AFAIK those are defined in the CSC.
Look at /system/csc or similar, don't remember the exact path out of the head ATM.
Don't have the phone on me now but will try it first thing in the morning.
thank you for the info, would have never guessed it would be in there.

Hi XDA:
I still have the Avatar movie on external sd card, pushed the avatar.apk file to /system/apps, and made sure the proper movie sub directory was copied from an old back up to my internal sd card under the sd card directory. Still getting ' file not found' when click Avatar icon. I can watch the movie using the video player and I'm sure this is something small that I've forgotten, and I researched other threads regarding this issue but cannot find an answer. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I'm currently running Nero v3. Cheers.

Same issue. I was never able to figure it out so I just use the video player to launch it.

If anyone can shed some light on this it would really be appreciated. I am selling one of my Vibrants as I've just purchased a Nexus S and I'm trying to get this working for them before I ship it. Thanks again
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
This has to do with the different ways 2.1 and 2.2 name the external sd card - 2.1 calls it "sd" or "sdcard" (can't remember...been a while since 2.1), while 2.2 calls it "external_sd." So, you need the Avatar apk that has the correct name in the movie filepath.
The attached apk's should solve your problem. If you are running a 2.2 rom, then use the one I attached named "Avatar_22." Push it to your system/app just like you were doing before.
Disclaimer: I did not make the 2.2 compatible Avatar shortcut. I had this same issue and found it somewhere on this site, but figured I'd just share the apk instead of trying to search out the original source. If this makes someone mad, let me know and I'll give the proper credit or remove it - whichever you prefer.
Awesome.. Exactly what I needed and I'll give it a whirl once I arrive home from work. Thanks.

I'm an ass, so I posted this a couple of other places before it occured to me to post my question in the proper section. Sorry about that. Here goes.
Where do I find the actual wallpaper files in a rom? I'd like to pull a wallpaper from one rom to use with another, but I've been searching with root explorer for the last hour and I've got nothing. Any help is welcome.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Backing up the wallpapers is easy. Adding them to the new rom, not so easy. Give me a few minutes and ill see if i can find where the wallpapers are stored.
they are in the .apk of the launcher

Make sure it's in fact a jpg. No png, etc.. Only jpg.
Sometimes the app can be screwy, especially the premium version. I never had issues posting with the free one though.
If you still can't get it, try an external source like photobucket, or something similar..

Screenshot from Home+Power will result in a PNG file. You will need some kind of utility to convert from PNG to JPG to post.
thanks guys. do you know of any converter from the android market? or will i be best just posting screenshots from my laptop?

managed to do it, for some reason when im going to upload and i choose smaller size instead of normal size it seems to work, even with png files. thankyou for your help anyways. much appreciated

Hey all used this guide to upgrade stock jellybean,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909819
Worked brilliantly and then got above my skill level when removing some bloatware, normally i copy the apks i remove however this time i pressed delete by mistake, now have huge issues with play store and other apps. I have deleted too many apks
Have tried installing google apks again but still no joy. Does any one know of a way i can install JB again to start afresh i did try downgrading as per the guide but that didnt actually remove the JB firmware. I feel although even with huge amounts of help from flumpster (many thanks) we arnt cracking it so a fresh install is prob best, i just hope someone knows how to.
Thanks in advance.
You may try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1916285
This is the full Rom which should add your so called bloatware again.
Before deleting any apps you may first freeze them and see if all goes well without them.
Actually, there is no need to actually delete them. As long as they are frozen or disabled, they won't be active.

Thanks for the help do you know how i can install as i said my prime is stuck on the startup wizard and i cant get past that, it just says setup wizard has stopped and then recycles it. is there a way of installing from Fastboot or ADB bootloader.
Good question. I would just give it a try. Since you are not within a bootloop you may also be able to adb push missing files and start with a maybe functioning device...

I ask a question on your site several weeks ago about the default messaging app on Samsung Galaxy s2 aokp jelly bean. It seems that if someone sends me a picture with text the picture covers to text and I can't read it. I asked if there was any way to correct it and below is the answer I got. I am sorry to disagree with whoever posted this however that is not a simple fix. I have Google and look for how to decompile a app and I am unable to find a app to edit a apk file. I am NOT asking for a step by step but surely someone can recommend an app I can download that would allow me to open the MMS app and edit it. Once again this is not a simple fix perhaps it is for you but it is not for me thank you for your time
This is a simple issue that the user can fix. Just have to decompile the apk and adjust the spacing. A search would have saved you opening a new thread.

If you search xda or google you will find plenty of tools that will do that for you.
I really do appreciate all the hard work that xda developers do. I do not like posting on here because I know your time is important but I also don't want to feel belittled. Have searched your site perhaps I'm poor at searching. Is there an app you would suggest that I could download to my phone or Android tablet to edit apk file. Thanks so much

Thanks so much however after posting this I updated to the newest aokp and the issue is resolved. It does still have the sender's name overlapping the date but not the picture overlapping the message. Thanks so much and I will still try the suggested APK editor.

Go check out the Android development guide by Google, you can get several tools to decompile an apk. As well as .dex file

I agree that response was pretty rude. I'm guessing they were trying to scare you away rather than giving advice on next steps. That if you don't know how to do what they said you'd leave it to those that do know how.
But on to your original question...
Wikipedia's location for APK format (can't post link as I'm too new) says that the file is just a ZIP file (or JAR file). So likely 7-zip or your favorite program that can open ZIP's/JAR's will work. You might have to rename the extension to .ZIP or .JAR for the program to recognize it.
Nobody was being rude. We told him to search and that there are plenty of resources already available to him. Nothing wrong with that. Good luck and happy flashing.
The post was mine and it was not rude in the least. The information for what you need to do is posted. Has been for a few years now. Ever since people started doing customs themes. You will not be able to do this without a computer. All you have to do is decompile the apk, find the XML that displays the mms message and adjust the spacing by a few pixels. And then recompile the apk. There are tut all over the place on how to do this
You may have to be creative in your searches to be lead where you need to go but that is part of the learning that android requires. Sometimes you need to think outside the box to get the outcome you desire.

This only works for 35% of the apk as the XML files are encrypted until decompiled as are the .9 pngs
