[Q] Extract CSC from a .tar - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hope this is not a dumb question, but I am quite desperate . Well I need to flash the csc and the modem from my original firmware, because I want good signal and language and the other stuff that came with it. What should I do in order to get from the original firmware only csc.tar and modem.tar to flash via odin? TIA

If you look near the bottom of the opening post on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
There is a bunch of csc packages. Depends where you are from?

I saw that thread, I also download a pack, but there was the hole rom in a .tar. Not csc, modem and pda. I am from Romania

The firmware version that's on the device has to support your language, a CSC or Modem package cannot add this to the firmware.

Can someone explain how can I extract/create a new tarball for the CSC or the MODEM from the bundled tarball (PDA/MODEM/CSC)?
And how can I create a "frankenstein" tarball with given PDA, MODEM and CSC?

I really want to know this too. I want to use XWKJ2 official firmware with ZTO (Brazil) CSC; according to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 the latest brazilian firmware is UHKI1, but the only individual CSC package is ZTOKE2. Is there a way to get CSC from UHKI1 firmware and put it on XWKJ2?

You can try flashing a CSC from the firmware thread then. But why did you install KE? It's an old one.

You have the wrong software for your country
I think you need to flash XEN XWKF3 with Odin.
Download and install: http://www.multiupload.com/6Y37MAMVEQ.
After installation and reboot go back to recovery and wipe data/facory reset and cache and than reboot.

Clarification on Firmware Details

I need to know what the Phone PDA and CSC mean/is it same as AP CP and CSC in the *1234# menu? Is there a thread which explains this?
I am new to Android rooting flashing etc, but was a symbian developer. Is the codes similar to to product codes in Nokia for firmwares versions?
And if I do flash a firmware with a diff CSC code or AP (I dont know which is different) will it work. And also will I be able to go back to my original?
This is my screenshot of my phone's code, I am from Chennai, India.

I know this thread is very old but i am still replying because sometimes when you search on GOOGLE for these kind of answers and you end up here with just the Question but NO Answer then it feels bad :crying:.
So, here is the Answer to your First Question:

AP, CP, CSC correspond with PDA, PHONE and CSC respectively.
Once again:
AP = PDA
CP = PHONE or MODEM
CSC = CSC

Kind of but not totally. Combination of AP, CP and CSC are much more complex than that of Nokia firmware versions.

If you do flash a firmware with a different CSC code or AP then your Phone might not work properly ie. you may have problems in recieving Mobile Network, Wifi, Radio, etc. Worst case is that you may Brick your phone (though this is very unlikely)
Lastly, Yes you will be able to go back to your original firmware by flashing the original/stock firmware for your phone using Odin 3 provided your phone is not bricked. :fingers-crossed:

As i said its in the stickys basic faqs and guides .
PDA refers to the build version of the software/firmware
Phone refers to the baseband/modem version
CSC is the consumer software customisation and is specific to geographical region and carriers. It contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS etc for your service provider.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.

AP CP and CSC which is product code ?

Method to get Andorid 10 on your Note 10 Exynos now!

Hi,
This is one of my first posts so please bare with me. You will need to download a few programs to get this working.
The first is frija. LINK - https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4886005&d=1574653611
Above app is not mine all credit to the dev in the link.
Secondly you will need Odin I'm sure you can all source this yourselves.
After downloading and installing frija, open the programme and search for SM-N970F CSC code DBT
Continue to download the firmware and then flash with odin.
Simple method if you cant wait for it to be rolled out in your country.
I am not responsible for your data or devices, follow the steps at your own risk.
This should work for note 10 plus also, just change the model number and keep the csc as DBT
can i keep home csc ?

At this point I assume that the same one will be released also for the exynos versions in April/May.

How to make sure I have the latest modem and bootloader installed?

I am currently running:
Build: ALEXNDR.N960FXXU6FTJ5
Baseband version: N960FXXU6FTJ1
>MAKE SURE YOU HAVE LATEST MODEM AND BOOTLOADER INSTALLED!
Getting ready to flash a new rom, but I haven't done this for a while.
1) How do I check what modem version I have?
Based on the I *think* the modem is "FTJ1", but I'm not 100% sure.
2) How do I find out if there is a newer modem available?
3) What Bootloader version do I have? Is it "6" (the 5th character from the right in the Baseband version)?
Download the latest firmware from samfw.com. Since that website source builds official Samsung servers, the latest firmware there should be always the latest.

Yes, no problems. I have done this a few times before.
@Cyndaquissshhh what's the trick to downloading the firmware? I click it and it won't download...
Oh, there are three buttons (on some pages there will be four). You can either download it from Google Drive or "Download SamFW server". I don't recommend "download on browser" since the downloaded file would get stored as site data. As you can imagine that's not a good thing...
I find their site to be very confusing. Thank you for your help, @Cyndaquissshhh . I finally ended up download a file named "Samfw.com_SM-N960F_INS_N960FXXU9FUK1_fac.zip".
Can you (or anyone) verify that I have the correct file?

If there's 4 tars in it, choose what it says. Like if it says AP, then choose the AP in Odin (you'll have to use ODIN ofc)
I don't know how it goes for newer devices but I had to always choose only a single file and then flash..
@notnoelchannel the .zip file has 5 files that all match up as you said (AP, BL, CP, and CSC) but the 5th file starts off with "HOME_". Does that go in the "USERDATA" box in Odin?

Don't use the HOME_CSC (i guess)
You need only 4 files, try flashing the 4 files but don't put the "HOME_" one
But as I said I don't own a Note 9, so I recommend to ask someone else :/
But if you choose all the files, it will flash the whole stock rom back!!!so don't!!! only BL and CP as Painkiller-axel said
Thank you. I have other questions regarding the flashing process but I think I will start another thread so this one doesn't get too confusing for people to read.
