[Q] G-Tablet - boot loop? - Need help! - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So a buddy of mine bought one of the Viewsonic G-Tablets, and attempted to root(if this is the right term), and I think he may have bricked it. After reading many threads here, and watching some videos, I'm quite confident now that we could get it back to working order, but after hours upon hours of attempts, I cannot seem to solve the issue.
Model: UPC300-2.2
OS Ver: 2.2
Tap UI Version:
1.0-2638
Kernel 2.6.32.9-00000-10.8.2-dirty
Build: FRF91
As of right now, the damn thing will not turn on outside of recovery mode. If you try and power it on, the screen never powers up.
If I power up in recovery, I also don't get a power up screen, until I run NVFlash. After running NVFlash, it will create partitions and boot up into the OS. Every functions at that point, but if I turn it off, and turn it back on, it repeats its previous offense; no screen power.
When I turn it on though, although no power, it does make a bing on my PC, to indicate USB is getting feed, but it does not try and mount the device.
I am not positive what he has done to get it into this mode, or what I can do to get it out of this mode. I've tried a handful walkthroughs and troubleshooting threads but they have not resolved this problem. Is this common? What are my steps to try and resolve it? He's coming up to the end of his RMA time, and he will soon try and see if he can RMA it, so I don't have a lot of time to futz with it, so I'm reaching out for help.
If there is any other information you need, please request, I just posted the basic info I found on the About tablet page
Thanks!

Can anyone confirm if this is an actual boot loop? What would make it so I have to nvflash each time to load this tablet; is it fixable, or is there an issue somewhere else with the device, that may just mean its bricked.

when you try to boot into recovery are you holding the volume up button and the power button at the same time untill it boot into recovery if it does boot then you need to wipe user data and wipe cash if not try to load clockwork mod do a search in the main viewsonic fourm to learn how to do this I hope this is some help Good Luck

[Q] WSOD brick

I have really enjoyed -and appreciated!- the work that folks have done here...been using this forum a lot since Oct - thanks!
But now I could use some help. I've managed to brick my gtab to the WSOD. I've searched and tried -several times- the different unbrick methods, particularly nvflash, but no avail - I must be doing something stupid/wrong.
The gtab boots to a white screen, whether 'normal' or 'APX mode' boot. If I connect with nvflash, sometimes it reads the USB drive, sometimes not (using Vega drivers under Win7/64). USBDeview shows an active connection as storage device.
Nvflash starts flashing, then (apparently) hangs; after 15 minutes, no change....
Since everything's white on white, all I can do it go by the 'symptoms' on my PC.
I didn't see anything specific to this in searches, and have tried (all?) other methods in the threads....
Anyone have any ideas?
Sorry to make my thread be a request for help, since I've really enjoyed lurking on the XDA boards for some time.....special thanks to you, Roebeet!
Thanks,
I'm no expert but I've had to use nvflash a few times already
APX should be a black screen (backlight off).
I assume that you can't turn off the tablet by holding the on/off button
for a long time (around 8 seconds or so)??
Perhaps you should let the battery run down completely until shutdown
(if the screen is locked on that shouldn't take all that long).
then try apx/nvflash again ...
Thanks for the fast response....
1. I have used APX mode before when it was a black screen...that's not happening, now. But I can power/+ and it boots into a mode (albeit white screen and possibly white font) that nvflash recognizes and proceeds to flash...or so I think.
2. I have tried full-power-drain to where there's no response from the unit at all, until I charge it, at least a little. Have done that several times, no difference.
3. when I turn the unit off (holding in power button), it will turn off.
If I power up in 'WSOD APX' mode, and keep holding the power/+ buttons, it will eventually toggle off (black screen) for under a second, then start up again with WSOD.
Pretty brick.
Thanks again for any/all advice.
Marc
Power on and Volume Up is Recovery Mode, which is why the screen isn't going back off like it should.
Power on and Volume Down is APX Mode. Try this and nvflash.
Sorry for the error - and thanks!
When I go into APX mode (-), nvflash will start and then hang (no response). I must be doing something dumb/stupid (like the power/+ (!)), but it's hung.
Thanks to all for your continued help...
You're welcome. I don't use windows for nvflash so I can't really help there other than to say to make sure you have the correct driver loaded and use the bekit 1105 image.
This: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
is your best bet for referencing what you need.
Yep...used that/those, as well....
Maybe I'll just boot up Linux and see if that'll work....
Thanks for your help
I've found Linux to be much easier for me ;-) Let us know how it works out.
Thanks - I've now tried it several ways, including Ubuntu and W7/64....
bat file now executes, creating partitions and copying img files, and ends normally. At that point, the driver loses the connection and then regains it. There is no change on the gTab screen, even after 5 min.
Powering back on -normally - goes back to WSOD, with a flash of black screen (less than a second) about 30s into it, then return to WSOD (although dimmer). Stays there (stopped it after 5 min).
Powering back on into Recovery mode - same symptoms as normal power on.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks again for everyone's time and consideration!

