No RCA for the flyer? - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

I found this at Fry's Electronics and was stoked to try it:
http://www.amazon.com/OEM-HTC-Cable-DROID-Incredible/dp/B003ZK75U0
Though it didn't say it was for the Flyer the plug is the exact same shape as the custom ones that came with the tablet, so I figured I'd give it a shot. No go. Does anyone know if there is an RCA cable so that I can stream videos in the car? I enjoyed that with the Galaxy Tab.

I too would like to find an RCA video cable which works with the flyer, anyone know where to get one?

If you get hard up you can always get the mhl cable and connect it to something like this http:// http://www.amazon.com/Female-Gender-Changer-Adapter-Coupler/dp/B000I992XY/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1312852573&sr=8-11 and connect it to something lik this http:// http://www.amazon.com/Neewer-HDMI-3-RCA-Component-Adapter/dp/B0053F3022/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1312852723&sr=8-4

[Q] Is it possible to use a projector without the dock?

Anyone figured a way to use the gtab with a projector without the dock? trying to have as few gizmos as possible to take on the road with me.
If you want HDMI output without the dock you would need a custom cable from the g-tablet's docking port to HDMI and as far as I know, no such cable exists at this time. You can search these forums for "HDMI cable" and find a couple of threads on the subject.
I understand the desire to travel light but the dock really isn't that big or heavy.

Well my dock isn't exactly light but it is required to provide power to the HDMi output. I did purchase a HDMI to DVI converter for my projector and it works like a champ projecting from the gtab to the projector. Now if my mouse would work I could (almost) ditch the laptop. I have also found that most of the PowerPoint viewers don't 100% convert my PowerPoint slide decks to view on the gtab. It is typically some pictures on the slides that don't convert. I have roughly 16 slides out of 125 slides that don't project properly (can't remember off hand which program does the best job, but that is my best effort). I haven't had time to convert all of those slides although I had to teach one of my training classes today so had to lug the laptop along. Ideally a mouse or wireless remote to advance the slides would create a smaller travel kit. Good luck with the presentation. The dock while heavy, weighs as much as my Dell power brick so that at least is a trade off.
Hey guys...
this is a big question for me also...but I'm wondering if anyone has figured out a way to do video OUT of the USB port for powerpoint? Since most PPT is just static there shouldn't be a huge issue with BW (Even so, I've got a USB to VGA adapter for my laptop, so USB definently has the BW to pull it off. )
wonder if there's a simple USB to VGA adapter out there somewhere. I'll do some digging....
it's not that the docking station is heavy or anything, it's just bulky in a briefcase. I travel international all the time and want to leave as much crap at home.
Oh, and if anyone comes up with a good ppt editor / viewer lemme know.

Funny you asked about a USB to VGA adapter. I'm not sure if its video out or in??? The description says you can use it for dual monitor expandability which leads me to believe its a video in cable. Anyways, someone posted a couple days ago at another forum that he found that adapter. Its expensive though. Here's the link he posted...

That one is pricey
There are lots of those USB to VGA adapter gizmos.. but I have hesitated to buy one because I wasn't sure there was the right software available.. presumably you need at least a generic USB screen driver..
Anyone tried one of these with the gtab?

Your best bet would be to use a DisplayLink based adapter. These allow dvi or vga based displays to be connected via usb. They have also released linux drivers. It even seems as though they were able ouput video to such displays through an app called "Send to Framebuffer". I actually have a displaylink dock, so maybe I'll play around with it after class today. Check out the following link and scroll down to "External Displays".

I actually have some emails into Fommy and the mfg. of the device. Although on the Fommy site it list the G-Tablet and NI Adam, I have yet to find any information from the mfg that this device will work with Android.
It is a video out device.

HDMI Mirroring

I ordered the MHL adaptor from T-Mobile's website yesterday, so I should get it today (yeah, I paid the extra $6 for overnight shipping).
Does this phone support FULL mirroring (i.e., when plugged in to TV, TV screen mirrors whatever is on the phone's screen)? I used the full HDMI app on my Evo 4G, and it was great for watching shows from HBO GO on my TV.
Has anyone tried it yet? If not, is there a review out there somewhere that specifically demonstrates this feature?
I guess I'll know tonight when I get home from work!
Thanks,
Rob
I haven't seen it specifically on this phone, but I've seen the Qualcomm MSM8660 demos showing full mirroring. We should be capable of it, but I haven't tried it out yet.
I'm surprised nobody's tried it yet!
Can you use the normal micro HDMI or do you have to buy the adapter to use HDMI? Lol kinda confused how this works with the new port? Could anyone explain? Thanks
You need to buy an adaptor. Basically, it's a dongle that plugs into the USB (charger) on the E3D. The dongle/adaptor has a HDMI port on it, along with a USB port. You plug an HDMI cable into the HDMI port, and into the TV. You plug a charger into the USB port and into the wall.
So no, the HDMI cable from the EVO 4G (I have one too) won't work.
Does that help?

