Headset jack - HTC EVO 3D

For some reason when I connect certain headsets to the e3d my phone goes haywire. It will start playing music skipping songs, calling prior numbers on the recently dialed list, launching apps, and more. Any one else have the same issue?

Ah it's on a diff site:

block headset app from the market

that app worked fine for a day or two, but now back to acting crazy when you touch/play with the headset cord

You sure the blocker is turned on (to block)? A green line on the widget means it is blocking. If it's just gray, it isn't blocking the signals and they'll still get through and send your 3vo to the Twilight Zone.

I've had the same issues with I heart radio on cm7...but to be fair I also had these issues on com rom, unfortunately I can not replicate it under certain circumstances...no real way to say"okay it happens when I do this or that" it's really random, but The only thing I have noted is that running the ec09 modem seemed to help a little...I wish I had a definitive answer for ya but I am plagued with this as well

Turn GPS On only when needed

Is there a way to have the GPS Radio only turn on if I open Waze or some other GPS Aware program? Trying to conserve power here.

To my knowledge, having GPS on standby barely uses any battery. Only when an app updates your location.
I'd just leave it on. Maybe Juice Defender could manage it though
That's how Android works. The GPS isn't actually on unless you see the icon in the top bar. Try it yourself - open Google Maps and you'll se the icon, then close Maps and you'll see it go away.
How is it like with bluetooth? Is it a big battery hog?

Haven't tried out bluetooth yet.
But again, Juice Defender can now manage that too.
Thanks for the info...I'll be sure to play with the GPS a bit more.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that, I've always turned it off because I thought that it would drain my battery.
I know for a fact that the BT will drain your battery even if you have nothing connected to it so turn it off if you don't use it.

Reason people think that I bet is because when Bluetooth was new tech and only in it's first revision it didn't have any power saving features and was constantly pinging the radio if devices were connected or not. That was fixed with Bluetooth 1.3 onwards if memory serves right.
Bluetooth will not use battery unless its connected to a device, and then only will if the phone and the device get out of range from each other. I think but don't quote me, that the connecting device is in charge of pinging and staying pared and not the phone.
Gps can actually cause battery drain of you do a ton of web browsing and are using googles locstion sharing feature...it shares your location each time you load a page in the browser...so not only uses gps but the maps app as well.
This is the only scenario where I have seen it measurably effect battery

I use Bluetooth in my car for voice and music. As you can see by my screen grab it does not use much battery.

I use a program called Tasker and created a rule that turns on GPS only when I open Maps and Navigation. Tasker is a paid app but well worth it. i used it to turn on bluetooth and Nav when I get in my car in the morning, it also shuts off wifi and starts streaming Pandora. When I get to my office, it shuts off the ringer and turns on vibrate mode, shuts off the data network and stops streaming Pandora. It checks my personal email twice per day at scheduled intervals so I am not distracted.
When i plug in my headphones, a menu appears asking if I would like to launch music, pandora or phone.
Though it's a paid app, it is worth the money. Tasker is awesome.

I just bought and paid for Tasker for the GPS one click workaround.
Tasker has a learning curve, but it's like any other macro editor.
You basically make a macro that says
IF app_being_opened = Navigation
AND gps status = off
THEN Open Location Settings
DPAD Down
DPAD Down
DPAD Enter
^-- Tasker does these for you, you sit there and watch.
OPEN Navigation
And you can do the same thing for Maps or any other apps requiring GPS.
Note that I also just made one for one click 4G, too.
Works well.
Note that I'm sure the macros can be cleaned up and made more idiot-proof, but I'm nowhere near proficient with Tasker yet. There are A LOT of options.
+1 for Tasker. I am by no means an expert with it, but it definitely has a lot of functionality.
I've used it to only turn on GPS when opening certain apps (like maps, foursquare, etc.)

I don't understand the need to pay for an app to turn GPS onff. Tasked has a lot more uses but to purchase it for an answer to a nonexistent problem is so...meh.

Troll keep on trolling.
There is obviously a problem if multiple threads have been started to address the problem and if all the GPS widgets on the Market have to have a disclaimer saying "1 click won't work on 2.3.x devices."
Have tasker, just waiting for my note to use it actually

If you read what I wrote you'd realize that I understand there's a small problem but c'mon..almost 7 bucks when all you have to do is pull the notification down and hit the GPS toggle? If that's all someone is buying tasker for...its a waste. Now if they are going to use it for more stuff that's cool.

Tablet Talk App

So since I've been using tablets since the xoom came out I always wanted to be able to send texts through my tablet but have them send with my phone's number. At first there was syncSMS, which was pretty good but required drop box to sync up messages. Then I started using Text tab which would pair the devices with BT. The app was ok, the interface wasnt that great but it did the job. I just bought Tablet Talk from the market and I have to say I LOVE this app, not only does it give you the option to connect via BT or Wifi(must be on same wifi network) but the interface is much better than text tab. Plus you can control your mobile phone. Meaning, if you want to call someone it has a dialer and when you dial from your tab it will place the call on your handset, you can even activate speakerphone on your mobile phone. Granted you need to have your phone close for the calling stuff and I am wondering if you connect the two via BT if you can actually use your tab to talk(I havent tested on BT yet) but I think it's still pretty neat. And when you get a call it displays the caller id number on your tab so no more having to pull the phone out of your pocket to see who's calling.
I have been using it over wifi since last night and havent even seen it eat much battery at all and I left it running all night. Anyway, I would HIGHLY recommend this app... It's the best Tab/Phone SMS app I've seen so far
ok so no audio routing when connected via BT, but it's still a pretty cool feature
When I get a call it shows me who is calling on my tab, and also rings on the tab. You can answer the call from the tab but it activates the handset, but as I said in the OP from the tab you can also activate the speakerphone on your phone
Try...
Tablet Talk

Is there a way for it to recognize the hotspot app on your phone as the wifi network? I have the hotspot on my phone enabled..but it still ask me to connect to a wifi network.
Have you tried the Sidecar app? It is available in the Play market.

hmm not sure.. I havent tried.. but why not just connect via bluetooth?
I haven't tested it extensively, but it definitely looks like a good app. I will be testing it more once I start making progress on installing the tablet in the car.
I bought it the other day and wished I did the trial first. It does work well, but my phone seems to disconnect often from Bluetooth. So then I have to manually turn the screen on and reconnect.
Guess I need to fool with the settings on my phone some more. It's very useful, except for this little quirk I'm having.

