I am running into SD card mounting problems on MIUI. After I load the rom, everything works fine for a while. Then the SD card will show up as having been ejected. I remove and replace the card, and if it is read at all, it's read as blank or damaged. It reads fine both on a computer and on this phone running other roms. What's even weirder is that, although the card reads fine on CWM at first, once I start having problems with it in the ROM, it won't mount in CWM either.
I have reloaded the rom three times now. First time was from DL09 stock, second time from EB01 stock, last time from CM7. Both times I went to stock I used the instructions from development (atlas.pit, repartition). All times I wiped cache, data, dalvik. I've flashed both from CWM4 and CWM3. I've used two different SD cards (both sandisk, a 2g and 32g) I've tried wiping and formatting the cards, both on the phone and on the computer. I've tried battery pulls and reboots. I've tried both cards. I've tried restoring apps from Titanium (just apps, no data) as well as fresh from the market.
From where I am now (card never mounts on ROM or on CWM, even if blank and freshly formatted), the only thing that has worked in the past is to go back to stock and reflash the ROM. But that doesn't seem to be a long term fix, because each of the three times I've done it, the problem just returns, and I can't identify anything I'm doing wrong. I haven't had problems with CM7 or comrom, but I really want to make MIUI work! Help!
I am curious as well about SD issues on AOSP in general. I was having the same issues on CM7 then shortly after it started I lost roughly 5 gig of data off my card, including all my pics. I was able to recover the pics with Recuva but I am still wondering why.
I remember reading a short blurb about this some weeks ago but haven't been able to find it again.

I've read upon the DAMAGED SD CARD problem with android, but most of the phone becomes virtually unusable, mine says it's damaged but market works, and I can install apps to phone memory, even with APPS2SD enabled. If I try and copy my files to the computer, it stops halfway with 'perimeter incorrect', glad I did a backup like 1 week ago. Funny thing is, in recovery the SD card is fine, I can make backups, I even tried to repair SD Ext Partition, no luck.
Its probably Android thinking it's damaged without it really being so. Totally confused since I warning/error is on the ongoing notification. Also when I go into the SD card & phone storage shows information as unavailable and SD information widgets can't read it either. I don't mind formatting and copying everything over, but it kinda works, but android thinks it's corrupted or something. Very weird. Also I did nothing out of the ordinary, but with computers or machines random errors can occur. I had the partition in place for a 3 weeks now, installed MCR 3.1 couple of weeks ago and using it pretty much like this, but since the WIFI hanged (kept saying it's turning off but being stuck) I rebooted and the message came up.
Is it possible to fix it how it is? Or shall I just re-format and copy everything again. I'm just worried it may happen again.
My phone's taking up this habit of rebooting (or so) randomly and automatically. It doesn't show any error or message and just reboots about twice a day... How did i know... My music widget did not display the last song paused and the up-time duration in the battery status was only a couple of hours (when infact I haven't shut it down)
Does anyone face this problem? Two things that could have made things go bad:
1. Using Verbatim Class 4 8gb MicroSDHC (heard problems with 8gb cards)
2. I rooted my phone partially (z4root did not work, superoneclick worked till halfway but I was able to access the root. Is there anything called incomplete rooting ). And after deleting the useless pre-installed apps... unrooted (again partially ) so that I can visit the Service Centre if things go worse.
Will the phone face problems if it reboots every once in a while. I don't mind it as long as it does not give me errors
Thanks,
Have you tried another sd?
AFAIK and with what i been seing arround here, that can be a card fault.
Incompatibilitys or something like that. It whouldn't be the first device like that.
Second change will be a hardware failure, wich is worst...
In my viewing, everything that is not normal, it's not good for your device.
So you should try to find a solution for it.
Cheers
my bad... Provided wrong info in the last post.
My system uptime is 48hrs which means my phone hasn't rebooted. But my status since last unplugged is 3 hrs but I last charged my phone more than 12hrs ago and I haven't plugged it to a computer as well. This number haas changed twice today...
I am thoroughly confused... Don't think there is a problem with my sd card as the phone runs perfect... All the games and music stored in the card play without problems... Guess I'll have to investigate further.
If anyone has any suggestion do let me know
I had this problem, too. And yes, It's SD-card related.
The uptime counter doesn't reset every time, but the last unplugged time does, as you noticed.
I flashed with the OC kernel, and surprisily, my phone is now fully stable. I don't know if the kernel did really the trick, but you could maybe give a try...

