Hi all,
I've spent hours researching and nothing so just looking for new ideas.
The last few days I've been running official SE 2.1 and today it started force-closing many apps. I restarted the phone a few times and that didn't fix it. So I restarted again to go into recovery and switch ROM. The phone switched off and won't turn on. It said it had low battery life if that's a part of it. The phone will not switch on, it will not charge with any combination of with/without SD card, SIM card etc.
1. SEUS and PC Companion will not repair it, they don't see it.
2. Laptop/PS3 don't see the phone.
3. I left the phone connected via the wall-charger for over 2 hours at two seperate occasions uninterrupted an nothing.
4. The phone shows no LED. Not even the quick-flashing red LED when the battery is extremely low.
I searched every SE site where this is discussed and no help, I've tried everything. I emailed SE and they said it would be better to send it away. I note that they charge a fee if they can't fix it. (It's within warranty though) and my phone is unlocked, debranded and shows various mods typical of users' phones from this site and the warranty says if SE find user mods they phone will void warranty. It may not switch on and neither the network or SE may find the mods which may mean I get past OK, but besides that, is there anything I can do myself? Thanks.
REPAIRED MYSELF
After hours and hours of research and effort, 5 minutes after posting this thread I fixed my phone myself. I hope though that this will help others out there. As with everything like this, especially on this site, these are user mods and frequently delicate or dangerous - you do them at your own risk, and could destroy your device or warranty. If you haven't rooted/flashed many times or don't know what they are, you do not know enough to do this. I say this to protect you, trust me.
If you take off the back cover, above and to the left there are two RUBBER coverings. I used a pin to remove the LEFT cover. You see the power connector of the phone to the battery. Use the pin, carefully and at your own risk, to remove the white part by gently pulling back and up. It's stiff so try a few times. You see 3 wires connected to the white tab. I clean the white tab and metal connector with my finger, re-attached the white tab, you must do that firmly or it won't connect, try again and again. Try the power button on the phone when you have it connected to laptop/pc/etc. and you should see the the red LED gently indicating it's slowly returning to power.
That was a hardware issue it seems?
I really don't know...I've seen other's recommend giving your phone a jump-start with a battery and connector but I couldn't find a connector, and just tried cleaning it with my thumb (no obvious cleaning needed, but I tried) and it did the job...strange. I'm sure this info. will help the next person who gets lost. It'll save time and perhaps money. And us guys around here like to fix things ourselves anyway...

You're welcome buddy! It's nice to be able to share advice with others!

I have a Cingular 3125, working fine for weeks, happened that two days ago, I was charging the phone and transferring files to my computer via Bluetooth, nothing unusual, then it just got frozen, nothing responding, so I just took out the battery to manual reset the device and reinserted it, then tried to turn on the device, but it refuses to boot, no lights at all, also when I attach the phone charger, it doesnt show the usual orange led when charging, but I can feel that the phone gets warmer because the charger is attached and then after a while it gets a bit cooler, just like when it finishes charging, the usual behavior, but again, no lights at all trying to boot it or even attaching the charger, I've tried taking the battery off for hours and nothing also, and I wasnt overclocking the phone... would you say it just died? or maybe someone had same issues and solved it someway? thanks.
try this
OK, I don't remember where I read this, or the exact procedure, but give this a try.
remove the battery, press and hold the red call end key (power key) for 30-45 seconds. insert battery and do a hard reset, IE.. power on holding the 2 top soft keys while powering on the phone.
this method is supposed to clear any mother board issues and reset the phone. It has been a couple of years since I read the procedure so I am not sure if this is the correct way, if it does not work, try the same thing, only try taking the battery out, then put it back in and press and hold the power key for 30 - 45 seconds.
may or may not work, but can't hurt to try.
i had the same problem with startrek which i had bought from eBay
one more advice - try to hold record (notes) and camera buttons and insert an USB cable to your PC, it should enter to Bootloader mode
well, I have dissasembled the whole thing, I havent reached anything, even disconnected the backup battery, nothing, have checked battery with a multimeter and is full loaded... in short, someway the cell phone seems has just died, Erofich, to enter bootloader mode, the phone must turn on, it just doesnt want to start at all, no lights when connecting charger or USB cable... I'm sad because it was working fine with no problems for three months and more sad because it's the end for me to windows cellphones for a long time, I've invested a lot in this phone, accesories, unlocking, and even the same day it died also bought more memory and a neat skin cover and I'm not in mood to invest more in a cell phone so I'll use a spare crappy feature phone.
