Ok I been looking for a good protection for my phone since I'm going to return the horrid Otterbox Defender. Too many problems.. sharp edges, screen in portrait can't type anything on the edge of screen, belt clip plastic is thin and cheap broke the little clip that holds the holster open to double as a kickstand.
Can someone recommend me a good case with holster that does not limit typing but does have a holster. A holster is a must but I can always get a $13 dock to hold the phone up instead of a kickstand for my desktop http://www.ezestand.com/index.html.
Not sure. I also need a holster for work, and it must be tough case. I have the Defender and love it, but I will buy the Ballistic HC when it's released. Check it out if you haven't already. If you want just a holster, check eBay.

Did anybody here buy the holster from the tmobile store that they have that the g1 supposedbly fits in?
its around 24$ i think.
It was closed by sort of 2 clip things.
i'm primarily looking for a horizntal belt holster...
any ideas?
i have the body glove, it is in that price range. love it if thats what your asking
Theres a magnetic one, that fits a sidekick, it's what i use.
Body Glove
I have the Body Glove also and it's great. Perfect for the person (like me) who is rough on phones. And it looks good too.
I purchased the crystal gel case from boxwave It covers the G1 completely and offers excellent protection for when you drop the phone. I also bought the niteize side belt case. It clips on your belt and the elastic allows it to expand enough for the phone with the gel case on it to fit. This case closes with velcro so there are no magnets to create problems.
I got the one from the T-Mobile store last week but it's not the up and down one. But I have to admit was worth the money (even though I didn't end up paying for it love the gf) The one I got sits sideways but very nice and fits the phone well. Was a little snug at first but about 2 days later the phone just slides in to the case very nice.

I talked to a TMO rep at the store and said no accessories for G1 should have any magnets due to the compass feature. He advised that if you are going to use an aftermarket case, to make sure it doesn't have any magnets. The case TMO sells are magnet free for the G1.
As for the holster, I have it and though it fits the phone snug, be careful as the screen is facing out so make sure you have a screen protector.
I just bought my G1 last 2 weekends ago with a tmobile store belt clip, fits perfectly, sturdy rotating clip for horizontal or vertical placement, gets annoying having to take it out to text or open keyboard but otherwise perfect...24$
the pleather tmo horizontal case with attached clip. it's soft but not screen friendly soft on the inside so the screen protector is a must. great product though.
One warning. If you have a tendency to forget to snap the buttons, make sure you're using a hard or jelly shell to make the phone fit snugly. the basic stretchy straps on the sides are just barely too long to make the phone 100% secure IMHO without it.
i personally like this one.
http://www.fommy.com/view-full-page.asp?divid=T-Mobile&model=T-Mobile+G1&cat=Cases&skuno=82922
you can use it with the screen either facing out for in for screen protection.
I bought this one by Seidio. I had one just like it for my Blackberry 8820 and loved it. I love this one too.

Buy a bodyglove that has a belt clip for your g1 phone. You won't need to buy a suction cup or dash holder for your g1.
I clip it to my rear view mirror after pushing back the rear view mirror tab. Then I close the tab. Stays in place and very sturdy. It's even easier to see since it is under the rear view mirror and safer too!
I also can use the belt clip to hang the phone off my laptop. I don't clip it, just use the space between the glove and clip to hang it.
Also, the rubbery glove protects your phone if you drop it.
Does any One have a black otter Box cummtter .can u say ITs better then the defender .has Ur USB flap broeken yet . I'm on my second defender .
That's why I like to ask

I personally like the commuter better coming from the defender. The defender was too bulky and the rubber pieces aren't durable at all. So instead of getting a replacement I bought a commuter and never looked back.
I have the black commuter and have had it since July. The soft gel flaps are pretty tough. The hardshell piece at the top of the USB flab broke a week ago (very thin).
There is no holster, so I had to large enough case for it on Amazon to carry it on my belt. Commuter case seems to trap a lot of heat for the device.
I've had the Commuter since debut, and have not had one issue with it. All flaps are golden and show no signs of tearing. I use both numerous times throughout the day. Best case I've ever bought fir the Evo line. I can't believe I used those bulky ballistic cases as long as I did.