Can you please elaborate. Flashed the OC kernel... with what?
Did you reinstall the original firmware? Thanks!
I used the custom recovery and I selected the "Flash from zip file" option, it was very simple once you get the custom recovery working !
It doesn't erase your data, and it doesn't replace the original firmware, it's only a patch.
Do I need to install the custom recovery or is it pre-installed?
I don't think it is pre-installed. The key combination is not working. The phone starts up as usual.
And do we need to be rooted to carry this out. I'll try a soft reset meanwhile....
EDIT:
I got it. Need to use this "recovery-RA-GNM-thunderg-1.1.0.img" file to enable the custom recovery. If I put this file in the root of the sd card, will the key combination work? And what about the flash file? I'm sure it'll ask for the flash file when i select the option flash from sdcard.
I've experienced similar behavior, mostly using 3D apps. Google's Nav will usually result in a freeze/reboot. Quadrant has done it many times. When I was looking in logcat and bugreport it was showing messages like:
W/SharedBufferStack(223): waitForCondition(LockCondition) timed out (identity=223, status=0). CPU may be pegged. trying again.
I can't be positive if the SD card is the culprit (I haven't had a chance to replace the stock card yet), or if it's a software or hardware problem. I've only rooted and modified build.prop to enable jit and stagefright...and that's it.
edit:
Phone just crash when I opened the new updated google maps. Attached the logcat if anyone can glean some useful info from it.
Mine is definitely SD card related.... Flashed the original firmware but did not help. The SD card kept unmounting and remounting (no rebooting though).
Finally went back to the bundled sd card and no problem so far... But my other 8gb card is working perfectly in other phones and the pc as well (very good transfer speed and all) Even when I had it in my phone it was snappy.
But I read that a new firmware has been released. hopefully that will sort the issue... Fingers crossed.

There is a new version of the firmware, V10E.
You need to try that one.
I have the same phone and have no problems running a PNY 8 gig. card. I would try to re-rom your device but, be sure to back everything up first. If problem still persists try a differant sd card. ( class 3 or higher) I am currently running Cyanogen 2.3.3 with kernal update 2.6.32.9. OC to 806mhz. Semms to be running just fine. I hope that helps out.

Hi, I also facing the sd card problem. Can I update to v10e because my phone is v10a and rooted?
Before you guys upgrade, try this ....
Copy out all the data from your SD card, format your SD from the device, then copy the data back.
In addition, if you have shifted any Application data using the Move to SD card feature, suggest you move it back.
I used to have the reboot once a day, now I don't have it anymore ...
Formatting didn't work for me. Factory reset worked for a couple of weeks, but still got SD card unmounts with no apps moved to SD. The only thing that worked was physically removing the SD.
friend i got Phone on this saturday till then I was having problem of random reboot .like every time i play with my phone . i am using class 2 trascend 8gb made in taiwan micro sd card (but the problem of unmounting never occured to me).Main problem was of the random reboot .Then i flashed my phone with Unofficial port of CyanogenMod 7link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354 it worked so greatly and now i am running phone for more then 3 hours without any problem(hope this time will increase).
PS :This mod doesn't have market application of android any one who can provide market.apk or vending.apk beacuse its convinient to download from there
Ive been running BAMF Gingerbread 2.0.5 for quite some time. I've been around for a while and have never encountered this before. My SD Card has been formatting on it's own. This is been re occurring since yesterday, over and over again. I've been using GingBAMF since it came out and haven't done anything recently for it to act up. I've reflashed the ROM in its entirety to no avail. I can get everything set up and reboot to install kernels and to gain SU permissions (Adfree, quickboot, ect). Everything is fine. I boot into recovery to backup my ROM, no problem. I connected to my computer and backed up my SD Card to my computer (Except the first time it formatted it took everything and I didn't have it saved - DOH!) and it reboots fine. I was running low on battery (30% left) so I rebooted (Using the system prompts - power/reboot/normal) so I could charge it (Using IMO's 2.8.2GBtest4 kernel) and it tried to reboot, then *bam* auto formatted my SD card again. Any suggestions or similar situations?
Have you tried a different card?
Didn't have a chance yet because I wasn't home but when I get there I will try. The weird thing about it is it leaves all my folders there it just wipes all the files inside. Some of my zip files are there but again they have no data.
Thunder sent via my BAMF Gingerbread ROM.
I've been having ongoing problems with my SD card in both MIUI and CM7. Basically, sometimes my card will mount and sometimes it won't. When I try to mount it, it sometimes says "damaged card" or "blank card" There's no consistent behavior. Sometimes it loads up fine on reboot, sometimes it works fine if I eject and reinsert it or unmount/mount it, but sometimes not. I've tried two different cards - one a sandisk 32gb class4, one a sandisk 2gb class4. I've tried reformatting the cards both on the phone and on the computer, using windows standard format and also the sdformatter program. I've loaded each ROM several times, ODINed back to stock, ext4 formatter, kernel cleaner; tried different kernels, different radios, different cards.
The cards I'm convinced are not the problem, because they work fine on the computer and also on my phone using different ROMs. I've seen people come up with this problem here and there, but not found a reliable fix. Every thing I've seen recommended I've tried, but nothing lasts. Sometimes things will work fine for a couple of days, then I'll start having problems again.
bump - anybody have any input on this problem?
+1
just flashed cm7. My sdcard works fine on cm6.
the other weird, app2sd is just fine, every app on that partition working, except accessing sdcard.
sdcard also can mount on recovery using, as well as mount mass storage via recovery (mass storage failed on OS)
The only problems I've ever seen with sd cards is on ec09 but not cm7 or miui.. based on what you describe...I would think its a hardware issue with your phone not the rom, not the kernel, nor the sd card itself, have you tried pulling the battery, removing the sd card and cleaning the contacts on your phone with some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip..do the same to the card or you can use a pencil eraser for the card...is it possible you could have tried to insert a card the wrong way or a little crooked? I'm just brain storming for ya cause I'm not sure on a definite fix.
If you can, I would back up everything on your card while its still usable just in case its crapping out on ya