[Fix] Streaming Problems in 3rd Party Music Apps

Not sure if this has been discussed here or not but I am just carrying this over from past experience with the OG Evo when i had problems with streaming music on Tunee music using 3g so if anyone cares here's the fix.
***This only works on Sense Based Roms***
1. Open the dialer app and type ##3282#
2. Choose Edit Mode
3. Enter your MSL # (If you don't know it you can download the MSL reader app in the Play Store - you must be rooted to use this app)
4. Choose Advanced
5. Scroll down to RTSP/HTTP Setting select it
6. Then change HTTP proxy IP to 0.0.0.0 and HTTP proxy port to 0
7. Then exit and reboot
Now you should be able to stream music using 3g on music apps and such better.
This may help you or it may do nothing for you but I have to do this in order to stream music in Tunee music and Im sure some other apps out there.
Some people have said this also "Slightly" increased data speeds but take that with a grain of salt
Note - This will revert back once you flash a new rom
***Although almost impossible Im not responsible if you damage your phone in any way by doing this***
I see the option but when I click on it, nothing happens. the setting doesn't open up for me to make the change. Running "STOCK WITH GOODIES 1.75" rom. Anyone else not able to access the setting?
Thanks for the info however this did not work for Pandora. If I'm 3G it will not load a song. It says loading or buffering 1% then skips to the next song. Pandora works flawlessly on my WiFi.

Everything.
Not taking credit for this find since I used it on my Old Photon but I went ahead and added "persist.ril.uart.flowctrl=10" to the end of my build prop to see if it made a difference... might just be me but my speeds went up around 200-300kb/s
I found out that you have to hit the back button and then select Menu - Commit Changes, for anything to take effect. You cant just - 7. Then exit and reboot

Thanks for the 2nd option.
I am Stock so by "clear cache" I assume you mean the App Data for Pandora. I did that and rebooted then tried it out and still nothing. I have email Pandora about it and this was the response that I got:
Thanks for writing, sorry about the trouble. We're aware that recent Android OS updates have resulted in our app not working on certain devices. We're working with Sprint on this issue.
Thanks so much for your patience in the meantime.

Did this and I think my data speeds got worse. New Spotify radio would barely play. It would play 2 or 3 seconds then skip, 2-3 seconds, skip. The old version of Pandora worked flawlessly though.
Sigh.
I remember when an OTA broke streaming music on the original evo. Took forever for Sprint to officially fix it. Every since that happened I always remove sprint's proxy from my phone. It helps the speeds a little but because Sprint runs there 3G on netzero streaming music doesn't work so hot unless it's 4 in the morning. I use to stream Rhapsody on HQ music over wimax although it worked well the signal would cut in and out 100 times on a 15 commute. So what I do now is use slacker and cache for offline playback. The stupid part about that is that even when going into cached content it still has to connect to download album art sometimes that can take forever to load. I'm just hoping LTE rollout doesn't look like swiss cheese like wimax was.

[Solved] Slacker stops playing next song?

I have recently started using my amaze again for a little and was wondering if anyone else has a problem with slacker playing music.
Basically I can start a song, let the phone sit fit a bit so goes to sleep and slacker will play the current song and the next track but then not go to the third song.
Sometimes just giving the phone a minute after unlocking the screen it will pickup but usually I have to skip the track manually.
So far I have installed and reinstalled slacker.
Wifi is set to always on.
I have did a full wipe on ROM and reinstall energy blue and tried both the faux kernel and stock. Both have the problem with nothing else installed.
So far I have not yet tried a different ROM, and my galaxy wasn't having the problem.
Any ideas on how to fix it would be appreciated as I like slacker due to living in edge coverage and being able to cache.
Thank you

Yea Pandora and Jango does the same exact thing. So annoying but at the same time once I awake the phone its right back at streaming the next song.
I mean within like 5 minutes it will do it. Not really away from the phone that long.
Haven't tried Pandora since I don't think it caches but fine for when at home for testing. Will give that a try and report back to let you know.

Ok guys figured it out.
Apparently on both Roms it had nothing to do with either slacker or Pandora.
Seems like the kernel in both android revolution and energy blue (and maybe others too) has a screen off clock speed that is too to run these applications correctly.
I setup setcpu on it with normal at 432 / 1242 interactive cfq and made a screen of profile of 432/810 conservative cfq.
Problem cleared up now and running fine.
Hope that can help anyone else.

I have this same problem though seems like but at about 3 - 4 songs and I need to skip the song in slacker for it to start playing again though. Lighting the phone don't seem to do it.
Shame since I really like slacker and have their 4$ plan for unlimited skips.

This solved it for me, I have an HTC One S running CM10. Bumped the minimum clock speed from 384Mhz to 486Mhz. Thanks man
I've got the same issue. The issue with slacker started after the update to ICS. I've got the stock ICS on the Amaze. It seems to only happen when on WiFi.
I found that if you shut off track preloading it works fine. Strange but it worked!
