I am posting this to report a problem, not only with my droid x2 but with everyone's droid x2.
problem: The droid x2 is unable to stream or watch downloaded 720p using Jetvd or TubeMate, while the droid 3 can.
Has everyone here used Jetvd or TubeMate. They are great programs, they basically allow you to watch youtube videos and download them if you like them. They both allow you to watch 720p videos/download them so you can watch them on your phone.
Now the problem is, the droid x2 does not allow you to watch hd video using both these programs. The droid x2 has a qhd display so i don't understand why its unable to play these videos.
While i was at the verizon store, i installed jetvd and tubemate on the droid 3. I discovered the droid 3 can play 720p videos using jetvd. I then went to the droid x2 on display and did the same thing. The x2 was unable to play these videos.
So i would like everyone to download jetvd. Do a search "hd" find a video thats 720p and try to play it because you can't.
So my question is this. Why? is this a rom problem? A program problem? Because how can the droid 3 do this while the droid x2 can't?
Open youtube app, settings choose high quality on mobile networks. Just watched starwars trailer in 720p
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
The you tube app does not play the video in hd, it plays the video at sub hd and stretches the image to fit the display. I had asked for you to download jetvd or tubemate and search he and select a video that shows 720p and try to play it. You can play it on the DROID 3 but not the x2
I wonder if this is a problem with the class rating of the microSD card. Anyone with a class 10 or higher want to check this?
Please could someone check. I am annoyed you can't play 720p youtube videos downloaded by jetvd or tubmate on the DROID x2 but you can on the evo and DROID 3
Just watched 300 trailer 720p hd. And 1080p transformers trailer. Streamed both. Class 10 sd. These are what the titles said. Did nit change any default settings in tubemate.
Edit.
I could not download and watch in. 1280- 720 res. Had to do the lower res 640-360 or whatever. Is this still 720p?

no 640x360 is not 720p. This is the issue i am reporting on.
Let me just clarify something. Tubemate can't play 720p or 1080p videos streamed. When you go to watch the video it redirects you to the youtube app in which case you are watching the vids in 640x360 resolution.
However Tubemate does allow you to download the videos in 720p so that you can watch them on your phone. Now you just said that even with your class 10 card you were unable to watch the downloaded 720p vids.
Jetvd can actually stream 720p and download 720p.
I am beggining to think this is a rom issue.
It has to be a rom issue, because I've seen the Thunderbolt handle streamed 720p flawlessly, and the eve 3d, betting any dual core phone can do it, besides ours

What are you smoking man... we all know the fact that Verizon's strong-arm, lock-down, "we own this, you don't" approach is the uber best possible awesomest most bestest romz evar. Verizon can't has no problems with their elite massive roms. If you can't play 720p on one of the fastest phones out there when 1080p runs pretty damn fine on slower, then it's just never not possible because Verizon said so. </sarcasm>
I'm sure it's a rom problem. Even a phone half the speed can do 720p using a class 10 (verified this one myself) with a near vanilla CM7 load (tweaked CPU settings only).
Can you really tell the difference on a 4.3 inch display anyway?

It's a 2.2.2 issue it was the same thing for the atrix

Ok thanks for the responses. I hope gingerbread or cm7 fixes this issue.
Well the gingerbread update did not fix this issue. This phone still can't play 720p!

Video issues on Dx2
I have installed CM10a3 rom on my Dx2 and discovered issues playing video. Youtube and other videos would play the audio but no accompanying video.
I found that Chrome Browser does a better job than other browsers, but not prefect. The Youtube app by Google and Chrome by Google play youtube videos that other browsers such as Dolphin would only play the audio (no imaging). This leads me to believe Google has something to here. I have Adoble Flash Player v.11 installed for Dolphin but Chrome does not us Flash. Could Flash and embedded videos for Flash be the video problem rather than the Dx2 rom or the Dx2 hardware? Does anyone have an idea why CNN videos or vids from non Youtube embedded videos not render the audio but not the images?

