So I got my Thunderbolt a while ago and finally decided to root it. I first flashed the CM7 ROM and really liked it except for the fact that I couldn't get the GPS to work. I would really like that feature so I decided to try a different ROM. I flashed the BAMF 3.0 stripped ROM and really liked it, but I couldn't get the data to work. I tried installing the MR2 and MR2.5 radios and nothing seemed to fix it. Ended up installing Liquid Gingersense and still no data. Am I doing something wrong on whole or does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
Did you happen to take out the battery during the process of switching things around? The battery cover not being completely snapped in with cause the problem with data. I also hear ppl say that if they go into the LTE settings and switching the network type to something else like LTE mode and then back to CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto fixes the problem.
I guess I did end up pulling the battery a couple times through the whole process but I think I've got the cover back on all the way. Why would this cause a problem? Is part of an antenna or something on the cover?
Also I have tried multiple times switching to all the different options between CDMA auto, CDMA only, EvDo only, CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto and LTE mode and I never get anything better than cell service. Never any data.
Yea the battery cover completes a connection for the antenna used for data. Its the weirdest thing but its a common cause for data loss with people.
Hmmm, crazy, I do see it now. You know that may have been part of my problem last night. There was a point that I had the battery cover off for a while I guess. But wouldn't it be fixed as soon as I put the cover back on? I'm still not getting anything now?
Doing a restart after replacing the cover might speed up the phone finding a data signal again but if that doesnt work it might not be the issue. I looked at the Gingersense's page and notice that the radio he recommends is the official 2.0 radio which is the newest one we have. I dont know that not having that would cause a problem but you could give flashing that a shot to see if it gets you data.

Just Saturday, my data be it 3g or WiFi was fine, running smooth, I was gettin 10+ Mbps down and 1.15ish up on wifi/4-5Mbps down and .8-.9 up on 3g. I was on Bionix 1.3.1 and figured maybe it was just something I had done on accident, so I flash Trigger 2.8 (First Non-TW Rom) and I like it, but the problem is still there. I go back to JFD after formatting sdcard, system, and data thinking this would surely fix whatever was going on.
The problem is if I turn my data off and back on, it will be ok, long enough to open a page or do a speed test. After that, on 3g if im able to even tether to my pc, its barely over .3-.4Mb down and it literally says "upload speed- LOL" and when im on wifi, I get 10-11Mb down and 1ish up and on my phone its like its capped around 5Mb down.
I dont think theres any reason for me to be "capped" or cut off or whatever. I have unlimited everything, I just checked and my billing cycle is up in 3 days and Ive used 535Mb, which I probably use alot more, but Im always on WiFi for the most part. Also, 0 downloads, because I dont download stuff on my phone directly, for whatever reason...gives me something to do I guess, lol. I also had every 2/2 flashable modem there and tried them all, along with the KB1 and KB7 stock+voodoo kernels, and the tigers blood 2.2 and overstock 1.5.
Lastly, I seen the thread about changing DNS servers, and Ive changed to both and back to normal and tried with both WiFi/3g and its like theres a invisible anti-data pro-signal/herpes thing around my phone that, clearly from the name is anti data and gives any signal dataherpes, and if someone gave me herpes, I probably wouldnt come back. Hence, whats going on here.
Really though, any help would be appreciated, greatly.
Also, just realized the way I worded it might seem to some people like Im blaming it on the ROM, and Im definitely not blaming it on anyone or anything, because chances are, its probably something I did. lol
Another thing I should mention, is when it is connected to any data like 3g, it constantly flip flops between '3G' and 'H'
Try flashing the KB1 or KA6 modem see if that resolves. If it does not then it could be just a quirk from the flash and reflash. Also, the 3G to H doesn't matter it is just an icon switching that just says that it recognizes a tower that sending that signal, the modem on the phone will still only receive 3g

I dialed ##778 edit mode and all that. clicked enabled I did that last time but now I can't go 3g I pulled out the battery complete restart all apps. And yeah any help? I'm running das bamf 1.4 stock kenernal (I spelled it wrong I know, doesn't matter u know what i mean)

I am having the same problem right now. I was on BAMF 1.4 and it was running great. I flashed Tesla and I could not get on 4gLTE. I restored back to BAMF and still no 4g. I might go back to stock and see if that fixes the problem.
Try wiping everything and then reflash the rom. And when i say everything i mean cache, dalvnik cache, phone data, etc.
I know i know, what I just did was go to settings SD and storage and did a software rest. Now it works
I did the factory reset 3 times. I also wiped Dalvnik, and battery stats 3 times. I finally just unrooted and went back to stock. That fixed it. I just rooted again and installed Tesla Coil without any problems.
Main troubleshooting steps:
Battery cover all the way on? You'd be surprised on how common that issue is.
Is there network issues within your network? There have been here in NJ.
Have you tried a battery pull? It's amazing what that can fix.
Is the 3G signal too weak? It could say something like -83dB but still, no 3G for me sometimes.
The list of things to try goes on and on. I can't blame a ROM for something that could more than likely be user error or network issues.

i get what i guess u can call spotty 3g...sometimes go to do something in app that requires data and nothing happens for a while then 3g shows up..sometimes I initiate browser and that makes it connect to 3g
For some reason my phone was in LTE MODE. I switched it auto prl. In 3g back.

