How's the sound on this case? I have the Platinum (branded seidio case by BestBuy) but the rubber covers the mic hole muffling the sound. I wanted to make sure that the mic hole was unobstructed.

I've had no complaints so far. I tested it just now and heard no muffling

A little update. I dropped my phone in the street off the bed of my truck. The case took all the impact from what I can see but it didn't get scratched up or anything. I love this thing

Best case on the market right now for the Evo 3D. Just received mine 2 days ago. So far I've tried obviously all the cases we have here at TPU-Cases, which are great, but lets be honest TPU doesnt provide a lot of protection, the Otterbox Commuter, Case-Mate Pop, and now the Case-Mate Tough. The Tough is actually less bulky then the Pop and feels great in your hand. You will definitely not drop your phone when you have this case on! Also a bit easier to get the Tough off the phone then the Pop or the TPU cases since the inner layer is a removable silicone. No way can you get the Pop off the phone without pulling off the battery door too. I've figured out how to take the TPU cases off without pulling off the battery door as well, but it's not the easiest thing in the world. I definitely recommend the Case-Mate Tough. I'd be surprised if the defender really provided too much more protection and its a much smaller form factor. I wish the Tough or the Pop would fit in the iGrip car dock. It's damn close. You can use the dock to hold the phone but you wont be able to charge the phone with the dock. If it wasnt for that I would use the Tough full time. As it is now I switch back and forth between the Tough and one of the TPU-Cases Smoke Matte cases.

Just ordered one. I have the barely there case but the lack of protection it offers me is disappointing. Looking forward to getting the Tough in the mail thursday.

I'm sure you'll like it. I have three cases right now and this one has been the best. I will put up a review on the commuter and also a side by side comparison on the two.

people really like this that much more than the active case by seidio? disregard the complains about the tabs breaking though as ive never had that happen here and they deff seem more sturdy than the 4G's case was.

I had 3 active cases for my original EVO 4G, all of the plastic parts ended up snapping off or breaking. I respect the case for protecting my phone but I got tired of being out 20 bucks every time the case did its job.

Normal waist high drops or drops from my lap or something while I'm sitting. Nothing too extreme. Normal expectations for a case.

+1. The one I had on the Evo broke twice. On the Evo 3d I cracked it from a drop off a desk so I canned it.

As you can see the tough case is slightly thicker but it does feel like a stronger case. And I can't say enough on the rubberized finish it has. As a plus, the corners on the tough case are part of the hard backplate whereas the commuters corners are just silicone.

Damn shame the Commuter covers all the ports. They'll eventually tear off. The Tough doesn't cover any, does it?

No the tough has no coverings on ports, but really the commuter only covers one which is the charging port. They both leave the headaet jack uncovered.

Do they make a holster for this case? I had the same case for my OGEvo, but have been rocking the Platinum one with holster from Best Buy. Kind of like not having big phone in my pocket.... But I really liked the case

Acase for Evo 3D

"Acase" case for Evo 3d, similar to otterbox commuter. The case comes with 2 screen protectors as well.
I really like this case more then the commuter. The back shell has a nice touch to it. It feels well protected and thinner then the commuter. No problems with sound from speakers. And the one thing i like the most is the camera is protected.

Me too, lol.
Nice pictures and review. I personally use the defender because of how hard I am on the phone at work, but that would be a great case to use if you want a little smaller phone (as most know the defender makes the phone HUGE.)
Looks really nice, thanks for sharing! I have to many cases already, but I may end up buying this one too anyway... I'm a bit of a case whore...

