[Q] Check for author/developer any app - possible? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It appears to me that there isn't a way to definitively find out the author/developer of any given app.
Is this right? I mean I would've thought there would be some standardization in metadata for apps, so that it wouldn't be so difficult to discover the provenance of any given app.
I have seen in this forum that often times, it isn't even obvious that an app might be written by Samsung, and we aren't even sure what each app does.
The SGS2 is my first experience with Android, and it's surprising that we have this problem.

In your picture, the first email icon is the stock app and the second one is the stock email widget... Nothing to do with Russia

Usually you can tell if the app is part of Android OS or made by Samsung by the package name and where the package is located.
The first app is com.android.email (located at /system/app/Email.apk) whilst the second app is com.sec.android.widgetapp.emailwidget (located at /system/app/EmailWidget.apk).

AppBrain, SocialHub, Russia-only update?!?! (see attached screenshot)
Ah, here's the place that I saw that Russia-specificity.
Is this AppBrain's mistake?
What does SocialHub has to do with Russia?

Well the description says "for MTS subscribers"... MTS is a Russian mobile operator. So it's an update for people on that network.

New market app. Some apps in german?

I downloaded an apk for the new market app, and since installing this, I've noticed quite a few app descriptions are in german; an example of this is the game order and chaos, does this have a german description for everyone else? Anyone else had this problem after manually installing the new market app and have a fix?

No fix reported .

I've gone back to the stock market app now and descriptions are now in english.

that's the one thing my GF is always *****ing about since I got her to finally ditch her iPhone and get a SGS2, most descriptions in the market are in english only and there is no way to determine if the game itself is german. I have to agree with her on that, I myself am sometimes annoyed by the lack of information provided on the market.
I noticed the same thing on mine with the new market and also got some russian thrown in for good as well!
Maybe they are testing it on different languages on a random basis when it pulls down the information from the internet?

[Q] no Google plus app in the app store?

hi all and thanks for reading. I can't seem to locate ther Google plus app. am I doing something weong

thanks! much appreciated.
why can't we see certain apps like this and Netflix on the app store?
If you where able to click the link, and the market displayed the application, then it means you probably overlooked it during your search. As for netflix the new update wouldn't show for me either.

By default, it will not show up because it needs fine-grained GPS.. which the Nook Color does not have.

No, you are not doing anything wrong. Google has chosen to enforce device requirements on the app, so now it won't list from the market on an unsupported device.
Accessing from the web browser, you'll see the following:
"This app is incompatible with your Bn NookColor" Note: if you renamed your device, it may not show the same device name, but it's the same result.
Same with Netflix and other apps you can't get on the device. However, if you'd downloaded the APK before this, you can still see it on your market. However, I've not received any new updates, so either no updates or it won't update if not available for the device in question.

I have G+ on both my Droid X and NC (I just made a backup of the .apk on the DX using "My Backup Pro" and moved it to the NC). I have not seen an update on my DX since 1.0.2, so I don't believe there has been an update in a couple weeks.

Let new market show all apps available

Hi folks,
Is there any way to let the new market (3.1.3) show all apps instead of those which are qvga specified? There are some dutch apps here that I really want but the market doesnt show em (I dont want to google every single apk and look for updates my self instead of market taking care of it)
Thanks in advance
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
I was wondering the same thing! I also come from the Netherlands... But it would be awesome to have the "Autoweek" app! That app doesn't support our resolution and is nowhere to be found as a loose apk-file...
Download MarketEnabler app
I dont think you can, Downgrade your market and used the patched market.
I'm using MarketEnabler to fake my location in USA as T-Mobile user. I can see and download apps I wouln't normally have access to, including the Autoweek app.
I did this to and id had no effect. Couldn't find Autoweek App. Autoweek rittenregistratie was beein' found, but i ment another app
Is it a paid app?
Because some Mobile Service Providers still have some problems with Google Android Market showing non-free apps.
Also, did you set up your location to some different country using MarketEnabler?
I did set the market enabler to USA - Tmobile and it didnt find the app. It is a free app though...
Can't just someone download the app and post it here

[Q] looking for help

i would like to download and app from the market but it says not available in your country.
can someone help me by uploading it here or via pm or email. if its free of course i don't know if it is or not cause it wont let me get that far.
the app is called clipfish. its a german app i believe. id like to listen and watch to music and videos from another country and this app seems right up my Alley.
if anyone could help that'd be great!
I'm not sure but if copyright of this App is ON maybe you can't install it, anyway search for "MarketEnabler" application in the market. (I can't post link's because I'm new and I need at least 8 post's)
I personally never try it but i read a good stuff for it.
I found it when i search for a same problem with my app in the market, but my issue was that it was filtered for the developer device and i didn't check it.

Nope it didn't work. But I see market enabler being useful in the future. Thanks for that!

Just read the comments for that enabler app. Some people are saying that it doesn't work with market v3.2 which is what I'm using. So I'll wait and see if it gets updated.

Is the app perhaps available on other markets? I know AndroidPit and AndroidTapp are both making their own, there was another one too, they are springing up all over the place.
What app is it out of interest?
All the best,
Ash

I am rooted. It still doesn't work for me. I've tried to use it in as many variations as I can think.
I'm thinking since it is a German app for German music, videos, etc. That its all copyrighted specifically to Germany. Which makes me sad.

[Q] Where does this add come from?!

ok, i had them before, but then they went away and now i got these green + with advertisements in my notifications again. Not sure what app they are coming from, does anyone know? Thanks in advance.
Check what dev makes that app advertised, and then see if you got an app made by the same dev.

good idea, i just checked and saw no connection... however i did finally take the time to read the "opt out" and went to the web page on my PC to be removed from the list. Time will tell if this works or not. Thanks
Thats the new way to advertise because of apps to block ads. I found the app bartender and some live wallpapers have these tied into them

There is a free app called addons detector that will tell you if any apps in your phone use push messages (that is what that is) and remove the apps that do if you want.
Thank you I found one myself had same problem.
