I have recently lost my signal from my WiFi at home but my phone still picks up the WiFi signals from the neighbors. I exchanged my first 3d for a new one but I still have the same problem. My ipod still picks up and uses the WiFi signal and was wondering if anybody knew why this maybe happening.
Thanks,

Try resetting your router. Or try updating the firmware of the router. Also try forgetting the network in wifi settings and then try logging back in. Or do a factory wipe.
Locked & Loaded
just turn wifi on and off, no biggie, works pretty well.
Check out WiFi Fixer in the app market. Solved all of my problems.
Whoa, before you do all that other stuff.
So your ipod works with your router? And your phone connects to your neighbor's router? If so then most likely your router isn't a problem, nor is your phone.
Android's wifi stack does a really good job of automagically connecting to the best available wifi spot. Do you see your wifi router in the Wifi settings? If so, long press and connect to it. If you have authentication set, then it will prompt you for a password.
Let's start with that then go with more, if needed, and will probably need more information that you provide.
My phone doesn't even see my WiFi connection, it can see all the other connections only... I've traded my phone in not only for this problem but other problems and this problem still looms. I'm thinking its in my settings that were transferred from my other phone? I don't know, help please...

Man its might be your router. Have ya even tried just resetting the router back to factory defaults??? Its a tiny pin size hole on the back of your router "or at least it.should be" Henceforth, find a needle or safety pin and press the that button for like 10 or 15 seconds and wailt 2 to 4 min. After that go to your wifi settings on your phone and click on your network name and chose forget. Now look for your new network name and which should be an open and unsecured network. It should have the manufacturing abbreviation in the network name so if its say a belkin it might be -belkin123 unsecured- also it should be open because when you reset the router it erases all of the security. Also routers firmware should always be upgrade. Not saying this will solve your issue but it might and its a really quick way to rule out if its your router.
Locked & Loaded
Some of the "perm-temp" root scripts caused this, if you used some of the older ones, you may be experiencing this.
The solution to it was to "forget" all your wifi connections on the phone, power it off/battery pull, then reconnect.
Of course, if this doesn't fit your scenario, disregard.

Hi guys, in this days i have noticed a problem with my gsII.
Sometimes I have the gsII connected to my router but internet connection doesn't work.
I'll try to explain better what i mean... I start wifi on my gsII and use internet connection without problem. Then I set the phone in standby mode leaving wifi on. When after a while i want to use internet connection, it doesn't work. The telephone is still connected to my router but i can't use internet on the phone.
The only way to make internet connection work is to disable wifi e then reactivate it.
This is really frustrating....
I've got the telephone from three months but only now I'm noticing this problem because first I used to disable the wifi and activate it only when i need it.
Am I the only to have this problem? Is there a solution?
Thanks to everyone in advance... any help would be appreciated
A video is more than thousands of words, so this is an "example video" of the bug:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4um-AqLk1jw
Test it with a different router, i.e. Cisco E4200.
It would a good idea but i have to buy a new router or go to some friend's house for 2-3 hours. I'll keep this idea in my mind thanks
I have this problem, mines a bt home hub v3. Don't think its the router I blame the phone. I have to restart phone to make it connect with ability to use internet

I do not know what " standby mode" is? I have the same phone and have no problems with wifi. The phone goes to sleep when I do not use it and awakes when I use it.
It seems that your phones wifi is sleeping and not waking up. I always turn it off when not using it anyway. Not the full answer but it works for me.

I believe I know and had the problem you describe.
For me the Wifi would work perfectly at first and then after the phone had been left for a while I would try to use it and get 'no connection' type errors. Sometimes it would even stop working even if I just waited too long with the phone still on in my hand.
I found that if I either disabled router wifi security or set it to WEP the problem disappeared. The issue occurred on 2.3.3. My router is a DLink one fyi. I have yet to test 2.3.4 which came out yesterday in Sweden. Ill let u know.

I tried changing the channel also. I have heard others getting this to work. Didn't work for me. You can use Wifi Analyser app on phone to find a clear channel and see how u go changing your router perhaps?
I tried re flashing also using factory restore. No fix for me.
Also noticed that u can sometimes get phone to work by toggling Network Data on/off. Not really fun either.
The wifi channels and security settings I am talking about are settings in the router not the phone. What wifi security are you using in your router?

I am not a believer the router is at fault in any case. I would entertain an incompatibility but nothing more.
Original router and security settings work fine for...wait for it...an iphone 3gs and a Motorola Defy (yes the phone which seems to have issues with doing everything else!)
Either way an incompatibility is not acceptable either if that's what it is

Now i'm trying to use channel 5 with the router ( but yesterday I've tested channel 6 and 13 without any result)
I hate this bug because beacause it happens only when he wants! I'm quite sure that assistance wouldn't solve the problem. A friend of mine has changed three gsII and said that every gsII that he has changed had this bug!