I received my case last week. Here are my thoughts..... I like this case a LOT.
Pros
- Fits great, like a glove. There is nothing loose.
- The case is fairly thin. I previously used a generic version of the case mate barely there, which is thinner that this, obviously, but this case does not add that much thickness to it.
- Buttons for power and volume as very easy to push and feel the clicks when the buttons are depressed
- If you notice the pics from jtgarza3, you'll see that the silicone wraps around nicely onto the screen. Unlike other cases, there's more of a 'bump' at the front of the case. I think this makes the case feel less bulky when holding (A PLUS IMO) and it keep the screen off the table when face down.
- Hard shell case has the soft touch paint and wraps around all side of the case... more so than the Otterbox and CaseMate versions (which I think are bulkier)
- 2-layer protection should offer some protection from drops [cushioning of the silicone and hard case protection] ... at least better than my generic barely-there case.
- Thin - yes again.... That's my biggest requirement to have a good case with protection, yet as thin as possible. It think this case gets me there.
- Price - For $10 you cannot go wrong!
Cons
- The silicone does attract some dust and lint, but not a magnet by any means. But you will notice a layer and with a quick wipe will restore it to the nice slick black silicone look..... this is really the only downside that I have so far.
If I had to rate this I give a 9 of 10. Knock a point for my only con.
Hope, this is helpful for those on the fence or those looking for a nearly perfect case.
Edit: Just to add that I also own a TPU case from TPU-Cases.com (smoke matte style). While I like that as well, I still prefer this from Acase. Plus I found the smoke matte TPU case to not have any real grip.
for those with the case,is it sticky when putting or removing from your pocket?i have the commuter and noticed its hard to remove from pockets...also noticed that it has actual plastic protecting the four corners...as opposed to the commuter which uses the silicone to protect, which is useless cause i dropped mine and the silicone compressed back and the ground scratched my phone..thanks for the post...will be picking this up..

it is real easy to remove from pockets and does not stick or peel like the commuter. I have the commuter and prefer the Acase over it.

+1 The hard case, despite having soft touch paint is not tacky or sticky.
I just got this case in today and while I like it a LOT, its probably not going to replace my TPU matte back black case for daily use.
Pros:
- The case is really high quality, well worth the $10 and should probably be sold for more than it is.
- Case fits really well, all the cutouts line up perfectly.
- Case adds minimal bulk, similar to the TPU cases.
- The buttons are extremely easy to push (vs the TPU cases which require a little bit more effort IMO) and you definitely get some nice tactile feedback.
- On the areas of the case where it isn't covered by the hard shell (camera module, around the ports/buttons, etc), the silicone is significantly thicker/reinforced.
- The soft touch paint feels really good in the hand.
- Like the fact that the cameras are protected to the max vs other cases that just have one giant cutout for the entire module.
- Easy to take in and out of pocket.
- Comes with a screen protector and microfiber cloth (already have a screen protector installed so didn't try out the included one)
Cons:
- Like most silicone-based cases, the silicone liner is a major lint magnet.
- I also don't like how the silicone lining comes right up to the edge of the LCD on the left and right sides (covers the black rim that surrounds the screen). This may arguably provide more protection but aesthetically speaking, it doesn't look as good to me as the shiny black rim from my TPU case that only comes up to the edge of the device (and not the LCD).
- Speaking of that rim, the one provided by the TPU case feels slightly thicker/more substantial than the rim provided by the silicone liner around the LCD. This is important to me because I feel the TPU material would provide an ever-so-slightly larger buffer between the LCD and the ground if the phone ever got dropped face first (but I'm really splitting hairs here). The silicone also feels like it would compress more vs TPU material if dropped, so that thin buffer/lip created by the silicone around the edge of the LCD might not be as good as TPU material at keeping the screen out of contact with the ground if the phone was dropped face first (pure speculation on my part though).
Aesthetically speaking, I like the TPU case better but that's just my opinion. The Acase may provide slightly better protection if the phone was dropped on its back or on its side due to the silicone/hard shell combination. But the TPU case may be better if the phone was dropped face first due to the slightly larger buffer/lip the TPU case should provide between the LCD and the ground. In the end, both the TPU case and the Acase are fine options and I don't think you can go wrong with either one (I will probably end up switching between the two of them every so often).
Just got this case in the mail today. I used to use the Commuter case and I just figured that I would get used to the flap. Got annoyed and just took off the case eventually.
This case better than the Commuter in almost all regards. The only point where the Commuter is better is that the USB port on the Commuter is covered. Sans that, this case is great.

Well the Commuter has a really bad habit of loosening out along the top and bottom because it's not supported there. It's pretty much solved on this case.
And yeah I think it's thinner than the Commuter but it's not so thin as to feel bad. It's feels quite solid. Much better than the Commuter IMO.