Phone keeps booting in safe mode

Hi all my phone has some how only boots in Safe Mode for some reason. I'm running CM7 and whenever I boot my phone it doesn't go past the LG logo unless I press a button. However, whenever I press a button it takes me straight to safe mode. I've used Xiaona custom recovery to fix the boot load but that doesn't work either. I'm quite confused and discouraged because I've tried everything I can think of to fix this. None of my buttons are stuck IMO. I've search endlessly for solutions but have forum none, for most people, rebooting their phone takes them out of safe mode, that unfortunately isn't the case for me.
I've spent probably 8+ hours fooling around, I only got this phone yesterday so you can just imagine going from a beginner who knows nothing to having to use ADB commands and stuff to try and fix their phone. I'm finally ready to ask or beg for help. Please help me
Just wanted to say I've fixed this issue by holding down ALL 4 of the face keys on the phone while it was booting up. You have to hold them down until the phone is completely booted up. However, this is the only way I know how to fix it, unfortunately I have to do this everytime I boot my phone but I don't turn my phone off much so I'm happy as long as it's working.

stuck on htc screen

well my phone is now stuck on the htc screen... help please
I was running meanrom 3.0 then dirty flashed 3.9. My phone would turn off randomly so i restored it to 3.0. Then my text messages wouldnt work couldnt send or receive. So then i full wiped, restored and still no text. Then I full wiped and hit reboot system. And now it is stuck. I guess it is stuck because i didnt restore or install a rom? I cant even get to the bootloader. So is this phone a paperweight now?
Hold power down, this will cause a simulated battery pull, the phone will turn off, wait a second or two then press and hold power button and volume down and you will boot to the boot loader. Be very careful next time
Edit so long as your phone responds there is almost always a way to fix it, you only worry when phone stops responding (screen off won't charge won't turn on)
I wish more people would read my guide I included problems (even this exact one) to help people avoid them
ok got to bootloader. THANKS
No problem I'm glad I helped.
Note: This exact problem and many others are in the troubleshooting section of my guide. (Sorry if I don't advertise no one will use it lol)
Yep.... you wiped the ROM and then tried to boot nothing.
yeah....this is clearly covered in my guide...lol

[Q] Device "soft bricked" - Help needed!

Hi guys, I was trying to flash a custom ROM for the first time onto my ASUS ME301T, as I was fairly sure ASUS was not going to update these devices anymore.
Anyway, now the device will not start. It will power on, and the first of the two ASUS start-up screens will appear (the non animated/static one). In the top corner, it reads "The Device is Unlocked" as was required when attempting to flash the 4.4.4 ROM. Beyond this, nothing happens. If I attempt to power down the device it simply reboots itself shortly after. The only way to turn it off is to insert a paperclip into the physical reset hole, or to let the device run out of battery.
Now before you tell me to go into recovery by holding power and volume down... I've tried that hundreds of times.. As well as power+vol up, although I don't know what that does. I cannot access recovery mode, as far as I know anyway. Further, the device is not detected by either of my computers (desktop or laptop, windows and mac) so I can't attempt to flash it through USB (unless there is a way to do this?).
The device does not heat up, the screen simply stays on the ASUS static logo. It doesn't power off unless I hold the button, and it quickly restarts. To provide context as to what I did to cause this issue.. It was working fine on its factory ROM, no issues, and I attempted to do another system reset to fix an issue I was having with TWRP. However, I accidentally selected the middle open, not RCK, not reset, but something like "boot into Linux" or something, I can't exactly remember. Anyway, like an idiot I freaked and powered off the device.. My guess is that this is was caused the issue?
Anyway, making this post here as this is my first time looking into/attempting to flash a device. Would appreciate some expert help before I use my tablet to prop up the books on my bookcase
Help me try to unbrick my tablet! (I'm not too hopeful though..)
Cheers

Ainol Numy 3G AX10t lack of information...shutting off during boot

Hi all, I have an issue with this model of Ainol tablet, Ainol Numy 3G AX10t.
It seems to be quite a rare model, since I'm fiding very difficult getting information about this.
Hopefully you will be able to point me the right direction, I have few experience with ROMs and all this stuff, but the lack of information of this tablet is driving me crazy. If this is not the correct subforum please excuse me and of course move the thread if necessary.
Let me explain myself, I've been using for few months this tablet with no problems, and I just noticed few months ago some problems with the battery, maybe with the calibration, the typical change in the values and all of that.
Now, my problem is that during the boot, the tablet shuts off. No matter if I try to hard reset with the POwer button or use a reset button that the tablet has.
Only thing I can do is press Power+ Volum Up and I get to a typical black screen with white letters:
Select Boot Mode:
[Volume_Up to select. VOlume_Down is OK.]
Recovery MOde
Fastboot Mode
Normal Boot
No matter what I choose, the tablet always goes black after pressing Volume Down.
Maybe I'm facing a hardware problem, but I would like to fatory reset the table and maybe install another rom, just in case the battery file is corrupted and that's the problem.
But I don't know how to access the recovery (or if it's even installed). Do you know if I can do something with the microSD and this Boot Mode selection? And do you know any forum or webpage where this tablet is discussed? I cannot even locate the stock ROM.
Thank you so much, I'd very grateful if you help me fixing my tablet, it's still quite new... And in the Boot Mode selection, the tablet doesn't turns off, so hopefully this is a software problem...
Regards
