I flashed the ED05 stock package posted in the dev forum. Everything went well with the flash but when I rebooted, the phone went to VZW for activation and now I have no access to data network. Any ideas how to fix this?

I took a look through the forums and didn't see anyone else lose 3g with this package. Try a *228 and if that doesn't work, flash a different radio (ED04 or EC09) and try to *228 again. Can you make or receive calls/texts?
Worse comes to worse, reflash the ED05 package or flash a different ROM/stock package.
I had that happen once did a few reboots and started working all on its own. It was not with ed05 though.
If you flashed the ED05 with the SamsungPST and you lost data service you have two options (both verified to work)...
1. Login to My Verizon and swap your phone number to some other phone, activate it (*228) and then swap it back to your Fascinate.
2. Call Verizon and tell them you are not getting any data (but voice works ok) and that you would like your keys reset.
I have the same problem, ill try calling verizon tomorrow :s
I've actually tried different things now:
Connected to wifi, if I go into my verizon it says:
Your Mobile Number could not be validated, Please try again later.
When I try calling verizon, it says that my phone is not authorised.
When I dial *228 it unlocks successfully the phone, reboots, and then nothing!!
Help ??
Also I have tried going back to older versions, trying different roms but no data no where
Listen to pentafive. He's posted how to repair. Worked for me.
Update... It looks like you don't even need to *228 the other phone. Just get an ESN/MEID of some other VzW smartphone (that isn't currently activated), swap it on MyVerizon and then swap it back to the Fascinate. Then *228 your Fascinate.
Ok I called them and it worked, thanks everyone .
It was my first verizon phone so I could not try with another one.
Does anyone know why this happened ? To avoid it happening again ?
I am having the same issue. I have voice but no data. I don't have another Verizon smartphone to swap and the tech-support didn't know what "resetting the keys" meant. I am getting a replacement but I'd still like to know how to get this fixed in case it happens again. Thanks.

I recomend using odin instead of samsung pst! If you insist on using pst look up the official vzw stock ed05 thread in the dev section by pentafive. He has directions on how to keep from losing data when using pst.
I had the same proplem. No Data. I call verizon they had me pull batt waite five min replace batt reboot and i got my data working again.
Works
After asking if Tech Support could reset the "keys" for my phone, which they had no idea what that was, I asked if they could activate a different phone on my account then reactivate mine. He told me that would fix the problem if it was a network level problem (which it was.) He ended up resetting the data connection on the line and after a reboot my 3G was back. So, if Tech Support has no idea what "resetting the keys" means have them reset your data because the problem is a network level problem, not a phone level problem.
Also I used Odin and still got the lost data connectivity, so keep that in mind.

It left all kinds of Sprint stuff in the EPST, not sure how to clean that up, or if I'm screwed.
Anyone know of a way to get it all restored back to Verizon acceptable?
I have the 2.4 SPD, Radio 3.27, and DCD 2.2.6 and expect for no phone service, love it.
I've called Verizon, they have not been helpful, I did check my a-key both before and after and it was blank both times.
Help?

