[Q] Bought chinese sII and having some problems - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello,
i just recently bought my SGSII in China and i'm unable to navigate certain apps because they're in chinese and i cant read chinese letters. The android market for example wont let me change the language to english. Factory reset sets everything back to chinese letters.
i have android version 2.3.3
baseband i91999xxke4
and build number xwke7
i dont think my phone is locked to a certain provider/telephone company, im using a prepaid SIM
Is there a way to change my firmware/kernel/whatever (sorry, im new to this phone-hacking) so i can reset it to an international version and can access the android market through my VPN client in english?
Would someone be so kind to point me in the right direction to flash my phone with the right software?
Thank you in advance

Follow these directions and see if it works...
From the homescreen, press the Menu key and go to Settings. That would be the item with the gears icon.
Now you need to go to "Languages and keyboard". Since you can't read the label, this is the one with the icon that looks like the "A" keyboard button.
Select the first item on the list and see if English is one of the items you can choose.

thanks for your reply.
the thing is, i have done that already. so all the menues are in english, but most of the apps stay chinese... i cant delete them and i cant change the language of them (i let my chinese friend read through, and he didnt find the option to change it)
so i was thinking of flashing my phone to some international version of android, so i can access the global android market, not just the go-market for the chinese market.
thanks anyway any other solutions?

probably u can root it and flash with a European standard ROM. not sure about the mobile wifi after that but backup everything before u do it....

Better if you flash something like Litening rom where you don't have to go in rooting and all to flash the rom

thanks so much, man! once i get those friggin' USB-driver working, i will go with Lite'ning ROM - looks very easy to setup

Interesting but I dont know why...

i was trying to modify registry for permanent sms delivery report but deleted the whole 'Setting' by mistake!!! so i have to hard reset and everthings gone for sure...after that, i found everythings in english...by the way, the rom is english version but, it did support simplified chinese display and the seller didnt install anything when i bought the phone. so im confused...
i searched some local chinese sites for the solution and the easiest way to solve that is to install some support pack but i dont wanna install anything becoz the phone should support chinese itself. so im thinking...
ok, later i take the sim card off the slot and hardset the phone again...once more, everythings english...great...english...
ok, i insert the sim card into the slot and press power button...AFTER the power is on...SOMETHING IS BEEN INSTALLING...and after that...THE PHONE DOES SUPPORT CHINESE AND THE DATE IS CHINESE!!!
wow~i really have no idea why this happened...maybe the phone recognized the sim card and KNEW its china so it installed everthing that supports CHINA automatically? LOL~
anyways, its done...im happy with that...
well, mayby some of you guys could tell me why this happened...interesting, isnt it?
here are details of my phone:
MDA with 64M @ win 2003 in English...4.01.12(?)
thanks for reading and this the longest post ive ever posted in china or nba board...lol~

Unrecognized by the local service provider in HK ("3")

I have just upgraded to Schap's 4.01 ROM (used to use a Traditional Chinese ROM). Everything works fine, except that when I tried to access the homepage of my service provider ("3") through IE, it was unsuccessful and got an message "Unauthorised Device Detected.........". Anyone can help? Thanks.

I was exactly the same case as you. I am also using 3, and had upgraded my ROM recently, and then find out I cannot access mobile.three.com.hk.
I had take the phone to 3 shop on the street, the guy also not sure what's the problem, but suggest it is because the new IE does not support WAP page, but only HTTP page. And he suggest me to take the phone to Mongkok service center and there will have more techical support.
The error message you saw on the IE also happen on one of my phone which brought outside, not from 3. So i thing 3 will need to have special version of IE or program to support their WAP portal. And that's why the phone they sold were different to others on the street.
Back to our problem, i will try another ROM to see whether it can help.