Ballistic HC vs Otterbox defender

Ok im no pro at this so im just gona do my best lol. My gf bought me a ballistic case and it arrived today. When people take pics comparing cases it has helped me out in the past so im gona attempt to return the favor.
1) 1st pic is the 2 cases in the packaging. Ballistic is real fancy with theres its almost like buyin a dvd box set lol
2) 2nd pic is the 2 cases front view without extra rubber layer on ballistic
3) 3rd pic is a side view of same 2 cases as 2nd
4) 4th pic is front view of cases with extra rubber layer on ballistic
5) 5th pic is side view of same 2 cases as 4th
6) last 2 pics are of cases in there holdsters
I hope these help people who are deciding if they should buy ballistic. There down to $30 on ebay. It is a little bulkier. Im a slap the ballistic on now and give it a run for its money lol

deff worth the money... ive dropped my evo over 10ft and had it came out perfectly fine, then there was a "test comparison" against someones otterbox and to prove a point i chucked it against the wall... once again undamaged lol
Yea if i had to pick a case to drop off the top of a building lol id go with the ballistic. The cool thing about this case is if you dont need the extra rubber layer you can just take it off

yeah deff a nice perk if you dont feel like rockin the whole set up
Nice one thanks for pics, I'm just trying to find someone who will ship to the UK!
Can you comment on - Fit, quality, your impressions of the case?
The hardcase alone feels like it will protecr more then the otterbox would. The rubber silicon is alot thicker then otterboxes rubber. The built in screen protector also dosent leave the wet spot things like otterbox dose. I gotta say the thing i like the best is the holster. It dosent have that ugly curled up lip like otterbox which makes it impossible for people like me who like to clip the phone on the inside of there pocket
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Just ordered mine! I had an Otterbox for my HD2, but the design was better than the one for the 3VO (no gap at the top of the screen protector) I also have a Trident Kraken II but IMO it sucks, not protective enough, no dust filters and no built in screen protector.
The Ballistic looks to be the level of protection I need for my work and play
I had to get Grey/Black in the end as I couldnt find a Black/Black to ship to the UK for Under £80!!! Just ordered from Ebay £33 delivered - same price as Otter and Kraken. Now gotta wait 10 days... I'll post pics when I get it!!
I'm rocking the Ballistic HC right now, much better quality wise than Otterbox in my opinion.
Honestly, I don't trust any other kind of case on my phone.
Meshing around the speaker ports, which has already saved my phone because I walk in the rain. (COLLEGE KID D
Outer silicone addition is much thicker than Otterbox. (Seconded previous post)
The case itself feels more study than Otterbox.
Thanks for posting the pix. I have the Otterbox, but have had concerns about the gap at the top of the screen protector and the lack of mesh over the speaker. Ballistic looks like the way to go.
I had a Ballistic HC for my Evo 4G, it was awesome. I loved it. I ended up recently getting a good deal on a Trident Cyclops II. I love this case. I'm glad I got rid of the Otterbox Defender, the rubber was getting weird.
Anyhow, in my opinion Ballistic and Trident make the best cases on the market and Otterbox falls a bit behind them.
I received my Ballistic HC over a week ago.
I like it much better than my Defender. I'm able to use the entire touch screen with the HC, the Defender makes it difficult to get the Q and P on the keyboard, the HC does not.
I broke 2 defender cases, one within the first week, just from wearing it around. I've dropped the HC while on a single story roof, my shingle hammer fell right behind it and landed on it, blade first. It put a small nick in the case under the LEDs. They landed on a concrete slab that was covered in loose shingles.
The only downside, the plastic parts are glossy and show every little scratch.

That's my biggest gripe with the Defender, Otterbox has been doing this for some time, how could they make a case that makes it difficult to touch the edges of the screen? It's not for superior protection because the Ballistic HC and Trident both give you access to more real estate with more protection to boot!

That's my biggest complaint about the Defender. I hated having to re-learn how to type, just so I could have some peace of mind. Also a good number of people I spoke to on the phone were annoyed by its incessant creaking. I ordered the HC hoping it'd fare better, and I'm glad to hear that screen real-estate is not a problem with this case. Should be here by the end of the week, can't wait!

I broke the clip on the defender wrote Otter about it sent a pic they sent me a brand new case and holster and let you keep your old case and broken holster.
Trident makes you send your old one in takes about a week for them to check it out and send you a new one.

