New to Vibrant need some help. - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys
I have been on xda for a while, earlier I was using HD2 and learn quite alot from this community. Now I have got Vibrant as well reading about it on xda forums is a little confusing for me. Vibrant is not as easily flash able as HD2. So need your help guys. Let me tell you about device-
1.Its rooted and CWR is installed.
2.I installed the CyanogenMod 7 and it was working fine, Then I read about voodoo sound, to get it I flashed supported kernel -CM7_Vibrant_kernel_kang_20110504_r10_update.zip this one, but after installing it phone is not getting any signals and camera stopped working.
3.Well later on I thought to install bionix-v-1.3.1.zip but CWR is not installing saying not supported and operation abort.
Questions-
1.How do I go back to Froyo from gingrebread?
2.How to enable vooodoo sound?
Last but not the least I am already tired of flashing ROMs on my HD2 and I need little break. So please suggest best and stable ROM with vooodoo sound. So that I can use it for a while without facing any issue. Froyo or gingerbread any will do.
And please link me to some guide of vibrant where I can read and understand it. I found some guides but they dont seem complete.
Thanks in advance.

I suggest you download the AIO Toolbox. It has everything you will ever need. I believe its the very first post on the vibrant android development forum.
You need to ODIN back to stock to get to FROYO. (use the toolbox, it has ODIN)
as for a stable froyo ROM, i suggest Project V, lots of themes + the sweet edt tweaks app.
Hope that helps

I moved away from eclair the moment i got my phone (wait for it) but whenever i move from froyo to ginger or voce versa, i always odin first and look for instructions in OP...
Alright, kang doesnt seem to be stable, similar thhing happened to me.. flash glitch or kernel du jour for CM7.. WAY BETTER and both have voodoo color and sound... once you have em, download voodoo control from market, altho they should be active by default.
Idk too much about froyo roms; i rememver using bionix 1.3.1 and loving it.

The 2 best guides ur gonna find are stickied in Q&A and Vibrant Android Development forums respectively.
Q&A is the "noob guide" by @s15274n the Vibrant Android Development one is "The Official Vibrant Bible" by @FATEOWNZYOU. Both should provide you with all your answers. Good luck!

You can always look through all the Roms and Etc. With my Vibrant Bible... Link im Sig.. little out of date cuz iv been on vacation.. but anything older then 2 weeks is on there for ya =)

I just want to say Thank you for the link you provided. Most posts replying to questions are the usual "just do a little searching ..." and no one ever provides a starting point.
I've spent a lot of time "searching" and running into conflicting information or information pertaining to a completely different issue.
So again, Thank you for the link. It made this post simple.
[EDIT] I almost forgot to ask jimprime, why are you wanting to go back to stock and unrooted ?
I have not yet rooted, but have noticed a lot of people are looking at going back to stock and I am curious. Why root in the first place?
well first its not really my phone second i just wanted to try out froyo on the vibrant didn't c much difference and i didn't really find it that much faster than the stock and i switch back to stock
yea this helps out alot

Hi - if you have not found it by now there is a great thread about this here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19356442#post19356442
wildstang83 - packaged up the OTA and made a flashable ROM that works perfectly. I had rooted with Unrevoked just to freeze some bloat and for the fun of it but had never done a ROM before this so I was definitely apprehensive but with a little help from Titanium Backup I'm purrring along with Gingerbread now.
Although I thanked him in person with a PM I would like to let anyone know who reads this he knows what he is doing and on top of that seems like a really good dude. So go for it and thanks again wildstang83!

[Q] cm7 makes no sense

ok so here is my problem. i have been flashing roms on this phone for well over a year and this whoe cm7 thing makes no sense and not to mention everything is very vague.. i need clarification on a few things.
when i click the cm7 official thread and read the dl instructions it jsut says odin to stock and flash basically. Well last night i did that and and emmc doesnt mount or something... i dont know exactly except that i couldnt download all the google apps for failure of memory????/ and if i click music and pictures it doesnt show up but shows up fine when i go into files and play directly from emmc files.
so whats going on with that and did i mess somethign up?
second the cm7 direcrions for install or drastically different tahn than the wiki cm7 full update guide which tells me to be on uvkb5 firmware and instill overstock kernal and then do a bunch of stuff to get cm7 where as the official link here jsut says flash it ?
next if i have to full update guide using uvkb5... well i have got it rooted but its still 3e recovery... and i have yet to find a solid answer on how to get around that...
jsut basically i need clarification... THERE IS WAY TO MUCH UP IN THE AIR WITH THIS CM7...... is it really that damn complex to put on my phone?
u know what actualyl ill jsut update to miui since there is actually a freaking simpicated guide a few posts down
** this needs to be done with cm 7

Do you happen to be talking about my guide (which is a few posts down currently)? If so I'll be glad to help you with any steps on my guide, using the rom, or customizing MIUI to best suit your needs.
Furthermore, MIUI is a great rom and has brought life back into my Vibrant! MIUI is easily customizable, much more then CM7. And there are hundreds of themes for the custom firmware popping up everyday so I'm sure you'll be satisfied.
MIUI IS cm7.
Lol flashing cm7 is easy, just follow the xda thread guide... if your emmc is acting wierd, its probably because you have gb bootloaders whivh are not completely compatible with cm7.. if im right, youll have the same problem with miui... thats the best i can do

Flashing a rom from stock 2.1 eclair

Ok just got a vibrant from a friend at work and it was stuck with a phone to pc icon, think he uplugged it while trying to update it, anyway I put it in download mode and used odin to flash it back to stock 2.1 eclair, rooted it and put recovery on it. My question is can I flash a ics rom right from 2.1 or is there a step I need to do in between, dont have experience with flashing roms on this phone, I dont want to get stuck in a bootloop and start all over.