Thank you very much for your info. I have also called the Customer Service and am stilling waiting for their reply. See whether there is any luck.
it should be "3HK" portal will identify the model of each phone access its 3portal. If it is not the model they sold, it shows unsupported device.
it should be the user agent problem. someone said wm6 ie user agent embedded on browser.dll, u cannot change on registry.
but another also said schape's advance config tools work for wm6 in changing user agent. so that u can browser 3portal after changing user agent of IE..
u may try and post result here too!!
hope this help u
I had change my device back to one of the ROM that i use before, and i can browse the 3 portal now. That is a Dopod offical HK ROM.
Below is my ROM info
ROM version: 3.54.708.2
Radio Version: 1.47.00.10
So it must be related to the ROM or IE version.
I tried what jc917 suggested by using Schape's Advance Config Tools and found the following string in the User agent box within the IE tab:
"PPC; 240x320; HTC_TyTN/1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 Mozilla/4.0" .
I changed the word "HTC_TyTN" to "Dopod_838_Pro", "Dopod_838Pro" and "Dopod838Pro", but none of them worked. I even tried to leave the whole string blank and it still didn't work.
So, I gave up and did what yskw1024 did: restore back to the Dopod 838Pro ROM. It works then. After that, I used the Advance Config Tools again to check and found out that the User agent box was actually leave blank. Unable to figure out what's wrong. It is a pity that we can't use Schape's ROM.
BTW, the Customer Service came back and said that 3 currently does not support WM6 (though I don't think this is the true answer).
try to change the wap agent dopod838 using schaps rom to N73 or SEK800 like this
"NokiaN73-1/2.0628.0.0.1 PPC; 240x320; Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 Mozilla/4.0"
or
"SonyEricssonK800i/R1L Browser/NetFront/3.3 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1"
then u can go to 3HK portal using schap's rom
but another problem is that, schap's rom will make 3HK sim card do not have manual serach operatior (network) function
or simply do this
go to HKLM\Security\Internet Explorer\User Agent
delete
"CustomBase"="XXXXXXXXXXX
add new string
"Custom"="Dopod838Pro"
then softreset
this apply to custom rom only, officail rom not work!

Baseband unknown

Good for everyone!!
Sorry for my google's traductor english
I mention my case to see if with the help of all I can restore the phone.
After spending hours tinkering with the phone, turn it into a paperweight and reliving me realize I can not find a way to make the phone work properly.
The phone lights up, root access and the latest Cyanogen rom installed with the corresponding recovery.
The problem is that once you put on the sim that puts you never recognized. It asks me the pin and when I try to enter the dialpad to put a sequence to know, for example, if you have a lock on (step I made when the phone had the movistar rom) or simply to know the imei, it is trying to call and not open the menus.
I do not know if discovered and can serve as something that if I go into Settings - About Phone ANRO I have the version 2.3.5, 2.6.35.7 Kernel Version-perf-CL591990root @ dell126 # 1 and build number GINGERBREAD.XWKS3 . What baffles me and maybe come around the problem is that in the field puts Base Band Version Unknown. The same if I go into state gives me no information network, imei, network status, etc..
I tried also to urge a new modem, but not for that.
Has anyone had or has the same problem?
I appreciate your help in trying to help solve the problem.
If you need any additional information, be alert to tell you.
Greetings!

[Q] Mobile Network Not Available - Samsung Galaxy S2

Hey guys,
This is my first post here so please be nice I will try be as informative as I can!
Last week my aunt got a Samsung Galaxy S2 as an upgrade after my recommendation. She loved the look of things and liked how she could access Youtube and Facebook but then she got locked out of her phone completely and couldn't get back in because she didn't know her Gmail account.
After a bit of research I found out that I should do 'Hard Reset' and all should be back to normal afterwards, I did so and everything looked okay.
After giving the phone back to her my aunt said she no longer wanted it and gave it to me because it was too 'complicated'. Obviously I was overjoyed as my current phone does not even compare to this beast!
I put in my Orange sim, (hers was Orange too) turned on the Wi-Fi to update all the apps not even noticing that the 3g icon wasn't on. I could see the phone had some signal so I thought everything was okay. It was only when I tried to call my dad of the phone that I realised something was wrong. It said 'Mobile Network not Available'.
I have found many threads about 'rooting' or IMEI but I don't understand what they mean as I am a newbie in all of this.
I would send the phone for repair but it does not have insurance so that's a no go. The phone came unlocked too so I don't understand why it's doing this. The sim I put in works on my old phone so I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with it.
What should I do?
Looking forward to your replies
See * HERE *
Remove your battery and your sum card.
Wait 10 seconds put them back in and reboot.
If problem still exists go to
settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks. Select your carrier network.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Thank you for your replies samgalaxys2 and dred_up, I appreciate it!
I tried doing what you said samgalaxys2 but nothing's changed, I tried doing it myself before but no luck
In reply to your questions on the other thread I can confirm that my sim works as it works on my old phone. I can also create contacts on the sim too.
I don't know what the EFS folder is but when I dial that number you said (*#06# ) I can also confirm that the IMEI is the same number shown in my settings and underneath the battery.
What should I do?
Wiska.
The fault = put your sim in the phone then not working .
First step has to be to get a new sim .
That would be followed by either a return to a service centre or via XDA a flash of new stock firmware .