My HC arrived today!! Felt like Christmas all over again. This thing is a monster, and I like that about it.
Two initial concerns though...
- My Targus stylus is fairly non responsive (anyone have a different type of stylus they use successfully?)
- I'm mildly concerned about the kick stand. I won't be very surprised if it snaps off.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with my choice! I can't wait to drop it... By 'accident'

That kickstand will popoff quite a bit lol. But it snaps right back on. It only pops off when pulled to hard. I think that was done intentionally to avoid breaking it n half

Best thin case?

As much as I love how sturdy the otterbox commuter is, it really does add some girth to the rezound. Occasionally I would like to have the protection of a case without the bulk.
Any recommendations out there?
Sent from my HTC Rezound
Good title for post. I'm looking for the exact same thing. I haven't bought any cases yet.
Guess the ideal case functionality wise is thinnest possible, max protection, good quality material, solid but easy to remove if you have to pull the battery, reasonable price and has a KICK STAND!!!
Been searching but nothing AFAIK. So currently my phone is naked in it's original birthday suit. I do have a leather belt case to carry it though; but would love the extra protection in case of drops and kickstand for setting it on table.
No love for rezound... accessories are so slow to come out or are out of stock (eg. case with kickstand... htcpedia.com/htc-rezound-hard-shell-kickstand-case.html.
Anyone ever get this case? Has it ever been in stock? And is it good? Otherwise I won't wait for this case and move on.
I've actually gone through 3 cases and I ended up going back to the Commuter. I bought the Incipio and Body Glove... both had their pluses/minuses but the Commuter ended up having the nicest feel (despite the slight extra thickness)
Seidio active is pretty sweet but I wouldn't call it thin. I'm not a case guy but have realized if I'm going to use one, it better work. I've yet to see a thin case that gives me the confidence that this one does.
KORM via the beast known as the Rezound.
Have you tried the "High Gloss Silicone Cover" that they sell at the Verizon store? I was very skeptical about it when I saw it in the store, but since there weren't many choices at the time, I tested it out and was pleasantly surprised.
It's smooth on the outside, yet gives you enough grip that the phone will not slip out of your hands. It also fits the phone VERY snug.
I got one of these:

It's funny that you mention that case as I just ordered it yesterday on Amazon. I am not normally a fan of cheap cases, but the reviews were not bad, and for 5 dollars shipped may as well try it out.
Casemate "barely there" cases are pretty nice.

This is the case I use and love it. It fits the Rezound perfectly.

Don't know anything about this one but I hadn't seen it posted by anyone yet. I don't know, maybe it's new? Looks sweet though.

I've actually gone through 3 cases and I ended up going back to the Commuter. I bought the Incipio and Body Glove... both had their pluses/minuses but the Commuter ended up having the nicest feel (despite the slight extra thickness)

For me, the whole point of having a case is to have my device protected. So, if I have a little more bulk as the price, i do not mind. I have seen so many people complain (not here) about a case being ugly or too bulky, and then they drop their phone and break it to pieces.
Which is better? Keepin yuor phone pretty and having to spend another $500 dollars on a replacement the third time you drop it, or just et a good case.
A thin case is no good for me. I commute in a subway and walk everywhere. I have dropped my Rez several times, and am so happy to have a Diztronic tpu case for the extended battery and a Otterbox Commuter for the stock battery.
i wouldn't trust a thin plastic case for anything.

I would recommend the cm barely there case if it were under 10 bucks. Had one on the thunderbolt and it actually saved the phone many times from 4 foot drops. Only got a few tiny nicks on the top edges of the phone oh and a slight crack on the case itself. About 2mm long. Screen on the tb still looks perfect even after 3 drops to the face. I do have a cheap screen protector installed on it though

+1 for Case-Mate Barely There. Totally minimalistic and yet provides just enough protection.
I have an Otterbox Commuter (quite bulky) as well as the Ditztronic case (terrible btw) and wanted a case with a fairly thin profile but good finish.
I had a Seidio Surface case for my Incredible and loved it so I decided to pick one up for the Rezound. I am impressed and in love with this case. It adds very little bulk while covering everything. The soft touch material provides a nice grip and is comfortable. I HIGHLY suggest this case.

anyone found a rezound case with a kickstand? i have seen a few for other phones, but nothing for the rezound
i currently use the Otterbox Defender series case which has saved my phone countless times. I work in retail so i can be doing anything from ringing someone at a register to throwing freight from trucks, to using heavy power lifting equipment and this case has protected is very well. it is extremely bulky about 2-2.5 times the size of the rezound, though the extended battery still fits in it.

