[Q] Changing between adhoc & normal wifi - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Adhoc wifi connection. Would it be possible to use a similar approach for changing between adhoc and normal using Gscript as was posted for coby kyros (forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-860489.html )

[Q] wpa_supplicant for gingerbread

Hi, anyone has a patched wpa_supplicant for gingerbread that could do adhoc
wifi? Tried with stock but can't connect to adhoc wifi.
X10i rooted running WB-XPERIA TW Gingerbread v3.7.0
Just FYI tried the patched wpa_supplicant v0.5.11, v0.6.10, v0.6.10ah and all
of them giving me error when turning on wifi. Edited wpa_supplicant.conf like
suggested from other section but still nothing.
Hmmm seems like no one use adhoc wifi maybe wifi tethering is working on android 2.3.3.

[Q] Archos 101 G9 rooted does not seen adhoc wifi

Does anyone knows how to tell to the honeycomb to see also the adhoc wifi on the network instead of filtering them out ?
I'd like to share my wired adhoc connection of my notebook with my Archos and surfing in "stereo" mode
Thank you in advance.

[Archos 101 g9 8G + 'surdu_petru' custom Rom for FW 3.2.79.]
update
I've found a file twlan.ini and I've changed the WiFiAdhoc = 0 to WiFiAdhoc = 1.
But still the same problem. Archos did not connect to adhoc wlan.
I've tried to googling this but without success.
Do sameone has successfully connected with a "adhoc" network with Archos 101 g9 ? I mean, Archos is the client to connect to a pc in thether mode.
bye
Not currently possible to tether HC or ICS G9 to adhoc wifi ap.
After many days of researching there is no current solution to tethering a G9 to a adhoc wifi connection be it HC or ICS. My quest has failed.
The only hope seems to be if someone can modify the archos g9 ICS version of /system/bin/wpa_supplicant (seems to be hardware dependent) file similar to what other developers have done for other devices such as the Xoom, Adam and Prime (I've already tried the wpa_supplicant files that are used with these devices, no joy). I don't think that's going to be likely due to the relatively small takeup of the G9. I've also tried solutions based on minipulating the \data\misc\wifi\wpa_supplicant.conf file as well. I'm giving up finding a solution on the G9 side of the equation and will probably un-root it back to factory default. I'm also thinking of selling off my archos g9 101 hdd turbo and buying a windows 7/8 tablet but thats another story.
I've been trying to tether my G9 to my Windows Mobile 6.5 smart phone via HTC Wifi Router. I've scoured the web, read numerous articles, tried all sorts of procedures to no avail. Its time to upgrade the phone OS with something that will operate in Infrastructure wifi AP mode. I'm going to try out the WinMo android dual boot solution posted at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=938669. I'll report back my findings if anyone is interested.
I've attached the wpa_supplicant file thats in my ICS G9. Its a version 0.8 apparently.
Good luck if you are still searching.

I've your firmware 4.0.4 rooted, no support for ad-hoc in the wpa_supplicant
and the old 3.2.80 didn't had too
there is no way to have ad-hoc support for archos until now
AdHoc doesn't work for me on my phone either but with the CyanogenMod7 ROM I use on my phone, tethering works wirelessely!
It just works! I don't need any apps I just toto
Settings, Wireless and Ntwks, WiFi Tethering.
It works.
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
I confirm that AdHoc does not work on the tablet (like connectify or through ubuntu). I have a lg optimus one with cyanogen and AdHoc works perfectly. with this tablet I have tried tons of market applications to run AdHoc's wifi, but at best, they will break down the wifi... ciao
Finally got it tethered to my HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium) !

After almost giving up trying to find a solution to tethering my G9 101 HDD ICS to my WinMo 6.5 phone (only supports Adhoc mode) I decided to try out running Android on my HTC Rhodium (Touch Pro 2) using the XDAndroid (many thanks for your efforts, some beer money coming your way ) stuff over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1. Its a dual boot solution allowing me to switch back to my trusty faithful WinMo 6.5 EnergyROM. Its a doddle to setup.
I'm now able to tether my G9 to the Android version running on my phone using the built in WiFi Hot Spot function (Infrastructure Access Point in Open Mode) in Froyo. Happy happy days.

wpa_supplicant

hi can anyone give the proper wpa_supplicant for ad-hoc support please.
i tried wifi adhoc enabler from market but after applying it, whenever it detects adhoc network it detects it like
(*)test network.
when i click on it for connect it replicates its name and the process go on.

