than those made for custom ROMs?
It seems the androidian theme is the only one that can be installed and used on a stock MT4G. I'd love to see that exact theme with the green replaced by a dark gray.
Hello everyone,
I will appreciate and will be very thankful for your thoughts concerning the following-
I am an animator with zero android programing knowledge.
I was thinking about creating and selling (on the android market) unique animations that are meant to be customized as a lockscreen.
As I do not really familiar with the programing world, I was wondering if there is a way/place/platform where I will be able to provide such animations so people will be able to buy and customize them within an already built app that enables such customization option( and even better, for other options as well, like- live wallpapers, splash animations, boot animations etc')
While looking on the web, I came across with people who sell lockscreen themes that are built upon "known" apps that enable lockscreen customization, but as I am new to this world I do not know how to do such thing as well as how to sell such app/themes.
As I only create animations(I export them as video files and able to convert them to any format necessary), I will be very happy to know if there is a simple solution to the above without the need to deal with programing but to still be able to somehow offer my work on the android market (or in other ways)
Thank you, in advanced, for any advice that might solve that challenge.
Kind regards,
I.
I love Tasker... and I bang heads with it also. Currently, it is the Scenes section.
I had the idea that it would just be easier to put up a WebView scene, or HTML Popup, and make the 'app' using HTML/JS/CSS.
But I want to hit the ground running, and use some open templates to get going quickly.
So, I'm looking for:
HTML templates/examples aimed at Android/mobile screens.
Useful Javascript, especially Tasker integration stuff.
CSS for theming the whole thang. (Plain, iPhone, Light ICS, Dark ICS, Custom, etc.)
For the previous, how 'bout a theme settings control panel? (colors, shapes, and so forth)
I figure it could make for some quick and awesome apps that auto-scale/change for any screen size, phone or tablet.
Duh.
OK... Does someone has a jQueryMobile-for-Tasker plug-in/extension/build?
Disturbing question in a dev forum, I know. But I have to try it at least.
Okay, I'm a graphic designer with no knowledge in coding apps. I am able to customize CSS-code to some degree, but maybe that's not relevant.
All I want to do is to make MANY nice icons (which is enough work for my taste), bundle them into one package that is compatible with Nova, Apex, etc., and upload it in Play Store.
Any tools out there that are helpful and easy to use? Preconfigured templates with an UI, maybe?
Or would it be just a waste of time?
Thanks for any advice.

Eclipse, with the Android SDK and plugins will give you just about everything you need to create an icon pack (except the necessary artistic ability :silly: ).
