Hi all.... i recently rooted a friends Hero, and went through perfectly fine (i have a hero myself, but rooted it in the old school way like 2 years ago haha)
i flashed the latest Villain 1.6 ROM on to it, and it has been fine for a while, but not he has been telling me its been weird, so i wanted to boot into recovery to wipe/flash a new ROM, but it just wont go into Recovery when i hold power and the home button...
Just site there with the Hero logo on screen...
I have gone into Terminal and manually flashed the latest Recovery, but still a no go!
any ideas?
cheers

I've had the same problem. So far, anytime I've needed to go into recovery I've simply used the reboot (long press power button select reboot ) and selected recovery.
I will give clockwork mod a try. Thanks for the info.

I have a rooted hero but when i turn it off and go to turn it on holding power and home i get a picture of a phone with a red triangle with a "!" in it does this mean im not rooted even though i can use wireless tether and other root apps. Am aldo wondering if someone could point me to a fast android 2.3 custom rom that would look nice thanks
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
You need a custom recovery image download rom manager and flash the clockworkmod that way
I have done that, pressed the power and home button did a back up and rebooted the phone. Just to nake sure its working i pressed the home and power buttons again and got the red triangle screen again
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Have another go at pushing the recovery image to your phone and try again.
Elelinux 7.0.0 is a nice GB rom... tweak the cpu speed n it will run fine.
I have tried that, same problem one back up then doesnt work
Is there annother way to put recovery one it ?
Thanks for that rom tho looks nice when it works gonna give it a bash
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Try pressing up volume and power or down volume and power because I don't remember which on because I think that how to get off the screen with the triangle

If thats the only option on the screen, maybe your recovery image is corrupt, your using clockwork right?
I use AmonRA recovery, follow the 'root and recovery' section of this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
Its easier than it sounds, You cant use Rom manager with this recovery image tho, you will have to download your roms manually and put them in the root folder of your SD card. (roms and updates come as a zip file)
Follow the instructions for the roms you want to flash, each has slightly different prerequisites i.e wiping different parts of your phones memory.
take care, have fun...
yep, i had the same issue 2 days ago, your customer recovery isn't working, and the home+power is taking you to the base one.
FINALLY WORKED FOR ME!!!!!
Used ROM manager to flash amonra recovery and did a custom rom flash straight away, then it has worked happily since
Running Elelinux 7.0.0 atm looks really cool
Ok, so I got my Electrify a few days ago, rooted it and everything went fine. Worked for about a day, but then the battery died. I charged it, but now it sticks on the Dual Core boot logo, wont boot at all. I'm terrified.
Can anyone help?
I've tried running Android Recovery (I get "Failed to boot 2")
I've tried messing around in FastBoot and with RDB, but I'm getting nowhere.
I'm desperate, and as the Electrify is new, I'm not having any luck finding in-depth help.
Anyone? You may email me if you'd rather communicate that way.

(I'm really sorry if this is the wrong place to post, I couldn't find an Electrify forum.)
Should not be in dev section. Mod please move.

I would try this first, it couldn't hurt.
Perform a factory reset using external keys
Note: It is highly recommended you use the above factory reset using the settings. If you are unable to navigate through the menu to perform a factory data reset, you can follow the steps outlined below:
Power off the phone, press and hold volume down button, press power button
Screen will come up with "Fastboot", press Vol down key to cycle through choices until you get "Android Recovery", then press Vol up key
Wait for the "triangle ! / Android" screen then go on to step 4
Press both Vol up and Vol down key simultaneously. A menu will come up
Tap on Vol down key until "wipe data/factory reset" is highlighted, and tap Power key. Another Confirmation screen will come. Tap on Vol down key until coming to Yes and tap Power key
After userdata is cleared, the "reboot system now" option will be highlighted by Default. Tap Power key
Phone will reboot to initial setup screen.
Hope this helps.
If you didnt put the 2.3.5 update on the phone (and I am assuming you didnt), then grab the Electrify SBF here and follow the instructions.
If you DID put 2.3.5 on the phone I have the SBF for that also, PM me for the link..
be aware 2.3.5 will lock your bootloader and there is no way to unlock at this time.
Thanks everyone. Got it fixed.
How did you get it fixed. I have the same problem... "Failed to boot 2" in recovery? need help. Photon on 2.3.5.... 254_3

umm... there's no SBF available for 2.3.5 users and you CANNOT use the 2.3.4 SBFs. i assume you don't have an unlocked bootloader and upgraded to 2.3.5 using an unlocked method.
give this a try... http://www.motosunfire.com/system/
it worked for another guy. so it should for you given it's only your system that's messed up. also if this doesn't work do a factory reset from the recovery if you can get into it. then try again.
Thanks. I'll give it a shot.