Thanks. I haven't tried that, but not sure how it could be a hw issue since the card works just fine on other ROMs on the same phone. Never had any SD card issues of any kind until I started messing with these GB ROMs. I will try, though.
I'm really thinking of going back to a froyo rom for now because I need stability. But this is such an intermittent/rarely reported issue that I don't think anybody's really working on it. I don't know that it will ever get fixed, in other words. Oh, well.
Well, I've given up on cm7 for now. I've gone back to ed05, trying the powerwashed ROM for now. Got to get some stability out of my phone, and unfortunately, I'm coming up with nothing from cm7. Maybe if there's a big update or something I'll have time to play with it again.
solved on CM-7.1-Pre
tried installing other rom base on CM-7.1-Pre and it work like a charm.
still curious if i have bad sdcard, tried back to previous ROM, and.......... the problem persist there.
so I decide to try dualboot.....
All my sd card mount issues are usually solved with a battery pull

I also have problems with my SD card. I can't partition mine. I more or less bricked mine about a month ago flashing a voodoo kernal, or not voodoo (I can't figure the whole thing out anyway) where it wasn't supposed to be (I think....), and followed Dale V's instructions on unbricking EXACTLY. I've now gone clear back to Eclair 4 times, ODIN'D AND HEIMDAL'D each and every time I've gone back to stock, AND I've used different links to different DL09, DL01, ED01, EB01, ED04, and on, and on, and on...and every time, my SD card partitions perfectly, I think (at least I don't get the E: can't format, file doesn't exist crap when I try to wipe dalvik cache, and only dalvik cache). As soon as I flash 7/17 CM7, the updates, gapps, glitch kernel, I have no partition. I can see the partition with file managers, but there's nothing there.
So, I totally feel your pain.
And while i'm here, why do I have a .apk called FOTAKILL in my files????
Peace!!

CM7.1 pre is an older build, correct? Where can I find it? Am I understanding that you install this one first and upgrade from there, or just leave it at this build? Anything else I should know if I want to try this out?
having the same problem mate my sd card is damage after i flashed miui
when i connected my phone to pc to test the connectivy it also cannot detect my phone btw my phone is sgs19000..and when i ejected the cable it says my sd cad is damaged..i know i safely remove it..but what is the proper way to safely remove it in miui because its a little different compare to stock/other ROms..
me too, but only on miui & 32gb c4 sundisk microsd on stock all normal. On all new kernel when my phone wake up I see this message.
I can't see problem on old kernel - try kernel neo09.
And maybe this help too - multimount app from market.
As the title says implies, I am having trouble writing data to my external SD card - both through the phone and while connected to a PC.
Background: Got the S4 about a week ago. It was on NK1. I rooted, de-bloated, and made back-up in SafeStrap. Discovered I had to run the KK SD Card fix, but was able to write to the SD card afterwards. Yesterday, while trying to copy a file to the SD card while connected to a PC resulted in a failure (Device stopped responding or was disconnected error). After that, the whole phone went wonky - Titanium, Root Explorer, File Manager, etc... wouldn't open and/or run properly after wards. Several reboots and the problem persisted.
Figured I would just restore my back-up. Well I screwed something up and got stuck in a boot-loop - I odined back to NC5 (figured I didn't need to be on NK1), and re-rooted. Setting my phone back up I realize I can't write to the SD card again. I run the SD Fix but to no avail. Opened Root Explorer and looked at platform.xml, which has all the correct permissions (as in this post).
What's going on and how do I fix this? The SD card is a pretty important feature for me. I can write to and copy to the internal storage either through the phone and while connected to a PC, but not the SD card. FWIW, the SD card works flawlessly in my old phone, so I know it;s not the card.
Going nuts here.
Thanks,
Edit - So playing around with another (lower capacity) SD card I find that everything works perfectly. When I get time this weekend I will have to reformat and/or get a new card. Strangely, the problem card still works good in my old phone. Very weird.
Turns out the sd card was/is bad. Found a great deal on a 64gb card and it's working great.
So now for more noob questions: What is the correct procedure for restoring and or flashing roms with safestrap? On my other phones I'm used to entering recovery (TWRP) and wiping data/cache/dalvik, formatting, doing a factory reset, etc, then flashing and or restoring.
When I attempted to restore my backup on my S4 (as described above), I wiped data, dalvik, & cache. After that I either did a factory reset or format (can't remember which), the phone automatically rebooted, and that is when I got stuck in the bootloop and couldn't enter safestrap recovery. I am interested in flashing Eclipse but would like to know the exact procedures to avoid losing the ability to enter safestrap.
Thanks for the advice.