I don't know if it will work, but try going into the phone app and dialing ##786 Talk
This is supposed to completely reset the device, including the EPST settings, to factory clean. You will need to restore the MSID and MDN, so make sure you know what they are. I do not know if you will need to obtain an a-key from VZW. After that you will probably need to do the *228 setup.
If that does not work, maybe reflashing the radio and Verizon ROM will help.
I've got it fixed
Thanks for the tip; while I was waiting for that I tried a number of things, one of which worked.
What I did was to reflash the stock verizon rom from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359659&page=2
Using the complete version.
This put back the original radio and rom.
When I rebooted after that, it ran some cabs on first boot. One of them was called something like ResetRadio. Anyway after that I was able to call *228 and could do both options 1 and 2. Which I could not do successfully before.
I was still getting unauthenticated messages when I tried to call anyone, and could not take incoming calls.
I then called VZW and got a new A-Key, that fixed the phone so I could call in/out, but internet access was still broken.
They had me take my battery out, while they did something on their end; after that we redid the *228 and internet access is now working. We did a test text message and that worked as well.
I think the key in all of this, is to NOT flash the Sprint ROM into a Verizon phone, but if you do, you can reflash the Verizon version to put things back in order from the link I mentioned above.
I am using a DCD rom 2.2.6, and while I am a noob on some of this, I seem to recall him mentioning that he no longer includes the extended ROM; if that includes the part that resets the radio on a hard reset, I think it's actually required for people to keep their sanity.
Hope this helps, and for those that are worried that they will screw up their phones and have no way back from the far side of disaster, I can say that I've been there and made my way back.
Best of luck to you all.
DCD 2.2.6, GPS, and yes I can even make phone calls!
Hey all I was given an Eris by a friend so I rooted it easy enough at 1.5 last August. Since then I have had a few different custom roms loaded and everyone of them that I tried to activate the phone on didn't work. This phone was not activated when I rooted it, and I have to take it to my local verizon shop to have them try to activate it after they deactivate my moto droid 1. I' ve been digging for awhile now trying to figure out if it's the baseband version or what. Can someone please help if at all possible.
Current phone info:
Firmware: 2.1
Baseband: 2.42.01.04.27
Kernel: 2.6.29,
Build: 2.36.605.1 case release-keys
Software 2.36.605.1
Browser WebKit 3.1
PRI: 2.11_002
PRL: 58003
ERI: 5
When the phone boots it shows the verizon logo which doesn't completely mean the radio is flashed for versions network, but I have no idea how to tell otherwise.
Thanks.
If you activate the phone with a stock, or near-stock ROM (let's say Ivanmmj's "Official 1.0"), then thereafter, nothing you do to the phone with dev ROMs from this site will change the phone's activation data (stored in the phone) afterward - not flashing a different radio, nor performing a "wipe/factory reset" (in Amon_RA), nor installing a different ROM will change that.
When it comes to deactivating the phone - or more precisely, clearing the activation state of the phone, the only thing that seems to accomplish that is one of the factory recoveries - Amon_RA does not touch it. This happens if you perform a "factory reset" in the regular OS, which actually causes a boot to the recovery, which does all the "dirty work". You can also manually boot the stock recovery, and use the wipe menu to achieve the same result.
You can see that this makes de-activation inconvenient for rooters - but most of them don't need to do that.
So I'm reluctant to conclude that the radio firmware is affecting your result.
What happens when you try dialing *228 option 1? The call goes through, but you get an error voice announcement after some delay?
I was under the impression that people that flip back and forth between two phones on the same service don't ever bother to de-activate the phone in use: they just make sure that current phone is turned off before they attempt to activate the next phone.
I suppose you could restore the phone back to complete stock (including the stock recovery) before activating it, and then re-root it and reload a nandroid backup... but that's sort of a pain in the neck if this is something you plan on doing regularly.

PS I could swear I have activated my phone (*228 option 1) with a dev ROM on the phone, but don't remember the specific details.
First off thanks for the quick reply. I've been researching this whole time and when I dial *228 I don't even get prompt to pick an option. This tells me that somehow the radio itself is possible damaged. Is there anyway a rom could damage it? I ask knowing it's highly unlikely... I know the phone worked fine up to the release of the droid x when the friend upgraded to it. And all I've done is rooted and flashed, so I'm curious, can I test the radio at all?
Thanks.

