Basically, I installed YogenTouch 1.5 after been riding the nightly cyanogen wave and having the phone crash during idle time. I wanted to try something new. Problem is that I can't install anything else with Clockwork and my question is simple:
How can I return the phone to its most basic state, with a gingerbread rom and a clean slate?
I tried flashing other mods, windows 7 is now telling me it should repair the usb whenever I connect it to the computer, I'd love to format and start the rooting process all over again, but I'm afraid I'll brick it.
Thanks!
If you install a rom like blayo, do you wipe your phone before you install?

i don't, i keep all my apps and everything, no cleaning of data or cache or dalvik.

Normaly if you change roms you have to wipe everything to have that fresh feel of the new rom
Try backing up your apps; I recommend titanium backup free, to be sure also backup true cwm, then wipe everything and then install a new rom
That should fix your problem

that's the problem, flashing won't work.. i get stuck in the clockwork mod recovery thing with the triangle and the upside down ! sign
looks like you need fake flash
Dude, if you had rommanager installed. The cwm recovery should be installed properly. But just in case you faild to get in to cwm recovery. Than at the red triangle with ! Sign. Press vol + and the power button. Than use the update.zip to access cwm. Rommanager will copy it's cwm as update.zip to your sd card when you installed it.

if you have that screen press volume + and then the power button and keep the volume + pressed while pressing the power button
then select flash update.zip and confirm with power

Hi,
yesterday I tried to upgrade to CM7.2 from a nightly. As I've been doing, I put the .zip in the sdcard and flashed it with ROM Manager (wiping everything). After flashing it, my phone stucked at HTC white screen and there is no way to switch it on, it stays at this screen all the time.
For my disgrace, it's S-ON, so I can't boot into recovery and restore anything. I've tried to restore a nandroid with fastboot and it doesnt't work (says "Failed (remote: signature verify fail)").
Any ideas? It's definetly bricked? Is there any hope of repairing it?
Thanks in advance (and please forgive my poor english xD)

What do you mean you cant boot into recovery because you are S-ON?
All you need to do is put the recovery file other wise known as flakeflash "UPDATE.ZIP" into the root of the SDcard, turn off your phone (Pull Battery), then press the down button and power button together, wait for the phone to do its stuff, then select recovery in the menu, the phone will reboot into red exclamation mark, press volume up and power, it will then go into stock recovery menu and will then look for the "UPDATE.ZIP" if all is well you should then go into the fakeflash version of clockworkmod recovery.
Does it boot when USB cable is plugged in (soft usb brick)?

Thank you very much, now I can boot into cwm, but I'm having some troubles when trying to flash CM7.2 (or even trying to restore any nandroid backup).
First, when I try to install CM7.2, it does it very fast, without showing any error, but when I restart the phone it gets stuck again on HTC screen.
Then I try to restore a nandroid backup but it doesn't find boot.img, system.img and data.img, skips all steps and restores nothing.
My last shot, try to install the last nightly I used, fails at the same point as when I try it with CM7.2.
I don't know what else can I do, any ideas? I hope there's still any chance for my Legend (and again forgive my bad english xD)
A few points, make sure the rom zip file you are going to flash is not corrupt or incomplete.
Boot into cwm recovery,
Make sure to format the boot, system, data, cache & ext, it wouldn't hurt to delete the dalvik cache too before flashing new Rom. Just remember NOT TO FORMAT SD card.
Using this method I have always been able to flash a new Rom.

Prepare a new SD card in your PC (FAT32), put UPDATE.ZIP on it and a stock ROM, reboot into recovery, wipe all you can (factory settings) and flash the stock ROM, see if that works. If so, you could try to flash a custom ROM.
That is what I would try...
I'm too.
I can't up CookROm by Rom Manager,
but when i use ClockworkMod recovery, its OK