Its a kernel issue, flash is trying to call a driver or a module that wasn't included until later versions of a kernel and was a required upgraded for later versions of android.

Hi everyone, is it possible to play 720p (1280×720) movie on X10 smoothly? If so then which program did you guys use to convert and which encode did you use? Because I did try both .mkv and MP4 H.264 encoded and it seems to be lag or super slo-mo alike. Really appreciate with any help from you.

Ya u could download the apk file called rockplayer.apk and install it and throw any file in your memory card and this app will play it smoothly
I did use Rockplayer to play but the result was somewhat unsatisfied. I got lag and slow motion video play
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
You could try yxplayer, but that's probably going to do the same thing...
So noone suffers the same prob as me? Everyone can play HD video smoothly. Can I ask which codec did you use? I used MP4 H.264 one
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I have the same prob.
Lag on rock player playing 720.
Just like lag in phone overall
Can I ask why you need HD playback on a none HD display? You would not see any difference from a 720p file to a 854X480 file regardless.
The Ironman file I encoded to the proper size plays perfect and I cannot tell the difference from source (720p). Encoded MP4 H.264 with Videora.
I just tried, and in mp4 format, it lags significantly (like it plays between 7-19 fps), but I converted the same file to DivX, picture and sound quality looked exactly the same and it plays perfectly fine at full frame rate.
Well, probably the 2.1 update will bring something to play HD video, since the X10 will be able to record HD video. At lest it is logical.but who knows, maybe we ll record on our X10 the video and watch it on a hd tv. i hope i am wrong.

Yeah. Hopefully you are wrong. That would be stupidity redefined.
Coming back to the playback issue. It's the same thing here. I got the best performance with rock player, which managed to play a couple of hd files.but mostly even rock player is too laggy.

Thank you very much guys, at least now I know I'm not the only one who suffer. Maybe I will try different codec like DivX for example

My thoughts exactly. Unless we're able to output and watch these files on our HDTV's, whats the point of needing to watch a 720p file on a 854x480 screen that isn't HD? Makes no sense to me...but to each their own.
I recall reading the update info on SE blogs that we will apart from HDrecording also get wireless video out, i'm guessing we'll need to buy some reciever for our tv's for it to work.

Personally I want to be able to play 720p video on my phone because that's what format the majority of my video is and I'd like to be able to play it without transcoding
That said, If I remember correctly the snapdragon has a hardware video decoder capable of playing 1080p @ 30 fps so it is probably a 1.6 related issue.
hi mate i just got the phone today its amazing for i have a question whats XDA App that u use for transfer the file i guese??
My guess is that these video players do not have access to the GPU for hardware acceleration, which would mean the CPU would have to do all the hard work (don't forget, playing HD video IS hard work for any mobile device). Whether that would be an Android 1.6 restriction, I don't know.
anybody looked at the bitrates of these videos?
a bitrate of 8,000 in comparison to a bitrate of let's say 1,000 would make a bit difference... am I wrong?
Also, if you are using the stock CLASS 2 memory card, then playing high bit-rate files will be problematic.
I know that you guys don't want to transcode, but 720p really kills battery.
I haven't tried on my new 16GB class 2 card, but with the 8GB that came with the phone I got smooth playback with 720HD with these settings:
MP4:
ffmpeg
1500kbps for video
48channels or whatever it is
160kbps sound
1280x720 pixels
=)
Hi there, I been searching around regarding this HD Video playback issue but till now there are just like half half situation. Some people claimed their device can run smoothly for 720P video but some said can't, therefore I would like to ask about this question again.
I have tried out few HD trailer in 720p mp4 format, coded in h.264. My result was out of 10 720P video I tried, only 2-3 able to play smoothly in my x10i, the rest will either have video lagging or require soft-decoding which will cause in video lagging as well. In short, my x10i can't play 720P well.
I have another solution in hand which is converted them still into h.264 but in resolution of 854*480, and all of these converted video worked fine. Just wondering if most of the x10i user able to play 720P video smoothly or not since conversion requires some times... Also wish to know is it the real hardware constraints for x10i to play HD video or only my device having some processing problem...
Nevertheless thank you for your answer and opinion =)

hmm that's weird, I played HD on my phone perfectly fine, didn't lag at all maybe you need to try different video players, there's some one that play HD/MKV on the market but there is no point playing HD on a non-hd screen.