Is NOT the phone.
i have the same problem reported in the 1st post.
i have been turning wifi off and then on again for a quick fix until now but i think the solution might be to drop the security on the router from WPA to WEP. Haven't tried it yet tho, because it doesn't bother me that much.
I had an ipad previously (before i had the SGS2) and it had exactly the same behaviour. I looked up the problem then and found a FAQ from the ISP that mentioned a compatibility problem between ipad and that router, so their suggestion was to set the router to WEP only.

For me it happens always after the phone comes back from stand by with wifi on.
steps to reproduce:
1-turn wifi on, and check it's connected and working
2-press power button to turn off screen
3-turn phone back on, try to access a new web page, it doesn't work
I noticed that while it's in stand by i will still receive email notifications so it probably only looses the connection when i turn it on again.
Also, if there was some program working (say, a download) when i went into standby it will probably still be transferring when it comes out of stand by, it's just the new connections that fail.
Hello wondering if anyone can help.
Bought the device yesterday, galaxy player 5.0
The only way I can connect to the wifi is if I disable WEP and have the router open.
When I use WIFI, either from the cell phone or my home WIFI using WEP, the device is stuck in obtaining IP address, as soon as I remove the WEP and have the router open, it connects.
None of my other devices have this issue, only this one.
Any ideas?
or
Should I return it?
Thanks.
I found that if my router was broadcasting its SSID my 5 would connect, if it was hiding the SSID it would not (just sat there searching for IP). Maybe that's the problem?
Mine has problem too on my belkin54g (open config), connect and disconnection all the time pretty annoying, i really hope there will come a fix out from samsung since it came with 2.3.5 update....
Thanks!!!
Thanks guys got it working.
Changed password on the router and did a reset to it.
Seems that did the trick.
Almost returned the player.
And the worst is that I had already installed a shield for the screen, 15 bucks!!!
Anyway, thanks for the response!!!
Hidden SSID need patch for YP-G70
Just install HiddenSSID Enabler from market, it'll work for YP-G70. You need run it once and get your hidden wifi connected, then can uninstall it. Looks like it is just a patch but really works.
I was under the impression you could use a hidden SSID under stock 2.3.5. Under Wifi Settings, there is the "Add Wi-Fi network" option, and it looks like it can be used for hidden SSIDs.

No, it won't work coz hidden SSID not supported by GB.

Try using WPA instead of WEP. WEP is ancient, and some newer wifi chipsets don't interoperate well with it because it's so old and it's been HIGHLY recommended to ditch it on routers for at least 5 years. WEP was known to be insecure almost a decade ago!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like I remember reading a few years ago that hidden ssid's were not part of the 802.11 b,g, or n specifications. I thought that while a lot of devices had that function, it wasn't exactly "compliant".

wifi disconnect/reconnect fixed
On my 4.0 US, the wifi would disconnect and reconnect constantly. To fix it, go to ur network (on windows go to start and click network or type in ur IP address) and go to LAN settings. Change the dhcp lease time to 2 weeks or anything bit forever. It resolved my issue completely
Any input on this isue will be helpful. I'm on sprint new OTA 4.0.4 sense 4.1..the issue was going on before and after the update meaning i got NO FIX with the update.

I was told by HTC that is issue was fixed. So when I was still having the Wifi disconnecting and reconnecting I contacted HTC again. After all the standard Troubleshooting tips (like Soft reset and Power Off) I was told to do a Factory reset. I ended up doing it and it has fixed my problem. My WiFi connection has stayed strong since. Also I installed an app called "Hidden Settings" by Derek R Reynolds (Free in the play store) this app was made for the HTC One series phones. In that menu there is an option "Put Data connection to Sleep" which turns data connection off while the screen is off. this is checked by default so uncheck that option. I've included a screenshot of that menu. Also after Factory resetting my phone on the newest OTA my phone has been running a lot better (smoother and faster). I know it's a hassle, but it might help you out.

its very odd that the phone can connect to my neighbors router...but not mine...i would think if the wifi antenna was bad it wouldnt connect to any wifi at all....SMH..i guess i'll take it in to the sprint store.
Maybe it's your router

What kind of security does your router use? I changed mine to WEP and it fixed everything. I had random disconnects at my house only.

