requesting that this thread be moved to QandA or deleted as there are plenty of these threads already.

OTA update

I don't know wether this is a stupid question. Dunno much about rooting.thinking about rooting. But am anxiously awaiting the official jb update. Will I be able to update to this if I'm rooted? I mean if ota or via kies? Or rooting will prevent this? Pls shed some light!!!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
AFAIK you'll be able to install the update without any problems, but you'll need to re-root after installing it.
So I don't have to unroot or anything and can just simply update without doing anything u mean?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
It is easy to do, took me under 5 mins today, don't be afraid to root
If it gives you any grief with OTA update you can un-root without leaving any signs of doing it there is some good guides online just google it. This forum won't let me post links here but try the galaxys3root website, their guides are very good.
I'm sorry, but I dint get u. U meant easy to root or easy to update?

As previously said, if you are rooted you can still update and use the OTA for it whereas after updating you will loose root and have to re-root.
To make it even more simple you can use MobileOdin which will root automatically during the update process.
And one more question is about the flash counter on s3. Does rooting start a count or only when u flash a Rom it happens?

rooting, if I understood well, does not increase the counter (?). whereas when you are rooted you can easily reset the counter with Triangle Away app, its just one click.
Are u sure??

How to prevent the update?

I keep saying no to the update but it still keeps trying to do it automatically. I put it in airplane mode but it still shows up. Does anyone know how to stop it?
I would like to know this as well because it's gonna update if I don't keep my eye on my phone

I deleted the checkinprovider.apk, cotaclient.apk, and updater.apk and the .odex files that go with them.
EDIT: It still wants to update
If you have a custom recovery it wont even install. so dont worry if you have one.
What will it do if I download it

It's the htcDm app that downloads the update
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium HD app
Once you download and defer install or choose to install it will it prevent it from asking again though? or will it continue? It's getting annoying.
What about removing the htcDm did that resolve anything?
Nits made a mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149417
(Mod)[2.15.13] Stop/Remove Verizon OTA V2 2.04.605.2 710RD
I still haven't received the notification to update. I live in Florida and am running SuperChargedHatkaDNA rom.

I'm guessing it's because you're on the LL4 OTA which patched the exploit. Follow the guide in development.

New ota update being pushed

I woke up this morning to an ota wanting to install. It came over during the night. Anyone know what it is or does? I sure hope it's a version update. 4.3 maybe! ? I have access to the download if any devs would like it uploaded.

Definitely not 4.3, see the below link to VZW support site. The file size however looks different from what the Instructions Doc says "System update size – approximately 329.5 MB".
http://support.verizonwireless.com/support/system_update/6872.html
I'll be blocking this with Titanium until I hear more.
How about this. Who is actually on MI1 AND has this OTA?
