After putting off rooting and flashing my P500 for a couple months, I finally decided it was time to try this whole custom ROM, rooting stuff.
Got through the whole process without a hitch, made my nandroid backups and saved a copy of the contents of my SD card (with nandroid backups) onto my computer.
Now here's the question/issue:
How do I restore my previous apps, sms, settings etc from the backups?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

nandroid backups are usseless if ur migating to a new rom.u cant take anythin from it except the whole.it is usefull to get back the privious state if anything goes wrong with ur new rom.
now how to restore.....apps are avilable in market to back up app,(titanium....but if u back up and reintall certain apps to the new rom problems may arise),sms and even vpn settings.just serch in the market

I am running the the latest Axura ROM (2.2.5.7 I believe) and have now purchased the premium versions of the following Apps: ROM Manager, Titanium Back Up & Launcher Pro.
With all this awesome capability, what should I do in the way of a back up to restore my phone if something ever happens? Basically my goal is to be able to go into recovery and restore my phone totally if I FUBAR it.
Please keep in mind I just entered this world as of Sunday starting with Rooting and then ROM flashing : D

The way I have things set up for backups, and this is just for my personal convenience, is as follows...
I have a stock JFD ODIN rom to flash in case anything goes wrong. (A lot of people here will tell you to flash this whenever flashing a new rom. It is safer, and cleaner to do it this way, but not absolutely necessary)
I make a nandroid of my last stable rom (I only keep one at a time cause the files are huge) and keep a backup of that on my PC.
I backup all my apps and a few other things (call logs, bookmarks, sms) through Titanium backup. If you get the pro version, you can load it up after flashing a new rom and have it automatically restore all your apps in one click (system settings can be dangerous to restore when going from rom to rom, so be careful with those.) I also keep a backup of this on my PC.
I will also occasionally backup both of the sd cards to the PC.
Maybe overkill, but you probably wont ever lose anything forever.

Well I just backed up my ROM through ROM manager... I have another one in there too dated Saturday (when I first flashed) which I assume is my stock vibrant ROM...?
I do have the Pro version of Titanium... how would I back up everything for a one click set-up?...If I did that should I just delete my ROM back up in ROM manager? Trying to avoid unnecessary redundancy and the wasting of precious space on my phone : P
Go into Titanium and click on Backup and restore and than click on menu and then batch and then select backup all user apps. then run batch file. You also have the choice to back up system data as well. I would not recommend deleting any of your backups in Rom Manager. Just backup all of your apps(and system data if you wish) and you are good to go.

Why is that? Nandroid backups are very large, and if you're playing it safe and making a nandroid each time before flashing a rom, you will run out of space very quickly. You should always keep at least one (for me its my most recent, stable, daily driver), but it certainly is NOT necessary to keep all of them.
Hi, my gs2 is rooted with CF-Root, this is the FIRST time i have done all this as im new to Android. Last night i did a nandroid backup and a titanium backup, factory/cache wipe etc before i then flashed villainrom 2.4.2 for the first time with success and now my phone is obviously like it was out of the box but on villainrom, so all my apps, contacts etc have gone.
I have a few questions:
Whats the best way to restore everything and get my contacts and apps etc back? do i have to recover with nandroid or titanium?
whats the difference between these 2 backups i made, nan/titan?
also does recovering any of these backups affect the custom rom i just flashed? ideally i would like to know for when im flashing custom roms in the future, which is the best way to back things up then recover them after i have flashed a custom rom?
One last thing is can i still use samsung kies to backup/sync things like contacts/photos with a rooted gs2 running villainrom?
Sorry for these noob questions, any help is really appreciated! THX!