Woodrube has a guide up (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1464423), and there are a few other threads on it.
Quick synopsis is to flash the Gingerbread bootloaders, ensure voodoo is disabled (shouldn't be there from what you've said you've done) but read through the guide. It's a lot easier than it used to be, but since you're significantly changing the filesystem it's better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks for the nod Kaiser.
Rob, if you have any questions, please ask. Best not to have a borked phone.

+1, Listen to Woody's advice in his guide, he's smart, he's my hero! :victory:
Thanks guys especially woodrub your guides really helped out, I installed the gingerbread
bootloaders, then cm7 which was tricky at first cause it was bootlooping but your guide told me it was normal to just reflash in blue recovery, then I flashed ics passion Rom, all is running great thanks again

Not Knockin It, Not Knocking It at all....
but Passion is a little outdated. There's more up to date options out there, CM9, SlimICS, (ahem) ICZen, all more up to date and running off android 4.0.4, passion is on 4.0.3, there were a lot of source patches from google, bugfixes, in 4.0.4.
At any rate, glad you got 'er up without issue.

Really give a look at ICZen. I'm sure if you read enough around here you'll find that most people default to that when they aren't trying a new release.
Also keep in mind that kernels play a big role in the performance of ICS ROMs; a whole lot more than they did with Froyo, in my opinion. Devil and Sub-Zero are probably the best ones out from my experience.

improved Rom

I just updated my vibrant from stock froyo to stock gb via kies factory upgrade.
Here are specifics as is: firmware 2.3.6 baseband t959VUVKJ6 kernel 2.6.35.7-t959VUVKJ6-CL694130 build GINGERBREAD.VUVKJ6
I went through hell today to root and unlock the sim of this phone as its my first day ever messing with android phones.
I was looking at the wiki for the t-959 roms, the "stable" one is barebones and the "cutting edge" one is CyanogenMod 7.2. Barebones pretty much hints you lose functionality and though the other is apparently great, it isn't "stable" and here and there you read a post here and there of someone having some kind of trouble with a feature that just might have worked with the factory rom.
I don't want to sacrifice factory functionality for a phone that looks good or is too modern for the vibrant to handle, I want a rom where I will have no issues whatsoever with things like mms, camera, ics, gps, wifi / 3g sip w & w/o bluetooth (w sipdroid), tethering, installing to sd, that has a promise of performing well for a good while and ideally for the rest of the life of the phone without having to possibly upgrade again.
It seems my best bet is to either just leave my phone as is or go with barebones and install apps as NEEDED, please help, you learn alot in the forum but also you run across soo many contradictions, alternatives and options that its too confusing and time consuming, really, I just want to do this once, quick and get it over with, bam bam bam, done and hopefully never have to mess with it again until it gets smashed or I loose it.
oh another thing, though this phone is rooted unless I insert an SD I can't browse ANY files, either via its ui or via usb... I have a captivate where I can see both sd internal and external via both ui and usb, I'm assuming its a rom issue that once I upgrade to any rom that will be solved.
Well cm7.2 is based on gingerbread which you said you have. It is pretty stable except for possible GPS and 911 issues. Cm9 is based on ICS, its also pretty stable but same possible issues. CM10 is based on jellybean, its in alpha build but considering its fairly stable except for same two issues. As far as looking at files, you need root browser or root explore. Just DL from market. I'm running Der Teufel's Hellybean cm10 ROM. Its really nice. But you said you want to set and forget....ICZen is a good ICS ROM. Its pretty stable and a lot more up to date than gingerbread.

Seeing that this is your first experience with Android, I would say that you need to make sure that you know what you are doing first before you start flashing anything. I am going to save you some serious heartache in just one minute.
First, Kies is notorious for HardBricking phones. Don't use it. You can use Odin or Heimdall to flash back to "stock" whenever you need to. Always good to do when flashing ROMs to have a clean base to start with. Google them and you will find what you need.
And now, here is where I am going to save you tons of trouble and the painstaking issues that WILL lie in your future. When I say that you need to know what you are doing before you start flashing, here is why. YOU DO NOT HAVE A VIBRANT, so don't flash any Vibrant ROMs to your phone. First we never got an official GB ROM, only Froyo. Second the builds that you put up there are to the SHG-T959V. That is the 4g version. Those ROMs won't work in the Vibrant and our ROMs won't work on theirs. Fortunately there is a forum for those and you will find whatever you need in there.
Good luck and be careful and above all read, read, read.
Hey wood, this is the second person I have seen stating they had stock GB on a vibrant. I thought it was weird. I figure if you are not sure what phone you have or what OS your running you shouldn't try to install custom ROM! Thanks for saving that guy!
drool on my chin from a mouth full of jellybeans
You survived kies. That is awesome. But hellybean is awesome.
Sent from my Jellied out Vibrant sandwich.
Check out the Hellybean nightlies Here and here and the Devil Kernel for ICS here and Jelly Bean here for the Galaxy S and variants.
oh noes!

THe wiki for this with files neded seems to be mostly dead.
I took my tmo g s 4g and upated it with kies mini. it now has t959vuvkj6-cl694130 and I cannot find how to root but have been reading for daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaays
Searching forums is cumbersome at best.
Does anyone know where accurate and fresh data is on how to root and use cm10 or any other help for non experts?
I guess I have to use a pc because there is crap info for mac

Thanks, unfortunately super one click is reported as a virus and also doesn't work on mac.
Personally, I would skip any ICS roms entirely. The risk of getting the EU bug (dead internal memory) isn't worth it. Go straight to JB.