havent posted here in a long time, but i have been having some odd problems regarding my fascinate. I recently updated from superclean to the UKB 2.0, then installed the 2.1 patch immediately after. While on superclean i attempted to update my radio, odin'd to various different ones since the phone seemed to have sporadic service and the 1x/3g symbol had basically vanished. so i flashed UKB and noticed even worse radio service, and so i odin'd dl09 on to the phone which didnt seem to help at all and now im at ed04 through CWM. my phone works alright now, with better service but still a data connection that cant seem to hold. and now of all a sudden im constantly losing all bars and its saying i have no service in the same location i was receiving 2 bars.
so i was wondering if anyone has had this problem or can point out something that i did horribly wrong, since it seems the state of the phone's radio has just been decreasing since i started fiddling with it. any thoughts would be much appreciated!

oh and just noticed that gps is no longer functioning...lol
solved. seems that part of the problem was juice defender which was supposed to only disable data connection when the screen was off, but apparently was toggling full airplane mode almost randomly, even while awake and when trying to send a text.
other thing i did was flash back to stock rom with dl09 to wipe everything, rerooted and updated to UKB, and have done nothing with the radio. ive noticed radio still is functioning subpar to when i was in stock so im confused there but i got functionality back.
gps works now too although i added GPSaids, first few seconds is completely wrong but as it picks up more sats it homes in frighteningly fast to my precise location.
edit: data connection still seems to be dropping only when i start attempting to access data, but that seems to be a new problem
I'm having the same problem, fresh install of ukb 2.0 restart then 2.1.
I have the EC01 Modem,
Signal is all over the place constantly. 3g, 1x, phone only, mostly is 2 bars then 0, back and forth
Wifi is a little weird, so is bluetooth...
I think I'm just going to wait for JT's full CM7...
As it says in the post, my Photon's 3G and Wifi stay on simultaneously. There is no handshake being done to settle which one is supplying the current stream of data and I can't figure it out. Sometimes the only way to settle things to get it to work right is to either turn off Wifi to let it settle to 3G, or turn off mobile data to let it settle to Wifi. I get between 2 and 4 bars here.
I've tried doing a factory restore, wiping internal and application storage... but when I got back to the home screen, all my settings were still the same including the desktop background, ringtones and a few other settings. The applications obviously were gone.
I then tried SBFing to 154_5 but I could see the icons doing it again before I even tried to activate. I had planned to let it just update to 198_6 OTA and hopefully fix the problem in the process, but I just came from that so I don't see it fixing it this time.
I'm in the process of SBF'ing 198_7 since I hear it has a 'data fix'.
Anyone have similar issues or resolve?
I once had a problem where 3G turned off when my wifi came up, then never came back on. I had to factory restore it. As for your hand off issue, I've never had that particular case happen. If you're going to stay stock I'd definitely try 198_7. Why not play with CM7 thought? I've been waiting for it to stabilize a bit, finally jumped in with the 1/26/12 build and it has been working awesome for me.

I can't find a raw CM7 build. The only ones I'm finding are people's weird ROM's of it...
In all actuality you shouldn't have to touch anything. I personally leave 4G and wifi on all the time. If the phone can't get a WiMAX signal then it automatically switches to 3G or roaming. The photon automatically switches between 3G and 4G as necessary.

Yes, well it's supposed to anyway. Mine doesn't. It does multiple simultaneously.
i have seen this many times on my mopho. also when im on stock and try to turn on wifi its say error and stays like that unless i reboot about 4 times

Sorry to ask about this, but is there a fix for the wifi connection for unlocked photon? I've been looking for hours and I'm coming from the nexus s 4g so I've had it easy. I'm on cm 7.2 and needs some sleep. Thanks for tolerating my noobness.

Replace dhd.ko under /system/lib with dhd.ko from stock version.

So I was pretty faithful to MIUI because of a lot of reasons, but i couldn't easily switch between 2 calls when i had a couple people on the line... Being that i use my phone a lot for business, I decided to go back to Sense as it's very easy and straight forward in terms of call switching...
I decided on Meanrom because of all the hype about the speed, battery life, etc...

Since then, my phone will randomly lock up completely requiring a battery pull to restart it. (not even vol-up+vol-down+power is working)
sometimes it locks while the screen is on, sometimes while off... red light usually flashes when it locks with screen off....
after a lockup it seems like the battery loses like 25% or more once rebooted.
It seems like its usually after a call, or switching on/off Wifi, etc.
Battery life on this phone has never been worse!
Thinking that my issues were with the rom, i tried infected rom, same issue, then i went back to MIUI.... still same issues...
Anyway.... Different roms, different Kernels, same problems, leads me to think that this is a radio issue... anyone point me in the right direction??
I am on the verge of smashing this piece of **** with a large hammer if i can't get it fixed... so save a phone, and my sanity, please.

Unfortunately I don't have any answers as I just s-offed/rooted my phone for the first time tonight, but considering I am planning on installing the same firmware upgrades/rom, you wouldn't happen to know if your Evo is HBOOT 1.3/1.4?
I have read about firmware issues with 1.5 elsewhere, but I've got a Nand backup and HBOOT 1.4 so I'm feeling lucky.

if your talking about meanrom's ICS build: Chad had a fix for this that didnt require flasing rogue firmware - but he had to remove it from XDA. some of the newer ics roms may work w/ older firmware.. if not, search for chads ics test kernel.