[Q] Ad-Hoc WiFi Connection?

Is there anything I can do to my rooted phone for it to be able to connect to Ad-Hoc WiFi hotspots? I have JoikuSpot on my old n97 with unlimited data plan, but android doesn't see Ad-Hoc connections :\
Every Ad-Hoc enabler I tried so far kills the WifI connection so have to wait for updates.
I tried a modified wpa_supplicant.conf in 'data/misc/wifi' (not wpa_supplicant in system/etc) to ascend the priority=1 to adhoc network. It works fine.
I didn't need to root my tab(as i used adb of Android Commander to push the modified wpa.conf)
After pushing the new file, chmod 666 and chown the original user.
Disadvantage- for every adhoc network you wish to connect you'll have to do the same. It doesn't enable adhoc forever.

iPhone 3G wifi tether not found..

Hi everybody,
I have an HTC Flyer P512 16GB wifi only, on Android 2.3.4, HTC Sense 1.0, softwarenumber 2.27.1114.32.
Now I want to access internet via my iPhone 3G A1241 16GB, which I Redsn0w jailbroke, and installed PDANet via Cydia.
I'm able to internet from my laptop via the wifi hotspot that I can now create with PDANet.
But for a reason I dont know, I can't seem to find any created wifi hotspots with my Flyer..
How come my laptop can access a wifi hotspot that I created with PDANet on my iPhone, but my Flyer can't?
I used search, but it must be a combination of; too specific & my lack of knowledge in this business ..
I really hope someone can steer me in the right direction!
Thanks in advance
Ok, I did some more research on the matter, I believe I now know I would need to root, SU, before being able to place an wpa_supplicant. Back up original. Turn WiFi off. Use Root Explorer to paste it into system/bin folder. Change the permissions on the file to rwxr-xr-x. Turn wifi back on. And it should show adhoc networks.
How am I doing?
If this is the right order, I still need to find out what root I should use, can anybody tell me that?
It is important to me that all the original buttons function, and I prefer no loss of options..
Appreciate it.
P'z
I now know I mixxed up roms with root in my previous post.
In the meanwhile I have S-off''ed my tablet.
I intended to install CWM along with it, but it displayed that it couldn't be done, and I should do it manually.
I'm now on a search for the specific method of installing CWM manually..if someone feels like jumping to my rescue, would be highly appreciated.
Oke, found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680
..but again, i am stuck ..the file the how t refers to (cwm-4.0.1.4-flyer.img) is no longer available at that address..
Have been searching for it on Google, as well as torrent sites..no luck..
Is there anyone who still has this file?
Don't know anything about using an iPhone as a hotspot. But you shouldn't have to root and do all that extra stuff to access a WiFi hotspot.
If using security on the WiFi hotspot, try a different type (WPA, WPA2, WEP). WEP in particular does not play well with many HTC devices (and not very secure anyway).
Thanks for your reply!
That's what my understanding was at first, but I tried several wifi apps next to my standard wifi, and what I can conclude is:
Standard wifi scan (via menu):
-can't detect my created hotspot
-can detect and connect with home wifi
WiFi Analyzer:
-can detect my created hotspot (with an AdHoc label, and when I try to connect it displays "Adhoc is not supported by Android platform yet!")
-can detect and connect with home wifi
WiFi Manager:
-can detect my created hotspot (with an AdHoc label, and when I try to connect it displays "Standard Android does not support connecting to IBSS (AdHoc) type networks")
-can detect and connect with home wifi
I read I would need to replace the wpa_supplicant file, but that can only be done once rooted..
Maybe someone has the following reuested file in his/her possesion?:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39399637&postcount=298
..would really help me out!