I had an issue kinda similar like this and ended up having to flash the RUU through the bootloader. It is the stock firmware 605.19, and I had to reroot. It's a pain I know but it works

I to had to this at one point and it does work. I would first try to flash cwm in fastboot though. Sometimes that works.

My friend's phone tried to pull an OTA while he had CWM recovery installed, and it started boot looping. Had to download the stock recovery, name is PG05IMG.zip in the root of the SDCard, and force the phone to boot to the bootloader and install it. Once it did, the phone started up, rebooted itself, and installed the OTA fine. Sounds like yours may be trying to do something similar?
If so rooted phones need caches cleared for the ota to work.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
From my understanding, Rooted can still take OTA, but you have to have stock recovery to do it (as I witnessed earlier). You will lose root, and will have to re-flash recovery to TWRP, CWMR, or whatever your normal choice is, and then re-apply the su.zip, but otherwise easy as pie.

Stock recovery PG05IMG.zip http://dl.dropbox.com/u/61129367/PG05IMG-Stock-Recovery.zip
Hello, first of all I would like to thank everyone who has posted in this thread to try and help out. I just started having a very similar problem- I'm rooted and running stock, but apparently my phone accepted an OTA and I'm stuck in a bootloop as well.
I got into CWM recovery and downloaded the stock recovery PG05IMG.zip, but it won't install. It just aborts every time I try to install it. I'm a noob at this stuff and not very good at dealing with these sorts of things and I've been having a panic attack for the past hour, so if anyone could help me as soon as possible I would really appreciate it.
I'm really scared of making things worse than they already are. I just want a working phone.

pull battery, wait a minute, turn on phone
when in bootloader screen,
volume down, select reboot
back to white screen, select recovery ( i had to do this twice)
hold volume up and power when black screen appears
choose the bottom option (wipe cache i believe)
choose reboot
phone should be good aftter this
( idont own a thunderbolt, but i had to fix this for a nother phone, called tech support and this worked)
hope this helps - hopefully saves someone from ruu'ing and wiping their phone

The zip won't work in CWM because it's not designed for use with CWM. It's designed for use in Fastboot. Should be on the root of your sd card. From off, if I'm correct (like this with other HTC devices), hold volume down and power to boot into fastboot. This will allow it to flash the stock recovery.

Right. I also have a recovery zip that installs the stock recovery if anyone wants it?
It can be found here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/61129367/OTARestoreAndRecovery.zip
(warning: I have tested it and it works but it did cause me a bootloop, and im assuming this is becuase im on a different rom - - - so not responsible for any damages)

Hi.
Please help.
I need to reset my phone to factory defaults. (as im sending it back to orange for a replacement).
I have rooted my phone, but havn't unlocked the bootloader. (rooted using peet's tools)
Its running stock orange UK 45.31.0.MB860.Orange.en.GB. (have never applied a rom to the phone).
I installed the CWM manager(months ago, as i was looking at the roms) from the play store, which installed the clockwork mod Recovery on my phone.
(however this i know wont work as i havnt unlocked the bootloder !)
Now when i try and perform a factory reset, (on button and vol down button).
I get the option for Android recovery.(as well as a shed load of other options).
When i select this with the vol up button, it errors with the following.
Failed to boot 2
Then when i press the vol up button the following is displayed.
Starting RSD Protocol Support.
I dont want to unlock the bootloader, i just need to ability to run android recovery and return the phone to its original state.
(So Orange accept the phone under the orange care agreement).
Please can you advise...

Thankyou so much for your help...
I found the correct sbf file for my stock Orange uk GB 2.3.4 phone.
and managed to flash it, all be it with a couple of heart stopping moments.
(whilst the phone restarted into different modes, windows started searching for drivers !!!. even though i had installed them already..
This caused it to fail early on !.. after the main download.
However a restart later, and another issue. the phone has now been flashed back to the correct stock image..
Note to self, ensure windows is never set to auto install windows updates....
flippn thing caused the usb drivers to reload for the atrix phone.
still. one happy atrix customer..
Thanks for your help !!.

No problems.
I performed a google search for orange.sbf and came up with the following.
http://www.das8nt.com/sbffiles.html
This has a load of sbf files..
Specifically, the one i needed was.
1FF-olympus_emara-user-2.3.4-4.5.2A-74_OLE-31-release-keys-signed-Orange-GB.sbf
This worked a dream, putting the phone back.
(ive now got this replaced by orange).
Good luck....
and remember, before you do it, ensure windows is set to not auto update windows updates !!!!....
:cyclops:
I've had 3 phones changed by orange all rooted with unlocked bootloader.. never had a problem. Tho I do pay for orange care package...