I just re-read your initial post and actually can't tell if the phone has ever been successfully activated since you received it. You mentioned taking it in to the Verizon store, but you didn't say what the outcome was - was the Verizon store unable to activate it?
Normally when you dial *228 it just sounds like a normal voice call - you hear audio, the recorded lady's voice provides a menu, etc. Since that needs to happen in order to activate the phone, it is fairly obvious that the cellular radio must be working completely for that to happen - so the fact that you don't hear any audio seems to indicate something is wrong.
Why don't you try and reflash the phone back to stock using the download from this thread which also flashes the radio:
[ROM][10/20/2010]FlashBack21 v1 -Return to Factory Stock - UPDATED
And see if that gets you any different result. That would eliminate any effect of "dev" software, and also reflashes the radio with the July 2010 version - the last one officially shipped by VZW/HTC for the Eris. If you can't get audio (and you are sure from playing music that there isn't a speaker problem), that would point to a hardware problem.
BTW - even if the phone is working completely, VZW needs to already be aware that it's ESN/MEID is associated to your account, and I think that your other phone needs to be turned off at the time you attempt activation.
cheers
Thanks again. I'll work through that and then post back here.
Thanks again!
So I followed the simple to use guide as directed and everything flashed just fine. When when I got to the activate screen I tried to activate and when it dialed the number I hear nothing. So I turned the speaker on and hit number on the dial pad to make sure the volume is working and it appears to, but it doesn't make the ringing sound when you normally call a number. Soooooo as a desperate act to see if the radio was working what so ever I did something crazy... dialed 911, and I heard it ring one time, then hung up and pulled the battery. So i think the radio works fine in it, I'm going to go to the verizon store and have them try and activate it again.
Thanks a million for all of your help! I really, really appreciate it!
Update:
Just got back from the verizon store. They maunally activated the phone and still no connection to the network. What I don't understand is how when I dialed 911 it rang but nothing else will. Could verizon be blocking this phone?

If they activated it I don't know how they could be blocking it. I would've checked to see if it was working before I left the store, and when it wasn't, would've brought this issue up with them.
Are you just going by their word that they activated it, or is there some other way you can tell that it's activated, even though you're not getting any service? What I mean is, if you're not getting any service, how can you be sure they activated it successfully?

Other than bad hardware, the only thing which would cause this problem would be a "blacklisted ESN" - that would usually be a stolen phone, or a phone that was on a Verizon account that was abandoned by the subscriber with an unpaid balance. (Verizon doesn't want customers who cheat them to continue to cheat them by habitually opening new accounts under assumed identities, so they just blacklist the ESNs of phones that were used on abandoned accounts with unpaid balances)
Verizon won't activate phones with blacklisted ESNs - but if you walked in the phone store and asked them to activate it for you, I would presume that they would have told you straight up "We can't/won't activate this phone".
The radio does not use a separate technology for 911 calls, so, yeah - there is something odd going on here. Perhaps you had a "green" VZW customer assistant that isn't familiar with what happens when someone wants to activate a blacklisted phone, and simply didn't take notice when "something unusual" popped up on the computer they used to enter in your activation request.
You've got stock software on the phone now, so I wouldn't hesitate to pick their brains about it. Telling a VZW tech about the 911 call might convince them a little better - but just remember that you are admitting to a criminal activity (calling 911 without due cause).
Also - bear in mind that by law (in the US) every cell phone has an aGPS unit in it, precisely for the purpose of emergency services locating a cellular handset when the user is incapacitated. ( There is a small risk that if you make a 911 call, cops will end up at your door even if you hang up.)
Any ideas? I have a Plain Jane rooted TB that has been stuck in 1X despite (in order):
- rebooting
- pulling battery
- restoring a known good saved ROM from ROM Manager
- toggling enable on RevA
- installing jcase's rooted 1.70.605 OTA and MR2 radio
- factory reset
I am in midtown Manhattan. I should have stellar 3G/4G. Is there anything left to do but return the phone to VZ?

You should check your settings and see if your mobile network is on(obvious answer and I feel like you have probably done that). Make sure you dont have any apps that are turning it off i.e. juicedefender or any other apps that control your mobile network. It could be the ROM you are using so try and use your stock ROM and see if you get 3G/4G in that. Make sure your SIM card is in properly. I do not know if that will be an issue but it could help. Also along with ROMs make sure the ROM you are using is friendly with the radio you are using. I can not think of much else. Google it too and search this forum or others that might help too! Good luck.
The simplest and most obvious possibility that still has to be asked: Do you have the back cover on the phone?

I had the same problem you did. I used Bamf 3.0 and flash the newest leak radio. My phone all of the sudden the next day dropped 3G. I went into the VZ store today and told them my sim card died and they gave me a new one. It working now, so I said unroot your phone like I did and get a new sim card. Make sure you update to their newest software before going into the store.
Seem like alot of people on the forum are saying they are not getting 3G/4G lately after the new radio that was out. I got my radio the day it was leak.

