In case someone wants to use it on stock 2.2 which does not come with tun.ko module,
use the one from steve's 1.9 rom and it will work like a charm.
Put tun.ko in /system/lib/modules, inmod tun.ko from a terminal and you are good to go (check with lsmod).

Note, need to reload after a reboot.

Hmm...I tried this, no problem downloading tun.ko, copying to /system/lib/modules and doing insmod, verified w/ lsmod.
But, when I run the AnyConnect client, I get:
Could not connect to server. Please verify internet connectivity and server address.
Any thoughts or ideas?

PS This is the same error I got before I downloaded and insmoded tun.ko.
PPS Yes, I have internet connectivity, and I've double checked and triple checked the server address.
Found this post via Google search. Just realized it's in the Dell Streak forum. I'm actually on a Motorola Atrix.
Sorry about that...

I installed 1.6.1 on my Streak. tun.ko now comes with it and I can actually use insmod to register/test it. But VPN Client when establishing connection, just keeps trying to connect and never completes the connection.
Any help would be appreciated. Any bone is worth chasing after.
Cheers.

Are you using the vpnc gui client? If so, you need to make sure the route and ifconfig commands are working properly at the command line. I have found that the toolbox route and ifconfig don't work correctly for this client so I remove them and then make sure I have links for busybox route and ifconfig. HTH.

Can you Please post Questions in the Q&A Forum next time Please
Moving to Q&A
Yes, I am using VPNC gui (vpnc from code.google.com). But my prob is more elementary such as
if I run insmod /system/lib/modules/tun.ko, I get an {Error Execution}.
Resolved
For everyone's info, I got the problem solved. There is some kind of incompatibility between VPNC and Busybox 1.17.2. I had to downgrade to 1.17.1 and the problem has resolved.
So, in doing a few searches (I read the instructions here, yes), I came across a wonderful idea of a tool called CIFS, and even across an old thread that talks about making it work for the X10... on the old 1.6 roms.
Unfortunately, the FreeX10 2.2 that I'm using doesn't like the module, and I was wondering if anyone knows of either (a) an updated module that works on 2.2, or (b) another way to mount my network shares from my desktop (Win 7 Pro x64, but can be anything with my VMWare if need be) on my X10.
Any ideas from the wonderful folks of the XDA X10 Forums ?

You could just install ES File Explorer from the market. I use it to connect to the shares on my home PC and to the Network shares at work.
Astro (Also available in the market) has a SMB module as well to connect to shares but I was never able to make it work for me.
Edit: In a pinch you could also setup a FTP server on your pc and use an app like "And FTP" to connect and transfer files, or if you want to do it from the PC you could install "SwiFTP" on the phone, setup the FTP server on your phone and connect to it from your pc.
Thanks for the update. I will give ES a try. I have SSHDroid on my phone already and can WinSCP file from the PC if needed, but when I am roaming the house, it is better to not have to go back to the computer.

Looking for some help with the Cisco Anyconnect Client…
With TW the Client now loads and runs on the 10.1.
The issues are I can’t get the client to see the certificates. I installed the certificates through the Settings Location and Security tab.
According to the guide I should be able to see and select the certificates on the Anyconnect setup screen. I don’t see any certificates.
Does anyone have an idea on how to install the certificates so the client will recognize them?

Are you using an european 3G model?
Is the Anyconnect for rooted devices or just the samsung standard?
I installed the Anyconnect rooted version and I get the same screenshot. For my corporate network the certificate must be "automatic" but then I don't see any way to set the usergroup and password...
Cisco states that a tun.ko module is required

Silly question, but just to be sure, did you purchase and install the AnyConnect Mobile license on your ASA? You must have that for this to work.
We have it working in our office, no issues.