Thanks for your support.
one last effort
You could try one last thing, this has worked for me with a couple of startreks,
take the phone apart, and take the motherboard out, use a hair dryer to heat the motherboard, don't get crazy with it, but using the hair dryer on the high setting for about 30 to 45 seconds at about 3-5 inches, might revive the phone. (don't heat the battery, just the motherboard)
Put the phone back together while it is still hot (but not so hot that it will burn your fingers) and try to fire it up.
This has worker for me in 3 cases (phones that I bought off eBay that had the same symptoms as you have described)
good luck
big problem!!!!!!!!
I have been struggling to flash (again) the great pro V2 rom, but I always used my VMWare based XP windows version on my Vista laptop. Today I could use a genuine XP Laptop and I could make a connection and start the upgrade!
Sounds good? That's what I thought too, until the upgrade stopped at 70% (and I didn't touch anything), because of a connection error. I followed the text on my PC screen and I finally it started flashing again for a few seconds and then my startrek suddenly restarted, but it stops at the first splash screen! I tried to get my device back to bootloader mode (push 2 soft buttons and start), but no bootloader mode, only the 1st splash.
I solved the problem.
Hi all,
yesterday I used an emergency method for the second time which saved my phone even when SEUS doesn't respond. Please note:
1. This is an emergency method, if ALL other methods fail. If you are not comfortable with this, then don't do it.
2. I don't know if this works for the new Mini or either Pros.
3. You can damage your phone if you do this incorrectly, so take care, and you do this at your own risk.
4. If you are still in warranty, this can void your warranty if they detect what you've done.
5. If you're VERY new to all this phone modification stuff, you probably shouldn't do this. But, if you are new and all other methods don't work, then you can try this if you don't want to/can't afford to send away to repair.
Still in trouble? This is ESPECIALLY useful if your phone won't switch on, SEUS won't detect it and charging doesn't show LED. Do this:
1. Take off the back cover.
2. To the left of the camer lens is a rubber part covering the phone. At first, it looks like it won't move, but use something small and thin (like a pin or tack) to gently lift that up, and take it away. You need this so keep it.
3. Inside you will see a small white connector. This connects the battery to the rest of the phone. Use a tack or pin to gently pull back on the white part. When it does get loose, lift up.
4. After a few seconds, put that white connector back. I do it by laying it down and pushing in with the pin/tack, and push down. You must hear it click. Be very, very careful with this, it's delicate!
5. Put back the rubber connector and case.
Try switch on your phone now. Twice, this has helped me when ALL else failed...
**When you take off the rubber cover to the left of the lens, you will see this white tab as you can see in this picture. You use a pin/tack to drag that back, then press down again and push it into the phone to reconnect. This resets it.**
I have used this on the 2010 Mini, and I don't know about the 2011 Mini or either pros...

Sure!
Honestly, this method has worked twice now (only needed it twice) and if the phone doesn't switch on, PC/laptop/SEUS don't detect it/no LED or anything...this STILL works...! It's a kind of hard reset we need, if soft reset (home and power) don't work.
can anyone confirm whether this works on the pro yet ?

If I understand it, this disconnects the battery from the phone. On the mini-pro you can just pull the battery.
Sent from my U20i using Tapatalk
Yes, that's right ^^ on the Mini of 2010 you cannot disconnect the battery like normal. This is how you can do it, and it really does fix many of the worst kinds of problems...it re-starts the connection of the phone.
Still not working ;(
i tried this method twice, and nothing happened...
my phone was working fine yesterday, woke up, found it turned off.
i tried to charge it, and it showed no signs of charging, no LED lights, no heat, nothing.
i tried to restart it using the power+home+back buttons, i tried to get it on flash mode, nothing worked.
its still off and NOT charging even though its been connected to the charger for like 2 hrs
anymore ideas?
Hi buddy.
There's something different with these smartphones. This happened to my Mini also. I contacted Sony Eric. and they said make sure your battery doesn't die completely. You must leave it charging in the wall for about 2 hours and wait for an LED (green) to show. If that doesn't work, then I'd try SEUS and repair the phone. If that doesn't work, then I'd try this solution. It really should be the LAST thing you do - if you're not very familiar with this you can break it.
And you tried this method and it did nothing? Really? You disconnected the white wire, waited 10 seconds and reconnected? Then I'd try charging for 2 hours WITHOUT trying to turn it on.
help me plzzzzzzzzzz
Hi!
can anyone help me!
i treied to root my x10 mini pro and something fail
Idont know what happen but i fowlloed the guid but i know that was my wrong i dont know what happend.
My x10 mini pro are breaked now when i try to turn it on it came just SONEY ERICSSON just it, itreied to uppdate by pc.companion but i could not uppdate it becuse the program didnot finde the device.