Thanks. But I had my problem before I flashed the new radio. I've been using the original plain jane root from back in March. It worked two nights ago, was stuck in 1X the next morning.
Since I now have the new OTA stock is there an easy way to get it out of root or should I just follow the sticky instructions and go all the way back to original ROM?
Instead of taking it in you could also just give them(verizon) a call. I know they can see if your phone is rooted from there and many verizon workers have theirs rooted and might be able to help you!
Yeah mine worked 2 days ago too but yesterday it died I was using bamf for a while now. I flashed the radio before that too, all of the sudden it just dropped. The guy at VZ store told me that never happened before that a sim card just die like that.

Thanks, but I spoke to VZ last night. The rep was nice and all but said the factory reset should fix the problem (it didn't) He said the next step would be to replace the phone. I might call again tonight to see if I can bump up the tech support ladder to someone more knowledgeable. Still hoping someone here could help me out.
Like I said, I had the original plain jane root that everyone did back in March when the phone came out. No reason for it to suddenly get stuck in 1X the other day.
Ive had that problem twice now. The first time my 4g antenna stopped working for whatever reason. I replaced the battery cover and it worked again for a few days. When it stopped again I called verizon and they sent me a new phone which is probably what youre gonna have to do.
So... VZ is next-day mailing me a new phone. I wanted to exchange it in the city but they said once you have the phone for more than 14 days exchanges have to be done by mail. Still, I'd love to know why the phone died.
So, my Fascinate was recently running VooDoo, and I just dropped it back down to the stock software/firmware. No issues with implementing anything and it looked like it did what is was supposed to. There are two issues I'm running into:
1. After a certain amount of time, I can't dial *228 to activate or update coverage on the Fascinate. It will tell me "Programming Unsuccessful" without even giving me any sound from the speaker or the earpiece.
2. When I get past the activation and try to download apps via WiFi, they won't download unless I'm sitting on the app description, and even sometimes they come up unsuccessful. Flash 10.3 is the one being a nusiance.
Any suggestions?
I would suggest using Odin to flash the full official ED05, if this doesn't help go on VZW website and swap esn numbers.
Just sent.
Could also call Verizon and ask for your DMU Keys reset. had this done when i lost my data connection.

becareful using this method, it can cause you to lose unlimited data if your grandfathered in on the old data plan. It's best to activate a old SMARTPHONE on your line, then swap back and you will keep unlimited data. If your on the new 2gb plan then disregard this post
A friend of mine has been having a problem with his phone. Its not rooted. This seems to be a known problem as he had this a year ago, he went to the sprint store and the guy flashed something that resolved it. He has data but no signal bars. When he makes a call he gets "call origination attempt failed" error. His phone was stolen, and he just got the replacement and now the problem is back. Tried updating profile/PRL to no avail. Kind of a strange problem so I figure someone would have the answer here. Any ideas?

Sorry - I left that out, we tried that as well. No change. Whats weird is the phone worked for a day, then stops, just like when he bought it new. Im guessing this doesnt happen rooted, since im sure 99% of the population on here is rooted. Supposedly its a common problem when the phone isnt rooted.
Rooted or not has no bearing on being able to make calls.
If the phone is fully stock, sprint has tools to see what's going on with it.
Has he tried refreshing his profile? Does he have data?

He has data which is weird. Just cant make calls. Browses the web just fine. He already called sprint who has no idea lol.
Sprint should have him try to clear his config. I can't remember the code off hand, ##786#, or ##72786#. It basically wipes the NAM profile settings associated with his account from the phone. On the next reboot, an OTA activation occurs.
This may be destructive in that one of those does a factory wipe too. I can't remember which.
He should ask for level2/3 support if the first tier person is helpless.

I do remember the last time, we did that and it made no change. The only thing that fixed it is he was told to go to a sprint store because they flash something special and it corrects the issue permanently. Which it did for him, until they sent him a new phone. Very weird issue.
If you've tried all the ideas posted here then I'd recommend just taking the phone into sprint or have them send your friend a new phone.

As a latest update - Sprint sent him now his 3rd phone and its been working for a little over a week. Guess it was hardware after all.
