I lost countless hours looking for an answer and still looking how to fix it.
after I rooted my SG2, the mobile wireless has no bars, checked to see if was the sim card, and is not as I have tested on my gf htc hero, and works fine.
I have then unrooted to see if the problem would go away
and is still with no signal when I try to call someone says
mobile network not available
here's the stats

Flashing a kernel shouldn't have done this. Sounds like you either flashed a firmware package that included modem files for a different carrier, or accidentally flashed a different modem, which isn't for your carrier.
Do you know what other carriers are compatible with giffgaff?
Is your firmware carrier branded? I would just flash the latest available firmware for your carrier if it is branded, or if not branded, KI3 or newer from the unbranded thread.
Carrier branded firmware thread is here.
Unbranded firmware thread is here.
dude i post a thread were you dont need to flash anything in order to have root reed this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321538

It's a little late for that. His problem now is not getting root, but getting his phone working again. I suspect he'll have no choice but to flash SOMETHING to get it functioning again.
I have used odin 1.85
then I rooted with this
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KJ3-v5.0-CWM5
I have not done anything else
and I have no signal inside my house
when I go outside I have signal, but is not the sim card, and was working before
this is doing my head in
my carrier is giffgaff
the phone is unlocked and giffgaff runs on O2
You want to set up network .
Use the GiffGaff Tools/Apn app from the market or Giffgaff forum.
Giffgaff will work as O2 PAYG if not set .
You say Mobile wireless do you mean WiFi if so nothing to do with GiffGaff try flash a different modem .
Root should not have caused a problem .
Are you sure you have a i9100 .
and I have no signal inside my house
when I go outside I have signal,
That is simply the network your house is blocking the O2 signal .
you can check your nearest O2 base station

You have a choice
One flash a modem from the modem thread .
Two flash full original stock rom from stock rom thread that will remove root .
Three ask the network is their work on the local transmitter .
Four ask the network to move the transmitter to your kitchen .
Why did you root ???
What is your current modem ??

Type *#1234# into the phone pad and what is shown against PHONE is your modem number.
As the previous poster suggested I suspect that you have inadvertently changed your modem. I am on Giffgaff with the original O2 firmware on the phone. The modem for this is XXKI4. I understand that the previous modem was XXKI3.
You can download one or both of these modems from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17967764&postcount=5
Please read carefully what it says. i.e. The zip files are intended to be flashed from your internal or external sd card using clockworkmod (CWM) recovery (you have this as you rooted a CWM kernel) and should NOT be flashed using ODIN. If you want to use ODIN then you can extract the modem.bin file from the zip and flash that from the PHONE section of ODIN.
Hope this is of some help.

When I search networks I do get O2 in the list. You wont get Giffgaff as it's not a network but uses O2's.
It may be that for some reason O2 are putting out a weak signal in your area. If your phone is unlocked have you tried sims from other networks to see if you get the same drop off between inside & outside the house. If you do then it would suggest it's the phone (hardware or firmware) but if you don't or the drop off is much smaller then it might just be an O2 signal problem. If you know someone who has an actual 02 sim then perhaps you could try that as well.
I know is not the Sim card, as my gf uses giffgaff as well and I tried on her HTC hero, and has 3 bars, works fine.
I just don't understand why when I rooted the phone the phone network coverage inside my house went to nil, and when I get outside my house and around town I have full bars and 3G is working, I only able to use my WIFI inside my house and Bluetooth.
which is a Pain in where the sun don't shine, because how am I spose to receive calls or call anyone in the comfort of my Home, impossible so people will be thinking that I'm ignoring them, or think I'm rude.
I will try other sim cards and see if that will be the problem.
thank you
you been very helpfull, will report back later
I sometime have this problem all i do is restore efs back using ktool. If you made efs backup using hc-ktool try restoring that and reboot. Your mobile signal will start working again.

I don't think I have made a backup,
I'm not familiar with Ktool

I've just noticed that you've put down your CSC as I9100oxaki3. Is this correct? Because I think OXA is a country code for Poland. If it is then perhaps you flashed a firmware intended for Poland. I don't known whether this difference in CSC setting would affect your signal. I'd always thought that the call side of things was handled by the modem and the XXKI4 modem is definitely UK compatible. I may be wrong though.
If nothing else is working then perhaps you could try flashing a firmware with a CSC that is UK specific, includes the UK or is generic European. Post #2 has a link to available firmwares.
I am not sure what suggest then. When i rooted my phone first thing i read was to backup efs using ktool which can be downloaded from market. Then i used cwm manager to backup stock rom. Check in your sd card if have efs folder if yes download ktool and use an option to backup efs and restore using the tool it will ask you if you want to restore by .tar method choose that. It all depends if your phone has efs folder and files init.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
As a relatively small network GiffGaff may not be in older or even newer CSC network lists /
Use GiffGaff APN tool .
OXA is Poland
You do not need a CSC to use the phone GiffGaff settings either manually or via the GiffGaff tool

Bought a galaxy sII
second hand
(well swapped iPhone4 for it)
however the amount of problems it has is honestly unreal and its one step from going through the window!
It goes from 100%-30% when it feels like it , and powering it off results in an overheating indicator ( yellow thermometer triangle )
and unable to turn on without going via: VOL UP+HOME+POWER
its come to the point where I need to just get it replaced under warranty.
however its been updated to ICS and i have no idea what was originally on the handset. i THINK its a Vodafone UK handset - but rooted and unlocked, therefore i need to try and figure what it would be on had it never been upgraded/rooted/flashed.
ill try post as much stats etc here as i can in hope that will make things clear to see what my problem is.