I tried moboplayer, rockplayer, vplayer. They all won't able to play it smoothly, neither hard-decoding nor soft-decoding. Hmm your video size is 1280*720 or above? As far as I concerned 480P already consider as HD and my phone is able to play them well as well.
I understand there is no point playing HD on x10 screen, but all my video source are in HD format and I would like to figure out x10i capabilities in HD playing so it may save me some time doing video conversion

+1.Indeed
But give mx player or Dice Player a try they are a bit smoother.
use mx player
The built in video player seems to work fine with all my 720p HD videos.

Was just wondering is there anyway to get smooth 1080p video playback on our phones? I've tried webkit, opera, dolphin, ninesky, skyfire, firefox and even tried the html5 website with no success. I know the gnex can play 1080 youtube which is inpart to ICS I'm assuming. Does anyone know of a browser or method to get 1080 videos to stream smoothly on youtube? Thanks!
I have no problem watching a 1080p video on YouTube if that is what your question . I am using the dolphin HD browser

Hmm it doesn't stutter for you at all or give you the "not optimized for mobile" message? Playing it direct from the browser w/ flash correct?
Use this it allows you to download the videos as well but it only goes up to 720p not sure if it'll help, but its what I use to get HD videos. Since the you really can't get 1080p on a 720p screen just like a TV. It'll either be 720p or 1080i. It allows you to select the quality as well. So good luck

Why bother viewing a 1080p source when our screen can only do 720p? 4g can do it, sure, but there's no real benefit.

Just to do it! Also, if we mirror it to a source that can handle 1080p then why not?. 4g can keep up with it, but play back is choppy.
But if the phone has to dither it down to 720p anyway, then there is no point.
It's really just a waste of bandwidth to do that, with absolutely zero gain or benefit.
Hi,
I recently shot a video using my Motorola Atrix running CM7.2, and for some reason it won't play. All my other videos shot before and after this one play fine. I would really like to see this video, it is very important to me!
Any idea's? I would pay someone a few bucks if they could get this video off the phone for me in a playable format (I could dropbox it to you).
Thanks,
Adam
More Info please.
Try transferring the video to your PC and use VLC or other good player with a lot of codec and see if it opens.
Does that video have significant size like atlease 2 or 3 MB atleast if its a zerobyte file then obviously it wont play.
You can capture frames in video with sony vegas if later frames are corrput you can crop them.
I have the ATRIX 2 MB865... can't be much different from yours. I also have a ME860 as well, and I could test on that as another option.

the video is about 58mb's.... I will try transferring to my computer after work. here is a link to dropbox filehttp://db.tt/sQCQvB7v
I can't find anyone else with this problem, so I decided to come here where the professionals live.
My problem is that i'm 100% sure that this is an hd phone, as I've downloaded and played HD videos before, and the default background is HD. Whenever I run the youtube application, the maximum quality that i'm allowed to choose is 480p. Any help would be appreciated.
The resolution is qHD, youtube detects itself, so we cant have 720p on youtube.

Moto E 2015 has a 960x540 resolution screen. While the phone can handle playing higher-resolution video (I'm been able to play 1080p and 720p 10bit video in MX Player with no issues), the Youtube app limits to the resolution of your screen. Wish it at least gave the option for 720p, for the greater bitrate, but alas it's limited to 480p. Unofficial Youtube apps might give you all the resolution options, but I haven't tested out any to confirm.