Can someone help me please.
Tanks!
That is common and you should be able to fix it. If all you did was try to root it, I'm not quite sure what failed. This happens sometimes if you try to put a new operating system (ROM) on the device but something goes wrong.
And PC companion doesn't detect your device?
If not...there is another Sony Ericsson program called SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Companion). Use that instead and tell it to repair your phone. To do so, you connect your phone to the PC, press the power button at the top of the phone AND the middle (menu) button on the front together...then your phone resets. If you have SEUS ready, it will connect your phone, your phone won't boot, SEUS will repair it. The light at the top of the phone will be green if this is working correctly.
Hi, i just bought bricked x10 mini for 20 bucks. I has no sign of life, no led indicator, etc. It's not detected by seus. I also disassembly it to check physical damage( i didn't find any damages).
Phone just won't turn on. Lets check if 2hours charging is working for my case.
Yes, try the charging thing. Sony Ericsson told me to do this by email. I had no idea that smartphones worked like that, but yes. It could have life but not show for 2 hours of charging. (They said DON'T try to turn on the phone while it's trying to charge in this case).
If none of that works then try more extreme methods, like the one I mention with the white cable.
Good luck!
still no luck with charging solution. actualy i've disassembly it so practically i have done your solution. i will go check more deeper about the problem. the worst case is IC failure.
Thank you for the tip phoneyericsson!
I didn't find it hard to do -- I pulled off the ruber thing with a nail, and tweaked out the plug with some small scissors.
I was stuck at the SE logo, and couldn't turn of my phone or enter CWR. I wanted to set it back to standard using SEUS. Instead of using the method mentioned in option 2 here, I simply pulled the white plug to the battery, which turned of the phone. Then I inserted it again and the phone stayed off. Then I simply did as SEUS asked, and now I'm back running, ready to get CMmini on my device again!
That's great to hear! ^^
Hello,
I have an unrooted Z2. With around 30% battery left, I put it in the charging dock on my desktop yesterday evening. After 1 or 2 hours, I noticed that the phone is completely dead - no LEDs are blinking, no vibration, nothing. I tried pressing the power button alone, in combination with VolumeDown, VolumeUp, CameraButton, for more than 30 seconds each. I tried pressing down the tiny red button next to the SIM slot for awhile. Nothing. Phone is dead like a brick.
The only result I'm getting is when I plug it into my computer (ubuntu 14.10) - the LED bar on top is showing a constant red color in this case. Doing the button presses outlined above in this situation is also pointless.
I'm installing flashtool for Linux right now, the connection is pretty slow and it will take awhile. I hope to find out more afterwards. I'm a newbie when it comes to flashing sony phones, only found out now about flashtool. Any advice/tip on how to proceed, or if it even makes sense to dig into this, is highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Hello,
are you perfectly sure your dock was connected properly and it hasn't discharged your phone? Maybe there was something wrong with it.
I had similar situation while I was low on battery and I was creating backup in recovery. Then I fell asleep and I have found my phone completely 'dead'. I connected it to the wall charger and nothing. No led, no nothing. I have even connected it to my pc and also nothing happened. Then I connected my Z2 to the wall charger and I left it like that. And after few hours, out of the blue, just turned itself on, just like my old Nokia n95.
I'm sorry it's not quite solution you looked for, but give it a try. Essential is to charge it via wall charger.
Good luck!
Do what @amon87 says OP. Charge it on a wall charger for a minimum of 3-4 hours; If that doesn't work, can you specify whether you were using a legitimate Sony dock or a third party dock? If it was third party, it could possibly have caused a hardware problem with your device via the magnetic charge pins (not extremely likely but not unheard of). Worst case scenario, send it back to Sony in the next few days. The warranty will cover it if you haven't caused water damage or anything like that.
Thanks for your replies! I also hoped for a sudden discharge, so I removed the device from the dock, plugged the USB in directly, and left it overnight - still nothing. Also, I have the original Sony dock, and have never exposed the device to any water.
Found out the model number in the meantime, it's D5303, if it's of any help. Flashtool does not see the device, unfortunately. I just found out that Sony describes an option to restore your device through the official PC companion app - I'll give that a try when I'm home, and will report back tomorrow.
Otherwise I guess my only option is the warranty.
There's also an option to quickly plug in and out charging wire to kick-start the battery. Unfortunatelly i have no further ideas to help you out.
Don't give your hopes up, try again. There's been a thread of a guy whose Z2 turned itself off and it seemed dead, but after a day or two it just turned on.