Use the PC version of Checkfus to determine what firmware was originally on the phone (you enter the phone model/carrier/country & the software will tell you original firmware), then search Samfirmware.com for it. Flash the firmware following whatever instructions they have for flashing firmware downloaded from their site.
OR
If you're happy with the latest firmware available for your carrier/country (may or may not be the original firmware which came with the phone dependant of whether carrier has issued firmware upgrades since), you can use Checkfus to download same. If you go down this route, flash the tarball you download following instructions here.

This is definitely not what it should be.
Try *#272*Your IMEI#. You can find IMEI in phone status. This should allow you to reset CSC to ZTO in your case.
WARNING! This will full wipe your phone!
So, i get this screen:
Preconfig
Sales Code ZTO ( I can´type in this text box)
an selection Box
Install and Cancel
When, i click in Install i get this error:
Must Be THREE chars.
This is exactly the same situation I had on my phone. You need to restore your CSC folder and then to reset CSC.
I did not find any universal method, how to do that. I have tried several samsung ROMs to try the one that helped me.
Maybe one of these http://androidfirmwares.net/PhoneFirmware marked with ZTO would help you, but I cannot guarantee.
You need to find such ROM that would allow you to use *#272*Your IMEI# successfully to restore CSC to ZTO.
Or if you have a friend with SGS2 running rooted Samsung stock ROM from the same operator, you can restore /system/CSC folder from his/her phone. But I did not test this way.
Hi, sorry for the dalay in responding
i did the following:
I downloaded the Odin Mobile, and install Rom again, and work, show me CSC, and my GS2 conected in Kies...
Thanks so much for your help
@kubics - Im having the same problem with crappy kies (lol) i was wondering if u could also offer me some guidance. I've unistalled kies and re-installed it with all new drivers with no joy

Hello friends
First i have to say that this is one of the most used forums for me when i have problems with some phones:good:
For good that I never had to post some questions and I found everything.
But now I have a problem with mi Galaxy s3
Some days ago I installed a new Firmware directly from the phone.
Before i had this one:
Ap: I9300BUALF1
Cp: I9300BULF1
CSC: I9300SWCALF1
After the Update the two Apps "Phone" and "Contacts" were gone
So I tought that i can download manually download my provider firmware and flash it with odin...
After the reboot of the flashing, first message was: "unfortunately massaging has stopped"
Then I checked the firmware:
Ap: I9300BUBLG3
Cp: I9300BULG2
CSC: UNKNOWN
so i tried to choose the CSC manually with *#272*MY IMEI#
There i see nothing to choose only the sales code "SWC" and a clear button. When I choose the clear button and try to install it he says "must be three chars"
In Samsung Kies i have a backup of my contacts an so one. But the kies does not recognize now my phone...
How do i have to reset or flash the phone to have my factory settings with all running local apps to restore the data from kies
Hope that you can help me
Bruno

This thread my help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845103
I have an S3 that I rooted a few ago, using CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.tar.md5 and Odin. The main reason was to use ClockWorkMod to backup an image of the phone.
Last week it started to play up. It regularly freezes and the WIFI will not connect. As I had it rooted, I tried the cyanogenmod 9.1 ROM. I still had issues with the WIFI on this, which led me to think that it was a hardware problem. I have gone back to my original backup (after rooting the phone), and it seems fairly stable as long as I keep the WIFI off.
I wanted to try reverting to the stock ROM, and if that doesn't help, I was hoping to try and get it sorted under warranty.
I was following the excellent guide on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710613 but I cam a bit stuck on selecting the stock ROM to revert to.
I'm on the Orange network but I got the phone from dial-a-phone, so I didn't know if I should use the unbranded ROM or the Orange ROM. Orange has also merged with T-Mobile, so there is a third possibility, EE.
Using the keyboard shortcut, my phone reports:
AP: I9300XXEMC2
CP: I9300XXEMC2
CSC: I9300OXAEMC2
Do these refer to the original software or the firmware I flashed to get root permissions?
Any advice welcomed!
Thanks
It will be unbranded BTU.
Dial-a-phone is owned by phones 4 u. All these companies (CPW etc) supply unbranded handsets so they can be sold on all the networks they resell for. That way they're never left with a surplus of O2 phones etc, because they have 1 stock.
If you connect your phone to Kies it will tell you your version, unbranded BTU will be like the screen clip attached, if you don't have that download it from Sammobile and install via Odin