im using a standard issue comcast router(according to them, their best and most current router)..im using wpa/wpa2 psk tkip...however as i stated in the vid my toshiba tab(ICS) and my GS3 both connect with no problems..i can see my LTEvo's mac address in my routers wifi settongs under "offline computers"...my router has no issues with my laptop and airrave(both ethernet)or the above mentioned wifi connected devices...just the evo..i have changed the channels and dropped all security and made it an open network..still nothing..but the evo can connect to my neighbors network(but no internet access)...head shaker
maybe your router is trying to issue an ip address that is already in use by another device. Go in to the wireless settings/advanced and try to set the ip manually. See if that helps
For Some reason my router will assign xxx.xxx.xxx.22 to my phone and I have it set to automatically get an IP from the router. I don't have that many devices in my house on wireless so I don't know why it picked that number, but it is always that number. I also get a similar IP address at a buddies house with it ending in .22. Might be an HTC thing.
na i don't think its an "ip conflict"...its the way the phone is "seeing" the network..hence the drops according to wifi analyzer..the wifi network drops when the phone isnt even trying to connect...
[my apologies in advance if there's a thread on something like this already - the XDA forum search function was not working this morning]
I've got a sort of bizarre problem that I cannot sort out.
We have an open wi-fi network at work which I've been connecting to with my Inc4g [not rooted, still running stock everything] since last summer. At some point in December, though, I stopped being able to connect to it. Here's where it gets weird:
A) My other co-workers with various other kinds of phones have not noticed any change or disruption with the work wi-fi,
B) I brought my old 2010 Incredible to work the other day and it had no trouble immediately connecting to the wi-fi network, and
C) My Inc4g still connects to our wi-fi network at home with no issues
So it is very specifically an issue with my Inc4g connecting to my work's open wi-fi.
When I toggle my wi-fi on, this is exactly what happens:
1) it sees the saved network
2) it then just constantly goes back and forth between "saved" and "connecting"
3) it also occasionally flips wi-fi off entirely and briefly displays the "to see available networks, switch on wi-fi" message... but then it flips wi-fi back on and goes back to #2
It shows signal strength for the network as poor if I look at the modify network menu, but that seems unlikely given A and B above. I have also tried telling it to forget the network and rescan, but that does not change anything. I have NOT asked firm IT about whether they changed anything with our routers, but it seems like that should not be the issue.
Any thoughts or suggestions???
Thanks for reading the tl;dr if you made it this far.

Whoops -- forgot to add that info -- not rooted.
Started the unlock process with htcdev back in July literally hours after they shut that down (when folks did not even realize they had shut it down) and then never got around to tinkering after that. Most recent software update was Oct. 2012.
Might as well also add --
Not only does my phone connect successfully to WiFi at home, but it also connects to my open work network when upstairs in our cafeteria (obviously via different router).
It just doesn't work in my specific place in the building. It presumably has to do with the router near my workstation. From the exact same location, various other Android phones and iPhones all connect without issue. It's driving me nuts.

That is truly bizzare.
When you try and "forget" the network, does it disappear from the list? But the problem returns when you try to reconnect, or does it never leave the list?

Yeah, it's gone from the list of networks when I tell it to forget. If at home, it stays gone. And if at work, it only reappears when it rescans for available networks.
I'm sort of tempted to just factory reset at this point, but don't feel like losing all my settings/apps/etc.

Hi all. At home I turn off my wifi when I go to work and when I turn it back on, my nexus 5 doesn't remember the password. My nexus S was the same. This recommends switching my router to WEP (it's currently WPA-PSK), however I'm not sure I actually CAN change this in my router settings. Shouldn't it just work anyway, or is it a router problem? Should I just stop turning off the router? This feels like it shouldn't be a problem: why can't the phone simply paste the password into the box for this specific router name & ID, rather than me typing it?
Thanks for any thoughts!

Seems odd that it would be a router issue but that's what those guys reckon.
I turn it off when I go to work or away for the weekend. Was quicker to put reboot in the title! In any case, it turns off & on.
Could you just circumvent all this by leaving the router on? Modern routers consume so little power that the cost should be minimum and the headaches from not working should be gone
Having said that I have never had a phone forget the password to my network when I turn my router off, when you go into settings on your phone is the WPA password still there? It should be, I keep my passwords stored in Google servers so every time I change ROMs or devices I never enter the WiFi passwords to any network I often visit.... In other words your phone should store the password and remember it when you are in range of your router, power cycling it should not effect the phones memory of this password

I could and will leave the router on more, but this still definitely happen occasionally. Let's be honest, it's not the end of the world, but it does feel like a core bug.
Not sure whereabouts in settings the password would be / be visible? All the other routers I've ever connected to are there, I think, so the password memory function is otherwise fine. Which lends weight to this router/phone issue.... however it feels like it still ends up being a phone bug, since all it takes is for the phone to paste a saved string correctly. Wish I could get other people to replicate this but IDK how they would!
Is there an obvious option to store them on the google servers?
Open settings/WiFi/ and you will see all stored hotspots, long press anyone to see if it has proper info
You may have some setting in your router that tells it to disallow devices to connect after reboot, you can go through router settings and see what's going on there, often
192.168.01 or 192.168.1.1 just see your owners manual for proper settings, or go to the OEM website of router for some tips

Good knowledge man, thanks! Didn't know about long-press. Password says "(unchanged)" but if I hit "show password", nothing shows.
I'll check the router settings, that sounds like a promising avenue. Cheers!
Best of luck!

well I never had issues like these well It doesn't look like router issues because mobile is the one who stores passes
