You don't need kitchen to extract kdz than dz. After dz also you don't need kitchen to get the .img files from .mbn.

[Q] messing up the kitchen?

MAJOR NOOB ALERT!!!
Hello. Working on the theory that less is more, I'll get on with the questions...
1. I am trying to edit the .bash_profile file and I can't do it. Please help!
2. The reason I am trying to use the kitchen is to work on the excellent SFM 1.1 ROM for the wildfire. Can the kitchen be used this way, or can I try to port the SFM 1.2 from the Salsa?
I asked my mum why I was so special, but she didn't know...

Read post #3 of the kitchen thread.
Sent from my HTC Hero making C.R.E.A.M.
I have read the third post of the kitchen
I can FIND the file, but when I open it in Wordpad and add the line on the end, cygwin still can't find my JAVA.
Sorry if this is a really noob mistake...
I did find the porting answer though
Thanks!!

I have made a VERY noob mistake...
I have just realised that editing a file that is used in a LINEX enviroment in Wordpad isn't very clever - no wonder it's not working
Could somebody tell me how I can remove the Wordpad file association and how I need to edit it so that Cygwin can recognise it?
Sorry for my stupidity...

I have installed gvim, edited the bash_profile file, and tried to run the kitchen, but then it says the clear command is not found.
I know this is covered in the FAQ's, but I have been over the installation, and am 99% sure I have done nothing wrong in installing cygwin. I followed the readme and the picture guide, and am getting very frustrated...
I only want to get the kitchen working...
(after that I'll go and hassle the guys in the wildfire forum!)
Just delete your entire cygwin dir and re install and all should be good.
By the sounds of it you did exactly the same as I did. Mines all sorted now after a re install.

Help Building a CUSTOM(from STOCK ROM)
Newbie here---
- I have downloaded the HTC stock RUU for my device.
- I used Android Kitchen cygwin to extract the files, setup the working folder.
- Added root permissions,BusyBox
- Built the rom from working folder.
Wanted to test whether this works or not... But Phone Got stuck on HTC logo .. Not even BOOTANIMATION.
What did i miss or DO wrong here??
Where in these steps worked flawlessly when i took a custom rom? What else should be done here?? Help would be Appreciated!!!

My Answer is for kagouro - Becouse i Don't see your post when I write.
If Your Phone is dedected in adb you can use logcat (adb logcat in windows cmd) if phone don't dedected in adb - flash recovery via fastboot, join in recovery , instal working rom and found bad files in rom (try add modyfication singly - first root, second busybox etc - in this metod you can see whad mod don't work - probably stupid method but work :cyclops

Kitchen will replace certain necessary parts of your ROM if it isn't compatible with the kitchen, it puts them back when you compile. When you compiled your ROM did you take the guided option? Also, and probably the first thing I should have asked, is your phone compatible with kitchen?

Ext3 is a mount point, I'm not sure what it would be specific to your device, but it tells me there's an error in your updater script

just give me the updater script. file
here it is thanks
There is no mount and unmout cmd's in the script..
Well iam on phone now...
Simple solution for u is to use any any existing mod's meta-inf folder in ur mod.

Have a look at a working updater-script and you will see a huge difference
For example you need a command like
Code:
extract_dir
More set perms and mounting/unmounting system. Please check out a "real" updater-script :good:

Try download some flashable zips and view updater scripts with notepad++
This is the best way to understand how it works.
If I have some time I write a little guide

[Q] Edit .apk wirh winRAR possible?

Hey guys,
I was searching for a tool to edit an apk file and i found Apk Tool on xda but i think it's not
that much easy to work with this program. (for a n00b, like me.. )
I managed to open and edit te file with winRAR,
but is this program also capable of proper compiling the app again, ready to use?
I tried it and it worked well i think, but is this possible with any app or other kinds of changes?
If this is stupid or something, please tell me. I am not very experienced in these kinds of things.. (neither in english, sorry.. )
Somebody any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

It all depends on what you edit, obviously you didnt make a fatal change,so it must have been small,no its not possible to edit anything else as far as the manifest and xml files. You'll get a parsing error.

Okay, that's true i only changed those kinds of files and it wasn't a problem yet.
I changed somethings in an demo version of an app and now it recognizes it as the full version so winRAR can be pretty usefull for apk edit if you keep things simple like this..

Hey thanks but ive tried that kitchen before and no luck
i figure the problem is
caused because the boot.img 's are not of standard type and do not have the standard ANDROID header therefore that kitchen wouldnt work
Okay, unpackbootimg crashes trying to unpack the boot.img from FXP204-cm-9-20130126-UNOFFICIAL-kumquat because it has the wrong "magic" at the top. trevd pointed this out as a definite incompatibility for some devices a couple pages back. Trying trevd's split_img from the first page, it actually reports the "Wrong magic" error and shows that the file has an ELF header not an ANDROID!. Opening in HxD shows that there is no ANDROID! header later on as with some HTC devices, so ELF is the only header, and we're basically dealing with a different, unsupported filetype here. On the upside, there is no real gap in the data, so there might not be a ramdisk packed with it anyway.