+1 on the Seidio Surface. Feels great in the hand
I believe verizon sells a case/holster combo that comes with a built in kickstand for $30. Doesnt seem bad at all. Check out fleabay or amazon. im sure you can find one there for less than half the price.

[REVIEW] Otterbox Commuter Case (w/ Screen Protector) for Galaxy Note

Otterbox Commuter Case

Before I begin...
Otterbox is renowned for their premiere armor-like phone cases. I have owned many phones and two of which I put Otterbox phone cases on. Outside of Otterbox cases, I have tried countless cases at a variety of prices and quality. Some cases are pretty good, but none have the same appeal, protection, and reputation that Otterbox does. Upon unboxing the Otterbox commuter case, I discovered both international and US versions of the phone screen protectors. And, in the photos I have uploaded, you'll see that I actually have the international Note screen protector instead of the US version. I'll explain later...
Both Otterbox cases I have owned (Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy Note) are very similar to each other. Even though my Atrix had a Defender case and the Note now has the Commuter case, both actually give the same feeling of protectiveness, look, and feel. When I first put the Defender case on my Atrix, I immediately knew that Otterbox will be the case for all my phones in the future. Otterbox makes a plethora of cases for many makes and models of cellular phones, so I knew that we would eventually get these bad boys. I received mine yesterday and immediately ditched my previous case for the only case my Note will have protect it again.
Also... In my opinion, Otterbox cases speak for themselves and don't need actual reviews, just someone saying, "Go buy it now. You won't regret it."
The Look...
One word to describe this case would be: Armor. The way this case looks with the polygonal insets to connect the soft silicon to the hard shell casing gives it a great look. There are slotted cross dashes on the back of the case with Otterbox's logo near the bottom. The classic sloped front fit around the screen is also present with this Otterbox case. Everything about this case is sleek, stylish, and protective. Great looking case.
Defects? What defects... There were no defects present on this case, nor were there on my first Otterbox case. I expect this type of quality from Otterbox. If anyone has experienced defects with their Otterbox case, please comment and give some insight on the customer service portion of the Otterbox company.
The Fit...
Putting this case on the phone was more trouble than I thought it would be, but I welcomed it, since every other case I had up to now had yet to give me the right fit I was looking for. After about 30 seconds of initial fitting, the case is on and the fit is amazing. The tightness of the fitting of this case is great. It gives a great secure feeling to the phone that no other case has provided.
The power buttons and volume buttons are covered by solid elevated silicone, which provides just enough resistance to where it wont accidentally be activated by walking or bumping into things from within the pocket of your pants. The 3.5mm and phone charger inputs are covered by silicone flaps that are inset into the case. Both inputs are large enough to provide the physical connections with the cords without being obstructed by the case. The spen opening is generous and allows for easy removal. The speaker has an opening through the case as well.
The protection...
Apart from the protection that the case itself provides, Otterbox provides a screen protector (for both versions of the note) as well. Pretty straight forward screen protector, two films surrounding the outer and inner surfaces of the protector. It comes with a small microfiber wiping cloth and the squeegee for those pesky air bubbles. I started with the US version of the screen protectors (duh) but for some reason, i got dust on the protector itself and it was just a mess from the beginning, so I went ahead and put the international one on. The only difference between the two protectors is the cutout on the bottom of the international one. Looks a little odd, but it works.
Conclusion...
My overall experience with Otterbox has been great. Both cases I have owned have been of the utmost quality. No other case provides me with the look, the feel, and the protection that Otterbox has given me with their cases. I am very pleased with this case and highly recommend it to anyone.
not to point fingers.... but do you work for otterbox? Just never seen someone go through so much effort on a review as far as the layout goes, if you dont work for them i think the effort is awesome.
No I don't work for otterbox... but I may have put more effort into this than I think was needed, lol

Can you take pictures of the empty case next to the note so we can see how much bulk it adds?
How sticky is it when you pull it out of your pocket?
What is the responsiveness related to the cover and the s-pen?