So, of course it's also not detected by Sony's "Bridge for Mac" app. Plugging it in and out brought also no results.
As the device is still covered by warranty, and I have yet not tampered with it, I've sent it in for repair! My pocket feels so empty now, i wonder how life is going to be without a phone. Apparently they need 5 - 10 working days.
Thanks for your kind support, guys!
Sorry to hear that. Hope it will get fixed!
all key combinations have failed to produce boot and screen but the vibration responds quickly to the sequenced key combinations. no password issue always seemed to need a reset and extra attention but worked fine until left in partial sun through draped window and was powered on without a cool down. I heard a hiss and though the battery was discharging itself, tried when cool nothing so I put new battery in got a battery icon with low level and would not progress in power from there would not accept the charge . I charged with a new cube led usb charger and data cable overnight got the right results noted above but this time no icon just black screen I dont know what the power level is. I have tried three days charging nothing computer and wall. Tried to make phone vibrate and plug back in no. Windows phone one after mango, have lumia 710 zero problems removed battery twice to reboot phone twice in three years no biggie. Mango 7.5 on 710. want to use 800 as a data phone only would not trust it (mine anyway) for communication. Paid good price for it would like it to work again. Should I try powering it up for a few days? Oh phone always put on a surge protector as all my phones are. I once put phone under my pillow and a few hours later it booted screen came on. Have read people putting hair dryers on them I dont think thats the way to go got me here in the first place. very wonky phone it will and then it wont. I thought maybe usb connection damaged but obviously it is accepting some power and phone responding normally and readily to various key combo prompts but no boot and screen. How might this phone be repaired I would like to know what specifically could be the problem a base power or temp for reboot, what parts I could purchase (out of warranty) all parts inside were connected and looked pristine. No evidence of any heat damage. Used another Nokia battery for this phone new. This phone was let to totally power drain and what I have read that is not good for this phone. Maybe it is only accepting minimal power as before dont know but will try to charge another day to see if any activity occurs but would appreciate any help in zeroing in on what the problem or problems maybe, no software updates if no boot and it should do that if anything.

Hi folks,
First things first: I know there are a lot of threads concerning the "red light of death" for Huawei and other devices. I already read so many of them that my head is spinning xD However, I have some questions left and I need to distract myself from getting crazy due to the possible loss of data on my phone (and I have to wait at least until Tuesday for any news regarding the phone...)
What happend?
- Phone restarted while surfing
- Went into a bootloop
- Tried a soft reset
- Tried eRecovery --> Not succesfull
At this point I had to leave the train and the phone had turned off anyway. Wanted to charge the phone at the airport and back up recent data. Removed the protective cover and noticed that the battery was bloated. Since I was afraid I unplugged the phone and came to the conclusion that the phone doesn't work due to the defective battery. Back at home I ordered a new battery - didn't help. Phone won't turn on, softboot doesn't work. I only see a solid red LED when I try to charge it. Bought another battery - nothing. Went to a repair shop: This is the point where I start to have questions
They are all very nice at this place and maybe everything will turn out fine but I just can't wrap my head around certain things.
At first they also wanted to check for a defective battery and possible repairing errors since I replaced it myself. Today they called and let me know that the new battery is alright and they now want to order a new screen module. Later today I went to their shop to ask how much everything will cost and also to ask them about the procedure. I asked them why they want to change the display. Answer: Since the battery is fine, we believe the screen cable got damaged when taking out the old battery - its a common issue because the cable is underneath the glued battery. Once the new screen module is ordered there is a good change that it'll work and we can save your data. Note that I don't have to pay for the new screen, since I said that I only want the data back and that I don't need the phone back fully working. So I don't think they suggested it for the sake of making money.
I have indicated that I suspect a hardware problem, but the guy said the motherboard is fine. He continued to explain, that since the red LED is on and the mainboard as well as the battery are fine they assume a problem with the screen.
My questions:
How can they check if the logicboard "is ok" (I asked if they can do micro soldering and since they can't I doubt they can measure the components). Are there easy ways to exclude an hardware error on the board?
Is it possible that the phone doesn't start, vibrate, is not detected by the PC all because of a faulty screen? Any ideas why the LED is visible then?
Doesn't the red solid LED indicate charging? So how come I "charge" while not being plugged in? (LED stays red all the time)
My initial problem wasn't a possibly ruined screen cable/connection but a bloated battery. It just cracked the backcover open but nothing happened to the screen --> Is it possible at all that the bloated battery killed the display module?
If anyone has read this far: It would help me if you speculate with me about the problem, share your experiences or help me in any other way. Somehow I have to pass the time until next week and I'm going insane xD
Thank you so much!