Thank you in advance
I verified my version.
I have a 10.1 3G model launched in Italy on 7th july.
I have the cisco AnyConnect Mobile license on my ASA.
My colleagues daily connects with their ipad
I have the famous TW interface but the Cisco client doesn't work.
The anyconnect client for samsung devices doesn't install.
The anyconnct client for rooted android clients installs but then lacks of the tun.co module.
Could you explain which version did you manage to install?
Thank you indeed
I have the US WiFi Only 16GB White Model. My tab is rooted and I have installed the Samsung version, not the root version of the app.
I'm going crazy with this application.
My tab is rooted (odin) and the client simply don't install

Yesterday I got same problem.
I just found this info in CISCO support:
"Rooting your device could void your device warranty. We do not support rooted devices, nor do we provide instructions to root your device. If you choose to root your device, you do so at your own risk.
The AnyConnect client download for Samsung does not work on rooted devices; you must use the rooted version of AnyConnect on rooted devices."
So as I understand if I rooted my stock GT then "Samsung (< SEP2011) AnyConnect" wount even install. and i need to use "Rooted AnyConnect" version...
AND ...
"Both a tun.ko module and IP tables are required. AnyConnect displays an error message informing you about what is missing when you attempt to establish a VPN. If the tun.ko module is missing, obtain or build it for your corresponding device kernel and place it in the /data/local/kernel_modules/ directory."
here is smth about tun.ko http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205353

Don't mean to resurrect a two month old thread, but Samsung AnyConnect DOES work on some rooted devices. I have it working on my Galaxy SII E4GT. I also have a GTab10.1 LTE, but it is still currently unsupported by the Samsung AnyConnect. :-(

Sorry for such a late answer but I too faced this issue. This is the solution:
Post #12. https://communities.cisco.com/message/76480#76480
I couldn't use Opera to open the link instead I chose HMTL Viewer in the list showing when I clicked the link. AnyConnect launches and it asks if you want to import the certificate.
I am using the Rooted AnyConnect version on my P7500.
Anyone get the Cisco anyconnect to install/work on a non-rooted SG tab10.1?
Hi all, I'm trying to get OpenVPN working on my SGS2 - connecting to a WRT54G router running DD-WRT (with OpenVPN).
This is my first Android device and I previously had the same tunnel working on my Nokia N900 before I dropped it and killed the touchscreen.
So the phone is rooted using this kernel here. I've added OpenVPN Installer, OpenVPN Settings and Busybox, copied some keys and created a config file. The settings app says that it connects fine but I don't appear to have a tunnel.
Firstly, I appreciate I may need a tun.ko module seeing as I've not added one. How do i check if I've already got one?
Many thanks in advance
Solved it with the zip from this thread.
I'd read that before but hadn't realised it was going to work for me. Got nowhere with the tun module as modprobe was showing nothing. lsmod is still showing nothing even with the tunnel up and running!
At least it works!
Hi!
I have tried SSHDroid, QuickSSHD and also Dropbear directly from the command line with logging to STD_ERR, but I am not able to connect to my GalaxyTab 10.1. Using nmap from WinXP I see the port, but it is filtered:
PORT STATE SERVICE
22/tcp filtered ssh
Using netstat on the tab shows that the connection has begun, but it stops with syn_recv and never get established. Using DropBear with logging it seems like no traffic is passed on to the server as no new log appears at the connection moment (or later).
The problem occured after rooting the device and has been persistent even though I have changed back to stock ROM and manager. Now I am using "recovery-cwm_4.0.0.4-sam-tab-10.1.tar.md5" and "Task650&Phantom_V5_Final.zip".
Using netcat I am able to send traffic both ways on the same ports.
I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this as I have I feel lost without SSH
BR,
Henrik
It works okay for me with stock rom, rooted and SSHDroid. Set the superuser to grant automatic root permissions. Launch the SSHDroid and set - require wifi and password to yes.Check the port and make sure its 22 in the SSHDroid settings. Then start the server, you should see a confirmation saying the process is listening in port 22. You would also see a prompt stating the SSHDroid has been granted SU permissions. LEt me know if this helps!
SOLVED
Thanks for suggestions mango1122! I have for sure tried all those things too many times already But I got a breakthrough today by using the Overcome ROM and kernel (see galaxytabhacks).
Using this ROM, SSHDroid worked out of the box. I have unfortunately no clue why this works, but what made me try this ROM was this comment:
"For Custom roms: Be aware, I’ve put the wifi module right in the ramdisk (which is where it is on 10.1 stock). Please move over the modules folder in /system/lib prior to flashing, if this applies to you."
BR,
Henrik
Solved...again...
Update...had to take a long break as it didn't work when I got home from work that day in Nov...it was my home router that caused the problem, I guess combined with something in the Dropbear/SSHDroid application for Android 3.0 as there is no problem using SSHDroid on my smartphone with Android 2.3.3 on the same router. I assume it has something to do with the fact that it listens on tcp6?
Using another router solved the problem.

Henrik