Thanks for clearing that up!!
Back to the issue at hand... does it do HDMI mirroring or not? I have this bad ass HDMI integration in my Prius that is preventing me from upgrading from the 4G until at least HDMI mirroring is confirmed.

According to this demo from CTIA it appears it can, but this is unfinished testing hardware/firmware so it's still not a confirmation:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ynmqtopi9g
This doesn't exactly give you an answer with the level of certainty you are looking for but it's a good sign. We should see some end users with feedback on HDMI features on the production phone streaming in any time now that hopefully confirms that it can do this across any application without problems or limitations.

hey rtmeikle . I also got the mhl from tmobile. I hooked it up last night to sadly find out that hdmi mirroring is not supported at all. It was all a big hype it appears. Were you able to get it working? I'm hoping that you were so maybe its just my device....if not, then this phone is going back.
Yep, I got mine yesterday and tested it. It works fine.
You have to have the adaptor plugged in to the phone, a charger plugged to the adaptor, and the HDMI cable running from the phone to the TV.
I got full HDMI mirroring which automatically switched to landscape when I tested Netflix and HBO Go.

interesting. thanks for the quick respond. When i connect it to my hd tv all i get on the phone is a message that says *HDMI play a video or slideshow to display via hdmi* on the notifications bar. When I click that, nothing happens...

Strange. The image of my home screen just popped up on my TV; I didn't have to do anything.
I tested it on the TV in my bedroom, a 3-yr-old Samsung 42" Plasma, nothing fancy.
Maybe tonight I'll test it on my other two TVs and see if it works on all of them.
did you allow the latest OTA upgrade or did you cancel it? I allowed it as soon as I turned the phone on. I also tried it on my 58 samsung plasma hdtv. Its not that old but also not that new.
I'm going to try it tonight on my smaller 32 inch lcd hd tv to see if that makes a difference. It shouldn't though.
Not like it matters since all MHL cables are the same but here is the MHL adapter I'm using: http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/AddOns...4ec1-a08e-e133fa772d53&inCart=True&catCode=23

Yep, I've accepted the OTAs. And I'm using the exact same adaptor. Did you plug power into the adaptor too? I didnt' try without plugging it in, but I've heard that it needs to be plugged in to work.
Ok, i finaly got it to work. It wasn't a problem with the phone but a problem with the tv. I had to change some resolution settings on the tv and presto! Hdmi mirroring on its full glory
Now, do you know if I can pair up a bluetooth keyboard and mouse? Thats next for me.
Thanks for all the help.

This is what I am currently doing. I have hooked up the following.
Mouse: Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000
Keyboard: Logitech MX5500 Keyboard
The keyboard works great. I can type in the applications and setup my keys in the emulators just fine (snesoid etc)
Mouse functionality though is different then you may expect. You don't get a mouse cursor, it just "highlights" selections then you "left click" to go forward. According to my research the right mouse button is supposed to "go back" but is not working for me.
I put up a thread asking others for help with it, so if I find an answer I will let you know.
Updating you on what I found out about the mouse.
"Well it looks like the fancy mouse support with a cursor and button functionality was something that was included in CyanogenMod 6.X then removed on CyanogenMod 7.
They then added a patch for version 7. But now apparently it is being included in his latest CyanogenMod.
Regardless, it appears you need root access "
wait so how do you charge your phone if you use that hdmi adapter? anyone have a link?

the adapter has a USB plug that you use to hook up to a charger, and will charge your phone. Newer TVs are coming that will support charging over HDMI via the MHL adapter, there may be some out but I think will be a standard in 2012 TVs.

[Q] Wireless HDMI out options for Transformer??