Hi guys,
if this has been encountered and answered before please bear with me - the search function lets me down...
I installed cm-10.1-20121217-NIGHTLY-i9300.zip on my SGS3 yesterday (international model) coming from cm-10-20121216-NIGHTLY-i9300.zip. Sadly, after reboot, it appeared that all of a sudden my Runtastic app was gone, simply gone. I tried to access Google Play to get it reinstalled but the Google Play screen would just flash up for maybe 100-200ms, then disappear again. No way to start Google Play. I then wanted to go back to cm-10-20121216-NIGHTLY-i9300, but after rebbot, the device appears to hang in the boot process, displaying only the rotating CM logo almost indefinitely (well, at least 55 minutes).
Using recovery mode took me no where either - I get the screen with the yellow triangle but I can do nothing from there on, having to reboot. Which takes me back to square one - bummer.
What can I do to unbrick / reinstall cm-10-20121216-NIGHTLY-i9300? I think it may have something to do with wiping data but there was no point where I could have done this.
TIA!
First: how did you install the ROMs?
The screen with the yellow triangle is download-mode, not recovery. So i wonder how you installed these zip.
Also CM10.1 messes up your sdcard, it'll put all your data in the folder /sdcard/0/ so thats why you probably can't find anything in CM10.
Didn't you forget to install the gapps after flashing CM10?

CM updater needs CWM so just boot into CWM recovery (not download-mode) and do a factory reset/wipe.
And install the gapps after the factory reset.

The standard procedure (vol down, home, power) will send me reproducibly straight to download mode. Apparently, there is something severely screwed up... I'll try to re-flash CWM using Odin and go on from there
Update: Re-flashing solved the problem. Thanks for your hints!
vol down, home, power = Download Mode
vol up , home, power = Recovery Mode
First thing to do is calm down. Then, check if you can boot into download (power+volume down+home) . If yes, search for a stock rom to flash via Odin, from your pc ^^
same thing happened to me last night have been installing the nightles almost everyday no issues whatsoever in the last 2 months last night went ot nightly 20121218 or maybe it was the 19 not sure and it bricked my phine, 1/2 back now about to bring it back to stock and then go back to cm 10, i don't even have google play on the device anymore and have no option either to sign in with google account.
TIA![/QUOTE]
Cm10.1 moves all ur files in int-card to mnt/0 once u flash it from cm10 so u have to move all files back using PC or cm explorer so clockworkmod folder with your backup can be detected once u go on recovery mode... Download the latest gapps for 4.2, flash cm10.1 and latest gapps den clear dalvik

What you can do is, fisrt try to boot into CWM with vol up + home +power.
If it does get in there, wipe data, wipe cache and wipe dalvik.
Then reboot in download mode.
Get odin desktop, and flash a rom with PDA, and you should be ready to go.
If you can't get into CWM, you must get into download mode, and flash cwm with odin desktop.
After that is done you will be able do get into cwm, and follow the procedures i described.
I had 4.0 installed and rooted for a little while now.
So I wanted to install CM10 so I followed this guide http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-i717-roms/cm10-jelly-bean-rom-for-att-galaxy-note-sgh-i717/
I just backed up everything in CWM then install TWRP since he said you might need it, I backed up in TWRP and then I flashed cm-10-20121006-UNOFFICIAL-quincyatt.zip in TWRP restarted and now its Looping the boot animation for CyanogenMod.
I read in the thread a lot of people are having this problem but no one is giving a clear fix for it.
I can get Odin Mode by holding power and volume down, but I am not sure what to do from here?
Try booting into recovery mode (hold volume down and up then hold power) and restore your backup before doing anything with odin
Shouldn't be a problem if you wipe before flashing

I would ....yes
Then....you must "always " wipe caches, data , system before flashing a
New build....otherwise you'll get loops and data corruption...g
Are you sure its looping? I've had some ROMs take like ten minutes to boot. As long as you can get to recovery or download mode you can work your way back read the super thread really well and go slow good luck

When I stepped up to the 4.2 ROM I did the usual wipe and got the boot loop too.
Update to TWRP 2.4
Wipe caches
Factory reset
Flash ROM, let it settle in for a few hours, don't install anything.
Flash gapps and set up your apps
I got the 10 minute boot (I don't wait well ),anyway I went back to recovery /twrp re-wiped installed again and now on (no 2/flapps. Nightly) ,Go where ya want but I would advise against rootgalaxy for future use ,stick with xda ,tons to learn right here

Hey guys i'm really nervous here so I need some help! I just tried installing CM10 on my phone I had rooted ahead of time using the zergrush method so I downloaded cm10 and put it on my SD Card. But once I launched now my phone is stuck at a boot loop. And I can't get to the recovery mode to reset it for some reason all it does is repowers the phone when I try it and launches the CM10 icon again.

Try to get into the downloadmode by pressing volume up + down + power button and follow here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313659) number 2.
I could be wrong of course, but it sounds like you forgot to factory reset / wipe cache.
Did you follow these steps?
1. Root
2. Reboot into recovery
3. Factory reset/wipe cache
4. Flash ROM
5. Flash Google Apps
6. Reboot
If you didn't follow those steps, it's not a big deal. Try to reboot into recovery by pressing Vol Up + Vol Down + Power like love4k21 said, and just follow the steps from number 3.

