Will changing the volume keys to be dpad_left and right give the function of moving one space over in text windows? I'm willing to test, but figured I would ask in case there are serious problems I'm not aware of.

I just tried this with root explorer, and it works beautifully! Volume up moves one space left. Volume down moves one space right. I have a volume widget that controls all volume levels, so no functions are lost!

Hi i was just looking at the Kwaake game for our vibrant, and i was thinking how cool it would be to actually tilt the phone to the right and have the volume up/down keys at the top. This way they could act as useful action keys. If this is already done then nevermind but its just an idea......

Are you saying you wish it was this way for kwaak3 or other games? Kwaak3 already use the volume rocker for game play, just doesn't tilt.

I'm saying if we were to turn the phone to the right (portrait mode) which would place the volume controls on top making them easy to use with our right index finger, sorta like (L, R) for GBA ect.

Hey guys I seem to be having a problem with my softkeys from a dozen or so flashes ago and it hasn't been fixed. So basically if you wanted to access the task manager or voice search before you could hold either the home or search softkeys. My problem is that as soon as I hold the home key, it acts as a single press and it doesn't register a hold. Is there anyzone who knows how to fix this? Thanks a bunch!

In order to configure available settings, follow the steps below:
1. Press the Home Key
2. Press the Menu Key
3. Tap on Settings
Sound and Display in that menu you should be able to adjust the sensitivity of the touch and see if that resolves the issue
Sorry its not the intensity of the haptic and those settings don't have touch sensitivity. Im also running the newest bionix if that helps.

With CM7 you can set the soft buttons to do other functions. For example you can set the search button to a different app or search app. You can set up the camera to use either volume UP, volume DOWN, or Power button to take pics. If you use the power.button to take pics you can then set up the volume UP/DOWN to zoom in/out. I have asked about this in one of the stock roms but never got an answer.

Does anyone have an answer for the stock rom rooted?
I believe they are currently tinkering with the camera app to enable this functionality.
I am currently using the paranoid android rom and noticed it has an easy way to enable or disable the hardware buttons.
My question is, is it possible to enable and disable the buttons using either a combination of the volume buttons, or a long press of a hardware button. Reason being is i have a 2 year old who loves using flashcard apps but he's always hitting the buttons and messing everything up. I would also like this because it keeps him out of other apps and calling random people.

I know there have been related topics of the volume rocker buttons only controlling media volume, but my question is spawned by something else that I was able to do a few days ago.
So I used to have a HTC amaze, the volume rockers controls the ringer/notifications. I liked that. I tend to change my notification/ringers often throughout the work day. But now I'm noticing on my SIII that the buttons only control media, which I understand is practical seeing as how ringers/notifications are thought of as a set it and forget it.
But the other day I was at the movies and was able to hit my volume rocker and it controlled my ringer volume and went all the way down to vibrate. And I did this from the home screen. I do it now, and it controls media. I know that you can hole the power button and you have quick access to vibrate, silence and sound and then when hitting the volume rockers you can adjust the sliders to control system, ringer and notification.
Any ideas on why I was able to control my ringer/notification volume via the rockers but now I cannot?
The volume settings are environment sensitive: if you're in a media app (includes all apps except dialler, ...) you get the media settings.
Homescreen should give you dialler. If not: are you using another launcher than stock?
You can set the other settings through the gear symbol in the on-screen volume display which pops up when pressing the volume rockers

Everything is stock on my phone. I've tried it within multiple different apps, and they all just allow for control of media volume, even the dialer.