So I have been hooking up my Transformer to my HDTV a lot lately to watch videos and whatnot, and I usually just plug it in with a standard mini-HDMI cable.
Lately I have been wanting to use it from my recliner though.
I am contemplating just buying a really long cable but thought I would ask here first in case someone had any better ideas.
Wireless options? Dock options?
Fill me in if you have any info!!
Thanks.
no such thing. sorry. you can't really use the TF while playing a video, so why do you need to right next to you?
for dedicated appliance though, i'd recommend a roku. get the highest level one with usb input.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Buy this one http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mini-hdmi-to-hdmi-adapter-dongle-14308
It's the Mini HDMI to HDMI Adapter.
It's "Made in China" but it's cheap so it won't hurt to try.
And then if you want, you buy this: http://us.zyxel.com/products/details.aspx?PC1indexflag=PDCA20118&CategoryGroupNo=PDCA201113 - the NEW wireless HDMI transmiter-receiver
Then everything'll be PERFECT
hi, anybody here have tried that method?
Seems pricey. Once the HDMI is plugged in you won't be able to use the tablet for anything else anyway.
But once you've got everything hooked up, you dont have to get up to change the show or anything like that. You can do it from the couch itself.
I would say it depends on what kind of videos you're planning to watch.
If you mean simple video files then try dlna (example skifta), but this method can only stream compatible files.
And for youtube etc you could use hdmi adapter with wireless hdmi as recommended before, but i wouldn't because i would be afraid of damaging my port because of the weight.
Just my two cents.
greetings flogger
If you're looking to just control the transformer from the couch, have you thought of running a vnc server on the tablet and controlling it using a phone?

Samsung EPL-3PHPBEG HDMI Adapter

Does anyone now if this will work with the galaxy tab 7.7 WiFi p6810? searched the forums and couldn't find a definitive answer on this. Thanks!

All of the Galaxy Tab products designed to use the 30-pin connector should work. The HDMI adapter I had from my P1000 worked just fine with my friend's P7510, my old P7300, and now my P6800.
So, yeah, it'll work.
I have one intended for the 8.9/10.1, it works with the 7.7 WiFi. The USB adapter also works.
Just chiming in that it works fine on the 7.7.
I find it kind of ridicolous that the hdmi adapter requires power to function. It makes sense if you would be watching a movie but if for example you are holding a presentation and you want to hold the tab in the hand this is a serious problem, because of the second cable and the fact that the charging cables aren't so long.
Has any of you guys have any idea if this is a hardware requirement or if this could be turned of via software?
If not how does the picture-quality of the hdmi-cable compare to the quality of a simple AV cable?

I'm not sure there is a simple AV cable solution for the 7.7 afaik... I don't know the exact post, but I remember seeing something a while ago about someone trying the AV adapter from the original P1000 with no luck. Also, to answer your question about picture quality, standard composite video only allows for about a 720x480 or 720x576 resolution (depending on region), which is pretty bad compared to the native 1280x800 of the 7.7. Also the 16:10 aspect ratio of the 7.7 is wildly different than the 3:2 and 5:4 (respectively) ratio's of the other two composite displays, so everything will look all funky and unreadable...
Now, having said all that, I do know that HDMI provides 5vdc power via pin 18 (17 is the gnd), albiet, not very MUCH power (50ma max), but perhaps it might be just enough that one could make a modified HDMI adapter that tricks the tablet into thinking that an external power source is connected... Might be a fun DIY project!
Just a thought
HDMI Adapter - Picture but no sound
Hi, first time poster here, I've searched all the forums and posts I could find and I don't see any answers relating to this specific question, so here goes.
I have just got the Galaxy Tab wifi version (P6810) and I bought the EPL-3PHPBEGSTA hdmi adapter to be able to connect watch videos on my TV screen.
This gives me perfect picture but no sound at all. I have power lead connected to the adapter.
I have tried playing through MXPlayer, You Tube and standard video player. None of these give me sound.
I can use the same HDMI cable, TV and connection route and connect my galaxy nexus via MDL to the TV and I get both picture and sound.
I am connecting to the TV via a Denon home theater AMP which was why I checked that the phone was able to send on the same settings & cables.
I've not seen any posts with this same issue of no sound at all, has anyone seen this before? Or does anyone have any idea on what I am missing?

[Q] micro hdmi to composite a/v

i currently have a transformer prime and also have an aaxa p1 jr pica projector coming in the mail im hoping to set up something called the sixth sense device but im hoping to find a way to plug the projector into the transformer prime and im having a hell of a time trying to find a cable that will connect the 2
I picked up a converter from tiger direct.
Search for Sabrent HDMI to composite RCA/s-video. I've used it to watch movies on older TV's while traveling and it works great. the one downside I would say is that it requires power. But I believe thats the only option no matter which brand you go with.
I also picked up an RCA RF modulator to convert that to coax for real old equipment. it all works as expected.
thats what i didnt want to hear lolz i was hoping for something that didnt require additional power to make it mobile and like always i bought it before making sure it will work so i will need to just save up for a better portable projector that has mini/micro hdmi on it
A converter is the only way to go component. It sucks :-( . But if you don't want another power supply, pick up a HDMI to dvi cord and an headphone jack to l/r speakers.$20 bucks at radio shack.