I will be getting a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 tomorrow and I am interested in installing the PACMAN ROM
However, the instructions are not clear for me since I am new to all this. I've downloaded the roms, gapps and kernal and now the instructions say to:
'Put the files on your device
Reboot into recovery
Wipe dalvik cache
Install the zips (or do adb sideload if you want)
Reboot'
Since I have no experience with android devices, I am not sure how to do these steps. I've tried searching on Youtube but there aren't any tutorials for SGP's. I am aware that I need to do a full wipe since I am going from GB to JB (so I need to delete data, dalvik, system and dbdata). It also says to do a backup if anything goes wrong, which I am not too sure how to do as well.
If someone could explain these instructions clearly to me, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

put your device in download mode (hold down power and volume down) and flash entropy's kernel with odin.
then you will have clockworkmod recovery, which you can boot into by holding power and volume up.
in clockworkmod, you can make a backup, wipe data, and install the rest of the stuff.
you could even do all of this without ever booting up the stock rom.
This is what I do/did...
I used this tutorial to flash CWM and root
http://m.androidauthority.com/galaxy-player-5-0-android-2-3-6-root-clockworkmod-recovery-116474/
Download SuperOneClick and
Download Odin. Follow tutorial.
Odin can be used to flash ROMs or kernels and to flash CWM.
Download the Pacman ROM and a kernel and put it on your External SD card.
Use ROM Manager from the play store to reboot into Recovery mode (easiest way) or volume up and power button at the same time as the Samsung flashes after you first boot your device.
From recovery mode you can wipe dalvik cache etc, but if this is a new device, you shouldn't have to factory reset or wipe cache (I think) If you're buying a used device, wipe and reset.
You're in recovery mode still, navigate to-
"Load zip from external SD card" and select it. Navigate to the Pacman zip and select it.
You navigate using the volume up and down buttons and select using the power button.
Navigate back to main screen in recovery mode and select Reboot System.
Do the same thing to flash a kernel. If the kernel has clockwork mod integrated, load the kernel first.
I use Xplore to move files around, it's quick and easy.
The reason ppl tell you to back up any data is, they have data they want to keep. If this is a new device, you don't have anything worth saving, such as contacts apps etc.

what exactly did you do in cwm?
did you install pac rom?
if not, try installing (using install zip from sdcard) it directly over gb, after doing a full wipe.
also install gapps the same way

I got up to step 7, but my device kept rebooting after that. So I went in CWM recovery by holding POWER and UP buttons and wiped my data and cache but it still kept rebooting.
And I can't flash any roms since I still haven't rooted the device. I couldn't use entropy's kernel because I have an INTL Galaxy Player.

Okay, but in the CM9 thread the first thing it says for installation is 'Make sure your device is ROOTED' and mine is not - so are you sure it will work? I just don't want to brick my device or anything, just got it today xD
to install cm9, boot into recovery, and go to mounts and storage, then select the mount usb storage (connect your usb cable to your computer first)
then copy a cm9 rom zip over (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679957)
you should be fine
if something fails for some reason, try installing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465144 via odin (put your device in dl mode).

yup, dont forget to wipe data, cache, dalvik, (look under mounts and storage) system, and dbdata (or datadata)
All this INTL and US device stuff just throws wrenches into everything. The link I posted says it's for INTL and US devices. Apparently not the case.
I have intl kernel on my US device and it works fine, not sure why the reverse isn't true. Weird.
I use the INTL kernel because I like the governors choices.

Yeah it sucks that Samsung made different devices for different regions...Makes no sense..
But yeah, I installed CM9 and when I selected to reboot my phone from the actual ROM it said 'Rebooting...' and now its been like this for 30mins or so... :| I guess I'll have to wait for the battery to drain or something, but as soon as it does I'll wipe data, etc and install PACMAN with the new kernel and gapps. Sucks that you can't take the battery out the phone, I don't think the phone is actually gonna reboot.
EDIT: NEVERMIND, I JUST SAW ONLINE THAT YOU CAN SWITCH IT OFF BY HOLDING DOWN THE POWER BUTTON AND HOME BUTTON...Yeah I'm totally new to Android and Samsung xD
Or you could hold the power and volume up buttons to go into Recovery mode and reboot from there.
