I found a link here on hwo to install the swype beta on a different phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154334
So you don't have to click here are the steps
1) To update the pre-installed Swype to Swype beta you have to have root access or else this isn't going to work
2) Download "Root App Remover" and "Root Explorer" from the android market
3) Run Root App Remover (it will take a minute for it to initially scan the phone for system and user apps)
4) Using Root App Remover go to system apps scroll down to Swype tap it and press recycle, to completely uninstall it (which you have to do) press menu then "SystemApp Recycler" and uninstall it.
5) Run Root Explorer and press the "Mount R/W" button at the top if it isn't already selected, after that to go "system" folder then the "lib" folder and delete the file "libswypecore.so" (if it isn't there then go back into system and then back again)
6) After that go into the "data" folder then the "data" folder and delete "com.android.android.inputmethod" file (if its not there then quit root explorer)
7) After that go to the Swype Beta Website and register, go through all the various steps untill you've finished downloading and installing the Swype Installer.
8) Run Swype Installer and go through all the steps, then download and install the Swype Beta, generate the license using the installer and your done the newest Swype beta is now installed one you Samsung Galaxy S

So in step 6 when you go to delete the file, I don't see that in my list and wanted to know if it has a different name for our phone.
I tried just un-installing Swype with titanium backup (after backing it up) and then installing the beta but after a restart it would throw an error saying Swype stopped working over and over again until I de-selected it. But I did not follow these steps, only the uninstall and install portions.
Any advice is appreciated.
I had the same issue but then I tried the steps again, and restarted twice and it seemed to work. now I get an error after boot saying it isn't licensed correctly but then it goes away and works for me perfectly.

I uninstalled Swype with TBP, deleted the libswypecore.so file, rebooted, and installed the beta. It was that simple for me...

Hi,
I'm having problem with this crap swype !!
Somthing happened and it doesn't show in input anymore !
When I try to install it I got installation failed !!
I went to manage application and I didn't find it there !
So guy where does main files for this crap stored in ! So I can delete them manually and try to install it again !
It's driving me crazy !
I don't know how to remove it but try this first. Go to Manage Applications, press the menu key, select Filter then All. You should be able to find Swype located at the bottom. You can't remove it but select clear data and force closed to see if this helps you.
I hope that helps.
^^^^^
I tried that also but I got same thing swype doesn't show !
yo just get root explorer and go to system/app. loook for swype in that folder and delete it! if you want, you can also delete some swype file from the .lib folder but thats probably not necessary

You cannot remove applications in /system/app. The only way to remove Swype are:
A) Use ADB commands to uninstall it. Search XDA for the ADB thread
B) Get Root Explorer and go into /system/app and delete Swype.apk
Both of these methods require root.
removed swype
i did it by stopping the swype process.
SGS Tools>menu>cleanup System apps>advanced mode> (find swype and stop it)> reboot
ran the swype installer again (beta thing from the site), and it installed.
get absolute system and just uninstall it with that, it completely gets rid of it
Could register for swype beta and download the installer for a reinstall

you should include as a alternative on root explorer to search "swype" and delete all the files it shows besides ones that are in titaniumbackup or sd card.
Did anyone else's swype just stop working? I can still type, but I cannot swype??

Glad I'm not the only one.......haven't seen the "trial ended" note but it just stopped working today and I thought maybe I had inadvertanly changed a setting.
I can't seem to install the new Swype. I rm'd Swype.apk from /system/app using ConnectBot. When the installer runs, it prompts me that it's a system app. When I select install, I get a green check mark and "Application not installed."
Are there any other files that I have to delete for it to install correctly?

Yeah there is a file or two in system/lib you gotta delete. I remember one but cannot find the other one. So Im stuck where you are too.
*edit Nevermind, you gotta reboot after you uninstall those two files [the apk and the libswypescore or whatever its called.] Then after reboot the new apk will install. Im now on the latest 3.6.84.etc whatever the version number is

I had gotten to the same point. So I copy and pasted a Swype apk from an old Rom I still have (SC 2.9.2) to my system/app to see if that would work but it didn't take. Then without removing the apk, I tried running the installer again and it took. Not sure how or why but I've got swype back.

Thanks much
Swype beta has many enhanced features that the stock version does not have. It also contains links to an extensive system of help files, videos, tutorials, etc. to get you proficient at using swype. And last but not least, the dark beta keyboard display looks cool on the Droid X2. (See screen shots below.) However it will not install on our phone because the X2 stock version is a system app and Swype beta is installed as a user app. (The Swype beta installer checks to see if you have a system version of Swipe on your phone, and will not install the beta if you do.) If you would like to try out the enhanced beta version here is the easiest way I have found to install it.
First, you MUST be rooted. This method assumes you are rooted and are using Titanium Backup and Root Explorer.
To uninstall the stock version do this...
1. In settings, select a keyboard input method other than Swype.
2. Make a backup of the stock Swype app with TBU, in case you want to reinstall it.
3. Next, wipe data with TBU, then uninstall the program. (This will uninstall the app "/system/app/com.swype.android.inputmethod" and it's associated data files.)
4. With Root Explorer, go to the /system/app folder and check for a file called Swype.apk. If it is there delete or rename it. There may also be a lib file with a path of /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so. If this file is present, you should delete it as well.
5. At this point some folks have advised wiping cache and Dalvik cache with the X2 Recovery app, but if the above steps are followed, I have not found this to be necessary. Use your own discretion.
Now Swype is gone from your X2, and you are free to install the new beta version. If you already have the Swipe Beta Installer app on your phone, just use that. If not, go to http://beta.swype.com/ and follow the instructions to install the latest beta version.
Remember that the beta version of Swype is a user app (installed in the /data/app directory). If you are upgrading to a ROM that has the stock system version built in, and you are not intending to do a complete data wipe, then you will want to uninstall the beta first. Then you can follow these steps again after you upgrade your ROM.
Enjoy.
My NT is using indirect's root and I had the stock apps removed. Every time I reboot, pandora, netflix, and hulu plus always show back up after I uninstall them. Any clue why they come back after a reboot? My netflix app always asks for an update and I have two copies of pandora on there.
you have to first go to root--->system---->app find the app and delete.
then uninstall
then reboot
(may need to change permissions to delete the crap)
I had this same issue, and one of the best ways to prevent it is before trying to delete/uninstall theme, is to go into the stock app manager and archive everything, this unregistered the flag that says they should be there on the device at all from B&N's perspective, and ensures they won't just suddenly appear again. I had the same issue with Netflix continually reverting to B&N's version instead of the newest version.

i'm not seeing a system folder in root... do i need to use a specific app to change permissions? i've already gone through several folders on the nook and on the memory card trying to track the apps down and can't find anything...

root will open up
click system(should be before vendor folder)
click on App folder(before Bin folder)
