yes, only install CWM and you make a NANdroid Backup, ... flash whit the new room and reinstalling the recovery CWM, and give in advanced-backup-restore here only select data...
sorry for my bad english

I have been using it for long. But never had any problem. Don't get what problem you had!

Jeah, install CWM recovery and use NANDROID backup(like adiles sayed) for RESTORING(its the BEST WAY). But if you want only restore you APPS, then you can use TITANIUM BACKUP. It works very well!
CHEERS!

What exactly does nan droid backup restore??
Sent from my Galaxy ace using Tapatalk

Nandroid is a complete backup of your system. But with advanced restore you can also only restore the phone settings.
I wouldn't advise you to restore settings from a Froyo ROM to a Gingerbread one though.
Same goes with Titanium Backup. When you upgrade to GB, just reinstall the Apps from market and only restore Appdata with Titanium.

When changing from a stock gb rom to a custom gb rom is it safe to do a complete nandroid backup? Or i should only backup the app data with titanium?

Both the things are completely different.
Nadroid backup is used backup complete rom(system, recovery, apps, data, cache, settings).
Whereas titanium backup can only backup apps & data.
You can only restore with titanium backup after you have a working rom & titanium backup installed.
Whereas with nandroid you can restore if you have cwm recovery working.
Hit thanks if I helped!!!

Considering this thread I can't see why you were able to troll in the GingerReal thread when you don't even know as much as this.

clockwork backs up your rom so if you restore that it'll just restore whatever rom you did the back up on
you need to use titanium backup or a similar app to backup and restore apps

[Q] Installing new ROM and keeping old files

I know about Titanium, just to start with.
My question is about backup files using CWM, if I install a new rom and restore my system/cache/data will the phone work normally after that?
My main goal is to keep my installed apps as they are on the new ROM, so i guess data is the only thing i need to backup by right?
Thanks in advance!
Backup system + data using titanium backup.
Also backup current rom using cwm incase anything goes wrong while flashing new rom.
After u instal new rom instal titanium backup and restore.

Villain Rom - Back up and restore

Hi
I am about to install Villain rom 2.1 onto my GS2. As per instructions, I have backed up using the app that got installed by the cf root called CWM.
I would lose all my setting etc when I install the rom right? If I want to get it back while keeping the villain rom do i restore from CWM. And will this keep the root and the custom rom.??
Thanks. Please help. ASAP
Yes you will lose your settings, and app data, if you want to save it, use titanium backup and backup user Apps and data.
You can restore anything in white or green, but items in red will most likely cause problems
The backup you made is a nandroid backup which if you restore you will restore your whole old rom.
As far as root, cf root will auto root, and villainrom is rooted so you can just install the superuser app from the market.

You mean on the homescreens etc? Depending on the launcher, you can try backing up twlauncher and restoring it after you flash, but it may not work, so take a nandroid backup before you try.

Best way to backup the S3

Hi there, I'm kinda new to android and was wondering: is there a way to back up the S3 like the iPhone? Where everything gets backed up into a file and if i were to reformat my phone I can just restore it and everything will be there. Thanks.
I really like Go Backup. Never had an issue with it, even from going to stock firmware to CM9 or 10, which usually ruins titanium backups.
But the one file backup would be a nandroid, which is done through recovery.

Yes you can restore but it is not advisable..will create conflicts and FCs..Best bet is to restore all the apps with data from TB..all the apps will have their settings intact..only problem is TW launcher but if you are going to AOSP then that is not a problem...otherwise backup TWlauncher also and restore it with Data..force closes may come though..
Titanium Backup works great for me, but be careful restoring system aps.
Make a nandroid backup just in case you mess something up
With both nandroid backup and titanium backup, I feel like immortal

+1.......the most overlooked, but most important backup of all, everything else is just a matter of data loss, but losing efs= goodbye precious!

As far as I know, cwm backs up both user apps and system apps with their data so if u restore it from there, the old sytem apps and data might conflict with the new one...so I would advise against it.
Use cwm and completely restore ur old Rom, make a backup usng tb and then flash ur new Rom... Safest way!

I think that will make so much easier for me the fact of testing more ROMs on my cellphone, thanks you
You can simply backup your apps and data via TB and
After installing a new ROM just restore APP+DATA via TB... best way to sort and backup and restore apps individually

You could also use yaffey to extract anything from a CWM backup:

On some clockworkmod versions you can do an advanced restore and just choose data. Never tried it but maybe give it a shot

Not recommendable....if your phone is on different ROM before backup, restoring the backup data into different ROM will make your phone bootloop (really bad cases) or lost statusbar/setting and etc (light cases)....
since he already make a backup then TB is the best choices...

You Think????
FYI : Backup from CWM contains the whole pack of the previous ROM....when you choose to restore data only, it restore all data including User Apps Data and System Apps Data....when System Apps Data is restore into a different ROM, you bet it going to make your phone into bootloop....
you are welcome to try it if you don't believe me....

I was talking about the selective backup of nandroid backup from TB. Ofc in a CWM data restore all apps(system+user) get restored. Im well aware of that and I wont be trying that
Anyways i think this tool is the best option right now. So thanks iOneX for the info :good:
A bit late I guess..
Well, I come here six months later, but Google brought me here...
I guess you're already using Online Nandroid Backup combined with Nandroid Manager. Just two days ago I restored user apps+data with Nandroid Manager from a backup created through Online Nandroid Backup. Both apps from H3r3t1c are really useful, specially working together.
Aside of this advice (surely already not needed) I was looking after a script to restore those user apps+data from a backup. I wanna include that script in my list of zips-to-flash in ZipInstaller
I'd appreciate any help. Cheers.