Have you tried the Access Point Names in the network settings, mine changed it's self after flashing a new rom.
Hello JJEgan, I have tried various working sim cards and it doesn't make a difference, I even tried a brand new T-Mobile sim. In the 'About Phone' section I can clearly see the Sim's name but it always says Out Of Service underneath.
I have tried that too s.d.oconnor, at times it doesn't work and when it does it says something like 'Network Updated' but nothing changes.
What do you guys mean by 'Flash of new Stock Firmware' & 'Flashing new Rom'
Sorry for the amount of questions guys, I have never experienced something like this before

Hmm okay,
I followed the thread and had to do it at-least 3 times before I could do it 'correctly'
I managed to get Ice Cream Sandwich OS on the phone and although I could now use the sims internet I can't use it to call or access my voicemail.
What can I do to fix this?
If I have to download a new rom could you copy the link because I think that maybe that's where I went wrong?
I am sorry but I tried my best as it is my first time doing all of this.
I think the Rom should be an XX as the phone and myself are in England plus my network is Orange
Wiska.
You can use the Dutch firmware XEN without problems...
Also is your fone a i9100P (NFC) or standard i9100?
Or take fone into Orange or a Samsung repair centre to have it checked out.
Hmm do you recommend I Flash it again and get XEN?
Do you think they'll repair it even though it has been flashed? I've got ICSandwich on it and I don't think Orange has released it yet lol
I tried to change the APN but nothing is happening

If it was a Orange (UK) branded phone, then first download, install and run Triange_away app. This will reset the custom rom flashing counter and take away any triangle at boot up (if present).
Next you need to download and flash the BVKJ4 rom from * HERE * - it is the latest official Orange UK ROM. It will wipe the phone to factory setting and you will loose root. It may solve your problem, but if it doesn't it will put your phone back to valid warranty for the service centre.
Sorry for the late reply, the amount of work college gave us yesterday was just too much!
Thank you for the link fred_up but the links are dead
Thank you for trying to help though, I really appreciate it mate!
Anyone know what I should do?
Search for the stock rom you're after on Samfirmware.com.
Edit to add - Make a note of the rom details from Intra's thread (the one you were linked to where the links don't work), that will make searching Samfirmware easier.
Thank you MistahBungle!
I am downloading what looks to be the firmware I need right now so fingers crossed it works!
Many thanks for the help mate! I will keep you updated if it works or not
I tried the latest Orange one but that didn't do anything, I then tried using the Carphone Warehouse one and although the 3G internet stuff works I can't call or text!
This is so annoying lol, any advice?
The phone isn't locked or anything as my aunt gave it to me, what can be the problem?

[Q] Using Motorola XT605 without sim

Hello, everybody. First, I am posting in this subforum because my particular device doesn't have a subforum. Feel free to move this thread if it may belong to a more appropiate subforum.
I'm going to describe the device briefly, since I think it's not very known outside my country (Chile). The XT605 (Known internally as Motorola Jorian, and as Motorola Master by my network operator [Nextel Chile]) is a GSM/UMTS device, with PTT functionality (it has a dedicated button for it). It runs Gingerbread, and there are not even official ROMs for it (Motorola's webpage doesn't have it). It has QWERTY keyboard. It seems to be the GSM version of Motorola Admiral (which is CDMA, sold in United States by Sprint/Nextel, I think).
Now, my problem is that I can't use the phone without a SIM. I've tried editing build.prop, starting with camera button pressed, and trying to use "Boot Android (No BP)" (the option doesn't even exist in the Fastboot menu). It keeps stuck in "Emergency Calls only" "No SIM". The phone works well when using SIM.
Also, if I put another operator SIM, the phone asks to delete all private data before allowing me to use the phone. I don't know to which data exactly refers to, so I haven't proceeded with it.
Thank you in advance, and sorry if I made some grammar mistakes.
Nothing?
Bump. Same phone, same country, wondering how to root it. Glup.
I no longer use the XT605, but Motofail can be used to root it.

Hi Buddy,
Maybe it is a little bit late, but doing a quick research I found out this http://www.taringa.net/posts/celulares/16686324/Firmware-Motorola-Master-XT605.html
It is the official firmware for the Motorola XT605 Nextel Mexico, yet it might work with your carrier, it basically is the same.
This saved my phone from being a brick.
Now, my problem is that I can't use the phone without a SIM.

I dont't know why, this happens but this is not present with the firmware I'm using, try flashing this and see what happens

Just for information for other users, the Nextel Mexico ROM works well with the Chilean version of the XT605. There is some bloatware, but it can be easily be removed with ES File Explorer or Titanium Backup (once you are root, though). Also, there are some OTAs available, that you can get before rooting (when rooting, you lose the ability to receive OTA updates).
hey guys i need the fastboot driver for this device i cant get rsd lite to recognize it
i really need it so if u can help somehow itll be pretty cool