A nand backup = backup your current setup, like an image (including ROM)
Titanum = backup apps +/ data
Now that you flashed a new rom, you should restore with Titanium your apps.
So - If you want to go back to your earlier ROM + everything, use your nand back up. If you want to stay on this ROM and have the apps back, use Titanium.
And once you flashed a custom rom, you can't use Kies anymore to update/back up etc.

totally not recommended. you could be coming from different android version, or even if same version, different manufacturers may have different setup.
if you feel adventurous, you can try just reinstalling the "data" portion though, that is where your installed apps are placed. but be warned it also contains some previous system settings which may not be compatible with sgs3.
better alternative is to install Titanium backup, it has function to read from nandroid backups so you can pick and choose what you want to extract from there.
First of all this is the wrong section to post this, go to the q&a section instead.
If the other phone was not the same exact model of phone then DO NOT restore the nandroid. Like the other commenter mentioned you can use titanium backup to save and restore apps or even use it to extract the apps from the nandroid.

Fyi, nandroid doesn't touch the EFS partition or the bootloaders, or radio, just the system, data, cache and boot (kernel) partitions.
You *can* restore another person's nandroid onto your phone, but its really not a good idea (someone shipped roms as nandroids for a bit...), and you shouldn't need to touch the EFS unless something goes wrong, and a rom should never touch the EFS.
Edit: As people above say, don't restore a nandroid from another model of phone onto your device, if you want to move data from phone to phone like that use titanium backup or the like.

Well in that case at your risk by Nand i hope you mean a CWM Nandroid recovery .
Its often best to have the same version of recovery to restore backup if first attempt fails ..
Be far simpler to flash a stock SGS3 Orange rom via Odin .

I have CWM Touch Recovery v6.0.3.1. A couple of hours ago, I made a NANDroid backup before flashin a new ROM. When I attempted to use NANDroid backup manager to restore my apps and data, the app said I had no apps in the backup. Upon reviewing the files CWM created, I discovered that it created several data.ext4.tar files. Is there a way to combine these so I can use the Nandroid backup manager to restore my apps. I've managed to restore call logs, text messages and wifi data but my apps are important too

EDIT: I do realise I could probably use CWM for restoring but I want to restore specific apps and not the data. (I.e the recently updated hotmail app)
Plus, restoring with CWM flashes data that is incompatible with the new ROM.

As far as i know Nandroid backup is used to restore previously backed up ROM+installed applications+app data . If you jus want to back up some application, just use something like "Titanium Backup", it workes great.

Titanium, Backup (TiBu) has an option for extract from nandroid backup in its menu. why dont you try that if u have TiBu installed ..

A nandroid backup is used to backup the system,boot,recovery... In case your phone is bricked but if yout want to backup apps just use an application like titanium backup

I hope this is a right place to ask my question here. If not please please tell me and head me over to an other thread where this has been discussed.
I've rooted the S4 mini successfully (thanks to arco68). Right after the rooting process and installing ARCO's CWM I backed up the stock 4.4.2 rom in any case. I did a factory reset and flashed CM 11 also successfully and everything was good. After a week I wanted to go back to stock. So I restored the backup I made previously. Everything went out good, but now the whole system is inconsistent and instable. I have problems with the WiFi, SD card problems and so on.
What am I did wrong? Any advise is very welcome
I will flash stock via Odin tomorrow and root it again. But I want to avoid this process in future

Couldn't find the help or questions section, things have changed here hehe.
Anyway, I did a nandroid backup three years ago and don't know what rom it was but most probably it was the stock gingerbread, the time & the size of it very much indicates that it was stock gingerbread only on obsolete LG Optimus one (p500). Though I've bought a new phone but I need that urgently but now no rom is working the way it used to.
Suddenly I remembered that I have a backup in another sd card. But the recovery doesn't recognize that when I tap restore. I realized it's maybe coz backup is not a zip file, instead in a folder there are yaffs files, boot file etc. Around 6-7 files and the total folder size is 400+mb. I created a zip file but still it says nothing to recover.
I used CWM v5xxx and TWRP v2xxx for this purpose.
Are nandroid backups stored like this only? And how can I restore then?
I'll be really grateful if you help.