I have the Commuter as well...no problems to report here. My USB cover is fine, no tearing. I am careful with it tho.
My only complaint is the lack of holster.
I'm also on about day 5 of my Commuter. It's awesome. I walked into a Sprint store and all they carried were the Commuter ($40) and Defender ($50). I took them both out of the box and tried them on and the choice was simple. The Defender was way too bulky for my taste, and the belt clip was so late 90's "Nextel"-ish for me lol.
Before the case, I could barely hold the slim phone when trying to type. Now with this case, it has the perfect grippy feel in the back, and it's not noticeably bulky when it's in my pocket. And the rubber protective flaps are a nice touch, no more pocket lint in the USB port every time I take my phone out of my pocket. And it was on a special discounted price! (5 fingers) Best $40 bucks I never spent.
I have had both cases. I like the Commuter case much better that the Defender. Not as bulky and the flaps are holding up fine. When the phone is in my pocket now, I have to keep checking to see if it's there. It is so light and thin. I bought mine on ebay for a lot less than Sprint also.
I've been looking around for the perfect kickstand case and so far I found a these two cases:
http://store.androidcommunity.com/seidio-active-case-with-kickstand/4A225A13441.htm
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-DROID-Holster-Kickstand-HTC6435/dp/B00AA5CCHE
The SEIDIO case has a cut-out for the back notification light and looks very nice, but it also looks thick and the description warns it might not work with some wireless charging pads.
The HTC OEM case looks good but doesn't have a notification cut-out and appears to be cheaper quality than the SEIDIO case.
Feel free to contribute if you find anymore cases that offer a kickstand. Thinner cases are preferred since it will work better with wireless charging.
EDIT: I also found this one http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=78496
...and this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-silic...125251?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item41705ea5c3
I think the "OEM" one isn't really OEM or HTC. It's a case Verizon carries for all of their phones. I saw it in the store, and I liked it a lot, except that it doesn't protect the front edges on the top or bottom at all. The Seidio looks a bit bulky. For now I have the VZW silicone one, and I'm just living without a kickstand. I hope that Seidio does a surface case with kickstand (surface is their thinner model), but we'll see.
I'm using the Verizon case and like it. Not a lot of protection but the kickstand is nice and I use it to help use the phone one handed. Also enough lip to keep the screen off the table when laid flat. I made a notification cut out with a heated up screw driver.

dowant.
Same here, I have the Verizon silicon one and honestly its fine other than not having a kickstand. It could feel better on the back but that doesn't bother me much.
If SEIDIO can make a thinner version of that kickstand case I'll be all over it.
Hi all!
Has anyone come across a nice holster case without a kickstand? I'm not really concerned with price.. Willing to pay for a good case. I see that seidio makes a spring clip holster for the naked device but id like to have it in a case. I'd like it as thin as possible (no otterbox for me!). I have found a few holster cases but they all have a stupid bulky kickstand!
Thanks
Check out my thread on a nice case with holster.

The holster is great. Of course, the main point is the case. For 39.99 idk of it's worth just buying for the holster alone...

I got this holster combo basically got the holster itself. I had one for my og evo and s3 and never once broke on me. To me it is worth the $40, I just get a case I like that fits in the holster.

I have the Encased case with clip, it's okay. Anyone have any other recommendations for a case/clip combo? Thinner is better, and preferably a top clip release, not center (the way I wear it).
Thanks
Best or one of the best is OtterBox Defender Pro. I use it and love it! It's certainly not thin but it's about the best protection you can buy. I accidentally knocked phone off kitchen table onto a concrete floor first day I had it. The case didn't even get scratched. So obviously the phone didn't either.
Supcase UB pro just as good as otterbox defender, way cheaper.
I used to get the Seido (Best buy used to sell them rebranded with their Platinum name) but have given up since I have so many cases that just don't fit the holder.
I use a holster instead which will securely hold any phone/case combo including no case!
I've been using this one for the past two years with no problem whatsoever.

It's cheap and just works. It can clip on a belt or if you want it secure you can thread your belt through it and it's going nowhere. I climb towers and the last thing I need is to have it fall 100s of feet. No case is going to prevent it from being trashed if that happens!

I ordered the encased holster and otter box commuter case, just got the holster and will have the case Friday. I let you know how it is. Currently using the otter box defender, I have the holster with the middle clip. Always used the seidio cases but I guess they're gone.