Ill see what I can do about the pictures. As far as the stickiness of the case... its actually pretty smooth. Comes out of the pocket pretty easily. The spen has great responsiveness to the screen with the screen protector on. No difference as far as I can tell with the screen protector.

I had an Otterbox Commuter on my late Dell Streak and it was really good but a little bulky. And it didn't have a cradle! On my Note I have Seidio Active with a kickstand and cradle, and I should say it's more elegant and compact with same level of protection. Just my two cents...

Nice review.
When the case is on, do you find any added resistance when putting the phone in or taking it out of your pocket? Thanks.
I have been looking for a case for my note for a long time. This one looks pretty damn nice. Do you have a link on where to buy it from?

Man ... U saved 3 Cents .. Hehehehe
Great case
I just bought this case a few days ago. All i can say that it is a very sturdy and rugged case. I would have opt of the defender for about $15 more but they did not have it in stock so I got the commuter.
Overall a solid case. Definitely recommend

Honestly the three cents is inconsequential. It could have been a couple dollars more and I still would have gotten it simply because the seller is SpigenSGP (who also happen to make the best crystal clear screen protectors I've ever used), and they have a 100% seller rating.
Nice review. Any problems with dust particles on the silicon portion of the case when pulling the Note out of a pocket? With other cases that has been my experience and the look of the case decreases due to it.

you get some dust but for me it was on the outside of the case. I got my commuter off amazon for half price! I dont think it makes it bulky like the other Otter box case but it makes it have a good feel in the hand. without it the phones feels slippery.

There was 5 available but they all sold for $7. The seller fb was excellent as far as selling otterboxes for Samsung phones. Talked to the seller before I pulled the trigger. He said they are bought in bulk with little to no packaging. I will be doing a review in here of it's condition.

My past otterbox, I cut the film off and just used a different screen protector for that same reason (dust particles). Tough to do to a $60 dollar case.
May have to pull the trigger and get one of these and take a little grief from the wife. I will defend my purchase by saying, "I dont want to crack the screen again like with my Note 2" (sad day).

Yeah I ordered one online for like 42 bucks after the returning customer discount honestly the otterbox felt like it was made out of cheap plastic all the way around it just felt ... well honestly it felt like junk I felt like if I dropped it the thing would just explode into a billion little small parts. The plastic wasnt very hard and would bend under small amounts of pressure the plastic cover felt like a super cheap cover that would be used for a display plastic on a toy box.
I am waiting to get my ballistic case before I review it but from what I have seen from all my past cases from them it will be a much better case. They tend to use hard plastic and gel outside covers for impact. I use to throw around my samsung infuse in its ballistic case just for fun never once did my phone get screwed up it still looks new and the case never opened. Hell half the time I had to just about break the case to open it XD!
I actually really like my Defender case. Granted, I have not dropped this beast, but the case (to me anyway) feels like it could take a pretty hard hit.

The ballistic maxx has a belt clip
Here is the ballistic maxx case.
I think the case is nice its not as nice as the first ballistic case I got in the sense that the one I had before this was all in one but the case itself feels REALLY durable not cheap by any means its a super snug fit I can barely pull it apart when I am trying... As for the case itself it feels like there is a lot more protection to it than the otter case when I felt them side by side.
The case also comes with a limited lifetime warranty so thats nice they will replace it if a part breaks for free. Also my ballistic case was cheaper than the otter by almost 20 bucks. I got mine for 42 bucks plus free shipping but I also got a ten percent discount being a returning customer its normally 49.99 or something like that will free shipping. Great case if you ask me
Ill check it out. Does the clip feel pretty durable?

Yeah the clip feels like I could hang from it LOL Its rather strong I have never had the clips from my cases break on me when I get ballistic cases at most the turning part of it gets lose but never has it broke on me the only part that has manage to break on me was the clip that holds the phone into the belt clip and thats was because I leaned over my truck bed and put all my weight on it. But they replaced the broken part for free all you do is send them a picture of it via email and they ship it the next day.
Edit: The clip does turn full 360 btw and it has little notches every small turn so you can set it to the angle you want and it will hold it. Doesnt spin around free and what not only after HEAVY use does it losen up and spin easyish I know my old clip use to spin a bit but thats because it was on my hip every day all day and moving around so much it use to move around after a while it losen the clip but it still managed to sit the way I wanted it to with no trouble just had a bit of play.
