Flashing rom from internal SD with Rom Manager... - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

seen as how the new clockwork mod in Rom Manager doesnt support the external sd card yet my question is can we flash roms from the internal storage. Ive been doing this stuff since the Droid 1 came out but i've never had to inquire about this.
if i wipe using fastboot will it wipe the rom off the internal storage before i can even flash it? Hmmmmm

What about the flashing roms from the internal storage rather than ext. sd?
Thanks for the reply

Fastboot wipes the internal storage? It shouldn't.

[Q] SD Card

Quick question everyone. How do I, and how should I format sd card for flashing GB rom from kaos froyo?
seems that most people have had good luck booting to recovery, mounting usb in recovery, formatting sd from computer, disconnect usb from recovery, then flash whatever rom you want.
I used the format option in recovery and formatted mine that way then connected to my pc and mounted usb to copy the rom and gapps to my sd card and flashed while still in recovery.

I did this exact same thing.
Thanks guys!
I'd like to note that I have all sorts of junk on my SD card, and haven't had a problem with any GB ROM yet.
BUT...I use Clockwork Mod through ROM Manager, which when wiping data, wipes the .android-secure folder, which is most likely anyone's trouble if they "merely" use Amon RA's wipe data option, which does not wipe .android-secure.
when i boot to recovery in the phone it tells me to reformat the sd card from adb. how do i do that?

Afraid an ADB expert will have to answer that, I've never had that problem.

[Q] ROM Change now stuck on dualcore screen

I just switched to the Neutrino v2.2. Tried GT first then the EE. both are not going past the dualcore boot screen. I formatted my SD card before installing the rom. Not sure what i need to do to fix this. I can still get into recovery also but IDK how im going to put another rom on the sd card to try another one any suggestions?
This is a known issue with Neutrino at the moment. All you need to do is when it gets to the Boot screen just pull the battery and boot again, should work after that.

tried that 2x will try again..
Also, I noticed you said you put it on your sd card. I think you need to install it from the internal storage. Just boot into recovery and go to "Mount storage" and select to mount the internal storage and plug into your computer. Should be able to move files then.

you can move files w/o being able to get into the rom?? btw i tryed battery pull and still stuck at the boot screen :-/
I can see my sd card but my "g" drive is not avail..
Yes. Which recovery are you using? When you boot into recovery there should be "- mounts and storage", select it and at the bottom there should be "mount USB storage"

yup seen it and did it. I see my SD card in mycomputer but the G drive wich is my internal is not accessable
That's weird because "G" usually means External for me. Anyways, try selecting "mount emmc" in the same menu

actually mounted all of them so i knew i got the right 1 lol maybe that is the problem is the emmc folder..... is there a way i can "reflash" ext 4 or 3? i still have the emmc but if im not mistakin thats what the ext 3 or 4 creates.
That's just how CWM reads the file structure. If you can access it then it will work when flashing by selecting "install zip from internal storage".... I think. It's been a while since I have had to use it that way. But if you can access the internal storage then try putting the ROM zip there and retry flashing from internal

Thats the problem. I cant access the internal i just can access the sd card where I already put the zip file :-?
Well, you can put another ROM zip there that can be flashed from external. Also, make sure to perform the wipes necessary, either through fastboot or recovery. Hope you get it worked out.

could the problem lie with formatting the EMMC?
Possibly, at this point you're probably looking at a full wipe anyways so it shouldn't hurt anything.

I appreciate all your help bro
full wipe as in fact reset/delete cache and dalvik if so i do that each and every time I switch roms
Yeah, that's what I meant. Although, some people recommend doing the full "fastboot erase [partition]" wipes if you are going from a Blur based ROM to a CM7 based ROM, and vice versa.
boot into fastboot
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase webtop
fastboot erase preinstall
fastboot reboot
NOTE: when using this method you should already have the ROM zip on your phone and when you give the "reboot" command be prepared to boot directly into recovery (by holding Vol down after pressing "Enter") as this method erases the system.

[Q]Lost Internal Flash Partition of Moto Atrix 4G

Hi, All
Once I formated my internal flash partition of moto atrix 4g wrongly with ext4. And I found the internal flash partition was never recognized by system any more. I tried to flash new ROM of ICS, but no luck. Is there any way to get it back as original? Thanks in advance!
You should try doing it via moto-fastboot:
moto-fastboot erase sdcard
That should enable you to at least format the internal memory in the OS.
By doing that you will, of course, lose all files from your internal memory because of the format.

[Q] how to delete all files that have accumulated from flashing custom roms

I want to remove files that have accumulated from other roms. In others words like stock, but with custom rom. I like Beanstown106 with SD swap.
Thats a little tricky with sd swap but you will have to painstakingly go file by file and see if it's something you have deleted to something that you are still using. If you have any apps that created a folder and are gone for good then you are safe to delete. But avoid any system app folders and anything that you are still using like pictures, music and so on avoid.

thx for help
I'm installing cleanrom ace 4.9 my goto rom next to beanstown106. No SD swap and I was thinking of formating SD card. Now how do I erase what a factory reset won't delete.
I usually wipe EVErYTahING wenever i flash something new sd card and all just to start from scratch but all i got on sd card is pix and music so its easyily backed up

How would it end up being useless? Its no different than a pc...your reformatting and installing the OS on a clean slate.
I was thinking if I formated the internal it would delete recovery as well. And had no way of installing a new rom. Thx again really help full.

I want to clean up my directory structure. If I format the internal and external sd using recovery (TWRP) to wipe everything, what rom will boot? Will my custom rom boot or will the original verizon rom boot? Will I have to unlock the bootloader again? Thanks.

you will lose all data and need to reflash the rom in recovery...no you will not have to unlock again, nothing performed from recovery will overwrite the boot.img.
I was scared of the losing my OS as well, but it's not that hard. Treat it as two steps. Formatting your sDCard, and then prepping your SdCard by doing a Nandroid backup to your SdCard, and copying a flashable ROM (and kernel if your ROM does not flash a kernel) to your SdCard. Before formatting your SdCard copy anything you want to keep to your computer. I just copy the whole card to my computer.
Reboot and do your data resets and wipes, including internal storage (format data in twrp) Then flash your ROM that you put on your ext SdCard. Your nandroid backup is your insurance. Worst case you boot into recovery and restore your backup.
(But you should still have a working toolkit or ADB on your computer and you can recover from any screw up)
As long as you have what you need on your (ext) SdCard before wiping internal storage, and you only do a data reset and cache wipes and only do 'format data' you will be fine.

I have this doubt for long time? wiping internal storage ie 2.2 GB in moto e ( total 4 GB ) cause any problem when installing custom ROM?
when I reset last time I found nearly 200mb space went missing out of 2.2 GB, that's why I am asking?
Do not wipe internal storage unless you have a complete ROM ready with you in your internal or external memory for you to flash. Wiping internal storage wipes the entire 4GB emmc which means you are wiping off all partitions including bootloader. If you accidentally reboot after wiping internal storage, your phone will never switch on. So be careful, only wipe system, cache, data and dalvik, nothing else.
ok i accidentally wiped off my internal storage as well. now i am not able to install roms .. what to do?

No worries mate. Just copy your ROM into a external MC, insert it and boot your device into recovery and install the room

Did you tried wiping everything again? Maybe problem with the download?
Btw MD5 not found isn't anything to worry about. Its just a hash check and can be skipped.
I recommend trying a different ROM like AICP.
installed successfully !! there was an error in downloaded zip re-downloading the file fixed the issue.. !
